Centurion Club in St Albans

This was an excellent prix fixe lunch menu. The cod was early excellent and beautifully cooked. The soup that our guests ordered was great. Throughly recommend it and great views across the golf links.

Went for birthday lunch with 4 friends. Food was superb and staff, as always, friendly, helpful and very efficient. Thank you!

Myself and my husband had lunch at this lovely venue a few days ago, opting for the Prix Fixe menu. For starters we had duck patê with and onion chutney and prawn cocktail with pickled cucumber - both excellently presented and delicious. The 2 main courses we chose were roast chicken with a potato and duck terrine which was divine and chalk stream trout with a delicious butter sauce. For dessert we both chose apple brioche pie with vanilla ice cream and custard- very decadent! So, needless to say, we were both delighted with our menu choices! The price of the Prix Fixe menu belies the quality of the food - it's all presented so beautifully too! The service by Jade and Andrew was impeccable, friendly and made us very comfortable- nothing was too much trouble - thank you both so much! It's a delight sitting in the restaurant, overlooking the golf course, especially on a glorious day!

Went for sunday lunch and was not disappointed was superb from starters to dessert and the service was 10/10 too. Had the roast beef and was one of the best ive had the greens and roasties too was tastey and fresh and will be returning in the near future.

If I could give more stars I would. Simply amazing experience from start to finish. Fantastic facilities and the best golf course I have ever played. Superb variety of holes and immaculately manicured. Absolutely exceptional.

When you are first out on a course that is in great nick and the weather is kind, there aren't many better places to be. Also enjoyed the food. Thank you, a great day.

Fantastic afternoon tea in a beautiful setting overlooking the golf course . Delicious food and the staff were so accommodating with our food requirements . Bit under par for me (excuse the pun). My partner she loves coming here and if she was writing this she would give it 5 stars. The issue I have with the Centurion is that I don't feel any ambiance in the restaurant at all. The staff were excellent attentive, the cocktails were disappointing (strawberry daiquiris should be with loads of crushed Ice in my opinion). We opted just for mains which was the salmon which came with some vegetables. It was very enjoyable but nothing special but the size was decent thankfully. We wanted liquor coffee only to be told sorry no cream available? Now bearing in mind the time we were there there was only around another 9 diner's so I can only guess that they wasn't expecting a hugh demand in cream requests and didn't bother getting any in. So 2 salmon and 2 cocktails £150 with service not cheap and nothing special enough for me to rush back. My partner loves the place though so shame she's not writing this review.

I'm shocked and appalled by the horrible experience I had at Centurion Club. The so-called "receptionist" at the front desk was utterly incompetent and condescending. When I politely asked to use the restroom, she looked me up and down with disdain, her tone dripping with superiority as she snobbishly inquired about my membership status. When I informed her I was just a visitor, she begrudgingly granted me permission to use the facilities, but not before making it clear that I was beneath her notice. The entire interaction left me feeling like a second-class citizen, and I would not recommend this course to anyone who values basic human decency.

An absolute delight, had a wonderful day from start to finish. An exceptional golf course,in excellent condition, wonderful facilities, very helpful staff. Definitely worthy of another visit

NEVER BOOK AT THIS "PRIVATE" RESTAURANT AGAIN!!!! On the 28th of May I had a booking at 12:00am. I've arrived slightly earlier and was asked to wait outside in the cold and rain outside the restaurant, until 12:00am. Around 11:55am I was approached by a member of staff who told me to get to the restaurant and there will be a lady who will meet me and have me seated. Once at the restaurant I was sat in the middle uncomfortable table isolated from the rest of the restaurant. I was then asked to remove my cap, even though it was a golf venue and 95% of the people in the restaurant were wearing caps/hats. I felt discriminated by the way I was treated. I've asked if they had a smoking area and I was told to stand in the rain as they had no hidden spaces. I made an order for lunch for me and my child and my friend had ordered 2 beers while deciding what food they would have. As I went for a second smoke I was approached by a rude staff member with a radio on him, asking me if it was my first time here at the restaurant and if I have ordered any food. I felt very intimidated as he kept looking at me in a rude and angry way. Once I went in he followed me to see where I was seated with my party of people and sat nearby to watch me. I felt very intimidated and decided to leave immediately. Settled the bill and left in the heavy rain, was not asked by the host lady at the front if I needed any assistance for taxi (As I arrived by taxi, nor offered an umbrella while waiting for my taxi). At one point I looked behind to see the rude man with the radio behind me following me to the exit. I would never return!!!! Felt very discriminated.

