Cooper Kitchen & Bar in Calderdale

We made a booking here for a Saturday evening at 6pm in the restaurant for 6 of us when we arrived one of the bar staff informed us another staff member had “forgotten to make note of the booking and they couldn’t fit us in” we were then offered a table for 4 people in the bar so we left. Poor customer service.

Great, clean, cosy spot on the centre of town. Enjoyed it.

We went on a Wednesday evening with friends on Wednesday. Two of us had the Tapas offers and our friends had a spicy curry sharing plate. The food was brilliant and the service was attentive. The bill came to £71 for all four including drinks. We left £80. Superb value at £20 per head. Tremendous!

Yesterday we had just done a memorial walk for a fellow rambler who passed away ladt year. The family suggested this bar and there was quite a few of us at about 2.00 pm. I drink Guinness and my friend asked the lady behind the bar to tilt the glass at 45 degrees at which point she started arguing with my friend saying it doesn't matter how its poured as its something to do with the gas which in all honesty is totally incorrect. I have been to the Guinness Brewery twice and have been a barmaid over 30 years and 99% of the time it is all I drink. The Guinness Brewery themselves would say this is incorrect also. Maybe some additional training is needed. She was very surly and unwelcoming the whole time we were there and the third pint was definitely not poured properly. Hopefully you have cameras. Whilst the customer is not always right on this occasion we were. To be honest we would not visit again due to this experience.

Went on Sunday for a family birthday meal. The place is really nicely done out inside but the food was hit and miss. The Sunday lunch had amazing Yorkshire puddings and veg but the beef and lamb were terrible. The lamb tasted funny and the beef was so tough it couldn’t be eaten. I had to ask for them to swap my beef, which unfortunately saw them take my whole meal away and return 5 minutes later with just a side plate of some beef. I had to wait another 5 minutes for the rest of my meal to return and unfortunately the beef was still extremely tough and inedible. It was like the wrong cut of beef had been roasted, leaving a tough leather like texture and a very strange taste. I’m afraid we wouldn’t go back.

The three meat dinner was still available but that, it seems, is a mystery choice - turned out to be two slices of pork. A couple of the party had the 'chicken supreme' Sunday lunch. I'm imagining either the menu writer or the chef has a good sense of humour- it was neither a chicken supreme (breast on the bone) or supreme in its eating- it was a chicken breast that was badly over cooked, dry and tough to eat - plenty was sent back to the comedian in the kitchen. Some elements were really good, the veg was lovely and the potatoes really well cooked but at nearly 20 quid for a Sunday dinner it was well short of the mark. The Yorkshire puddings looked good but were clearly pre-cooked and served cold. Desserts added another £7 or £8 per person, guess what? More things sold out, the person who had to make a second choice missed out on a dry and virtually jamless jam roly poly (remember the kitchen joker?). I'd felt let down by the choice of drinks (several beers were off) but I'd have settled for keeping my glass full. We were having to chase for refills and the attention to detail was lacking. Final act for the kitchen entertainers - I think they'd also run out of boiling water - at least I assume so, what other reason would there be for a half full tea pot? Not to be recommended on a Sunday (other guests tell me it's better Saturday - not sure I'm up for giving them a 2nd chance).

Absolutely lovely food for a reasonable price, highly recommend!

Our first first Friday whilst visiting our daughter who lives in Elland from Staffordshire and definitely won’t be the last This was a last minute reservation which exceeded our expectations. The hospitality from waiting on staff was spot on, very welcoming and attentive, The food was amazing, I have eaten at many tapas places in England and Spain and this was by far on par. The venue itself is also great, with a modern, quirky, nostalgic feel. Well done Cooper Kitchen, We need you in Staffordshire. I will be spreading the word.

Had my mums 70th here last Saturday. The top floor was ideal for all the family. Great venue for food. Staff were amazing and smiling all of the time. Would recommend a visit. But, it would be good if calls were answered and messages responded to in a timely manner. It takes 2 to 3 days for a response to calls or WhatsApp messages. Staff said WhatsApp was fine to message. I called and messaged again in regards to another small function I would like to have. Still waiting for a call back / response 2 days later :)

Brilliant little restaurant. The decor is clean and modern. Service was very friendly and efficient but not rushed. Food was absolutely gorgeous and very reasonably dressed priced. Highly recommend the roast beef dinner!! Will definitely return.

