This café has become a special part of my everyday life—not just because of the consistently delicious coffee, but because of the amazing people who make it feel like a second home. Velina, the wonderful owner, has created such a warm and welcoming space, and the incredible team—Shayna, Neetu, and Josh—greet you with genuine kindness and a smile every single day. As someone who’s vegan, I really appreciate how they go the extra mile to offer plant-based options. It’s such a thoughtful touch that makes me feel truly seen and valued as a customer. The coffee is always top-notch—smooth, rich, and brewed just right—but what truly sets this place apart is the heart behind it. It’s more than just a coffee stop; it’s a space filled with positive energy, care, and a sense of community that’s hard to find. I’m so grateful to have this little gem as part of my daily routine—it makes every morning brighter.

I have been using the Cafe Roma in St Peter's Street St Albans for many years. It's situated near St Catherine's St and handy for the market and shops. But under the previous long-term owners, the place was looking a little tired. However, the new owners have given the place a much needed makeover. They offer delicious snacks, cakes, and sandwiches. Their coffees are great and there are plenty of choices of other hot and cold drinks. Their toasted mozzarella and tomato sandwich is my favourite snack if I want a quick bite to eat.. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The coffee bar has a step free access but the customer toilet facilities are up two steps at the rear of the shop.

It’s rare to find a spot where the service feels this thoughtful and the people feel like friends. I’m so grateful for this little haven—it truly makes every day better.

My hot chocolate was very nice. The staff was nicer than my hot chocolate. And the hot chocolate was something different. There was even a cat on my hot chocolate. Remember to take your lids of your drinks for a wonderful surprise.

I had a group of 10 friends round and they accommodated us even though they were really busy. We got great food and service. I was proud to have shown off St Albans best in my eyes. There was a particular fondness of boiled egg with fingers!

As a st albans local i really like this cafe. Good coffee and nice cakes. The big bonus for me is they will put your almond croissant in the oven for you and serve it hot. The service is always charming.

Popped in for a quick bite and a coffee on the off chance. Super friendly staff but you feel very welcome! The coffee was super high quality, beyond expectations. Food menu is simple but well priced and good quality food. High recommend

They serve the best black Americano coffee. I visited on 5 occasions on Sunday 17th November 2024 as we were working on the Christmas Cracker event.

Visiting from Australia, we have it pretty tough to get a decent cup of coffee. Not sure how you guys accept such terrible coffee from the chains in this country, however stumbled across this place on our final day and genuinely reminded me of the coffee back home. Very good service and charming character.

I must admit the last time I came here was over 3 years ago, however I heard about the new owner taking over so though I would give it another chance. Well I must admit, what an improvement, the coffee was so nice and the environment has changed so much. I had a freshly made bacon roll and it was delicious. Well done to the new owner, I shall definitely be back.

Lovely cafe with a great choice of delicious food, coffee was excellent. Staff were amazing - a customer was taken ill and they put all their skills to work to help until the ambulance arrived. Very emotional for everyone, but they put on brave faces and even apologised for any delay to the service! Well done team Roma!

The best coffee shop in St Albans. Super friendly staff. The breakfast options are excellent. Love their new autumn menu and especially their pistachio late. Really cosy and welcoming place. I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a great place to spend time with family and friend.

Having been a regular customer at Cafe Roma for 27 years since being taken under new ownership/management this year it is no longer the friendly welcoming place it was. On my first visit under this new ownership I witnessed a longstanding gentle quiet learning disabled man being refused service and told he could not come in for no grounds other than that he is disabled. He was very upset and despite repeated request to order a cup of tea, he was refused. He could not understand why they were being "nasty". I will never set foot there again.

('The Best' ) Cafe in Saint Albans . I met Gantz when he first Opened in 1976 , Caught up with him the other day ; when he quizzed me .I said 1977 . I rated his coffee blends 10 /10 . To get good coffee in those days I had to travel into london , which I did every weekend .He has ,Without fail : (kept the same standard) . Top man , The Staff are top notch ... Dog friendly which is a great convenience when you travel with your little ones. Very sweet local cafe. Most of the clients are regular which makes the atmosphere homy and relaxed. Lovely team, very attentive when it comes to placing an order. At 11:00 on Saturday cafe was busy but buzzing just enough. Decent choice of pastries and light breakfast. Great capuchino

Excellent tasting coffee, if you are looking for that optimum combination of strength taste and consistency I can recommend the cappuccino, currently being served with a customised chocolate design on top, this was mine today, I’ve been in every day this week, perfectly balanced taste and the best coffee available in St Albans in my experience. Also try the Raspberry Bakewell, being a pastry aficionado in can recommend this. Delightful friendly service in a real continental cafe atmosphere both inside and outside.

Went for a quick breakfast after staying in one of the large hotels near by. Great range of options for breakfast ,especially the danish pastries and apple cake. To be recommended.

Superb lunch deal. Any coffee and a bowl of freshly made pasta £8! I had the mussels pasta which was superb. Atmosphere is like a genuine Italian cafe downstairs and more restaurant style upstairs.

We have been coming for weeks just for the lovely coffee. The food menu is limited but delicious would definitely recommend the sausage in a roll. The staff are wonderful and very friendly .There is a delicious selection of pastries and cakes. Looking forward to our next visit.

For me, the loveliest coffee in our city and made with care and attention. Today was a freebie for my loyalty to the new owner. I have been a regular here for many years and the new owner improves everything so that now it’s ever so special. The coffee and food is delicious in this beautiful cafe towards the end of St Peters Street nearest the church. The staff are so friendly and the atmosphere in there is lovely, highly recommend the latte.

Very friendly cafe. Lovely coffee This is one of the few traditional cafes left on the high street with a very friendly feel. (Most others are the usual boring chains.) Would recommend sitting outside and enjoying a lovely coffee.

This is a lovely independent coffee shop in the centre of St Albans. It is recently under new ownership and has been given a makeover. The staff are friendly, atmosphere relaxed and the coffee and cakes are great! If you like Victoria sponge this is the place for you and the almond croissants can only be described as enormous. The outdoor seating is a real bonus for sitting and watching the world go by. If you haven't tried it yet I would and if you've tried it before and didn't like it why not give it another go and see what you think of the changes, but save me a seat :-)

Hadn’t been here in a few months and wow it’s been revitalised!!! Great new decor and the coffee tasted better than ever! Special mention to the amazing choice of cakes and savouries!! Excellent local cafe. The coffee is delicious. I also like the selection of pastries. And the staff are attentive and friendly. Only downside is the WiFi as the Cafe does not have guest WiFi, only The Cloud which many times does not work.

I recently moved to St Albans and today I have finally tried the coffee here. YES!! Only yesterday I was disappointed by the taste of another business I won't mention here, and I went in here with apprehension (I'm Italian, from Rome!), but was so so happy about the coffee, I'm actually leaving happily humming along. This is the taste of good, balanced coffee as the Italians like it. I hear the owner is not even Italian, but German... Well, well done you! See you soon and very often!

A little cosy Caffe on Peter's street with good choice of different variety of coffees and cakes. We tried almond and pecan tarts, not bad prices.
