This feels like a little secret tucked away down a country lane...when you arrive there is plenty of parking and it will feel a little like you are entering someone's back garden but it is clearly signposted and welcoming. Lots of outdoor seating, but we chose to order to take away as it was a bit chilly. You make your choice from the board, ring the bell, out comes the owner, they take cards which is helpful. He brought all the food out to the car for us which was so kind ( I'm not sure he'd manage to do that if it was a busier time, but a kind thing to do for us whilst it was quiet) The food was delicious..the scones were incredible, light as a feather. The sandwiches yummy, great bread, proper butter we chose ham and cheese the cheese was something else 😋 👌 All our drinks were nice and hot, good coffee too. Can't fault..please don't turn up expecting indoor seating and China teacups..this is very good quality food the menu is limited and an excellent cream tea all served in take away boxes, with plenty of seating in a nature filled garden (or to take away) very dog friendly too 🤩

My recommendation - there is a shop at the top of the road, get a meal deal, same packaging and taste for a third of the money. Please see below why:- Went to check out the beach and scenery which was absolutely beautiful. We heard there was a cafe just before the beach and decided to stop for light bites before walking to the beach itself. On entering the gardens the tables and chairs were in very poor condition, white plastic chairs paired with metal and wooded deteriorating tables. Went to the to the chalk board outside the back door to look at the menu, (there is no Cafe as such just a back garden to a house)! The prices are too high (£6 for a sandwich) but we thought hey ho we are here now. We sat down to await our lunch only to be under attack by wasps while we waited. We moved tables several times to avoid the wasps as did other patrons (like a really bad game of customer musical chairs). Wasps everywhere not helped by the numerous open recycling bins in the garden which are like wasp ibiza party strip. One table of app six were eating the cream teas and flailing arms to stop the wasp attacks only to be told by the owner “it’s ok, they are not aggressive!” Sandwich and two cans of soft drink comes out after a while of wasp dodging, delivered in a cardboard box which no salad, token crisps or frills. All for £9!!! Definitely will not return.

Some reviewers have been very unkind about this place but my experience was that it was delightful. This is a little country tea garden, best enjoyed on a sunny day because of their lovely garden. Take time to enjoy the flowers and the atmosphere and don’t worry about whether your freshly made sandwiches are served in a recyclable box. The food was good, the cream teas were being much enjoyed by other customers and we will definitely visit again.

Lovely setting. My egg sandwiches were delicious but the ham and corned beef were very bland, literally just the meat and no salad or anything. Service is friendly and efficient, there is only outside seating. I find it really sad that since Covid, the use of disposable foodware has remained. I realise it is more convenient and presumably cheaper to throw away the food boxes and paper cups rather than having to wash actual plates and mugs, but environmentally it is awful. The amount of waste in the bins, regardless of whether it is recycled...reduction of waste is the vital thing.

I have no idea how anyone can give this place anything other than 5*’s. Yes the service can be slow, but this kind of place is about the slow life and enjoying the beauty of the place. Go, it’s great and the beach is wonderful and a short walk from the car park. The savoury scones and pickle are soooooo good & you can hand feed the amazing sparrows that are all over the place.

Can't give this less than 5 stars, the atmosphere was so much fun. The ruins of a chancery is right near the gardens of the farm house which homes the cafe. We were told it's where the monks used to chant, but now it's home to a flock of sparrows and one robin, who were definitely singing when we visited. They earned the crumbs that the customers were sharing🐦⬛🍰 the gardens we perfect 🌷🪷🌻🌼🌹🪻 It was sunny when we went, which was good, cos most of the seats are outside, there is a small indoor space. It is a few years since I was here for tea. Although the scones, jam and cream were delicious its not easy cutting a fresh scone and spreading it with cream and jam with a disposable knife! The cream and jam were in disposable containers with a cardboard plate and thin paper serviette all to be put in a bin on leaving. Coffee and tea of dubious quality in disposable cups as well.

We ordered, paid by card and he said it didn't work as bad reception, he took card reader into cottage and tried again. Still didn't work!! We paid by cash, luckily (or unluckily) we had some as don't usually carry any. My sister checked her bank a few days later to find payment was made!! We paid £24 for 2 coffees and 2 pieces of cake!! Absolutely disgusted that we were conned!! Cake (carrot - absolutely delicious) and coffee arrived in cardboard which wasn't a problem, except wooden spoon to stir coffee shorter than cup and a wooden knife to eat cake, fork would have been appreciated!! After we left, we looked at reviews!! Shame we didn't do this 1st!! We would have afforded!! As many others before us have said "DON'T GO!!"

