CAU Wimbledon in City of London, Westminster

Sadly this popular High Street Argentinian steakhouse has served its last steak on July 19, 2018 -- part of a cost-cutting measure by the parent company trying to save the rest of their business (Gaucho restaurants). It's been a tough time for many restaurants -- reportedly the central issue at CAU was rising rents which were unsustainable.

Service a little inattentive both for drinks and the bill, music too loud for a Sunday brunch - but food delicious.

Outstanding gin tonics in happy hour! They were delicious. The onion and goats cheese flatbread was ok but too for my taste too dry. The medallions were nicely presented and nice. The waiters were very mindful with my friend’s dietary requirements.

We had a nice and informal meal at this modern restaurant in cosy Wimbledon Village . Tasty olives followed by mains Chicken Parmagina and half a Spatchuck served with a good Malbec made our evening pleasant . We recommend Cau to all our friends .

Had brunch at Cau in Wimbledon Village with a few friends; everyone was happy with their meal. Good coffee too. Reasonably priced also for the area. Will be back for sure

Was Ok. My husband had the steak which was good. I had the fish and asked to change the gnocchi to fresh fries. The answer was no, not paying extra at those prices! Fish was also good but wouldn’t go back. Only two others in restaurant at lunch time on a Friday Wimbledon week so I think that says it all.

Had a wonderful time. The managers are thoughtful and treat you really well. We had the most amazing waiter who was always around when needed but left us alone and didn’t keep asking us how the food was. He also suggested what we should eat and drink which was great. The cocktails are lovely and reasonably priced.

Lovely food as always. Service was particularly great on this occasion (good also on previous occasions). Good place to go for well cut and cooked steak.

We visited one evening with some family for an evening meal. Excellent food and a really fun atmosphere. We will definitely visit again.

Food is always very good<br /><br />On the last 2 occasions we have visited the service could have been better.<br /><br />The waiters didnt seem to know who had ordered what.<br /><br />One lot if chips were cold and had to be sent back.<br /><br />Not all drinks were captured on the order as the waiter didnt do this in a consistant order. He said he would come back to drinks after we had ordered all the food<br />..but did not<br /><br />The waiter said he would feed this back but seemed empty promise.

I celebrated my 24th Birthday at Cau Wimbledon with my boyfriend and family, we all thoroughly enjoyed our starters and mains. Everything from the service to the food was amazing with great attention to detail. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to everyone, so all in all it was a great experience.<br />Only one thing is that we couldn&#039;t find a disabled toilet for the baby changing area for my niece!

Very disappointing. Food was very poor quality, especially the burger which was small and unimpressive for an Argentinean restaurant. Nothing was prepared freshly so food was cold and heavily fried. The wrong order was brought to our table so we had to eat at different times - this was blamed on business of staff but restaurant was half full. £82 for 2 adults, 1 child. Extortionate for fast food chain.

Fantastic steak, wine and atmosphere. As much as I love Buenos Aires down the hill, would rate CAU higher... Looking forward to the next time.

Food and service were great. We had a lot of questions which were well answered and had a great bottle of wine recommended to us. The restaurant was full but not loud and we didn&#039;t feel rushed either. A great place for a special dinner.

This was my 2nd visit to CAU this year. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. Both times i came with family and friends. I have teenage children who found something they liked. The staff were polite friendly and informative. They were also happy to make changes to the menu to cater for our lack interest in mushrooms. The setting and ambiance would suit both being smartly dress or casual smart. Well worth a visit or 2.

Always lovely - we go there as a family and never tire of the Sunday Roast! Perfect Father&#039;s Day grub.

We had a table for 2 adults and 2 children. The adults food was delicious. The children both had steak skewers which were very chewy and neither ate them though they usually enjoy steak. Strangely the veg accompanying the kids steak skewers were a few sweet potato crisps (nice) and a very spicy coleslaw which neither could eat! They both very much enjoyed the sugar laden kids desserts though!<br />Would come again as the adult steaks were amazing.

We booked for our wedding anniversary and on arrival were given two complimentary glasses of Prosseco!! The service was fantastic and as always food delicious.

2 days ago<br />I have made a reservation online, and I was happy to be asked if it was a special occasion. It was our wedding anniversary soon to be ruined. The service was horrible. The starter was good but when the main came everything started to go wrong. The steak that was supposed to be rare was raw, bleeding all over the plate. We asked for drinks when the mains were served, the drinks were going to be served when we finished eating (we refused the drinks). We ordered desert, after 10 minutes waiting we were asked if we were waiting for the cheque. Another 10 minutes later I went up to the waiter and said that we just wanted to leave, we were not going to wait any more. The cheque came with service charge, that the waiter looked a bit surprised when I refused to pay. DON&#039;T GO!

