I come to castle pub every week day with my 3 year old before the dreaded school run. Absolutely love the atmosphere and the kind staff. Always friendly and ready to chat with a smile. Tracy is lovely, she always talks to my daughter and my daughter loves to have a chat back. It's like our second home, we wouldn't be without it! You're the best!

The restaurant was short staffed, believed only two staff on but this didn't seem to affect the service. Staff were very helpful and friendly

Impossible to contact restaurant by phone, attended in person to book a table for drinks only to arrive on the day for said table to be occupied and no sign of reservation. Female Staff member (manager on duty?) dismissive and rude with a horrific condescending attitude: food awful… this is so called “rustic artisan bread”…. This is 45p Tesco bread toasted on one side only…. A kids sausage and mash meal doused in gravy…. Servixe Awful, food overpriced trash!

Tracy, Charlotte and Hayley were fantastic as usual. Restaurant level food in a nice cozy atmosphere with brilliant service and a friendly, local feel. Will of course be back. Never a problem to accommodate our pram and super sweet with our little one

A very relaxed pub with decent food and lovely staff. Popped in for a bit to have dinner and a drink. We opted to sit in the bar area but there is a large area specifically for diners too. The food arrived promptly and was great pub grub, can definitely recommend the chicken burger. The staff were super friendly and we had a very pleasant evening there.

What a lovely place! Ordered food and expected it to be "just ok". It was actually fantastic! Really nice portions, arrived hot and looked so tasty! (It was). Drinks service was fast too. I literally only went in on a whim but we will be back as a family for sure. Thanks to Sam, Megan and Kieran for being super kind and friendly. Now if you could please move this place closer to my home I would greatly appreciate it 😊. See you soon!

Cosy pub with lovely staff (shout out to Sam, Charlotte and Megan) and a nice, welcoming atmosphere. This is my favourite pub to visit when I’m in the area, with my dog. Lots to choose from on the lunch menu and vegan options are great - the celeriac steak is the best.

This place is a gem! It has a relaxed, cosy atmosphere, the menu has something for everyone, and the drinks selection is top-notch. The staff awesome, all super friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely fantastic food produced by James and Alisha, for starters we shared the scallops which were cooked to perfection, then when we moved onto our mains; the cod was mouth watering and the burger literally melted in my girlfriend’s mouth. Will definitely be returning. They are both a true asset to The castle.

Everything about this was excellent. We met with friends as a half-way between our two locations and we will definitely use it again. :-)

A last minute choice to eat out resulted in choosing the Castle having not been for a while. There is a reasonable choice of food on the menu. The mushroom starter was very disappointing. Not sure really what it was supposed to be, we ate it but thought is was overpriced and underwhelming and definitely would not recommend. The pork belly said it came with tenderstem broccoli and glazed carrots but there was no broccoli and no reason offered. I double checked the menu to be sure I had not imagined it. The food was ok although very small portion and I was tasting the pork well into the following day!! The gravy was quite salty!! I should have tasted first before pouring - lesson learned The burger was good but didnt enjoy the fancy fries wouldnt have them again. All in all food was bit overpriced and disappointing and I dont think we will rush back.

The vibes were immaculate, Tracy was amazing always keeping the party going. At the aperol party the dj was amazing and Tracy kept us all entertained! Will be back!

We had Tracy in the garden for the aperol sprits party and she was amazing, kept the vibes up by constantly dance and was overall wonderful. The DJ was playing really good music as well

Great service, came for my girlfriend’s birthday. The team really looked after us and nothing was too much trouble! We were recommended the hake special and lamb rump by Sam, did not disappoint! Very fresh and tasty! We’ll be back more often! Thank you!

Our first visit for a Sunday roast and it didn’t disappoint. Lovely food. Great portion size. Staff very friendly. We definitely want to go back.

We'd read some good reviews and hadn't been in a while so decided to give it another try, but really wish we hadn't. 3 out of 4 had steak, very expensive, unseasoned and fatty. It wasn't cooked to our requirements, very inconsistent. Served with thick cut chips which also weren't cooked through, they were edible, but only just. No green (or any other colour) veg served with it at all, for the price £30 each, it was a very bad meal. The peppercorn sauce had soooo much pepper it was inedible. We now wish we'd complained, when eating out it's normal to be asked 'how is your food' or at least to be asked 'how was your food' when the table is being cleared, but nothing from the staff, no questions at all. On paying the bill my hubby did mention how disappointing the meal had been to the girl behind the bar, who said she'd 'mention it' to her manager. All the staff were really interested in was selling us more drinks, which they did. Won't be returning or recommending.

