Catch Seafood, Bar & Grill in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Well cooked food, service better than last time but just OK. Think they need a menu reprint to adjust the price of the whole Lobster down from £75!!!! To somewhere nearer £60. Quite how they can justify the price point (which is higher than Rick Stein) in this venue is beyond me. Beware!!!!!

Being in North Cornwall again we had to make a return visit to this restaurant. It does exactly what it says on the label. Provide superb high-quality fresh fish and seafood in a beautiful setting overlooking the beach and outstanding beauty. We kicked off by trying the oysters which were lovely and then had different starters, one the home-made cream of tomato soup and the other some fresh prawns. Both of us then followed up with the catch of the day fish and chips which was outstanding. If only all fish was battered this way. The service was excellent once again, and we will definitely be returning and would make it a recommendation for anybody else in the area

A lovely spot with great sea views. We had a table with a sea view and right next to the river also. Friendly staff, lovely food, a little more expensive than some places but we expected that for the location. Nice relaxing ambience with some good music being played at the time. Also very friendly manager/ owner ( we think he was! ) with a great sense of humour. Not fast food/ service but worth waiting for and not a problem for us.

We visited as a couple 20th April.. After a positive visit last year we were looking forward to our evening meal.. Upon arrival we were seated on a table what can only be described at the walkway, the tables were crammed far to close together.. no chance to have a private conversation in a busy restaurant when you could reach the salt and pepper from the table next to you. My partner chose the “catch of the day” which was fillet of hake.. when it arrived it was absolutely tiny, 3 mouthfuls at best for £23.. they need a better fisherman, or to rename the restaurant from “catch” to “the one that got away”.. it was at best a good starter.. We complained and switched to fish and chips.. again another disappointment at £20 as it looked like it came from a supermarket packet.. frustratingly opposite was a very good fish a chip takeaway, 1/2 the price double the quality.. Sadly we won’t be back..

We were very disappointed with their new portion sizes and the quality of the food. The catch of the day main course arrived as ‘starter’ portion size - smallest fish that could’ve been gone 3 bites, and no other side dishes apart from chips and green sauce was he fish was placed on. When we asked the manager he said this is the fish size I am afraid and I can change to another dish, I opted for fish and chips (this is what my partner had) and the manager removed the plate and I ended up waiting 15 minutes for the fish and chips while my partner was eating his. It’s a terrible customer service as the manager simply should’ve either taken of £5 or similar from the bill or offer me and extra chips or a side dish instead of removing my main meal immediately with an attitude. He then accepted my fish was very small and added that fish prices gone up very much! We won’t be back!

Set overlooking a quiet(ish) bay, this is a stunning location. The menu is varied and the food we had (linguine and a coconut curry) were amazing. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Never felt rushed or unwelcome. A great find and throughly recommend visiting.

We have been wanting to visit for ages & finally got the opportunity today. We were a walk in reservation & were seated quickly. We soon realised that there was a very unpleasant smell in the restaurant & it was very cold (bourne out by people dining with their coats on). We ordered starters which took almost 30mins to arrive. The Frito Misto was cold, not crispy & the fish over cooked (2 pieces of fish & 6 frozen prawns) & there was a random chip on the plate! My husband ordered the mussels . This came with half a Brioche burger bun & he discovered random linguini in the dish! We fed this back to the server. Our main courses arrived, the chowder was the same sauce as the mussels, just with some other fish in it & the potatoes were only just cooked. The crab linguini was probably the best dish of the four, but could’ve been seasoned much better. The bread served with both our main courses was stale. Love the idea of using oyster shells as condiment dishes, until we saw a server scooping up spilt salt & pepper from the table & putting it back into the shells. Disappointed & wouldn’t recommend.