Really lovely setting, and the scones were delicious. We didn't drink our tea though as it was weak, watery and milky, really not to our taste. We would prefer to have a tea bag left in and be able to put our own milk in. It worked out a little pricey because you have to order the teas separately, and at £2.25 per tea, I would expect not to have to pour it away.

Loved the stop here in the middle of a long walk. The owners had their patrons best interests at heart by luring all the wasps to a little "feeding station" with jam or some other sweet treats, so they mostly stayed away from the outdoor tables. We had only a tea and a coffee, so can't comment in the food. It looked like a great tea menu with cream tea and loads of other tummy cakes, including gluten free and vegan. A delightful little outdoor space for tired legs. There is only 1 single toilet outside the main building, so could find a small queue.

Having read the Trip Advisor reviews of The Chantry only after our visit, it's clear the management don't read their reviews, or worse, don't care. This review could almost be a summary of all the other 1-3 star reviews as our group nearly achieved Bad Chantry Bingo. 1) The attitudeoif the female owner is terrible. A customer facing role is clearly not for her. 2) Portion sizes are poor when compared to competitors in the area. Two in our party asked for more cream with their scones and were told "That would cost extra". The original portion sizes were miserly at best. 3) Mrs. Chantry struggles with negative customer feedback. "Everyone gets the same portion size (not quite enough) .... no one has complained before (she's clearly unaware of Trip Advisor). After this exchange, one of our party suggested that 'never coming back' was an option. This was a red rag to her, and she came back for a (verbal) fight. Luckiky, this was diffused by some of the more diplomatic members of our party. 4) Comments about packaging are fair. Paper cups and cardboard boxes should be for takeaway only. Some nice crockery would improve the experience... or prices should be reduced to reflect this. Positives: Mr Chantry was obviously having a good day (maybe he hadn't spoken to his wife. He was clearly busy). The other staff were pleasant. The location is lovely. Summary: Unfortunately, The Chantry seems to be a profit maximisation operation, rather than being customer service based. We spoke to some other friends who have visited the area for generations, and they all have had bad experiences there (generally involving the owner's attitudes) and haven't returned. My experience is that I ordered and ice cream, it's difficult to go wrong with Styles, but when it arrived (when I was away from the table) it came with a warning. 'The cone needs to be held in a particular way, or it might break'. This advice wasn't passed onto me, and I was very impressed with the catch I made as the ice cream headed to the floor. My dog appreciated helping clean my ice cream covered hand (if not the dog ice cream I bought her). The fact that the cone came with a warning about its poor quality, rather than The Chantry fixing the problem by shopping elsewhere for better supplies sums this place up. Mrs Chantry has to be seen to be believed, but you won't come back.

The setting is beautiful, but having been on holiday and sampling many cream teas locally, I was disappointed with the quality after visiting with family. It was a busy, sunny day and we waiting over 30 mins to receive our cream tea and sandwiches. As many reviewers have already mentioned, these come in cardboard boxes/ cups. The scone was very dry and crumbly but was served with a huge quantity of clotted cream and good quality jam. Unfortunately, due to the nearby bins, there were a considerable amount of wasps hanging around too which didn’t help with our enjoyment of the experience. The sandwiches were tasty but pricey since the they did not come with any garnish/ salad etc (£1 extra for a bag of crisps). The hot drinks just didn’t taste as good in cardboard cups- they were incredibly hot to touch too. Lovely setting, but let down by the “takeaway” feel.

I have been visiting The Chantry for 25 years and the appeal of home baking in an alfresco setting has always been an absolute joy. However, I am old school in liking linen on a restaurant table and full crockery in a cafe. Covid understandably forced a shift to disposable items but I take the opposite view to Michael T, as I feel that the permanent use of packaging diminishes the experience. Having recycling bins, that were previously unnecessary, is just virtue signalling and a cop out from washing up.

