Went for meal with parent's, fantastic, food was lovely, staff friendly, efficient and attentive. Very clean cafe and toilet. Will definitely return. Thankyou!!

5 Star, Great service, tasty food and polite waiting staff was on the busy side when we arrived but had order taken quickly and meal arrived within 5 minutes.

Food quality average. Quite clear that I ordered battered burger and chips and a regular fish. What arrived was a regular fish and a portion.of chips. Server then said she couldn't correct the order as it all had to go out together. So I ordered what was ready ie a large sausage. What arrived was 2 small sausages and chips so I had more chips than anyone could eat. Then I asked if I could put my own salt on the answer was no,bring.it back and we will add salt, almost as if they where afraid I was going to run of within it. Terrible service overall won't go back

The fish was beautiful. Can't knock the fish. The kids dishes were super big portions (for the price they should be though) Charges around £2 mor per meal to sit in which we did The young girls were lovely and smiley until the owner came and spoke to them like they was a pile of rubbish on the floor. The whole mood changed once the owner was there. He should really be ashamed of him self. Chips are a bit weird. 10/10 for the fish. 0/10 for the way the owner treated the staff. Quit girls. There's better jobs out there xoxox

They had the cheek to say we are not allowed to put our own salt and finger on ourselves due to hygiene saftey .. while none of them wore protective clothing and another staff member was seen to be with her fingers in the trays how how dare they say hygiene when the outside tables were left unclean and not fit for use overflowing bins they are clearly only instrested your money ... you also need to realise that salt and vinegar is an acquired taste not to just dump it on and ruin the fish and chips we felt let down by this experience today

Visited this fish shop with family and dog today. Chips were nice but fish was very small and not the best we have had. I would say fish needs to be twice the size and thicker. We won't be eating there again put it that way even the dog o ly ate a little bit of it. So if you haven't been here before then don't bother

Love the fish and chips from this traditional fish and chip restaurant. We had visited before and were impressed with the quality, so visited again when in the area. The cod and chips was very tasty and the fish so white!! Haddock cost £10 each!!

Great little cafe especially when coming of the sea front walk Staff wherever friendly and fish and chip was great and didn’t have to wait long.

The food was ok - the chips are a bit greasy but are pretty standard seaside fare and I was just pleased they were offering food on the bank holiday. Just a word of warning, that if you order the seafood platter with separate chip portions then hardly any are given. I asked for the seafood platter to be transferred to a different box rather than on top of the chips as I was ordering for a range of people. I'd paid for two large portions of chips and a seafood platter. The person than conferred with another woman and then I saw her quickly add a few more items to the seafood platter. I think they realised they were short-changing people and without the chips underneath it was just too obvious. It was still a small seafood platter but now passable. It's doesn't feel when someone tries to fleece you but glad they corrected it in the end.

Absolutely disgraceful, I’m 70 and never ever had worse fish and chips. Cold chips. Loads of burnt crispy ends that must have been cooked at least five times over, the most strange batter, thin, soggy and pale. Fish was wet and slimy. I felt ill just looking at them, tried a little mouthful and put them straight in the bin. Avoid at all costs as they will put you off fish and chips for life. They weren’t cheap either. Served by a girl with huge false nails, followed by a girl who just came in from having a cigarette for outside. I’m so annoyed with myself for not walking away or taking them back. £20 down for a disgraceful takeaway.

Had a latte and a cappuccino here, £2 per cup so couldn’t expect too much but both produced from a small coffee machine and both were tasteless frothy hot water slightly flavoured with something passed off as coffee. Couldn’t be bothered to complain so my own fault but I’d give this one a miss, shocking quality drinks.

Called at Cat Nab tonight after work for a treat tea. The fish was small, tasteless, really wet and hardly any batter. The chips were cold and hard like they had been sat all day. Needless to say hubby's fish and chips went in the bin 🤮

Visited the cafe and shared a seafood platter with my husband. It was delicious and all freshly cooked. Definitely visit again.