We came here in October and loved it so thought when I was in Cornwall for my 40th we would visit again. How I wish we didn’t. Booked a table for 6.30 as we had young kids with us so wanted to make sure we were early. Waited 1 hour 40 mins for starters and after asking multiple times kept getting told they were on their way or the staff just walked past us with their heads down. When the starters arrived the sea salt and rosemary focaccia wasn’t available but instead of being told that, was given what seemed like supermarket bought bread. The seafood chowder was like milk and the children’s garlic bread that came 15 mins after everything else was dripping in butter and raw. After waiting ages then for our mains and us then going to tell the staff that if we didn’t get our main by 9 o’clock we would be leaving we then got told the food was on its way. The burger was dry, steak was ordered rare and came like a piece of shoe leather and was more than well done, onion rings were raw and dripping with grease. Kids pasta and kids fish and chips was ok, adult fish and chips was fine but nothing special especially for a fish restaurant, The staff didn’t really seem surprised that there were issues and turned the background music up to disco levels, possibly to drown out the complaints from customers. I left after not eating as wasn’t going to wait for them to cook me another steak as I’d had enough. If they had addressed the issues and apologised then it would have been better but they didn’t, Such a shame as last year was great but I cannot recommend this place at all.

Only called in for coffee as we were passing on a rainy Sunday and wanted a coffee and hot chocolate as a pick me up. Hot drinks were great, really liked the decor and the smells coming out of the kitchen were delicious and we may have stayed for food if they weren't fully booked. However the main reason for the review was the staff, in the short time I was there got a real sense that what makes this place a success is the people running it. Hopefully I remembered the names right but Lyn and Mary keep being your wonderful selves and Chris one day soon with your hard work that garden you long for won't just be a dream.

Popped here for lunch but very disappointing meal with dirty tables surrounding us, seagulls everywhere. Very off putting we had mediocre starters and left. Staff couldn't care less and really shouldn't be front of house

Just popped in for a coffee and a soft drink after a cliff walk. Service okay but was charged £6.00 for a glass of lemonade. I queried it when the bill arrived but I was assured that was right. I looked at their menu online when home and it should have been £3.50. Really disappointed.

Stumbled across this in Mawgan Porth we weren't disappointed. Bright welcoming decor was matched by the staff. We had two dogs with us who were made equally welcome. The food was superb prepared by a clearly talented young chef. We had fish and chips, catch of the day (Hake) a pizza and burger ALL of which were excellent. Highly recommended!

Lovely relaxed atmosphere and great food. The fish and chips were basically the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a LOT. Definitely worth a visit.

We arrived at the restaurant on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was quiet with only two other customers , we ordered our food and 20 minutes later we were told one of our starters were not available we were given the option at this point to have the food free we however declined as we wouldn’t expect anything free, around 10 mins later my oysters arrive. Best in mind at this point it’s been half an hour and my husband hasn’t eaten. We were then told 15 mins later that my husband’s main course wasn’t available so he opted for a pizza, I had the fish and seafood dish. The mains came out both which were inedible. Service was non existent, the oysters were lovely and the food that they actually cooked was diabolical. I hope this was a one off but unfortunately for us we won’t be revisiting

We sat at the bar which is in front of the kitchen. The men working were dedicated and diligent. The scallops were some of the best I’ve had but the shrimp were a bit overcooked. It was served over fettuccine with capers and a buch of other things. I’d order it again. Their seafood is excellent.

Great seafood. Ambiance sitting at the bar is 6 feet from men cooking. Exciting at first. But after 15 minutes it takes away from a conversation or just enjoying the very good seafood. The table area looks depressing with poor decor.

Wine bottles on bar that are used for the pastas are filled up bottles with box cooking wine and it’s obvious (I saw staff filling them in the back). The service is subpar, generally overrated. Tables are really small so you’re very tight aswell

Chico and his staff always offer great food and service. No matter if you enjoy the conversation at the bar while watching the cooks, or sitting inside with a glass of wine, or sitting on the patio enjoying an appetizer while watching the passersby you will enjoy your experience. The food, you can always count on everything being fresh and cooked to perfection. The Catch Seafood Bar and Grill is worth every penny.

I would have given this place at least 4 stars. The food was tasty and having the opportunity to practically see a show in the kitchen was awesome. Unfortunately, my wife and I both got food poisoning after eating dinner here. We ordered the fried calamari, cioppino and snapper. Some of the seafood must have been bad. Bad start to our vacation.

