Amazing staff! Beautiful fresh food and they’ve added American burgers to the menu! The chips and curry sauce is always perfect!

Batter on fish tasted burnt chips tasted stale like they had been refried i was very disappointed and will not be returning.

Usually the best fish and chips ever….but not tonight. Telephoned order to collect at 530. Turned up on time. Sensed chaos in food prep and service. Saw a box placed on side having come from back of kitchen not the hot plates in front of me and 10 minutes later handed to me. Fish was awful tasted like it was cooked yesterday. It was a large haddock and chips to share and the majority went in bin. The batter looked old and tasted stale. Sorry after many years I am now going to pick up from our local pub.

Cooked to order, the fish and chips from Caught were delicious. A generous piece of flakey cod, coated in crispy batter (grease free) was accompanied by a sizable portion of hot chips (again grease free), the regular serving was enough for 2 people! The mushy peas were great too. I will be back for more!

if the young girl had gone any slower our food would've been out of date by the time it was handed to us, it was painful watching her move , it was so slow. Perhaps emply a sloth to speed up the process of dishing up our food. Im sure a sloth would also have had a better personality & customer service skills. She clearly didn't want to be there. We were the only ones in so no excuse that she was rushed off her feet. I've never seen anyone take so long to put 2 boxes of fish & chips in a bag. got home to find fish had been rammed into the box and was all broken and cold & a pot of mushy peas instead of the curry sauce we HAD ordered . The chips were stale & tasted like they were left over from lunchtime or even yesterday and the batter on the fish was dry & heavy, the fish was stale, seemed like it was about 4 days old. We won't be returning despite using 'caught' for several years. Don't waste your money here it's dreadful. 4/10 is being generous.

I go to Caught on a regular basis and order just chips. It is usually busy and I get very frustrated as I usually have to wait for more than 20 minutes just for chips even though the chips are available to serve. Everyone else is waiting for other things with their chips which obviously takes longer as it is cooked to order. I don’t mind waiting but the staff should serve the chips if they are available. I would give 5 stars if they were quicker.

We have been to Caught several times on Monday evenings as they do Gluten free fish and chips on Monday evenings. Usually the food is reasonable but last Monday (4th Sept) the Gluten free fish was lovely but the chips were very tired and appeared to have been reheated. For 48 hours after eating this meal, my husband and I were both ill and we can only conclude that the reheated chips had been left over from the lunchtime opening and had originally been cooked in oil containing Gluten. Being reheated in the evening they would still have retained Gluten contamination from the lunchtime frying. We were very disappointed-not to mention being quite ill- and, obviously, will not be visiting Caught in Romsey again as it is not worth the risk for us. To be charitable, maybe the staff need more training in Gluten free procedures and were unaware that reheating chips fried in gluten-contaminated oil would cause a problem.

We come here often with the service users where I work,they look forward to getting lunch there when we visit Romsey for a day out,we have never been let down,always been fresh and hot chips ect.Staff very friendly and helpful.no complaints at all.

I love fish and chips, it was a cold August day, so popped in to order. I decided upon a pea fritter and small chips, the take away was busy at this time, so i expected fresh chips etc. After waiting, i was given the pea fritter and chips, salt and vinegar, and a serviette . I took this back to my car as it was too cold and wet to sit outside. Sadly, i was very disappointed. The food was hot, but thin, overcooked, dry chips, with hardly any potato filling, and a very dry pea fritter. needless to say, i ate a few chips and a bite of the pea fritter , before deciding it was just not good enough. As my car park fee was due to expire, i just binned it and drove home, very disappointed. this is such a same, i thought the recent reviews were very over rated compared to what i got on the day.

My last visit to this chip shop. Overcooked chips which I'm convinced have been reheated from lunch. Overdose of salt, enough to open a small salt mining business in the locality. This also made them totally inedible. I've never seen the same member of staff in this shop in my previous visits, today I was confronted with 2 clueless teenagers who had no idea what they were doing. So chips, curry sauce and a can of coke cost £7.70. And oddly enough you have to wait 10 minutes for your order, this is no doubt due to their "cooking everything from fresh to order" policy. Considering we were given chips reheated from lunch, I can't understand the wait?

