The cafe is efficiently run and we enjoyed the rooftop seating in the sun today. Unfortunately the scone was stale. Quite a shocker for me! What a shame :(

I am a member of the National Trust and look forward to their restaurants and tea rooms as part of my visit. However, recent years have often seen me disappointed. This one did at least offer real cups but the scones and cakes were not the freshest. Poor show to offer whipped cream not clotted cream as part of a cream tea. Please go back to local, individual and regional cooking not the mass standard catering that seems to have invaded recently. There are many local cafes nearby that offer much better ambience and food. The plus for this one is its location and roof top terrace.

Excellent. Enough said, roaring fire, only annoyance was a group of locals from the town who considered themselves above the COVID rules to meet up in excessive numbers.

Tea room offers standard National Trust menu with some local variation. This building was a tearoom long before the NT took over and was know as the Swiss Chalet

The 2018 refirb was not done sympathetically, the cosy back room with the original features is now open plan. Bit of a nightmare weaving a push chair through the table layout, especially when an apparent "former Employee" started trapping his mouth off at having to move his chair when I attemptedthe aforementioned. Don't think he'll be doing it again though👍 Such a magnificent location and now such a mediocre venue. Such a shame as I said.

Sunday lunch with our two grandchildren. Refurbishment has taken away any character this place once had. Loads of tables (most empty). Bland food and little choice. Baked potatoes featured heavily. Food was presented on tiny plates and we all struggled to keep the food on them. Tasteless and boring. National Trust clearly trying to maximise the area, with tables crammed in, however with food this awful they will struggle. However no competition in Cardingmill Valley, so they have a captive audience. Best to stay hungry and go into Church Stretton itself. We wont be back.

In a region dominated by people with dogs, and we found predominantly dog friendly establishments, shops, restaurants and bars, it seems incredible that this facility will not allow dogs. Poor show.

Although the café does have a monopoly in the area, the service is excellent and the cakes are very good. It lacks a bit in ambience but it has to cater for walkers, especially in the week. Top tip - you can sit on the roof - when the weather's like this, why wouldn't you.

Ideal watering hole near the end of a good walk. With it being such a warm day this café was ideally positioned towards the end of a walk with the family. We only had a cup of tea and biscuits - but what we had was good. A proper big pot of tea with a big pot of hot water - ideal for three cups each. The shortbread biscuits were homemade and ideal about 7cm across and 1cm thick. perfect. Can't give a five/five as we did not have anything much to eat..

I was there earlier this week and, on a day of low mist and cold, wetting drizzle, there was a welcoming, blazing fire inside. Coffee and flapjacks were also warming enough to fortify us and go outside to brave facing the wind down the valley.

After being closed for several weeks for refurbishment the transformation is astonishing. From a cosy cafe with character, lovely fireplace, separate family/group area, and a book lined snug it is now a mundane, characterless canteen. More space between tables certainly, and the food is still ok, but you’d better walking up to the golf course cafe for views or into the town for some chatacter and better food at Berry’s, Jemima’s, The Holly Bush, or Ginger & Green’s. If this is the new model for National Trust cafe’s It’s clear time for me to cancel mu membetship.

Warm and welcoming this is a good place to refuel after a walk up onto the Long Mynd. Good range of homemade cakes. Second hand book stall too.

A typical National Trust cafe but we were disappointed - Victoria sponge without the cream for example. Overall it was OK but rather over-priced compared with other cafes (and their offerings) in the area

Called here on a warm sunny day and the valley was at its best. A weekend, so it was busy but we were served promptly tea coffee and a nice scone with jam. Not cheap but it is the only café in carding mill valley, and raises funds for the NT so we didn't mind. On the upstairs terrace blackbirds were coming for crumbs.

We have stopped here many a time after a day on the Mynd, but it always feels a little 'hit and miss'. The food is usually good and the cakes are great. It can be very busy but they do good job of keeping the tables clear and the toilets are always clean. The major downfall can be the coffee. On this occasion it was dire, all I can say is that if you are serving coffee, always have someone who is barista trained on hand, or at least experienced on making coffee.

Nice cafe to set you up for a walk, or relax after your visit to the valley. All the usual things you might expect - good selection. Despite being the only cafe in the valley, the staff are all friendly and helpful. Several visits over the years have been enjoyable. Nice terrace above to sit out on, during the sunny months.