We sat at the bar and watched as our excellent scampi and scallop and snapper Veracruz dishes were prepared in record time to our personal preferences. Catch was a recommendation from another local business owner and we are grateful.

When you walk in the entrance to Catch, you know that you will be welcomed. The space is warm and inviting, from the outdoor tables to the flametop-front bar. Head chef Chico knows that ambience, presentation, and acoustics all affect the way his food tastes. With the symphonic hit of crispy calamari, sizzling blackened snapper, and farm-fresh oysters that landed on our plates, we could tell that every little detail had been put to the test before the dinner performance that evening. For example, take the assembly line of cooks that work the hot grilltop. Each one has to keep their poise and posture as they slash through orders from the very customers that are seated at the bar directly surrounding their prep area. The end result is that the skill, finesse, and intention of these workers all reverberate through space. Each filet arrives at exactly the right time to match with a perfectly al dente mix of spring vegetables and crusty french bread. Every bowl of cioppino is an orchestrated affair of shellfish and seafood in sensuously seasoned broth, wafting with sensual steam from its savory depths upon arrival. Every creme brulee shatters with the delicacy of venetian glass with the touch of a silver spoon. We learned about Chico's restaurant and bar because it was beloved by locals. His followers from Paso have been joined in good company with legions throughout the surrounding regions. Whether you venture from near or far to get there, know that this place is feast for your eyes and ears--as well as a cure for any inner hunger.

The pasta and crab cakes are really good, but the cioppino is too spicy that overwhelmed seafood flavor. Staffs are friendly and the open kitchen feels good

Since we are from San Diego, we have not eaten here for three years. Otherwise we would eat here as much as possible. Like last time, we ordered the grilled rib-eye and the sea bass with scampi sauce to share. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and delicious. Entrees included tasty potatoes & mixed steamed veggie sides. The "scampi" sauce turned out to be a nice little serving of jumbo shrimp scampi placed on top of the perfectly grilled fish. The leftover scampi sauce was killer good and literally got wiped from the plate with everything we could get our hands on. Very generous bone-in Ribeye--seasoned and cooked medium rare--YUM. We shared bites and it was one of the best "surf and turf" meals we've have ever eaten. Again! Amazingly consistent delivery of the goods. Well chosen, local wines at a reasonable price. Excellent creme brulee. Service was flawless. If you are hungry in Paso, this place is a "no brainer". Just returned Nov 6, 2023. STILL GREAT!

We had a fun team dinner at Catch. There was 10 of us. The food was good. Service was good but a bit slow. We started with three different types of oysters and an order of calamari for appetizers. Several seafood pastas were ordered. 2 people had the mahi mahi and several others had seafood specials. The folks that had Mahi Mahi special said it was not great. The person that had lamb said it was excellent! I had the Seafood pasta and it was excellent! Really enjoyed Eberle Syrah throughout dinner. A fun atmosphere and fun dinner. Other than the service being a bit slow it was a success and I would go back!

The absolute best, even more so if you sit at the counter. We're visitors about 6-7 times a year and never miss yhe Catch for dinner. Chico is a master chef, and Marteen and Ramiro keep the place humming. Meals are perfect and over portioned. 10 stars, in my opinion.

Popped in on the off chance for an impromptu lunch. The welcome and friendliness of the team was encouraging and the restaurant spacious yet comfortable. Menu is impressive with many options. Did not get the name of the gentlemen who was assisting us but he was very good; humorous and laid back yet on it with the orders and drinks. Great job. We had the fish finger sandwich and goats cheese and roasted vegetable burger, which were both fantastic. The food was incredibly well made, presented and tasted delicious. Obviously fresh and the fish from local waters. Nice. We agreed we need to come back of an evening to try something on the larger side of the menu. Next time we visit we may even try to book out one of those booths for our family as they look really cool. Little walk on Mawgan Porth beach after and that's a perfect afternoon lunch! Special dinner tonight was Chilean sea bass with shrimp scampi sauce and it was so good. The restaurant was very crowded but very efficient.

The food is super delicious, I try something new every time I go there and it never disappoints. Also it’s very fun to be able to watch the chefs make all the fresh seafood in front of you! Great spot right in down town Paso.