Decided to have fish and chips sitting in the cafe. We entered the cafe to be confronted by a notice advising us the wait to be seated....er, in a cafe. Service was pretty quick, but we weren't allowed to sit where we wanted, seemingly on the basis that where we wanted was a four seater and we were only two. Very limited menu, so we had fish and chips. There wasn't much else, but it was after all, a chippy! Both our meals were really good; crisp, not greasy, hot and good portions. They had a young staff, but they were very conscientious and the service was good.

Terrible service, rude rude staff!! I expect a wait at busy times,but when I noticed 5 groups behind were getting served food before me I simply asked as I was number 84 on the ticket I was given and they were serving number 90. Only to get a mouthful of abuse from what I can only describe as a ‘chav’ with a BAD attitude! Food was average. Staff need some lessons in manners wouldn’t waste my money here again! Completely disappointed

Called in for tea the staff were really friendly and the owner was very attentive. The chips were easily the best we’ve ever had my daughter never eats chips and she had extra because they were so nice. I had the fish and it was beautiful and clean. Really delicious meal thoroughly recommended

Absolutely spot on fish and chips. Eat here (sitting outside) a few times and perfect fish and chips every time. Lovely light crispy batter, stunning white flakey fish, golden delicious chips and the mushy peas and curry sauce spot on as well. Easily as good as any fish and chips I have ever had and living only 10 minutes drive away is a real bonus.

Anyone who recommends this greasy spoon as good fish and chips have never eaten good food, rubbish over cooked overpriced everything. This place makes jd wetherspoons fish and chips look and taste great and there's are 🤢

We had the regular fish, a good portion nicely cooked and the batter was pleasant, I.e. not greasy or oily. The portion of chips was extremely generous but they were not hot, but acceptable. Personally, I liked the tartare sauce, lots of dill flavour, I think. Overall, I thought it was fairly priced and the young girl who served us was friendly and never stopped working and yes we would return.

Great spot, great food and great staff. Highly recommended. We went out for a family day to the beach and we sat in there area at tables, it was packed and they managed to get everyone's food out very very quick

Food was absolutely terrible, fish was tiny and tasteless and the chips must have been stood in the hot plate keeping warm for who knows how long! When we complained the guy shrugged his shoulders and proceeded to take payment in full. Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Avoid like the plague.

We have only recently found this place and it was so good the first time we returned the following week to see if it was a ‘one off’. I’m pleased to say it was great the second time too.It’s right on the seafront, on the other side of the road to a large car park (£2 for 2 hours, £6 all day). Lovely ice cream just over the bridge too. Queues were much smaller than the takeaway near the funicular.They also had lots of specials which you don’t see very often.Service was quick and efficient. Although it is about 40+ miles from us we will return much more often.Added to a lovely day out, thank you.

Great service from friendly staff .Yummy cod bites and chips eaten on the sea wall opposite . Our second visit this week . Well worth a visit , and Wilson our Border Collie enjoyed his share .

The staff were incredibly rude. After I ordered, the staff ridiculed my order with each other loudly and clearly audible to me.People who work serving customers should have excellent customer service with a helpful and professional manner. At Cat Nab the staff were unhelpful, unprofessional and as mentioned already extremely rude.

Im unsure of the cap nab has changed hands but what a siprise when on our last two visit to saltburn we chose the cab nab fish bar over our usual one mainly due to the lack of a queue. Previously it was a must miss venue as the food was a bit hit and miss. But me and the mother inlaw both had fish and chips and they were lovely not greasy at all price was appropriate and in comparison to other venues. The staff were very obliging and friendly and very professional adhering to the covid restrictions. So we will be visiting again i might even try the mixed fish and shelfish next time as this is what ive been looking for good local produce. Here along the north east coast we are much more than cod and chips. Squid octopus and various other edible sea creatures. Great stuff.

Had small cod and chips today - best I have tasted in ages. Nice light batter and good thick chips. Excellent value.

