Good crispy golden chips, lumpy and delicious mushy peas. Good service and polite servers. Clean and tidy. Quite expensive for what we had though.

After a very busy day at work, we thought fish and chips was a good idea. It was a good idea but, definitely not from here. If I hadn’t been so tired and hungry or had 2 very hungry children I would have driven back with the food. Fish and chips over cooked, peas stone cold, baby portions. Most of it is in the bin, it was absolutely disgusting. I would be embarrassed to serve this rubbish. Poor customer service and no pride, shouldn’t be allowed to rip people off like this. Cod and chips twice, sausage and cod £23!!! Daylight robbery 😡😡😡😡

I am at the point of never wanting to go here again due to the staff. The place is being run by children who are rude to customers and ask weird questions (i.e. guess my age?!?). They clearly have not had enough customer service training and needs to be quickly, significantly improved. The only reason we go back (and I send in my husband) is that the batter is really crispy. Cheaper shops in town with MUCH better service.

Dropped in about 12.30 ordered the standard Cod and Chips. The fish was freshly cooked, good portion but the chips were only warm. Not very busy for the time of day. The staff were efficient, and appeared happy.

My children and myself stopped at the restaurant for a quick lunch. The staff were friendly but the lady who served me did not listen to my order correctly. I ordered one battered sausage and a large portion of chips for us to share plus 3 drinks. When food arrived (promptly) it was a battered sausage on a small plate with a handful of chips. I asked if this was a large and she replied no but I can bring a few more out. She left and came back with a plate with more chips. We ate all and then went to pay, when she printed out receipt she had charged me a sausage and chips meal and an extra portion of large chips. I expressed that this is not what I actually ordered in the first place, you said you were bringing me out a few extra to make up for the large portion. She said that she had brought me a large portion second time round. I tried to explain that what she initially brought me was incorrect and in trying to “make up for it” you have basically ripped me off. My children were fed up, she obviously was not going to own up to her error so I payed and left. In my opinion I believe she knew exactly what she was doing when she overcharged me and over ordered for me. I will never come back again. Rumbles all the way now!

A new business with a steep learning curve ahead of them. The staff can't take phone orders to save their lives. On two occasions we asked for haddock only to find cod when we got home the first time and extremely under-cooked batter the second. Worst yet, a third [and definitely final] visit resulted in three of our party [two in their nineties] having serious stomach upset for 24 hours. The manager was deeply apologetic, but three strikes are enough for me. So very tempted to call the Food Standards Agency, but I'll just be taking my wallet elsewhere in future instead.

Came in today at lunchtime for something to eat and to get away from the rain! When I sat down, I saw on the menu that they don't serve "just chips" for customers sitting down in the restaurant. I was about to leave, but a very friendly staff member was happy to serve me a portion of chips on its own anyway, which tasted delicious. Slightly pricey (£2.60 for a regular portion), but you get what you pay for. Would definitely recommend!

This chippy is no longer Central Fish Bar, it has been Deep Blue since December 2016 and if you need to eat Gluten Free, this is the place for you. As a Celiac I'm always on the look out for Gluten Free fish & chips, and here is a gem. I've been 3 times and the service and food are very good, The restaurant is clean and fresh and the staff are great. I've been served twice by Emily and her customer service is excellent, a nice touch here is being asked as your meal is put on the table, whether you would like any sauces or mayo and then they are brought out in little individual dishes, no sachets, I've had Gluten Free sausage and chips and today, Gluten Free fish and chips with mushy peas, it was top notch. Well done to all at Deep blue for getting it right, service and food. Thanks

Bien hecho equipo Ramsden.

I recently stopped in for a quick bite and found the Central Fish Bar to be a clean and quick place to grab a snack. The premises are a bit dated, but typical of chippies up and down the land. The restaurant area is rather spacious, and while the furnishings are of the older diner/fish bar type, it is nonetheless pleasant. The menu offerings are more than what you would typically expect. While the standard cod and chips, and fish cake type fare is available, they also offer jacket potatoes, and full English breakfasts. WiFi is also available, and the main reason for going - the food is good quality and fairly priced. The frying oil seems clean, and the resulting food is golden and crisp.

The pensioners lunch offer is just that, a" what it says on the tin" offer, good fish ,chips ,mushy peas and tea . Comfortable -no but this is get it, eat it and get out establishment. Given that many places serve far less food for far more money if you fancy fish and chips and you've passed the retirement mark you will be very happy here.

Food was lovely but everytime a customer left the door stuck and between three different customers we had to get up and close it as the draught was terrible. Some of the customers were elderly and it ruined our dinner to have to get up at least 10 times between three tables. Surely a small problem that could easily be sorted out! We decided to sit in because it was cold outside but we were just as cold inside.

Stopped off at the central fish bar for our lunch with our children whilst on our visit to see family in newmarket. It was very tasty the batter on the fish was just right nice & crispy and not too greasy the chips are large and in big quantities. Very good prices for such a large meal its a winner for us. The staff are friendly and helpful too. The tables were clean and plenty of room to be seated. Would definitely recommend this place.

Our family of five adults had a meal in the restaurant and from previous experience new that a large cod and chips overflowed the plate so the ladies shared a portion between two (for which the staff were happy to provide extra plates/cutlery). All the food was cooked fresh, so we had to wait a few minutes, and the chips were very good and the cod was OK. Friendly service in a clean restaurant.

I called in here , just for a bag of chips, at tea time , to nibble at , on my way home. By the time I had reached the car park , around the corner, ......the few chips that I had eaten ,( Not a very good standard), left.... exposed... a VERY small array of Scraps and Potato detritus. that I would expect only a starving animal to scavenge. I took the remainder of the tray back to the shop to express my disgust. I was met with a negative attitude , and an offer to replace the food.....''food?'' I declined their offer, and asked for a refund. They declined a monetary refund. Further words were exchanged and I left. ...I will never go back there. One pound eighty pence , for a medium sized potato , decimated and turned into animal food .......Never again!!!

What could be better than fish and chips and mushy peas after a morning shopping in Newmarket. The food is freshly cooked so there is a short wait but the special lunch is great value at £6.10. and that includes a mug of either tea or coffee. Don't expect finesse but the place is clean having just been completely refurbished, and the staff are all very friendly and operate a table service. What more could you want?

Central Fish Bar, almost across the National Horseracing Museum, is a good option to have something fresh and tasty to eat, and you don't have to wait long for your meal; you can have a seat inside or outside the restaurant, or take the meal away. And a "small" portion from the menu is really very huge.

A memorable stay in a hotel with a unique history, once owned by the King of England. It’s come a long way since James I walked its halls—he wouldn’t have had the pleasure of the comfortable beds and room temperature control. Nor would he have been able to savor the delicious hotel menu or enjoy the fancy cocktails. He would certainly be proud that it’s now in the hands of Manager Ruth and her team, who make your stay exceptional with their warm welcomes and constant attention to detail. Overall, it's a 10 out of 10 from me for this wonderful hotel in a beautiful and fascinating part of the country.