Great Father’s Day menu service and food was great

An early mother's day outing. The food was by far the best we've had in a long time. The overall time we where there was worth every penny, the food was lovely and the staff were lovely even though it was very busy.

Delicious, hot, home cooked food in a cosy environment. Tracy who served us was really warm and welcoming and seemed to genuinely care that we were happy with our meals. We will definitely return when we’re in the area.

We frequent the castle a lot as it’s close by, dog friendly and has a great atmosphere. We are also always met with amazing customer service where the staff remember our dog and even our new baby. The food today was even better than usual, we were blown away. The truffle cheese donuts and steak sandwich were the highlights, although the squid and chicken starters were also amazing. Big thanks to Jess and Lucy in the kitchen as it truly was amazing today! Overall, the dining experience at The Castle Pub was exceptional. The dedication and skill of Jess and Lucy were evident in every dish, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking delicious, well-crafted food. Just been for a last minute meal at The Castle before our gig tonight and the food and service was excellent. Sam and Grant were very polite and accommodating, the atmosphere was peaceful and the decor was lovely.

Went in 6pm Tuesday. Quiet. Table not wiped . Food on the floor. Untidy , dirty, messy. Kids running about shouting. Staff disinterested and sloppy .

We had a lovely Sunday lunch. Food was excellent and Kieran our waiter could not do enough. One star just knocked off because where we were sat was a bit draughty. But don’t think they could do anything about the door as it was a fire exit. We will definitely come back.

Wonderful welcome, early seating. Perfect venue. Drinks offered immediately. Great menu Fabulous atmosphere. Food was presented beautifully and tasted amazing. The food and service are usually very nice, no complaints and with it being quite expensive that's what you expect. Our last visit however was not great. But they sorted the bill and were so very nice about it all. I think they perhaps had a new member of staff and that was possibly throwing them off their usual stride. We will be back of course. We all have bad days

Ate here for our sunday dinner and everything was amazing, service especially Tracy and Megan i believe, both attended to our needs and was very welcoming would definitely eat here again!

We had a wake at the castle. The service was very good and so was the food.

Attented for my bday and a few family had taken the day off to come. Told on arrival there's no prawns, slightly disappointed as this was on the menu and a couple had chosen prawn dish. If certain items can't be available then put them on as a special and remove from main menu.. it's not often you get chance for a nice meal and bit of a let down when you look forward to it and it's not avail. Other than that the available food was good, it was well presented and the staff were friendly and helpful. They have a good lunchtime deal.

Located in Sandal is this lovely classy pub which gives a nice cosy but modern vibe, and is also dog friendly! The staff were really attentive and catered for us promptly. There were a few items unavailable on the menu, but we were made aware of this before looking at the menu, which was good! There were still plenty of other options to choose from. For starters, we had the chipotle chicken which was very tasty and nicely presented. For mains, we both opted for the Malbec steak pie which was again, really tasty! You could taste the Malbec in the rich gravy and pie, giving that extra bit of flavour. It was served with mash and tenderstem broccoli, really nicely presented. Our starter was served very quickly (just 10 minutes after ordering), but the mains took around 40 minutes to arrive after clearing our starters, one hour after ordering. Not too much of an issue as it was a busy Friday, and it probably felt longer due to how quickly our starters arrived. We were very full but still opted for a dessert. Despite having lots to choose from, we both had the ice cream and home baked chocolate cookie. This was lovely although in our opinion it would’ve been better if the cookie was warm. Overall we had a great experience here, the food was lovely as well as the polite service and cosy vibes on offer.

Came with my 3 year old for the 'Easter Egg Hunt'. Both Sam and Andrew were very friendly and welcoming. Stayed for brunch and it was delicious, will be returning!