Absolutely shocking went in for change for the car park said I had to buy something which did asked for change the staff dilibretley gave a five pound note back shut the till and said you will have to buy something else a disgrace

Me and my partner visited this place today and queued over an hour which is understandable with the current situation with social distancing as we reached the front of the queue an oldish lady shouted “ stand back” which we obeyed not thinking anything of it as we said our order which was “ 2 large fish & chips and a large curry sauce” the lady was very abrupt I honestly thought she was going to say something sarcastic to us I’m not sure where the attitude came from she then said “ can you stand aside” and started serving other people in the queue I was a little confused with this as we watched everyone before us get served they all waited to received there food so why we got told to move a side I thought was a bit rude it was like we had rubbed her up the wrong way automatically and we are just a young couple in our 20’s we had camping chairs in our arms and would never say boo to a goose! When we then got shouted back my partner realised that he had brought the flask and forgot my cup so we thought we would by chance ask if we could have one of the small plastic cups the women said I can give you a small cup we put hot drinks in and we said yes please she then said 50p? We thought that was a bit steep and said would you take 20p and she very abruptly said no 50p so we paid her and continued to wait the person behind us did the same and they got given a lid I mean we paid for ours where was our cup lid??? when we received our food my partner asked please could we have a bag everyone else got there food in a bag and we clearly had our hands full and she ignored us at first until my partner repeated himself! We finally left for the beach the chips were loverly the fish was a bit strange exactly like the other reviews on here it was small and square!! And the curry sauce was green! I’m not sure why, I would not give this place a chance at all!! Go to the other fish and chip shop on the sea front close to the pier there food looked amazing! Even thought they always a longer queue it’s worth it! This place is NOT worth your money!! And the reviews don’t lie! This old women has an attitude problem!

Fish was wonderful. White and fluffy. Excellent value and will definitely come again. Homemade chips were great too.

We had a drive out to Saltburn in these crazy times. A small queue at hatch all Social distancing. Freshly cooked, it was very nice. Fish white and fresh beautifully cooked.

Short waiting time for food to be cooked freshly. Chips and Fish were perfect, had to try the battered burger my son got and it was delicious. will visit again.

Excellent fish and chips ,well worth the 5o mile trip. That Oliver or that Ramsey chap couldn`t cook do it as nice.

Very nice, called yesterday for a bite of lunch. Lovely young lady serving at the hatch. The food was cooked fresh and was delicious. Definitely eat here again, plus the service was 10000% better than the posh place the other side of the bridge.

Turned up for food nice cheap as eating me and pal both had pies chips ect both fork snapped as went eat pies they were like cement ...solid...and staff did not seem very happy even to serve us dirty looks....both us bad now cup tea was ok

If I could give no stars I would! My daughter and her friends tried to eat here today, they were sent out despite plenty of seating available and told to order at the window, which they did and received appalling service there as well, even having the server throw a lolly at one of the girls hitting her! How disgraceful, you should be ashamed of yourselves treating young girls that way!

Beware the card machine. They got it a couple of weeks ago, the signal is poor so it takes a while to process (which is fine) but when it did, they said it hadn’t so I had to pay again and have actually been charged twice- £62- no way of getting in touch with them, none of their numbers work - really frustrating!

Bought the large haddock & chips, chips, peas a slice of bread and gravy. £20 .... And it wasn't haddock ... And it wasnt large. The waitress didn't give a hoot. Not pleasant! Such a shame for a seaside chippy

Having visited the Cat Nab many times after walking the dogs on the beach, I can say the fish and chips are very good. Less pretentious that some of the the 'award winning' competitors near the promenade and much smaller queues for the same end product - no distinguishable difference from my perspective! Staff friendly and based on my experience, surprised by some of the poor reviews.

We visited the cafe we had two children 2 year old and a 7 month old baby, NOT child friendly we had to feed the baby cold food as they would not warm the food. one of the staff was very nice another member made us feel uncomfortable, charging restaurant prices but serving cafe food

We arrived in half term on a bitterly cold day and immediately went to have lunch here with our grandchildren .It was packed ,but never the less we were cheerfully greeted when we came through the door .A table was cleared at once and ordered taken promptly.Our meal was delicious and service excellent.This lovey place is situated next to the main car park and toilets .You are immediately on the sea front and a short walk takes you onto the magnificent pier and cliff rail car .