A good but not great restaurant, good meat but not for the money. Portions smaller than announced. There were many times when there weren’t any waiters in sight.

I visited Cau with my family, the table service was 10/10 the food was 10/10 cau Wimbledon is definitely the best I visited.

This is basically a no frill version of Gaucho - means same amazing steak but at about half the cost. Also the supervisor was fantastic. Only issue is no gluten free starters - but apparently this is changing in the new menu soon!

Overpriced. Fatty food. My family members and I felt unwell afterwards because of all the grease. The portions were really stingy and they made up for it with dollops of salsa.

Mejor filete que me he comido en mucho tiempo y a un precio muy razonable para Wimbledon. Patatas fritas de camote eran fantásticos. . Lejos de patatas grandes. grandes y poco hecha. What a great way to start the royal wedding celebrations. Delicious breakfast. Prompt, friendly and efficient service. Highly recommended. Will be back. Will be back for my 61st birthday celebrations in July. My 60th birthday lunch at Cau, last year, was a memorable occasion.

Early evening meal with friends. Shown to table given menu but didn,t see waiter for next 15 minutes, no drinks offered. Eventually got served, wine and food good. Service ok but waiter not enthusiastic about serving the table, interested in getting things sorted out in main restaurant. Plenty of places in Wimbkedon village where they serve steak and like your custom.

I took my date there for his birthday. We had never eaten at Cau and the food was really good. The pork belly to start with was amazing and the steaks were so so good. The servers really know their cuts of steak and we’re able to advise us on what cut to go for, which was really good. Good knowledge of wine also and a good wine list. <br />They gave us a complimentary cake for his birthday with a candle in it which was a nice touch.<br />Nice place for a date very smart and modern.

There were only 6 diners and 3 waiting staff yet we still only got our drinks after we had finished our starters. Steak was fatty and mediocre and service was poor. Really disappointing

An excellent meal at Cau, with top quality food let down by awful service. The staff were swapped around during dinner so 5 waiters saw to us, often repeating questions and forgetting orders and this made the whole experience rather poor. It is a shame because we love this restaurant and the food is exemplary. PLEASE sort out the staff!

Such a bad experience at Cau recently. We’ve eaten there many times but wasn’t great at all. We arrived on time and despite asking for a booth table on booking, were told there weren’t any even though there were a good many available. That would have been just about ok if it wasn’t for the way the manager just shrugged her shoulders and was very rude when we enquired about it. On ordering food and drinks we were then informed that they had run out of one of the only two lagers on the menu. The only one that my husband and his friend drink. They don’t drink wine or spirits either so they wouldn’t have been able to have a drink. When we asked about it, the manager again just laughed and joked about it. There was no solution or apology given. In the end we left the restaurant. Not a great evening at all at Cau. Had a fantastic meal at neighbouring restaurant Giggling Squid though!

The food covers expectations. The service is very good and the treatment is almost personalized. The place has an excellent presentation, it is very welcoming. The relation price quality is excellent !!

Excellent Service (thanks Francisco!). Asado de Chorizo and tira de Ancho cooked to perfection, excellent Argentinian wines, what else can I say? You just gained a new customer!!!

Given we booked the table so far in advance, it was disappointing to be put on the table right by the front door but also service was good but not great, eg had to ask for drinks more than once a couple of times before they turned up. Equally, they dealt very well with my allergy and were very helpful on this.

Very nice. Side salad could have been a little more exciting. The set menu rocket salad was just literally a little bit of rocket with hardly any dressing.<br /><br />Steak was well cooked and delicious but they served it on a cold plate so spoilt all the wonderful cooking. My rare steak was cold. Please give nice hot plates if you just pop a steak on it!

Orderes again from CAU via Deliveroo and my chicken was uncooked and RAW. Is CAU aware that uncooked chicken can kill people ? I have houndreads of orders on Deliveroo and only two complains and both were with CAU. Statistically speaking this should mean something...

This was our second visit to a CAU restaurant but the first to this local branch. Having had a fabulous experience first time, we were curious if we would be disappointed this time but our fears were misplaced. Excellent food, service and wines. It&#039;s not cheap but the quality of the meat is superb and they outshine competitors like Gaucho and Buenos Aires.

CAU has a fabulous lunch special that is served up until 6pm. For £12.95 you can choose 2 courses, what a good deal. We were having an early family dinner and 2 of us opted for the 2 course special. I highly recommend the fish...

Disappointed with service which has generally been my experience with CAU Wimbledon but when the food arrives it’s quite good.