The dirty burgers were incredibly dry, when I say dry, it was the meat, so bland and over cooked. The burger bun was lathered in burger sauce which is not in the description on the menu. The chips were cold, and the onions rings were obviously the scraps leftover. The prices do NOT match the quality of food, why charge so much for less than average food. The wait time for the food is ridiculous, at one stage no tables were getting their meals. Nobody came back to check on the meals which is where feedback would have been given. Wish we listened to the reviews and gone elsewhere. The manager tried to rectify the complaint but unfortunately we just wanted a nice meal out, and we’d much prefer to spend £100 and have a great time than £40 and not enjoy anything other than the company.

Had a lovely visit at the castle, the new manager was very welcoming, warm and friendly. Me and my partner are not from the area and she made us feel very at home. She made come great food recommendations which were delicious. Will 100% visit again and will send any friends and family there way.

We, a party of 4, arrived for a 6pm dinner on a Thursday. The place was almost completely dead. It took 15 minutes after being seated for anyone to take our drink orders. It was another 30 before someone took our starter orders. We had been seated for AN HOUR AND A HALF before we had even received our starters! Our mains arrived roughly 10 minutes after we finished our starters, and they were disappointing, to say the least. The aubergine lasagna was pitifully small. There was no side offered with it, and so the person that ate it was finished with her meal an entire 10 minutes before everyone else. The pub was also out of several main ingredients, including prawns. The seafood linguine was bland; it was like there was not any sauce at all. The steak pie (which was the replacement offered after they ran out of the chicken pie) had a pastry that was too thick and over-baked; it caused the person’s knife to crash into his plate when he tried to cut it due to the amount of force he had to use to try and cut it. The sea bass was fine; not great, but it at least had a decent portion size. Our server(?) did not seem to care about how long it had taken us. He did not offer an apology or explanation over our, again, hour and a half long wait, until we explicitly mentioned that we were unhappy. He also did not seem to care that we had grievances at all. He was quick to shift blame, saying that it was because a server hadn’t shown for her shift, the cooks were being slow that night, or the new menu needed improving. When we had finished our meals, he asked us how it was. We responded honestly. He gave a (to us) half-hearted attempt at an apology, and then asked if we wanted desserts (which we would be paying for). We said no. He then asked if we were sure, because they were really good. We again said no. He started walking off, and then asked if we wanted after-dinner coffees. We again declined. We have no clue why he was so pushy about this, but it was unnerving. He did comp the steak pie, stating a few times that it was because we shouldn’t pay for a meal that we didn’t enjoy; if that’s the case, then perhaps the entire experience should have been comped. We saw at least one other table leave because they had to wait so long to be served. We almost left too, but we kept hoping that the pace would pick up and we’d be served at any minute. We have no clue what exactly happened tonight. The Castle seems to be on the decline, with service being poorer and slower every time we go there. The slowness was the worst part of all - if that was really caused by a single server not showing, then you *really* need to hire more help, because this sort of thing is going to kill your business, in our opinions.

Having read previous reviews I am reluctant to submit another as I am not convinced they have any impact on your performance. It was some 30 minutes before we received a drink at the table —it seems nobody was in charge to make sure your customers were being looked after. Many dishes were not available. My Crispy Duck was spare on duck —half were seriously under cooked and fatty and therefore discarded. The dish was presented on an oversized portion of noodle salad and quite tasteless. My wife’s meal of fish and chips was served on a plate that was too small and the skin was still on the fish. Wine prices are seriously inflated— at £ 10 plus for a glass of Sauvignon is well in excess of a Good NZ bottle .

Absolutely shocking! I will add a more detailed review tomorrow. The General Manager should hang his head in shame though. EDIT: I have followed up with an email to the GM.

Service was very slow, we were here for over 2 hours for a main course and dessert; server not very attentive otherwise we would have spent a lot more money. Main course options were missing lots from the menu and there were only 3 dessert options available.

Poor, booked 7.3opm meal 8pm Beef and fish meals unavailable very disappointed Chicken very dry and Yorkshire puddings unable to put a knife through Dessert waited 30 minutes to be served although not many people left in restuarant, my wife was treated by my son and daughter in law for mother's day and we did not find it upto your usual standards for the price we paid !