Pre-ordered 2 hours in advance. Still had to wait 20 mins from requested time for our food to be ready. Staff were rude. Fish was over cooked & dry. Won’t be returning. Shame as staff incapable of dealing with peak times. Used to be the best fish Fish & Chips in Romsey … sadly no more. No pleases, no thank yous .. rude to me when said the word “fries” … and no apologies for the delay. Customer service at it’s worst.

We always buy our fish and chips from here as they are so tasty and generous portions. Easy to drive up to and park nearby on an evening.

Popped in just for chips. Had to wait for them to be fried but as the counter assistant said ‘they are always best fresh’. When they arrived they were as good as ever. Crispy outside and fluffy inside. Had without salt or vinegar to really taste the potato flavour. Sad to see some negative reviews recently as this has been for years the best chip shop in Hampshire if not England.

By far the best fish and chip shop in Romsey. We use on a regular basis and Oscar a young lad usually serves us. . He's super friendly, efficient and a real credit to Caught.

I placed my order and waited with other customers. Looking around it looked as if the tiled floor had not been washed for a long time and the doorway hadn't been swept. Not a good sign. When the food arrived the chips were overcooked and dry. The chicken was also so overcooked that it was too dry and it didn't smell good either. They were busy but they seem to be trading on reputation rather than quality. I hope the owners see this so that improvements can be made.

As I was in Church Street Romsey, around 2pm on a Wednesday, thought that I would give Caught another chance to prove themselves worthy of a good review by them selling nice food. This was in case it was the “evening staff on duty” who were to blame for the last lot of dodgy chips that I got. But once again they served up awful chips! I also had a battered sausage which had burnt old batter in it, as if it had been sat waiting for some mug to order it!Glutton for punishment eh?Unlike the place I went to on Monday evening which was Goodies near The Plaza and their chips and sausages were wonderful.So it’s Goodies for me very time from now on!Won’t be Caught again!

Wonderful fresh cooked food but seems to be a little disorganised in terms of serving etc. Lots of staff but no-one seems to take charge of how things run.

I was certainly “Caught” out here again.I visited Caught at around 7pm on Thursday 6th August and was sold the most atrocious bag of chips ever. As a child we would have called them scraps and got them for free. But I only noticed this bag of inedible food when I got home.With the COVID-19 screens up it is now possible for the person serving to put any old rubbish in your bag or box. It is only when you get to a place to eat them, that you see that you have been sold a pup.In my case, it was when my wife unwrapped her chips to find an almost inedible meal.Please try to get back to your normal high standard or do I have to go back to Chinese chips again!

Visited there last night with 2 other adults and 2 children, we all agreed that these were by far the best fish and chios we;d eaten, light and crispy batter on the fish and golden, crispy chips, just how I like them, well done everyone in the shop.

We stopped here to get fish and chips before heading home. After reading the reviews we thought it would be pretty good. My whole family (including my 2 year old) loves fish and chips and we eat it regularly so I’m quite picky when choosing where to buy it from. We were on holiday near Romsey so thought this place looked good and as you’re not too far from the coast thought it might be good. How wrong could be. If we’re weren’t staying 20 mins away from this restaurant and didn’t have small children I would have taken it all back as we spent over 20 pounds on 2 meals and a kids meal. It so sooooooo overcooked. The chips were rock hard. The batter on the fish was rock hard and then soggy on the inside and the fish was thin and so bland. It was so bad my toddler who loves chips didn’t even eat the chips. That’s the biggest review. I didn’t eat mine as it was so tough to eat. I am not sure if we just picked a day that the owners weren’t in as it was 3 young people looking after the place. The girl serving us was lovely and the mushy peas were good. The only two good points. It’s been a long time since I’ve had food I haven’t eaten so I had to leave feedback.

This was our second visit to buy fish and chips. We did get there just at the evening opening time, and can only think we were served the leftovers from lunchtime. It was very dry and not much fish, lots of batter. We were disappointed as had had a much better meal from there in the summer. Hopefully it was just a one off. Will try again!