It's always fun and welcoming, everyone is wonderful there, grab a seat at the bar, expect to make new friends and be spoiled by the chefs and the owner who is also one of the chefs!

Every time we pass through Paso Robles we have dinner at Catch. Our dinner was amazing. I had the Ahi with Wasabi and Soy Sauce. It was seared and oh so flavorful. My husband had the halibut with mixed veggies and red potatoes. He is typically not a seafood eater but the garlic shrimp atop the halibut were so tasty along with the halibut. We will be back! Make reservations to sit at the bar. It is amazing to watch the chefs prepare the food and meet Chico Mora, the owner, working behind the counter. Thank you Catch for another great meal!!

The place is great! The food is great! I usually get the fish tacos with clam chowder soup YUMYUM!

Food was good order came out incorrect fixed it quickly ordered something for kids to take back to them and when we got it back there it was not what we ordered. Expensive meal not to get what you ordered!

Extraordinary. We shared a phenomenal calamari steak appetizer. Blackened salmon, sautéed scallops, sauted veggies and seasoned potatoes were all spectacular.Creme Brule for the birthday girl was perfect to share between the three of us. Great service from Estella!

Calamari and the Crab Cakes we're amazing! The company we had.....even better after all theses years! Great fun catching up and the staff were super cool with how long we all talked and laughed together. Thanks!!!!

I had the shrimp and scallop scampi over pasta. It was good and filling - however, towards the end it began to get a bit too salty for my liking. My wife ordered the filet mignon and was not impressed by the portions or the flavor. Overall - it was an okay experience. It wouldn't be my first choice.

Paso Robles, Ca. Is a beautiful town, best known for its wineries and beautiful oak trees on rolling hills. But once you step into downtown you will get an absolutely show of the best dining and bars to select. Today I chose the Catch seafood and bar. It’s an awesome restaurant with the chef and owner doing the hosting. Excellent service, food is fantastic, Delicious!!! I got the cioppino, my god it’s delicious. I highly recommend, you will not regret it! Fresh seafood! + a full bar 🤠

Two and a half years ago I sold my Paso Robles home and moved to the coast. I also owned a high end AirBNB. The Catch was always my "go to" place. I referred all my guests to this outstanding restaurant knowing they would not be disappointed. Fast forward to last Sunday. I returned to the area to visit friends and to enjoy a meal at my favorite place. A lot can happen in a couple years.. but not here. The food was beyond exceptional..... the service was, as always, attentive and knowledgeable. One of my guests was not a seafood lover and ordered a steak. It came out cooked to perfection. If you don't want a certain sauce.. no problem.. Chico, the owner/chef will gladly accommodate your request. If you want beautifully prepared food in a friendly environment you will not be disappointed in this fine eatery.

Clam chowder was premade and average, "ceviche" was the Mexican shrimp cocktail in a glass. Very poor from what little we tried. There are better options in the area.

Excellent food from Chicos kitchen as always. Took my father there for his birthday. The Chippino was to die for and so were the pastas. The exception was the server. The young lady was not hospitable.

Honestly the chefs are the real gems. Sitting at the bar is the best way to do it. Chico, Romero and I didn't get the third guy's name were so nice and friendly. Answered my questions and just formed a real connection. Seafood was great and took their advice on pairing with wine. Loved this place and the vibe and definitely will be back anytime I go to Paso

My husband and I were visiting Paso Robles while on vacation and we had dinner at Catch. I'm from the Midwest, so fresh seafood is a must whenever I am anywhere near a coast and I read the reviews which were stellar. The food was amazing; everything was so fresh and delicious. One of the reasons we chose Catch over other seafood restaurants in the area was because they have Blue Point oysters, which are fabulous and reasonably priced. I especially loved the horseradish on the side. Our server was excellent (I can't remember her name). Per the reviews, we sat at the bar which I highly recommend. If you sit at the bar, you can watch their talented chefs in action. The chefs were so friendly yet focused on their work. The prices were reasonable, too. Lovely dinner and dining experience, thank you, Catch!
