It’s very rare I write a review but The Castle deserves one. Went for Sunday lunch at the weekend and the food was excellent, staff were extremely friendly polite and went above and beyond. Lovely atmosphere. 5 stars all around.

Didn't have food, but it looked great.

Table booked for 9, with varieties of food from the menu. Food is very overrated and doesn’t quantify the price! The fish had bones and the peas were dry as a bone.

I wouldn't recommend it 3 times I've been 4 to 5 times and they can't cook a steak been waiting 2hrs everyone else has eaten and I am still waiting it's a shame as it's a lovely pub

A very nice place to sit, eat and drink. But prices seem a tad ridiculous. I ordered 1 pint of gamma ray and 2 pints of shandy with gamma ray. £21 !!! I questioned it and was told that was correct. Crackers.

“Christmas Day Dinner Ruined” 25 Dec 2024 Christmas Day Dinner £82.50 pp. The Beef Wellington was a mere slice of over cooked dry beef, one carrot one parsnip and something that resemlbed roast potatoes. See pics below for the portion size. They mention sophisticated dining, that's a joke, what a way to spoil a family Christmas. If I had not pre paid they would have not got full price. We have eaten regularly here and it is always good. Yesterday we were looked after by Rachael and Leoni and they did a great job. There had obviously been many people before us and we were later in the day, but it didn't feel like that at all.

We had previously been for Sunday lunch and enjoyed it, good food and reasonable sized portion. We booked for the Christmas day lunch. On arrival we stood at the bar for several minutes being ignored, staff members walking past, before someone spoke to us. The 4 courses were brought out very quickly after each other. Small portions. Only one scallop in the started, a teaspoons worth of goats cheese on the other starter. No better with the mains, one pigs in blanket, one piece of parsnip, 4 sprouts and very tough over cooked piece of beef. During the mealmwe were never asked if we wanted another drink even though our glasses were clearly empty. No one checked if our meal was okay. No one even wished us happy Christmas during the whole time we were there. On finishing our disappointing meal we had 30mins before our taxi so asked if we could get drinks at the bar and sit in the lounge area. The table server didn't seem to understand what I was saying. And on arrival at the bar we were told the bar was closed unless you were sat at a table, even though it was only 4.20pm. We were eventually allowed to have a drink (only the 2nd of the meal) and then attempted to be overcharged for the drinks, with no apology on pointing this out. 20mins later a group of people walked in from the street and had drinks served straight away with no problems. All.in all it was very disappointing. Poor service, terrible food and portion size and very very overpriced.

Great Xmas eve meal. Our server Louie a credit, looked after us, coped well under pressure especially for a young lad.

Food was great a few hiccups but it's a mad Xmas eve so it's expected but I want to mention Louis our server he was great,kept a cool head whilst under pressure kept our whole table happy and we are not the easiest of bunch to keep happy,you are a credit to your mum and dad such a lovely well mannered young man and very hard working

Went with Family on Christmas Eve. Very very busy - was a bit of a wait, but our server (Louie) was amazing! Food to die for!

Came in for a xmas eve dinner with my partner, having heard good things. Had the scallops and mushrooms to start, followed by the rotisserie chicken and sea bass for main. All was very tasty and was looked after very well by our waitress, Charlotte. Will be returning!

High end and not cheap so high expectations. Lovely setting and Good quality food, but few gluten free options and no lunch menu as such. Might not be back anytime soon.

Booked a table here to meet up with family whilst travelling up north. Had a fantastic meal, all our meals were delicious, we were sat at a lovely table next to the fire. Overall a genuinely pleasant afternoon.

An early mother's day outing. The food was by far the best we've had in a long time. The overall time we where there was worth every penny, the food was lovely and the staff were lovely even though it was very busy.

Unfortunately having been here a number of times, this was by far the worst visit. One of our mains didn't come out, it had been missed off the order completely and so a different meal had to be brought which would be cooked quicker so that the person didn't end up eating everyone else had finished. The vegan main came out with a non vegan Yorkshire pudding and it was missing lots of things like roast potatoes and other veg (it was the vegan wellington from the festive menu). All of the mains were cold and lots more were missing veg that was stated on the menu. The bill was messed up at the end resulting in one party paying £35 off the bill and a £70 gratuity which was then a pain to rectify.

Visited early September 2024. Service was good, very clean and cosy environment. Food was not great despite being highly recommended by friends. Please be warned that the car park has ANPR and if you do not put your reg in the console you will receive an automatic fine. I made the mistake of not noticing but the staff here have very kindly rectified the issue. Please please treat us like the idiots we humans have become and prompt us to pop our car reg in when we pay for our food. Thanks.