Reeet Proper Fish and Chips...what I call Chip Shop Chips and a lovely lightly battered plaice, Mrs had Cod (Nicely flaked), she covers it in curry sauce which is alien to me, but evreyone to their own. Not too long a wait all cooked fresh and priced well. Nice counter service, a definite revisit for us when we are in the area.

Just tried tonight for the first time. Went at opening time so there was a bit of a wait (20 mins) but the chips were perfect :-) Nice and clean shop too.

We usually have locally caught fish but whilst away this week, had lunch from Caught faith & Chips. It was well cooked, no bone, no skin, perfect batter. Decent size chip portion, the best curry sauce I have had in a while from a chippy.

After a long day following a house move to Romsey, we tried out the local fish & chip shop. In the shadow of the Abbey, Caught provided us with perfect Haddock. It was freshly cooked in a wonderful crisp batter - no greasy stodge!

I live not far from the fish and chip shop and started using them when I moved here last year. So easy to order over the phone and walk down to collect! The best fish & chips I’ve ever had!

The chips were hot and fresh, plus the portions were huge! Good price for the size you get and the staff are really friendly :)

This to my mind is the best fish & chips in Romsey, there is usually a queue but you don't have to wait long, the fish is always succulent and fresh and the prawns in batter really great.

The food here is great. The chicken nuggets are real chicken breast not reformed and the variety of food is exceptional. There is a good menu selection too.

Only available on a Monday night, I think. Sampled their gluten free fish and chips - a rare treat. They were very good. Batter was nice and crunchy, good size portions. I ordered at lunch time so the food was ready when I went to pick it up. Will definitely be back.

Used regularly and always found good, however this time I orders large fish which the batter was rock hard, thick and disguised the fact there was hardly any fish inside. I ordered a separate portion of chips as these were for the curry sauce. When handed over the chips were inside the box with the fish and when questioned was advised that’s how it’s done. When got home to separate the meals was shocked to discover there were around 13 chips - this is not a potion. I will not be revisiting as customer service shocking this time and the food was not edible

Excellent Fish and Chips - nice chips not soggy and fish that is cooked with crispy batter but not dry - its a treat when i go to visit my Mother - worth phoning up to order otherwise its a bit of a wait

can't complain, everythings fresh, plenty of variety, homemade scampi with tartar sauce, good kids deals, proper fish and chip shop!

Sometimes the fish and chips from here are fabulous and we cannot believe how fresh and tasty they are. Other times such as this evening they are not. I wonder if it depends on who makes or applies the batter or the heat of the oil. Tonight the batter was dry and not crispy. The chips were dry. Disappointed. Better luck next time. If only they were consistent.

Always see long queues outside this place so we eventually managed to get ourselves there to try. Lovely fish with a tasty batter & yummy chips. Happy to wait when it’s freshly cooked. Staff were pleasant enough.

Just wanted a portion of chips, which I was pleased to see were freshly fried! I bought a buttered roll, got home to find the chips were virtually all scraps and the butter wasn’t butter, it was margarine, even my iPhone autocorrect can’t find margarine.

Went at 5.45pm on Thursday evening. No customers and now I know why. Just ordered chips. They were awful. We reckon they were lunchtimes leftovers reheated. Very greasy. Definitely won't be returning.

You wait a little longer at this chip shop due to it being cooked fresh the fish is lovely properly cooked and the chips are nice it’s not greasy lunch time special fish n chips £4.80well worth it

Visited last Saturday night with my boyfriend after a long time! He wasn’t keen to drive so far but I promised him it was worth the 20 minute drive! And I’m pleased to report it was! We loved our meals! We both bought kids meals as they are such good value for money and just enough food for both of us! The chicken bites are amazing! Whenever I order a full adult portion I find it’s too much for me. Only slight disappointment was the onion rings were off sale!

Very expensive with the fish being double battered. Was it cooked twice as it was very dry and the chips were horried? At £8 it was over priced. Will never go back.