A fantastic golf club which really puts the area on the map. The golf club has fantastic facilities and the staff working there from the golf side to the restaurant side are so helpful and great. Great venue and great people

What a find - one of the best meals I’ve had in my life . Came here on Saturday evening with friends. Had the smoked duck pate, followed by the chicken then the milk chocolate mousse with peanut butter ice cream - It was outstanding. How this place doesn’t have a Michelin star, I don’t know! Staff were attentive without being overbearing. Great atmosphere, beautiful surroundings. My only issue is that I didn’t discover this place sooner. Will be back. Thank you so much to the Chef for such wonderful food.

My fiancé organised a lovely proposal here for me at of of thier private dining rooms and it was absolutely AMAZING! Our private waiter" Jonathan " was absolutely brilliant and amazing! The views are beautiful. I cant think of a better place to get proposed to then here honestly a dream come true and a wonderful night to remember 💕❤

Lovely setting great Sunday lunch

This is by far our favourite restaurant, even though we live very close to The Grove and Prime Chandlers Cross, so it’s quite a bit further. The service is always perfect, nothing is too much trouble and the staff are friendly, they smile! The dining room itself is spacious, modern and light, with lovely views over the 18th green (complete with ducks to watch, or the occasional dog). The reason we come back regularly though is the food, which is really excellent and well portioned, as in there’s just the right amount. We had dinner last night, with our 2 children (12 and 9) and it was perfect as usual, everyone cleared every plate. We often go on a Sunday, which is a smaller menu, fixed price for 2 or 3 courses, and is fantastic value for such a high end restaurant. Highly recommend, it’s the best.

Celebrated my Mum's 93rd birthday. Impressed from the reminder phone call to the warm welcome at reception. Venue is very modern and smart, a real country club feel. Restaurant overlooks 18th hole of the championship golf course. Comfy lounge area to wait (did need to prompt bar staff so we could order a drink). Set menu is short but nicely balanced. Had the Mackerel starter, followed by the roast chicken with potatoes and green beans. Starter was refreshing and served with warm soda bread. Chicken and sauce were tasty, potato was rather gooey, couldn't quite figure out what it was trying to be. Crumble dessert was to syrupy and needed more custard. Coffee ad chocolates were nice. Overall service was friendly and professional land they earned the 12.5% service charge. Room became very noisy as there were two large conference delegate tables in. We eventually asked to be moved to the Orangery which was done with little fuss and it was much easier to chat. Overall a vert pleasant dining experience - recommended.

Cannot speak too highly of our first afternoon tea at the Centurion Club for a family birthday celebration. From the initial booking onwards everything was perfect and given we were a group of nine with seven of us having varying dietary requirements, one had to be impressed with the organisation and service. The restaurant is beautifully laid out with great views over a lake and the golf course. The tea selection was great and each afternoon tea was individually served and everybody agreed it was the best afternoon tea they had ever had! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff; I would highly recommend the Centurion Club.

We hired the Orangery for a wake for a much loved family member. Eva was amazing from the the first day she showed us around. She was so empathetic and nothing was too much trouble. The Orangery is so beautiful and Calvin the chef came to speak to us about food options, again such a nice helpful man, he and Eva really made such a difference i can not speak highly enough of them. The food was outstanding, I can not recommend it enough. Thanks for all the hard work of all the staff, Kim was another staff member who had great customer service behind the bar. I can not recommend highly enough the Centurion for outstanding food and service

Such an amazing place for lunch. If you are thinking about going there just do it! You won't be disappointed!

Simply outstanding. The team working here are brilliant. Whoever runs this place should be proud. As we approached the front barriers we were approached by a friendly member of the team who greeted us and gave us a warm welcome. Wonderful first impression. The lady who met us in the venue was friendly and kindly put away our coats. Lovely lady. The waiters and bar staff in the restaurant were professional, friendly and on top of their game. We order vegan food which was simply delicious and in a league of it's own. It was best I have had it Hertfordshire and was clearly created by a genius and prepared with care and love. As far as I am concerned this was the best experience I have had in Hertfordshire and easily comparable to high end 5 star venues in London.