More negatives than positives .Cold food ,dry meat and small portions won't be going back however staff were very professional .I paid 17.95 for a one course Sunday lunch chicken roast which came with two chicken legs , the waiter brought me a chicken breast when asked about this.The vegetables were cold and the green veg was brought to the table much later at 5 minutes later than the main and not very well presented.I would have expected a hot dinner at least for that price .We went at 6pm Sunday was this the reason for cold food ???? Other guests had small portion sizes . The chicken breast was extremely dry and contained bones. The cost of desserts was nearly £9.95 overpriced again. Please don't waste your money . The ambience of the place was good with open fires and great decor, but unfortunately they weren't lit, central heating was on so it was warm enough. I didn't hand my plate back for warming as last time it happened it was several minutes before my plate returned and I didn't want to eat alone. Cold food ,dry meat and small portions won't be going back. When I mentioned my cold dinner on payment ,the waiter said you should have said at the time I can't knock anything of the bill as it was not mentioned at the time. Please save your money guys .....food cold and inadequate.

Called in for a pint the other week, atmosphere was excellent, open fires and that wonderful smell, the food I sneaked a peak at looked very good. A week later we are back. Bar staff friendly and knowledgeable. I'm not one for menus, so starter and main chef's choice. Goat's cheese starter, lovely presentation with a fantastic flavour combination (salty then sweet). Main course belly pork on a sliced potato base with a side of greens, cooked to perfection, crispy skin to belly pork and fat rendered down to melt in the mouth, potatoes held shape and not mushy. Partner decided on classic fish and chips with minted mushy peas, batter not as crispy as a chip shop (but they have industrial sized fryers), fish was perfect and good quality, chips (twice cooked) crispy outside and fluffy on the inside. If I could pick any fault it would be the minted peas, couldn't taste the mint, tasted like a completely different herb. I like a chef that will have a drink off me and chef definitely earned a pint 👌 highly recommended and we'll definitely be back.

We were disappointed with the quality of the food, especially from the kids menu. We ordered the chicken strips and what we received was a whole chicken breast, which appeared to have been deep fried and had bones in - not exactly appropriate for a toddler. The chicken was also tough and dry. Meanwhile, we had to wait for a portion of fries, which had been forgotten about along with two sides from a Mezze platter: one was never available yet we were able to order it, and the other arrived later after we questioned it. We went for an early lunch so the pub was very quiet, which is why I'm also disappointed in the level of service because little effort was made to correct the mistakes despite there being opportunities to do so. We expected a lot better considering the prices, and we will not be going back in a hurry.

Was really looking forward to visiting here. Ordered our starters and ain't courses together. Starters arrived after about 10 minutes and were good. After waiting 35 minutes for our mains I went to the bar yo be told they'd be 10 more minutes. When the steak arrived it was warm as though it had been stood for some Time. Very disappointed as was quite expensive.

Last minute lunch and must say we will definitely be returning. We were very impressed with the food and the service was amazing, Rachael is so friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcome.

We came in for lunch earlier today, it was very busy but the food was lovely and fresh. We were waited on by a loverly older member of the team called Rachel, she was most accommodating, and nothing was too much trouble, even when one of our party mentioned having an allergy.

The food we had was superb, but the choice on offer was fantastic. The service was excellent and we thought it was good value for money.

We came out for a family meal and had a lovely time. Food was lovely and the menu had a broad range of items. The children’s menu was the same and portions were good. The staff were attentive and created a lovely atmosphere for dining. A great meal in a lovely setting and we would definitely return!

Had a lovely meal. Used a 50% off mains voucher thank you. Reviewed slightly lower than would have but there were quite a lot of dishes unavailable in starters, mains and desserts.

Staff were friendly. Starters were fantastic. Waited far too long for our main course which was cold when it did arrived. Waiting staff disappeared for most of our visit and when they were in the dining room they kept their head down making it hard to get their attention. Ended up skipping dessert as the wait for table service was too long, and had to go to the bar to get the bill.

Been a regular at the castle for a number of years. This,unfortunately, was not the best and what we were accustomed to. It was a very cold evening and there was no heating on on one of the coldest evenings of the year. I mentioned this to the waitress who said she would look in to it but nothing changed.We and Some of the other customers were dining whilst wearing there outside coats. We had to return my wife's main course, sea bass,as it was over cooked.