Visited Coopers over December,had a classic coopers burger, really tasty. I enjoyed the ambience and pleasant surroundings the staff were great, especially the pleasant blonde girl I think she was called Poppy. It’s nice to sit down and enjoy your meal without feeling your being rushed. Would definitely come here again

we had been looking forward to eating here we were not sure of the tapas so we went for a safe option pizza we have had pizza all over the world & this was the worst by a LONG SHOT we could not eat the base it would not cut with the wheel they gave us we ate the topping which was not that nice & left the base afraid we will not return

Ended up here on a Saturday afternoon, great venue, good craft beer selection. Decided to eat and my word, the food was fantastic, had the beef blade, belly pork, glazed salmon, tenderstem broccoli, and padron peppers. The food was so good, tenderstem a bit too al dente for me but other than that, wow. Service was a bit lacklustre, would have liked another drink but didn't see anyone again after food arrived until we requested the bill. Had another drink in the bar afterwards, and for an afternoon, it was busy and had a good buzz. This really is a gem in Elland and well worth a visit, do have something to eat though or you'll miss a treat.

The food was amazing and the service was great as well. The manager Josh was great and helped a friend and I with directions and gave us recommendation's for other places to go around Halifax. 10/10 would recommend.

I had a lovely lunch here. The food was fantastic – the salmon was delightful, cooked perfectly and delicious. The Buttermilk Chicken Burger was also great, with tender meat and perfect fries. The pub had a nice, cozy but sophisticated feel, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely be back for more – highly recommend this place!

We celebrated our Christmas party at Coopers at the weekend. All the staff were friendly & welcoming and food was incredible. Highly recommended lots on the menu to choose including gluten free and vegetarian options to suit all.

one waitress who was frankly rude and dismissive not a nice experience we got out quick after 1 drink- this is the first time i have ever put a bad review on line.

Just been for a lunchtime tapas at Coopers. Just brilliant. Venue is really well appointed with nostalgic decor , the menu is tempting with some delicious choices. Even the beer is great too. We had a wonderful afternoon with friends.

Went with a large party so pre - ordered food but fabulous communication while ordering and the food was WOW! We were staying in the area for a hen do but would 100% return just to come for the food! Great atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. Couldn't fault it!

Food was excellent. We had the Tapas selection. Lamb and then belly pork , prawns and Camembert. Amazing portion sizes , beautifully presented. Sides of garlic flatbread and Skinny fries. Followed by espresso martinis . All went down a treat. Service was great too with a lovely friendly waitress

Best pizza's ive had in a long time...the bufferlo chicken one was amazing.

The barman was very friendly, bringing drinks to our table and chatting with us.

What an amazing afternoon at Cooper Kitchen & Bar. 💥 17 girls 🩷 for a suprise baby shower & it could not have been more perfect! The communication & organisation from Kadee & the staff was second to none from day 1 🙌 Nothing was too much trouble! The venue was amazing for our gathering, we had the privacy of the top floor, leading out onto the terrace 😎 Instead of afternoon tea or finger buffet (which was on offer) we all chose directly from the menu - 17 individual dishes, all cooked to order & my oh my!!! It's was DELICIOUS 😋 Sunday Roasts Pizzas Ciabattas Burgers We tried them all & every plate emptied! Puddings (to die for) & coffees followed for some as the prosecco continued for others 🥂 The atmosphere was fabulous & the staff so helpful & attentive 🫶 Thank you so much - we'll be back! ❤️🩷🧡💛💚💙🩵💜🤎

Gorgeous roof top terrace, friendly staff and decorated really trendy

Recently moved into the area and first time properly going around Elland and was highly recommended to try this place out… I had a shandy and my partner a tight rope… the drinks were fresh can tell they are cleaned properly and the food was to die for! Will definitely come back again :-)

Visited for the first time last Sat evening and loved it. My wife and I tried 5 items from the Tapas menu and they were all delicious, the Belly Pork was our favourite! The desserts were also fab with very generous portion sizes. Ignore prev post about poor service, our waitress was lovely and even went so far as to go down to the bar (we were seated on 2nd floor) to copy the cocktail menu from the board onto her notepad for me to choose from just so I didn’t have to get up. Will be back.