Afternoon Tea. Great service, great food, great venue! For a 21st birthday celebration. Only 4 of us but it was lovely. A glass of bubbly and an extra dessert for the birthday boy and two of the staff came and sang happy birthday with us. The selection of teas was brilliant. Answered all questions. Extremely friendly people. Would highly recommend and well done Centurion for having such lovely staff. Well worth the visit!

Christmas meal with friends. We were there a Friday night in December and only four other diners in restaurant. Meal poor, hardly anything on the plate. Extortionate for what it was. Very disappointed.

There are a bunch of low lifes who are seeking to have 100s of larch and beech trees felled at massive cost to the enviroment just so a few gammons can play an 18th hole.

Fantastic golf club great food and service.

You have to question a club that wants to cut down 180,000 sqm of woodland to make way for another 10 holes of golf. Have a read about their planning application on the BBC. Here's my simple view of the situation... the current woodland is amazing for nature and can be used by anyone; the golf course is a nature desert where nothing really lives and can only be used by people posh enough to pay the green fees. Fair?

Shame to see the club being greedy and wanting to cut a big chunk of ancient woodland to expand. Do we need more golf holes? No. They have no value to nature and vast majority of population. Do we need to preserve our ancient woodlands? Yes. We've lost too much prescious habitats and places for every member of public to enjoy. Shame on you Centurion.

Just reading about the Centurion's plans to bulldoze some nice bluebell woods to lay out 10 new golf holes. While Hertfordshire is very short on woodland, we're definitely not short on exclusive golf courses only used by people rich enough to pay for the privilege.

I had the most amazing Afternoon Tea as a retirement treat with a large group from work. The choice of teas was incredible, as was the effort put into making each pot. The selection of sandwiches were great, the scones were out of this world and the patisserie selection was varied and tasty. The room in which it was served had lovely decor, as did the entrance and rooms we walked through and there is plenty of parking. This is an amazing venue for a really special Afternoon Tea, which won't break the bank.

Had a lovely Christmas dinner at the centurion. Would highly recommend, the staff were very friendly and professional. It's so much better here than the overpriced and very overrated Grove hotel in Chandlers Cross.

Big birthday Sunday lunch. Booked here as we had heard Calvin the chef had relocated there from another high class establishment. Invited our friends and no one was disappointed even our vegetarian friend who they catered for bespokely. Calvin and the team smashed it out of the park. Waiting staff although young were attentive and gave superb service. We couldn't fault them. Calvin , Helen and the team thank you so much for making it such a memorable occasion.

Food was absolutely delicious would have given 5* however they didn’t have a few items on the menu left which was a real let down. Service was great, ambience was nice, we had hoped to be seated in the back room which is really pretty. Highly recommend this place and I’ll be returning very soon.

I took my husband for lunch at the Centurion on Tuesday 24 October 2023. The food was absolutely delicious and the service first class. Jade who served us was really lovely and extremely helpful. Our experience was memorable and I would have no hesitation in giving the Centurion five star rating! I have happened several times at the Centurion and I have never been disappointed!

Delicious three course price fixe lunch. Tasty, well presented dishes. Excellent level of service. Bright, spacious dining area that feels like a quality hotel. Great views over the final hole on the golf course.

Really lovely lunch for our 12th wedding anniversary. Food totally delicious and very well presented. Was nice and quiet as was the last week in summer hols which was actually nice to enjoy the peace with lovely views of the 18th hole. Staff very friendly and attentive. We were given some petit fours as a treat with a greetings plate. Place was spotless and very well maintained. We saw a few afternoon teas being taken to tables which looked delicious! So may return to try one of these soon!

It was a fantastic day with my little girl. She got to enjoy her first golf tournament and it was a brilliant event. I can't give 5 stars because of 2 things though - 1. The handling of the people on the 18th hole where we herded into a dead end and had to crush in for 15 minutes. 2. The absolute chaos of trying to exit the parking.

Amazing golf course with a great club house

Hosted both my son’s christening events here, one back in the summer of 2019 and again this September. The food was exquisite and everything was so fresh and delicious! The portion sizes were really generous. The staff were super attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. We regularly visit for lunch on weekends too. The events team were super helpful and made sure our day was planed to go smoothly and exactly how we wanted. The venue itself and the decor are luxurious and very clean. Pricing is very reasonable. Would highly recommend.