Such a great pub! Food is amazing!! Heard they have a new head chef so decided to see what their food is now like and just wow!

The staff in this pub are so lovely and are the reason for the three stars but the food really isn’t as nice as it used to be. They just didn’t seem to have any food in and just made random swaps to all our meals. We also had a burger and it was genuinely one of those frozen hockey puck ones you get from the supermarket. Thankfully we had a 50% off mains voucher as I wouldn’t have been happy paying their very high prices.

Called to try this place for the first time. Moving to the area. Good quality food. Disappointed that Chunky chips and Pate were off the menu. Not good for a Saturday Night. Slightly expensive for what it was. My wife had the pie and mash..That seemed the better option.

Sunday roast was horrible. Food came cold and the veg was raw. Chef clearly doesn't care past 7pm. If you do not care why do you serve it till that time? Very disappointing. Normally quite a good pud but the later in a day you go, the worst treatment you get. Prices are still the same though. Not nice at all.

Really poor experience for a family Sunday dinner we were all looking forward to. Food shocking, service poor, regret to say I would not recommend.

Would you believe The Castle serve's breakfast? Weekends only but a good selection and great quality produce. Full English for the other half, and avocado on artisan bread with a. side of poached eggs for me, staff friendly and welcoming, would recommend giving them a try.

I have been here before and enjoyed it every time. This time was to celebrate my son's and grand daughters birthday. There were 5 of us. Service and food is excellent but when the mains were nearly 40 mins late we wondered why and were told that one of their ovens had failed and so the delay. The manager (sorry I didn't get his name) handled it very well, except in my opinion he should have let us known earlier. We got the great food 15 later and as an apology he reduced the cost of the mains by 50%. My thoughts were on how they dealth with their Sunday customers minus one oven. We will be back.

Nice modern style pub with pet friendly seating area. The food was quite good. The goats cheese tartin was nice, but very small. The meat pie was good, as was the burger. Staff were nice

Although the food let us down during our visit as it didn’t meet the expectations we were given by a friend. This was made up by our service from a young gentleman named Louis he was extremely attentive and caring and bonded with my wife over their passion for football it is for this reason we will definitely be booking again. I was recommended the pub by a friend, it did not let me down the food was brilliant however the main attraction of the night was the customer service, truely unbelievable. Louis a true star and stand out member of the staff made my wife and i feel very welcome and involved in the atmosphere making sure all throughout our stay we were always looked after. A spectacular return to form, we used to love this place, it seriously went off the boil, but if anything it's better than ever today. Had a lovely family Sunday lunch. Service from the whole team was fantastic. Hayley greeted us and took us to our table, Caitlin served us and was very playful with our son and then oran was very helpful with the selection of beers at the bar. Now for the food, we all had Sunday roasts. Food was lovely and hot and the Yorkshire pudding was the size of my head. Ample parking and an easy screen to pop your registration number in to.

We ordered the buttermilk chicken burger, very tasty could of been done on a lower heat thats the only thing I will say apart from that it was very nice & yummy with lovely & friendly service very pleasant, I loved the decor very well presented they allow dogs and children there too

3 of us went to the Castle last night and oh my goodness it was terrible 😫 We have been many times before and it has usually been OK to good but last night there were many issues. We decided twice on which bottle of wine we would like only to be told they didn't have that one rather than telling us which ones were not available. There were no dauphinoise potatoes so mash was the substitute, which was ok, but when the meals came they were cold, dry and you could see they had to been stood for a good while! The belly pork was luke warm as was the steak pie. The only vegetable on the plates were 5 green beans, we were told there was no brocolli, carrots or peas, they had run out!! We had asked that they put plenty of green beans on the plates then but we got 5!! and they were cold too!!! The gravy, in it's own little pan was also, yes, you've probably guessed, was also cold with a fatty skin settling on the top 🤦🏼‍♀️ The manageress was apologetic saying they were moving to new suppliers hence the lack of products, however this did not account for the food being cold and small quantities of what was available. She did say that they also had new staff and young chefs who needed more training, but really, you don't need much training to know if food is is hot or cold and if there's enough on the plate! She offered to get us more food but by this time it was getting late so we declined as we couldn't guarantee it was going to be ok when it arrived. She did not charge us for the wine we had as part of the apology. I really do hope they overcome the problems they are experiencing and improve the quality and quantity of food for their customers otherwise they will definitely lose a lot of custom.