We were passing and fancied fish and chips so in we popped. Very friendly lady behind the counter mentioned our fish would take 5/6 mins but that wasn't an issue. Fish was worth the wait, nice batter and a good size. Chips were good but have to say the small portion is quite miserly. Good chippy, would use if in the area.

Caught is by far the best fish & chip shop in Romsey. The food is always very good and the service is as quick as it can be as it always seems busy! The lunch deal is great- £4.50 for small cod & chips

Very good fried fish, regular fries. Regular portions. Very adequate, not excepcional. Will order from them if needed, will not go out of my way to get it... Friendly staff, clean shop.

Popular chippy right by Romsey abbey- with quite a reputation- people go out of their way to get some and it is top quality. Freshly cooked so unless you phone ahead expect a 10 minutes wait once you have ordered. Takeaway only but plenty of options to enjoy you outdoor meal by the abbey . Gluten free on Mondays. My only request would be sustainably sourced fish - this isn’t clear as things stand, and some less mainstream options- whiting, pollock gurnard etc are all cheap, sustainable and tasty but not on offer.

The quality of the fish was ok but they had run out of large cod and the standard portion was the same as the small. Chips were variable as well with most soggy. It is not as good as it used to be.

Food was good, but not sure it was worth the amount of time I had to wait. I have been on several occasions and always waiting for it to be cooked. For this reason, I will not be returning

Being new to the Romsey area we had not tried this shop before. We were very pleased with our first visit. My wife's plaice was large and was very tasty. I had a medium cod and we had large chips. The whole meal was very good, and the serving staff were friendly and efficient. We shall return as this looks like the best F&C;'s in town.

Best chippy in Romsey. Lovely succulent fish and fantastic chips. The service is always as quick as it can be even during busy times. They have great week day lunch time specials- £4.40 for fish and chips. Great if you work in Romsey!

Popped in 15 mins before they close at 2.30. After being asked what i would like and ordering fish and chips, i was then told very abruptly that they have stopped cooking. Fish and chips are normally good from here. Service this afternoon was not.

We reached this fish and chip shop just before closing time. Unlike other places that give you the dregs they still cooked fresh fish and chips for us. They were delicious. The batter on the meaty cod was crispy and not too thick and the chips were crispy on the outside and soft and hot in the middle. Would definitely go back there if we are in the area again.

We have enjoyed eating our fish and chips cooked by Caught over a number of years, we did stray from time to time and ate from other shops but always came back to Caught, I guess you could say we have been hooked!

This is my local chippy, you can order by phone then pick up when ready, get great kids meals for THOSE days and always be assured of great taste and generous portions. Fresh cooked yummyness and pickled eggs too!

Went after friends recommended. Started to order chicken nuggets for my son only to be told that they weren't frying anything new and the choice was from what they already had cooked - medium cod. We settled for battered sausage and chips for my son and pie and chips each for my partner and I. Considering the fact that all of the items we had ordered were already cooked the wait for our order was very long - best part of 20mins. When it was served, the order was wrong and incomplete. Only giving 3 stars because when they finally got the order right, the food was delicious.

This is an OK fish and chip place. There's nothing especially good, nor especially bad. It does what it does. Prices are perhaps a tad above average, and the selection is a bit unadventurous, but it is what it is.

Bought some chips in the evening. The 'standard' was incredibly small, that was disappointing. Curry sauce was nice but it is very expensive.But the taste was nice to be fair.Was even more disappointed by the fact that when I asked for a box to eat the chips and curry sauce I was denied. Even after I pointed out the fact the sauce would drip through the bag (which it did). I think the guy who served me could do with some training or the 'rules'about boxes should change, just silly. I had a battered sausage and chips for around four pounds. The portion of chips was a decent size and all very tasty. Had food from caught previously and not enjoyed it but thought I'd give it another go. Still prefer goodies but I will definitely come back.

The chips are the best around. Portion sized are generous so I know I can get a "small" and feel full after.

Rang up with a large order. Very helpful and polite. Food was ready for the collection time and the order spot on. Food was lovely and perfect portion size.