An excellent Sunday lunch, we thought. There was plenty of it and it was cooked perfectly. My roast beef was tasty and very tender and the gravy was to die for.

WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND The star of the show, of course, is the food. We tried a variety of tapas, and each dish had lots to talk about.The Duck and the steak were particular standouts. The portions were perfect for sharing, allowing us to sample a wide range of dishes without feeling overwhelmed. Coopers Tapas is a fantastic choice for a casual night or a different style of dining in Elland. The delicious food and friendly service make it a true gem(something that Elland has needed since the days of La Cachette). I highly recommend getting down there especially on weekends and for the Tapas deals midweek. All dishes visually were very appealing and the timing of each dishes' arrival had been very well thought out. Class act chef. Overall, Coopers Tapas is a hidden gem that prioritises delicious food over fancy decor. The friendly service and amazing deals make it great value for money. Don't be discouraged by the location, step inside and embark on a flavorful journey through a variety of cuisines!

I’m really sorry to give a poor review because it is local to me. However, I had a walk with friends yesterday and they fancied lunch at Brosters. I pushed and recommended Coopers because I have had a lovely lunch there previously. Anyway, there was no light lunch selection on the menu. We would have liked hot or cold sandwiches as had been on the menu in the past. We all ended up having the same meal because it was the smallest we could see on the menu. Unfortunately it wasn’t nice at all. Far too salty and none of us enjoyed it at all. I was so looking forward to bringing my friends there because I thought the food would be good. It definitely wasn’t. I wish we had gone on to Ashby’s instead. Next time.!!!

Brilliant bar with a great selection of beer and a superb home cooked food menu. This is a really great bar that Elland is lucky to have. The staff are amazing too.

It's a nice place to sit. At first it seemed like no one was there, but there were two floors above. The top one was a roof terrace.

The service was poor . It took 45 mins for the tapas to arrive after ordering . Food was ok - nice flavours but the evening was spoiled by the poor service and lack of attention from the wait staff . Ordered more tapas after the first dishes and had to wait another 15 mins before we were served and another 15 mins before any tapas appeared , Asked for drinks and had to wait 15 mins and ask again before wine appeared . Wouldn’t be too bothered but it wasn’t busy . Food was ok but the whole evening was massively impacted by the lack of customer service .

Thought we'd try coopers as it came recommended. Unfortunately won't be in a hurry to return. The male on the bar downstairs was brilliant, chatty and on the ball. Unfortunately this wasn't the case when we went upstairs for food. Although most of the dishes were really nice we were waiting over 40 min to be served. Rather than tapas coming when it was ready it was brought in bulk, very strange. I think the main issue was the service and Unfortunately either the waitress was having a bad day or was just against good customer service. No one seemed to be in charge, wine was brought when reminded. Was a very strange experience.

Been a couple of times now and the food is delicious and good menu and value for money, great service and all staff are very friendly. Good location few minutes walk from car park just down the road which is free in the evening .

The staff are all friendly and welcoming and the bar is clean and beautifully presented. I would highly recommend. Elland needs more bars like this! But the bar is set very high. Wow!! Cooper Kitchen you are a little gem!! As veggies, sometimes you’re limited on choose, not here, superb selection from the Tapas menu! Superb portions! Superb flavours! Superb service! They even accommodated for our 8 year who enjoys meat, they went out of their way to make her a bacon sandwich! Yup, not even on the menu, so when you have a fussy eater, as parents, this is the service you love to see, and makes the experience all the more perfect!! Well done guys and gals!! We will be back!!

