Great chips, lovely staff and a freshly cooked pea fritter to die for! Just what was needed on a cold, blowy evening.

Absolutely excellent food, myself and hubby love Haworth and visit regularly, we always come to Changegate several times. They are consistently good and really lovely people. I recommend the mushy pea fritters with chips and curry sauce. Best chip shop I have been to.

The food (fish butty was really really nice). But for some reason the people in front were served their food outside where as we were shouted and then had to come back in for it. Furthermore when we went back in, I said thank you bye and I was totally tumble weeded. Not a single reply, total silence. Very peculiar and absolutely no idea how I upset them. In fact I am sat here 4 days later and just thought of this and decided to add a review.

Absolutely gorgeous fish pure white thick flakes of fish. Reminded me of the old fashioned chippy I went towhen I was a kid. Staff friendly and helpful just fab will be back soon. Even if I have to drive from St annes.

Meant to post this review months ago. Simply the best gluten free fish and chips that I've had. Wrapped in paper, steaming hot, and delicious. Loved knowing the variety of potato used too.

Visited here when i was staying in Howarth fantastic fish and chips and my dogs loved their sausages too. Highly recommend

Ordered some chips and 2 cans of Pepsi. Staff were polite and cans were cold. Chips however were pretty drab.

Went for dinner with the family but they were closed despite advertising being opened. Had to find a table elsewhere without resavations! Thanks!

We visited on 1940s weekend and it was packed but the service was very quick and efficient. There was seating available outside and the food was very fresh and tasted good.

Every time i come to Haworth i always stop here for some fish, chips and a portion of curry sauce. Its easily my favorite fish and chip shop and with friendly staff members.

Went today and got chips with scraps, had been a couple years since I had been here and pleased to say the quality has not changed. You know how when you get a craving for something and you go to seek it out it doesn't always live up to what you wanted? Don't have that problem here. The chips, perfect, hot and fluffy on the inside and cooked to perfection. The scraps soaking up the vinegar nicely to give the flavour in every bite. By far the best chips in the area and worth the drive out to get them.

I have visited this fish and chip shop for many years and find their hygiene levels excellent, their food superb, the staff kind, friendly, caring and a joy to speak to, and have seen their standards to be consistent throughout, one does not see this level of customer care often…we travel several miles to visit the business which says a lot…

Called here today, previous review below from our last visit last year. It is a good job that they are in a tourist area with passing trade otherwise they would not survive. We were served two of the smallest portions of chips, peas and gravy = £8.60, gravy was awful the rest OK. Our local fishery serves twice the size portions, superior quality at 30% less cost. We had fish, chips and peas, initially the fish looked quite big, but when you dismiss the ridiculously small tray and strip back the excess batter, the tasty fish was a little on the small side. (take a look at Yadira's excellent photo for perspective ) Chips and peas were decent. The meal laid a bit heavy on the stomach.

Delicious fish and chips. Some of the best I've had. The people who worked there were very friendly and helpful. The self service salt and vinegar is a great bonus. It's also in a good location near Main Street. I would definately recommend this place and I will be back.

If I could give 5 stars for the taste I would but I would like to ask the following questions 1. Why are the portions so so small? Yet the price is so expensive? 2. Why are you using half a polystyrene take out container? when paper or cardboard box would be much more suitable and eco friendly! My only thought was to control portion size… 3. There is no excuse to use plastic forks or horrible half a Polystyrene container so why use them? You have so much potential amazing food but let down by bad choices and unacceptable portion size to price Ratios I feel like there is someone in charge who oversees in the background unwilling to chance and it’s very unfortunate.

Lovely chip shop perfectly placed at the top of the hill. Great to grab one bag and share with the family whilst walking down the hill…

Just had the best ever fish and chips here! Lovely people running the chippy, with some outdoor seating available. Best of all we got some proper Yorkshire fishcakes to take home. Brilliant!!

fish and chips always taste better on a fresh autumn day and these were outstanding in every way , i was told the night before it was the fish shops anniversary so i had in mind lunch the next day , very clean and premium social distancing in place and a warming yorkshire welcome , just what fish and chips should be , many thanks all .

Had a tray of chips from here today, totally my type of chips, freshly cooked for us, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside perfect with a little salt and vinegar.

The chips and sausage from Changegate are exceptional, didn't try the fish but others who did gave rave reviews. Worth travelling a bit further for the extra quality. The price and the amount you get for your money is very good.

My husband and I enjoyed our lunch here today. The price you pay includes bread and butter and a drink and I easily had 2 cups of coffee from the pot of coffee I was given. Great fish and chips, great service and great value.

Hi all I'm not very happy with how I was treated today at betteys chip shop in Haworth as I've been there on numerous accession with my family over let's say the last decade are more and allways called in at betteys for fish and chips for all the family and normally been treated very well and nearly allways Sat inside to eat but today when we went the wether was very nice so we decided to sit outside on the benches provided I've no problem with the food are the £43 I spent but MY COMPLAINT IS MY 84 YEAR OlD MOTHERINLOW NEADED THE LAVATORY SO I WENT IN And ASKED IF IT WOULD BE OK IF WE COULD USE THE TOILET AND THE GUY BEHIND THE COUNTER POINT BLANK SEAD SORRY WE HAVEN'T GOT ONE YOU WILL HAVE TO FIND ONE ELSE WERE I THEN QUICKLY QUESTIONS THIS AND EXPLAINED WE HAD USED THE ONE YOU HAVE IN THE restaurant at the back he quickly said as you have not dined to hear I'm afraid it's out of order I've had explained I spent over £40 and sat outside so I won't be going again burning mind my mother-in-law is 84 years old I don't think this is fair and I'm not one for writing bad reviews because the food is very nice but on this occasion I think everybody should know IF you buy fish and chips from the shop and sit outside they will not meant to you which I designed for the public to use when they sit in the restaurant thanks for taking time for reading my review