We went had sausage and chips on Saturday the chips where hard and not cooked the sausages did not have much batter on them it’s very poor indeed

STAY AWAY this place will NOT cater for dietary needs. We wanted to order 3 meals for ourselves and as they don't cater for gluten intolerant folk we asked permission for my brother to bring his own food into the restaurant to eat and got told in no uncertain terms NO. I really hope the so called owner of this establishments family has to rely on certain foods to live then maybe she will understand how difficult it is but I doubt it as she really was very very nasty

I have no idea how long ago the previous reviews were written but it was quite difficult in Marske to find dog-friendly eateries, this was one of the rare ones.

When we arrived at this place we asked staff if they catered for gluten intolerance the staff checked the chicken fillets but unfortunately they were coated.

After waiting a long time for food when nobody was actually there, the food from this establishment was absolutely garbage. Actually asked for my money back as it was embarrassing for what a I was served. More fish on a fish finger and handful of chips for a massive price. I advise people to stay away.

Came in today with my son we got two chips n gravy and a Pepsi.. My bowl was small and my sons was a normal size.. You got a tiny bit of gravy in a pot...maybe 4 teaspoons full. The chips where pale and hard. Went to pay and it came to 11 pound... A total rip off. I actually thought she was joking when she said the amount. So it was 3pound for a scabby bowl of chips.. 1.50 for a drip of gravy.. Don't mind paying 2pound for the Coke.. The other people with us couldn't believe the price of their stuff.. 7.50 for a small fish n chips.. Two bits of fish nugget and a scattering of scabby chips. Will never return here.. Our eyes have been ripped right out. Didn't look at the menu for prices as I would never of though it would be that much. Table was filthy aswell.

Went to saltburn and was going to go into resturant for fish and chios thete was 8 of us. The baby we had with us who was 4 week old needed feeding so we thought we would sit outside feed him and then could enjoy meal. They did takeout so i asked to buy a cup of hot water to warm tbe bottle they refused to let me buy one. So we went elsewear how tight

Been searching for a while for the perfect fish and chip outlet. Found it today in a little place called Saltburn by the Sea, called Cat Nab fish bar. The staff are friendly and give excellent customer service, what was nice was that they seemed 'Happy' to serve you. Half the time some people cannot manage a smile. The menu , though not extensive had lots to choose from. We chose the scampi with chips and mushy peas. My husband said he had died and gone to heaven, the scampi was juicy and tasty and with the home made tartare sauce even better. The prices are reasonable as the portions are definitely not small. This is a one we will certainly recommend and be going back to.

Quite disappointed with the fish and chips from here, chips were all soft and very brown, think they had been standing about for a long time, batter was all soggy on the fish and staff were handling money chatting/swearing to their mates, we had kids and I had to ask her to watch her mouth! Also having a cigarette outside then back in without washing hands and straight onto serving. Quite poor really. Such a shame as we’ve been using for years. Time to try another take away fish & chip shop I think. Very poor management to have such poor hygiene methods and staff that they’ll pay peanuts which is they are not bothered.

Went twice last week,Sunday then Thursday,sat inside the cafe on Sunday and had the seniors meal,fish and chips tea bread and butter around £7.50. All 4 of us really enjoyed it.fish was fresh and lightly battered ,chips were how I liked them but everyone's taste is different with how you cook them.thurs we had them outside as a take away as we had the dog with us,just the same quality.we also went to the popular one near the pier and they wasn't as good.so would realy recommend the Cat nab,( though it is a funny name)

I was visiting and went for a long walk and wanted F&C; watching the sea. I had previously chosen the sea view restaurant and it was awful (see previous review). this place I have to admit does not look very inviting from the outside and needs a bit of an update but thought I would give it a go.

Fantastic food and fantastic service, lovely staff and such a pleasant atmosphere. Affordable and delicious, will be returning and will recommend to friends and family! Fab!

Delicious fish and chips, no complaints. Not the best decor, very basic but it is what it is. Very friendly staff . Had the regular cod and chips and a lovely cup of Yorkshire tea. Well cooked and generous portions.

