Sat nav takes you down a cart track , so use map, beer garden just grass and benches nothing special , tatty unusable swing in a corner, views none except a duck pond, Beer expensive compared to area , think sometime ago was good but just fair now , not worth a journey to there.

You are highly unlikely to just drive past the Cat (you're more likely to be walking) but if you are, you must call in. We've not eaten for a while, but call in for a pint of Landlord and are never disappointed. Room to park, and lots of room to sit outside, a good selection of drinks and very friendly staff, make the Cat a must visit.

Positives: Bar staff were friendly, location and views are lovely, big beer garden. Negatives: had run out of the drink I wanted, don't serve food, and I got heckled on my way in by customers sat outside & noticed the same thing happening to multiple women. The 'play area' was a swing set with no swings and none of the outside benches have shade or a working umbrella. Weird smell.

We have just had lunch at the 'Catty' and unfortunalty the food wasn't good at all, it was not what was described in the menu, and was a poor example of pub food, with it also taking 1 hour to arrive at the table with us being the only dinners in the pub at the time, for 5 simple lunches.

(Nov 2022) New to the area but feeling more of a local; we love popping in to the ‘Catty’ on our round trip walks around the area. Today, we stopped by for lunch having seen the kitchen renovated (delayed) during COVID and keen to find a pub we love - serve some food which I think started again in August 2022 after a challenging period to update the kitchen and hire staff. We stopped for Sunday lunch (1pm) today with my 11 year old. Was a little disappointed by the language used by some who were sitting by the bar - F’ing and blinding. I would have hoped the bar staff may have asked them to speak a little quietly, but nothing. They clearly knew them as they were having a good chat. Thankfully the pub filled up with lunch goers and luckily it drowned out the language. I swear too, but it was literally every sentence. I’d hate to run a business where customers popped in and ruined the atmosphere for others. Other than that, we were first to order as there was no one else eating. Steak and ale pie, Cajun cauliflower and chicken burger and chips. The food took a good while to arrive. It was nice, but not amazing. The steak and ale / vegetables were soggy and had no life left in them. The burger was well stacked / presented. Chips were good but too big; prefer fries. The cauliflower Cajun was lovely and a great menu idea. N.b. There was NO lemon in stock for the Gin and Tonic. 😱 Service was friendly and polite. Lovely atmosphere (other than the swearing). Was unable to setup a tab meant it was pay as you go for every order, so that meant paying three times at the bar for x2 rounds of drinks and the food. It doesn’t instil any trust. Some possible fixes: 1. Menu on display 2. Cutlery and sauces on all tables 3. Lots of napkins 4. Set up table numbers and tabs; leave cards behind the bar. 5. Buy lots of lemons 6. Turn the music up to drown out the swearing 7. Put the fire on dining area 8. Mark out the paint again in the car park to help people park a little better. 9. Fill the dog bowls with water; have a dog biscuit jar I’ve swapped my 5 stars to 4 stars for now and will come back and try the food / service again. It’s a fab spot, but getting some of the smaller details right would make it a great place for all visitors. (Aug 2021) I love this pub! Such lovely decor and memorabilia. Sometimes the landlord is at the bar and is very chatty about the area, history and pub plans. You’re likely to see some hikers, local farmers in their wellies, locals with their dogs etc.

A lovely traditional pub steeped in local history that for the last few years has suffered from a revolving door of short lived landlords without a clue. What a refreshing change then to see that the Hinch' has finally got new landlords (Oct2024) who clearly know how to run a pub. Within a short period of time they have successfully managed to breathe new life into what had become a tired and soulless place to eat and drink. On the two occasions we've been since the Hinch reopened we've been super impressed with the food. In fact the cheese and onion pie might well be the best pie l've tasted in the Calder Valley (or ever!) and the flavourful and plentiful Sunday Roast offering was a cut above your usual pub ‘roast’ offering. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the food if you’re looking for somewhere to eat - especially when it comes without the hassle of parking in Hebden Bridge. On each occasion we’ve been, the Hinch was busy with drinkers and diners which is great to see. The trade off is you've only got the choice of Manchester owners JW Lees’ own branded mystery beer offerings. Forget the craft-ale revolution, or the fact that Vocation brewery is literally 5 mins away, the solitary guest beer offering here is San Miguel. I guess you can't have everything, but at least the food and atmosphere more than makes up for it!