The food in Cau was beautifully put together. Everything was really nice. The only problem I did have which was really frustrating, is that there was NOTHING on the starter menu that was gluten free. Absolutely NOTHING! This meant by husband felt REALLY bad to be order a starter but he did eventually after I repeatedly told him its ok as I knew he was starving and I was no where near as hungry as he was. Thank god the main tasted so good as my review would have been the total opposite. They do highlight all the things that are gluten free in the menu. Even though the select is not really big it was big enough for me to order a steak and grilled pumpkins. Both cooked to perfection. <br />We did have to wait a while until we were served so not the quickest initally but no real complains overall.<br />Overall we had a wonderful time as its the company you share the moment with that makes all the difference.

Hmmm. Some good points. Attentive service, and food came out on time. Some of it delicious; the teriyaki pork and empanadas were lovely. The taco, however was devoid of seasoning and very bland. My steak was fine and chips very well cooked. As for ambience, it’s just personal taste, but in an Argentinian restaurant it seemed odd to have 70’s disco tracks.

The service was quite good, but that&#039;s about it unfortunately. I had to send my steak back which came very rare when I&#039;d asked for medium. The thick cut chips were half raw and barely edible. The starters (pork belly bites and battered prawn bites) were really bland, and the peppercorn sauce was very watery. There are far far better steak restaurants in the area, especially for the money. I wouldn&#039;t return.

Terrible service - disappointing food

Good brunch - food was nice and was kid friendly. While the team were friendly, service was a bit rubbish, especially given there were about 10 people working there and about 10 customers. Food came about 5 minutes apart, we weren&#039;t offered any more drinks and it took ages to pay. Was all a bit strange!

The menu has changed and not for the better. It&#039;s lost its sense of identity. Cau has become confused.<br />Service although polite was sporadic. We were left waiting for 10 minutes before our water arrived. However, this has always been the case. Staff have often lacked direction and seem disorganised or more intent on chatting and joking with each other.<br />Twice cooked thick cut chips had the awful taste if being reheated. Sweating.<br />Only good value with 25% off. The burger was nice but there&#039;s no Latin burger and the steak had no flavour and was tasteless. It was a slab of meat not a good quality piece of steak that one came to expect from Cau.

The unlimited prosecco brunch was LIMITED...had to keep asking for a glass of prosecco sat with an empty glass a lot of the time ...I have enjoyed many brunches with unlimited prosecco at different restaurants and at Cau was the worse I have been to , the food was nice but I won’t recommend the brunch to my friends as it was hard work having to get the waiters attention to get a refill

We booked a table for four to celebrate my 10 year old daughter’s birthday. CAU was a recommendation from her friend! We love steak and the choices were good. Good wine for the adults and fruit smoothies for kids. My daughter had her desert complimentary which was lovely.

Really helpful and friendly staff.<br />All the food starters mains and desserts were fantastic. The wine the waiter recommended was tasty too.

Fantastic service, and weekend brunch deal is well worth the money. Very attentive and friendly staff, tasty food and great atmosphere!

High end price for mid market offer. We had steak (as is the focus of the menu and the reason for picking the restaurant) but it was extremely fatty and our medium rare came crispy on the outside and raw in the middle. The marinade was very good though.<br /><br />On the menu, the steaks starting at 220g come with a side. We ordered a 600g steak to share and only one side was included. This example of generosity was further illustrated by the two other sides we ordered where we got one and a half mushrooms and less than a tablespoon of blue cheese sauce. The NHS will be very happy with the quantity of chips in a portion though.<br /><br />We normally expect to spend a reasonable amount when we go out to dinner. This sits at just below our average spend but quite a long way below our expectations.

We booked to have the bottomless brunch package at CAU on a Saturday at 1:30pm. Firstly I love that this is available until 3pm so can be classed as a lunch rather than brunch - the menu also offered a burger so was perfect. We added the Bottomless prosecco for £12.50 per person we definitely got our money’s worth. Not very busy but it should be, great service food and unlimited prosecco, excellent.

Had dinner here on a Friday evening.... it was busy with a buzzing atmosphere and friendly and attentive staff! Ordered steak medium rare as recommended by the chef .... it was tasty and a good size. I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese...

Our table wasn&#039;t ready wen we arrived but this was sorted within a few minutes of our arrival, it was Mothers Day so understandable. The waiter was very attentive and quick to take our drinks order. We then started with empanadas, fish tacos and shrimp, all of which were delicious. For mains I opted for the Sunday roast which was probably not the best choice of the day, the presentation was lovely but the roast beef was quite chewy. The rest of the table ordered steaks and were not disappointed. The restaurant was busy and full of young families on Mothers Day. Overall we had a nice meal albeit on a noisy afternoon.

Food was fabulous and the staff are really attentive. Will be returning soon!