Grabbed some takeaway fish and chips from here and a battered sausage and chips on mother's day, as the other chip shop on the seafront was packed out. The service from the girl at the takeaway counter was dreadful, she wasn't paying attention, almost seemed like she was drunk or high, and didn't have any manners. I ordered a portion of curry sauce and gravy to go with my food and got given mushy peas instead of gravy. The battered sausage had hardly no batter on it and was burnt. The fish was dry and the batter was burnt. The chips tasted like they'd been also burnt and left to sit in the chip dump for hours. The only good side to all this was the girl who served me was paying such little attention that she gave me too much change, so overall I only paid a couple of quid for what i had, however I would have preferred to pay nothing.

I don't know if it was just an off day but this was the worst tasting fish and chips i've ever had anywhere in my life. Spoiled an otherwise nice day out. Foisty chips.

The thing I like best about this place is the mushy peas, because they are home made and not from a tin, nice place to sit in take a rest and have a good meal

Quite happy to queue patiently for 45 minutes with the taste of fish and chips waiting. But when we eventually got to the counter, we were told they’d run out of fish!! I appreciate that happens but when we asked why they didn’t count up and tell people further back that they were running out I was just met with a gormless ‘what can we do?’ response. Just off to queue somewhere else. Wish me luck!

We love the food but often when we come we find you are closed, which is really disappointing when you have travelled especially. Why were you closed yesterday, Monday 24 September, surely it is not winter yet. We came around Easter time and found yet again closed.

Really did not like those fish n chips. we were given Cod n Chips, not asked. chips were foul fish was poor

A beautiful day we were all hot. I went in to ask for a glass of tap water. I was refused with and without my own container. I can live with that. However beware a small in statue, large in girth old lady who was apparently the spokes person for all 6 odd staff standing around at the end of the day nattering. Her manner went from just could not be bothered , to dismissive, rude and darn right horrible . Beware !!

Snobby old woman asked for tap water and kicked up a stink got told no and then got snotty with staff (they sell bottled water so just buy it) best part of my day, please visit saltburn more often to get your privilege checked regularly

Decided I'd like to go back to somewhere my late wife and I'd had been together before, so I choose Salt-Burn-by-the-Sea it was getting on for lunch time so I decided to try Cat Nabs fish and chips and boy I was not disappointed the fish (cod) was lovely and batter was crispy and tasty, the chips were exactly as I like them crisp on the outside and lovely and fluffy on the inside, I also had mushy peas they were Gorgeous, I also had there home made Tartar sauce it was gorgeous as well and the old bread and butter and a pot of tea (tea a little weak but I carry an extra tea bag just incase) so all in all a Fabulous lunch and the staff were all friendly, curtious and helpful. A great day out and a fabulous lunch.

Place is very clean and the cafe looked very clean and tidy! We had takeaway rather than eat in as no dogs allowed! Chips were lovely and crisp and sausage was nice too. Didnt have fish but they also looked nice. There are a few tables to sit at outside of the shop front. Service was also good. Preferred it to the other chip shops further along the promenade. Also reasonably priced. As with all of them in this area only take cash payments! Can sit in the park opposite to eat them. Id certainly use them again!

first .being a retired couple we don't like to complain ..the cat nab chippy at saltburn ..omg the staff us and I mean us..the fish chips for myself and wife and 2 g children .very good ..now oliver my g child wanted the toilet I asked the lad were was the toilets .he informed me use the toilets across the road .I said we went there half an hour ago .could not use the toilets as thay were very smelly and crap all over the seats .I informed him of this still no good we could not use the chippy toilets .after spending 25 pounds on f chips and drinks ..note can u believe this in this day age..shame on the staff .I will never eat at the cat nab chippy again ..I did report this to the local council....ie matter in hand .

We came here for fish and chips 01.08.18 between 1pm and 2pm and it was lovely. Served by a lady on the counter who was great, very polite and chatty. (Small, brown/reddish hair) We will be back as we thoroughly enjoyed.