We were a group of senior women on a walk around Kilve. We were warned by group leader that this place was ‘ not up to much’ but when I saw the setting I was entranced by the informal garden set around the ancient walls ( albeit held together by almost as ancient scaffolding) with birds flittering back and forth to the feeders. However although my coffee at the beginning of our walk was in a paper takeaway cup, it was good coffee. At the end of the walk we all sat at a large garden table and placed our orders. All the food was excellent ! However the lack of cutlery, napkins and crockery along with, again, paper cups was so disappointing, and diminished the quality of the food. I see from previous reviews that the lack of crockery and cutlery was introduced during the covid period. I am very sorry to see that this practice has continued, and would urge the owners - pleasant and accommodating as they were- to seek to reintroduce these elements of visiting and eating in such a lovely setting.

They now use disposable cups and plates for everything, which takes a lot of the charm away (and generates a lot of waste). The scone was dry and crumbly. It was £8.25 for a cream tea with two scones. The location is still lovely, and the sandwiches are apparently very good, but I'd go elsewhere for cream tea.

Very disappointed with our visit this afternoon for a cream tea! We haven't visited here in about 18 months. We did not expect them to be still using paper and cardboard cups, plates and cutlery which they starting using during covid and just after. It use to be one of the best places for a cream tea, but the lack of crockery lets it all down! 'Just saying' I am not even bothering to remark on the actual cream tea as the experience is marred by the reasons given.

I had seen signs locally indicating a tearoom that offered cream teas by Kilve beach. On arrival we were surprised to find it was just a house serving drinks and food in their back garden. Although pretty, in a old cottage style garden style, it was looking tatty and rundown. There was a couple of tables in a small outhouse if it was rainy. You have to queue at the back door to have your order taken. The chap taking orders was also running around the garden like an athlete. I ordered 2 cream teas and a apple juice with a brownie. The cream tea arrived with no tea..... At no point we were told the cream tea didn't exist. It was scones with cream and jam, tea not included!! The man who took my order told me he should have let me know the cream tea didn't come with tea. Apparently not many people want cream teas, they just want scones! Tea was available. At an extra cost. Everything is served on paper plates and in paper cups. Which is understandable, as it was very busy and washing up on top of serving everyone would be impossible for a couple of people. The scones and brownie were absolutely delicious. Light fluffy and very tasty. There is a toilet for customers and free parking too.

Took some friends from London at Easter after a lovely walk. Unfortunately we were disappointed as all disposable plates etc used, which I can understand during Covid. Cream teas and a tea pot go together not paper plates. We spent £50.00 and expected far better.

Popped in after completing the Kilve and coastal walk, best scones I've ever had! Fantastic setting and great service. Will definitely be returning when I'm back in the area.

We visited on a warm March day. You can only sit outside so it's good to be aware of this. It's lovely to sit with the Chantry ruins forming one of the garden boundaries. There is a surprisingly large menu for such a small light lunch place. We can highly recommend the soup and the cheese scones. Our only downside is that absolutely everything is served in disposable tableware, which, although recyclable, feels a huge waste.

The website is very misleading as it makes the rooms look nice and modern, but ours was a bit grim and dated; nothing ‘deluxe’ about it. The shower was nice as it had been recently renovated. No soundproofing so you can hear literally everything in the other rooms. The TV was ancient and tiny. In-room coffee is instant only and we asked for oat milk when we booked and didn’t get it. Bed was ok but the pillows were uncomfortable. The carpet looked like it had been there for 50 years and needs replacing. Spa also needs to be upgraded - big hole in the floor of the steam room and the jacuzzi was closed (we weren’t told that at the time of booking). One pro is that it’s a good location - easy walk to shops and restaurants and the park.

The food was really good unfortunately the experience was let down by service. We sat in the restaurant and we could hear everything going on in the kitchen, not normally a problem but in this instance the waiting staff were being told to go and take orders, we'd been waiting 15 minutes in an empty pub! Then to add insult to injury we could hear a male belching loudly from the kitchen. This put us off the food that was delivered.... in short we have been here before and came back because we had a good meal, whether or not new staff or just a one off we would need to seriously consider if we return. Sorry as a big fan of supporting local pubs & businesses it goes against the grain but these days money is too hard earned not to say something!

Stopped here for coffee and cake whilst my children were crabbing. The lady that served us was an absolute delight! Worth a visit for her friendly and welcoming service <3