Fantastic Sunday roast. Everyone enjoyed, Yorkshire puddings huge and gravy was great. Belly pork was tasty - if on the small side but the chicken was fantastic! Has vegan options as well which is handy. Staff were very friendly and spot on. Ella and Alicia were fantastic. Would recommend and will go again!

Very poor value for money. The food took 50 minutes to arrive from ordering, the roast dinner was lukewarm at best and the cuts of meat were very small. The only thing warming the food was the boiling hot gravy and plate. The food didn't taste of much, very bland, so for a 'luxury' establishment I was left extremely disappointed. In addition, the bill came and VAT was not even included in the £22 roast and £18 pie. There must be better places in the local area.

The burger was over cooked and feels reheated. Arrived cold. The bottom half of the bun was soggy whilst the top half was dry. The chips were cold. Delivered late with the delivery time being changed numerous times. Waste of time and waste of money.

We had a great evening. The Castle is dog friendly too and the staff are really accommodating, they even have their own dog blankets! The food is always spot on and the staff are great. Big thanks to Tracy!

Food was amazing , we had the camembert starter and fillet steak for main . It was delicious, really love the ambience of this establishment.

We had a wonderful evening first having a couple of drinks in the bar (great beers!) and then moving to the restaurant. Kieran and Charlotte were extremely welcoming and looked after us. We ordered a variety of mains - each one different but we all enjoyed our food and the overall experience. One item would be the servers to come by more frequently to see if we needed more drinks but they figured it out in the end. Highly recommended

I come to castle pub every week day with my 3 year old before the dreaded school run. Absolutely love the atmosphere and the kind staff. Always friendly and ready to chat with a smile. Tracy is lovely, she always talks to my daughter and my daughter loves to have a chat back. It's like our second home, we wouldn't be without it! You're the best!

The restaurant was short staffed, believed only two staff on but this didn't seem to affect the service. Staff were very helpful and friendly

Impossible to contact restaurant by phone, attended in person to book a table for drinks only to arrive on the day for said table to be occupied and no sign of reservation. Female Staff member (manager on duty?) dismissive and rude with a horrific condescending attitude: food awful… this is so called “rustic artisan bread”…. This is 45p Tesco bread toasted on one side only…. A kids sausage and mash meal doused in gravy…. Servixe Awful, food overpriced trash!

Tracy, Charlotte and Hayley were fantastic as usual. Restaurant level food in a nice cozy atmosphere with brilliant service and a friendly, local feel. Will of course be back. Never a problem to accommodate our pram and super sweet with our little one

A very relaxed pub with decent food and lovely staff. Popped in for a bit to have dinner and a drink. We opted to sit in the bar area but there is a large area specifically for diners too. The food arrived promptly and was great pub grub, can definitely recommend the chicken burger. The staff were super friendly and we had a very pleasant evening there.

What a lovely place! Ordered food and expected it to be "just ok". It was actually fantastic! Really nice portions, arrived hot and looked so tasty! (It was). Drinks service was fast too. I literally only went in on a whim but we will be back as a family for sure. Thanks to Sam, Megan and Kieran for being super kind and friendly. Cosy pub with lovely staff (shout out to Sam, Charlotte and Megan) and a nice, welcoming atmosphere. This is my favourite pub to visit when I’m in the area, with my dog. Lots to choose from on the lunch menu and vegan options are great - the celeriac steak is the best.

This place is a gem! It has a relaxed, cosy atmosphere, the menu has something for everyone, and the drinks selection is top-notch. The staff awesome, all super friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely fantastic food produced by James and Alisha, for starters we shared the scallops which were cooked to perfection, then when we moved onto our mains; the cod was mouth watering and the burger literally melted in my girlfriend’s mouth. Will definitely be returning. They are both a true asset to The castle.

A last minute choice to eat out resulted in choosing the Castle having not been for a while. There is a reasonable choice of food on the menu. The mushroom starter was very disappointing. Not sure really what it was supposed to be, we ate it but thought is was overpriced and underwhelming and definitely would not recommend. The pork belly said it came with tenderstem broccoli and glazed carrots but there was no broccoli and no reason offered. I double checked the menu to be sure I had not imagined it. The food was ok although very small portion and I was tasting the pork well into the following day!! The gravy was quite salty!! I should have tasted first before pouring - lesson learned The burger was good but didnt enjoy the fancy fries wouldnt have them again. All in all food was bit overpriced and disappointing and I dont think we will rush back.