Maybe we visited on a bad day. The staff looked extremely fed up and miserable.and it was as though it was a nuisance to serve us. £1.70p I felt was fairly expensive for a portion of insipid looking chips which primarily tasted of fat (oil?). I had to ask if there was any tomato sauce as no sauces were on show. I was told they were at 30p extra. £1.60 for a tea bag and water in a plastic cup only 3 quarters full, again I thought was expensive. If you want to eat inside it costs more! No wonder there were only a handful of people eating at this place whereas other establishments along the prom were heaving. Says it all really. Service with a smile costs nothing and goes a long way! We won't be going back.

We visited the cat nab yesterday myself, partner and 2 children. We looked at the prices outside first which seemed pretty reasonable but decided to go inside to get the kids out the blazing sun for a little bit ( MISTAKE) the prices inside are SHOCKING! Because of this we were going to order a meal each but the kids wouldn’t eat much anyways so instead of throwing money away on extortionate chips we ordered one fish and chips, and a portion of chips between us all. The lady who served us seemed a bit miffed that was all we ordered asking us several times if that was all. YES IT IS. Thanks! .. food came reasonably quick, the small cod was the size of a child’s portion whereas the likes of Tynemouth the small fish is enough to feed 3 people! The chips were so anaemic looking they were practically glowing! They tasted alright though and all was edible. The worst part about it was the 4 waitresses who stood at the restaurant side resting over the table just staring towards us watching us eat! SO UNCOMFORTABLE!! I had to sit slightly turned to the side to avoid being watched! Would not recommend!

Ordered haddock and chips, very fresh fish and the chips were lovely. Had a good choice on the menu with several specials.

A reasonable range of fish, patties, fish cakes, sausages and the like, all well cooked. Reasonably priced and without the excessive queues that form at the outlets near the pier.

Stopped off on a ride home on Sunday, we weren't disappointed the fish and chips were stunning one of the best cooked pieces of fish I've had. The young lass that served us was lovely but it seemed only her and the lady frying were working the rest were huddled round a phone watching football (bit unprofessional) and one lass was helping herself to the chips I hope she'd washed her hands. Will definitely recommend them to anyone going to Saltburn

Fish and chips were nice. Good location and parking which you have to pay for seconds away. Looked clean enough. The staff were very friendly albeit a little casual but i like that. Some would think a bit too unprofessional. Not cheap but it was nice all the same. I would use it again if i stopped there.

Visited the takeaway after a 10 mile coastal walk . Fabulous cod and chips the best we’ve ever tasted lovely crisp batter and tasty chips large portions too. Very quick friendly service we didn’t have to wait even though it was the bank holiday. We would highly recommend !

We visited the Cat Nab fish bar (takeaway) spontaneously for lunch which we ate on a bench near the beach (the best way) before heading back to our cottage after a long walk. The chips were nice and I had fish bites rather than a whole fish. The curry sauce was quite spicy but nice.

Called in yesterday ordered cod and chips, sole and peas no chips but was charged for the chips, king prawn with chips not A very long wait was cooked fresh we got the meals and the chips was not very warm the rest was very nice.We ordered coffee after meals and asked to pay was told it was £40 no receipt did not question it when we got home worked it out we was charged about £7 to much. They also work on a cash only basis. We pass regularly but will not be going back.

My mum is very fussy about her fish and chips-!here it was delicious white and fresh ( and they happily poached mine) very fast friendly service - good value , nice clean place with parking over the road - we will be back !

popped in here after a nice walk on the beach , staff were friendly, fish & chips were nice enough the fish was a bit bland but chips & sauces lovely. bit on the pricey side but perhaps due to location. would not object to going back but think we will try another place next time we visit.

Just had lunch with my friend and 4 children between us, 2 aged below 5, we ordered cod and chips x 2, (13.50 each) plus drinks for everyone, and shared the 2 meals, could have spent less had we just bought for the kids. We got really unkind words off the old lady because we didn't order 6 meals and were told we wouldn't have been put on this table we were placed on had she known. Thought you could just call in for a coffee!!!! obviously that's not spending enough money, she tried to take our plates before we had finished our meals even though cafe was practically empty. We spent £36 on lunch, l will never return or give this woman any further business how rude, ungrateful, and miserable - not happy customers think the business would profit if she left!!!