We come here every year when staying in Haworth on holiday. Superb fish & chips, lovely friendly staff, excellent service with a smile. Very clean & tidy. Cosy clean cafe, very relaxing & you can also sit outside with your take-away. We thoroughly enjoyed our fish & chips lunch with bread & butter & coffee today in the cafe. Very good prices too but remember to bring your cash - cards aren't accepted. We will definitely be back, probably later this week. Lots of thank yous. xxx

What a very friendly little place. Little squashed when you have a pram but the staff are so helpful and accommodating. Food was fresh and hot and reasonably priced. Thank you for helping us.

If you're tempted by the smell of fish and chips then call in here and try their fish butty. Generous portion of fish in the tastiest of light, crisp batter. We had chips and curry on another day while we were in Haworth and the standard of food was top quality then as well.

The lovely smell of fish and chips ws irresistible, following a walk up and down the interesting main street. Freshly cooked to order and service was very good from polite and friendly staff. So glad we stopped for some - they were delicious.

Cold January visit to Haworth, fortunately found this place and they have an indoor cafe - great, immediate service with food especially cooked, soft/hot drink and bread & butter included in the price and grand sized portions too. Food was absolutely delicious and really well priced, especially considering the location and compared to other eateries nearby. Definitely one to return to!

The smell of fish and chips enticed us in after a lovely stroll through the cobbled streets of Haworth. Greeted by two lovely staff members, our order was freshly put in the fryer. The quality of the fish and chips was spot on however the price for the portion size was the only downside unfortunately! We had been offered half fish and chips which I am so glad we went for the full size otherwise we would have still been hungry! Word to the wise if having a takeaway expect smaller portions for your money...

This place is spotless. The whole place looks recently decorated but it was as clean as a pin the previous time we visited. I had been driving a little too fast to get here, the thought of Spam fritters in mind. 'I'll walk ahead and see if it's open' I said. As I approached the top of the street I could smell the fried goodness on the air. We were served by a friendly lady and the fare arrived promptly. 2 teas in a traditional teapot, a coffee. Fish and chips, spam fritters chips and peas twice with gravy for me, bread and butter all for under £27. Apparently it used to be 3 cottages and dates from 1853. I belive it's been a chippy for over 70 years. We will be back.

We live near but don’t go often, simply because we don’t eat fish and chips often. When we want them, we comes here because the foods always fresh and tasty. The staff are always polite and pleased to see you, nothing is to hard work. Keep it up

Betty Sampson's is a great place for traditional fish and chips. Park at the bottom of main street and walk up. Feast and shop on your way down. Or park near the top and explore Penistone Hill and reward yourself afterwards. Either way or whatever you do, no visit to Haworth can go without Betty's fish and chips!

After a walk on the moors, I really enjoy having a well earned fish, chips and mushy peas. You can sit outside and watch the world go by. Today, was a treat as we sat in the cafe. Fish, chips, peas, bread, pot of tea twice for under twenty pounds is a bargain. Fish was lovely with a light crispy batter. Bonus of eating inside you don’t have to pay for tomato ketchup!!! I’ve eaten here at least 10 tines and every time has never been a disappointment!

Went yesterday during a visit to Haworth. Super friendly and obliging staff. Immaculately clean. Great tasting fish and chips. Have been disappointed with the general cheap and honestly quite nasty food on offer at establishments in Haworth but this is a little gem!

I have been here many times and recommend the fish and chips .The portions are generous and filling .There is some seating outside ,and it is in a great spot for anyone touring Haworth .

Came in here on a Sunday after 4pm and it was quiet. Asked if cafe area was open and the waitress said yes and switched the lights on for us. We both had the "senior citizens" special - fish, chips and peas with bread and butter and tea £7. The food was served on a fish shaped plate and everything was freshly fried and good quaity. Really enjoyed our meal after a tough walk.

OK, but not the best in Haworth. The fish and chips here are OK but not wonderful. Shop does OK because of position and the tourist trade. If you can find it, and are around at frying times, the Golden Hind is the Locals' Choice and the best in Haworth.

This is a nice little place with good friendly staff which is well placed for a spot of food before going for a walk along the infamous Moors. The portion size I would say is average, the fish is full sized with lovely crisp batter and tasty chips which I didn't find greasy. Price is reasonable at £10 for two portions and I would recommend.

Caminamos hasta la calle principal en un día soleado espléndido Changegate divisando chippy en todos los asientos, fue tomado, así que afuera estaban encantados de encontrar una encantadora habitación de té en la parte trasera de la tienda. Sin duda era el servicio con una sonrisa, amable y eficiente, pero no insoportables. El abadejo era humedo el bateador nítida y sabrosos, acompañados de papas fritas, guisantes blandos, Bread & butter y una taza de té encantadora. Altamente recomendado y volveremos.

Tener subiَ la colina de adoquines de piedra que debe haber sido la tercera vez, llamamos en el "fish and chips" en la parte superior y qué joya, nos sentamos en el pintoresco café y nos recibieron con una sonrisa. La comida y el servicio era de primera clase, el pescado cocinado a la perfección, si es un pescado y patatas fritas que busca entonces subir los adoquines y disfrutar.