The carding Mill valley is a great way to walk up onto Long Mynd, and we re-fuelled at the cafe before setting off. The tomato soup was delicious, the tuna sandwich fresh, and the jar of wild garlic pesto purchased after sampling. The rooftop terrace allowed us to bask in the warm spring sunshine. Staff are friendly and busy baking when not serving.

After an early morning walk up to lightspout hollow with our baby in the carrier we returned to the car grabbed the pram and baby feed bag then headed for this National trust cafe for lunch. The place was clean, warm and bright with plenty of room for the pram and has a separate family room with books and games for older children. The staff were very helpful and were able to warm our 9m old sons lunch. We had the soup and sandwich deal and both were very tasty. The bowls were warmed before hand to keep the soup nice and warm and the sandwiches were very fresh with beautiful ingredients. After an hour or so we were refreshed and ready for a short walk up to the resrvoir. Thanks to all the staff who were very friendly and helpful.

We usually make this a stop-off point on one of our many cycle routes around (and up!) the Long Mynd. It's always busy, no matter what time of year and it's easy to see why. Although it's not cheap, the food (sandwiches, cakes etc) is great quality and very tasty and the coffee is the best I've had in the area.Nice and warm inside and a few tables outside. We do like to keep an eye on our bikes and it would be nice that if we did have to sit inside there was space to store our bikes - a lockable shed? It is very popular with cyclists so it would be good to keep our bikes out of the way of people using the café. It seems wherever we put them they are always in someone's way!

This is a great tearoom set in the foothills of Cardingmill Valley. All of the food is freshly made and there is a lovely selection of fresh cut sandwiches and homemade cakes. The freshly made sausage rolls are particularly good! Friendly staff and a perfect way to start and finish your hike in the hills.

We always enjoy the friendly welcome here whenever we call in after walking on the Mynd but this Christmas we actually got our act together to book their special Christmas lunch menu. This has been offered, as a 'book in advance' option, for the last couple of years, available from sometime in November to a couple of days before Christmas. The organisation was efficient, the welcome on the day was splendid, the food magnificent, featuring local ingredients and the whole thing was really well done. We all hope it will be offered again next year a we won't be delaying in booking again.

Excellent national trust cafe set in the heart of the fantastic cardingmill valley, All the food is home-made and the cakes are fab. I also recommend the lamb stew the perfect winter warmer after a long walk. In the summer they serve beautiful farm-made ice creams great for all the family.

A regular call in the Cardingmill Valley. The staff are friendly and the food is good. They often feature ingredients that are locally grown or produced - sometimes even foraged! Main room is huge and can sometimes get a bit noisy but there are tables outside and space to sit under the veranda. On a sunny day the rooftop terrace is a delight, with a couple of sun beds too!

A lovely tea shop (and NT shop attached) with friendly staff and lovely home-made cakes etc. A big plus is the fact that muddy boots are welcomed as you come down off the hills so no need to change or take off your boots. The gluten free chocolate and almond cake was delicious (and I had it through choice not because I have to avoid gluten) and the coffee was great too. Highly recommend.

Surprised that there were no reviews of this café. It is situated in the lovely Carding Mill Valley a 15 to 20 minute walk from Church Stretton. It is also very popular. We came here towards the end of our walk. We had been caught in a heavy rain shower and we were glad of some shelter. The café area is quite large and there are a number of tables inside, there is also seating outside on the verandah. The café is self service, we had a pot of tea for two and a slice each of Carding Mill crunch a very good tray bake which we would recommend. A corner of the café is taken over by a second hand bookshop.Worth dropping in if you are in the valley.

Visited this lovely country pub following recommendations from neighbours. The menu is small but full of home made dishes. As a group of 4 we enjoyed chicken and Stilton pie and vegetables, gammon, sweetcorn, chips and pineapple, chilli con carne and a really meaty pork chop, chips and peas. Really good home cooked food so much better than the normal pub grub. It also means the menu changes regularly. Sensibly priced making eating out a pleasure. Desserts just had to be tried. The whisky bread and butter pudding was suitably named and the apple crumble with custard was a winner too. The Sunday roast advertised at £9.30 will have to be tried another weekend. Delicious home cooked food is always so much better than bought in dishes. We praised the chef and June for a lovely warm welcome and a great meal.

I must echo the views of others. A really lovely restaurant spoiled by sparrows landing on the the table where cakes are being cut and on uncleared tables. Very unhygienic - there must be a way to stop them coming into the tearooms. Never encountered it anywhere else. Health and safety would have a field day!