Eaten here quite a few times now & as always great service & huge portions. The kids meals are fantastic value especially the fish bites & battered sausages. The lady who owns it is so good with kids & makes them all welcome. They get more attention than me! My disabled grandson when we take him is always made welcome & they go out of their way to help him. As for our food & cuppa tea - excellent. Freshly cooked mouthwatering piece of fish & huge portion of non-greasy chips. Waitresses go out of their way to help you or offered you whatever. Our experience is always the same, very good with friendly service with beautifully cooked F&C.; We'll be back February half-term.

My wife an I like the Catnab. It's unpretentious. It's a sit-down fish and chip shop that serves very good food in a friendly and relaxed environment. The F&C; are excellent and there is also a decent range of puds. There are also other, more adventurous fish dishes to try such as salt and pepper squid, if that's your thing.

I have never written a review before in my life but we were sooo disappointed with this 'cafe' I just had to. There was dirty tables left everywhere! There was a pile of rubbish beside our table, swept in a pile and left! The pensioners...

Fish and chips and tea - all freshly cooked and served timely. The medium cod suited me (fully) as did the small cod for my wife. The place is bright and kept clean as tables become vacant. There are bench seats as well as cafe chairs & tables. There is no toilet - use the public one over the road if you dare (male section was gross).

Chips to take away are supposed to be quick however the staff here clearly don't understand the concept. Most of the staff were stood around chatting and didn't give any timescale as to when out order would be ready. When our chips finally arrived there was a deep fried fly on one of the chips. When I told the staff, they didn't understand what to do and took the chips away, removed the chip and fly and gave me the rest of the chips back. Not impressed

A really cracking selection of fish shop delights....evidenced by the queue. Reasonably priced too! We did the take away, but the eatery looked pleasant as well.

We visited with our young grandson, arriving mid afternoon so there were plenty of free tables. The young lady who served us was very friendly and our food and drinks arrived promptly. The pensioner's fish and chips was a good sized portion while the regular was very generous. Both included bread and butter and tea/coffee. Our young grandson thoroughly enjoyed the fish bites and chips. We'd definitely return.

Been here a couple of times now and the staff are always really friendly, the service is quick and the food is great. I've been to other places in Saltburn that were nowhere near as good.

I fancied. this today when the town was busy with tourists and temperature was high.. Living in Saltburn gives me lots of choice for eating out. I go to CatNab cos the foods good -simple. Todays choice was lemon sole with chips and B&B. Fish was superb and with best chips in town, a slice of lemon and pot of tartar sauce. I didn't have tea but asked for cola. It was delivered in an unopened bottle with an inverted glass - not the best approach.Todays special included breaded butterfly prawns and 2 interesting squid dishes. The café is clean and bright. Today wasn't busy when I visited so staff hung around the counter chatting and it wasn't easy to catch their eye. I still like the place -the food is excellent.

We visit Saltburn throughout the year and usually go for fish and chips. As we prefer to eat inside we have visited this restaurant fairly often as the food is okay and we can usually get a seat. We left it a bit later today, 2.15p.m. so as the restaurant would be a bit quieter. As we walked in we were greeted by a very pleasant young lady who asked if we would like a table for two. I had noticed that there was an empty booth and the customers in another booth were just getting ready to leave so I asked her could we please have a booth as it was a bit quieter. She hesitated and turned to the woman at the counter and said to her would we be able to have a booth and even though I was stood right next to the the young girl she completely ignored me and just said to the girl "No, I don't think so". We have sat on one of the tables for two before - they are squashed very close to one another down the middle of the room and are quite small so you can barely fit your food and drink on them. If there had been a bigger party come in there was a table big enough for eight and another booth available. The last time we visited at a similar time there were only two tables in use and after asking we were grudgingly allowed to sit in a booth. The young girl apologised but the woman just looked stony faced so I said to the young girl it doesn't matter and to the woman "You obviously don't need the custom" and we left never to return again. We then went to the Seaview Cafe where the staff couldn't have been lovelier and the food much was much nicer. Note to the Cat Nab Cafe - you are a service industry and customer service should be paramount, the only person that can be rude to customers and get away with it is Gordon Ramsay!