Friendly staff, lovely food and great atmosphere

Poor food and when a complaint was raised the staff were very confrontational! If you you have an issue with your food, be ready for a scene when you bring it up.

We had a celebration of life get together here. Gina was brilliant in sorting out the details. The staff on the day provided excellent service and the food was lovely and plentiful. We were provided with take away boxes for the party. I have to say I was really impressed.

Came here with a local to Elland. She said it was the best place to eat in Elland, and she wasn't wrong. Had the mixed grill, the chicken was the best I've had in years.

Went into Cooper Kitchens On the 30th of December. Around 8:30 PM. Bad experience Karaoke night could not hear yourself talking. People allowed banging on tables as if they were monkeys from a zoo. The bar staff have to cover the ears with their hands. Because it was so loud. If you behave like a barbarian, this pub is Ideal. I now understand why they allow barians into these pubs. It's because they need the money.

A trendy bar with a great atmosphere

We had a wonderful Sunday meal at Coopers. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed. The staff were very friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. The food was displayed beautifully and tasty. Everyone had an amazing meal. Great to eat in such a nice environment. Can’t wait to go back

Just what Elland needs in my opinion. Wide selection of beers available. Go look on a Sunday for some cracking live music is a great treat🎶 OH and the food now being served is just delicious 😋

The food was amazing The wife had tapas King prawn and fish. I had steak with wedges. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly l would recommend coopers to anyone. We will definitely be back.

Had the brisket sandwich with soughdough. Didn't expect the soughdough to be a soft bap so it just went all soggy, even without using the gravy. Inedible without it all falling apart. Gravy was impossible to use as they served the food on a chopping board rather than a plate. I think you should just use the right kind of bread for each sandwich rather than letting people pick. We left feeling like we'd just wasted money, especially my mum who hates soggy food. French onion was alright but not as nice as other soups. Didn't finish it

Always enjoy coopers! Whether it’s for a drink or food, I recommend booking to avoid disappointment as it does get rather busy in the restaurant x Burgers are to die for always big and good value for money

Quality food and service , fab modern , clean restaurant with an industrial , vintage twist. Tapas was great value, portion size very good. Can not fault at all and I am usually picky!

We visited last night for the first time after reading all the good reviews and I must say it did not disapoint. The food was beautiful, the place is full of character and the service was outstanding, the waitresses were all very professional and thanks to kadie for making our first visit a special one I highly recommend 10/10

First time visiting Coopers, came for pre birthday celebrations for the big 50 with my girlfriends. What lovely tapas, the food was delicious followed with Prosecco. Lovely friendly staff and even bumped into an old school friend who hadn’t seen for years.

First time here and we really enjoyed could t fault the food at all the Sunday lunch was excellent and very good value for money it would have been better if the beef had been slightly pink but the veg gravy and Yorkshires were spot on. The mash was lovely and creamy our only criticism would be the service. Whilst it was ok it could have been a little more friendly professional and attentive but we definitely weren’t put off coming again we will be back

Really nice interior. Nice food and reasonably priced too. Went on a Wednesday when they have a special offer on tapas. Out of all their dishes, my favourite was the padron peppers. Just the right heat and salt.

Found this place due to local Facebook page, wow that was a great find, what a brilliant atmosphere, families out dining, a really extensive menu all marked up with GF options, all staff were so enthusiastic, the chef went the extra mile and adjusted dishes to cater for my lactose intolerance. We opted for Tapas and they were very generous portions, some great accompaniments and simply amazing. The burgers that passed our eyes en route to another table looked really good. Prices are great, staff are greater!!! But the icing on the cake was their live music line up. Great to have a local venue at this standard without having to go to the big names and prices in Leeds which are not a patch on this place.

Great place to eat and drink! Can’t praise the service enough (thanks Ellie). Came for an afternoon meal with the family and fell in love with the retro vibe and excellent food. Kids loved the cheese toastie, which are almost adult portion size, and the adult sandwiches were tasty and filling. My wife had the brisket on sourdough and she went all When Harry Met Sally - which definitely means we’ll be returning. Highly recommended.
