Castaways Wine Bar and Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We were disappointed that the chef would not entertain adapting the carbanara dish which contained pork to a vegetarian option by substituting mushrooms for the meat. So the only choice i had as a vegetarian was a pizza. Very boring. Just not enough vegetarian options .We also found the service to be very slow, we were waiting for over 15 minutes just to order drinks. The desserts are also miniscule and overpriced. The whole evening was very disappointing. We are local and are regular visitors to the area but would not recommend this restaurant for food. Great to sit and enjoy the view with a drink.

We have been here previously, and have seen it at different times of day. The one consistent thing is the people who run the place and work there. They are so freindly and nice. Thw food was really good and the beer options are better than the normal 'Cornish' cack which breweries think people want. We went on a Friday evening this time and the local characters made it very entertaining.

Visited here twice whilst on holiday, the food was great, the steak was particularly enjoyed by the group, and the garlic pizza with cheese was lovely. The deserts were nice and vegan ice creams are also offered here. All the staff were fabulous and very friendly. Would definitely recommend a visit but book a table in advance!

Have eaten lunch here a few times in the last 2 years and always have been 100% happy with the meal (apart from one lasagne about 6 months ago which was dry, small and expensive). Today was no exception. Huge double burger with fries (so big I had to help me wife out with it) and I devoured the seafood chowder. I love chowder but today was I think the best I have ever eaten. I didn't want the bowl to end! The fish, spuds, cream and onions were cooked to perfection and the mussels (loads of them not just the cursery 3 some places add) were devine. A fab pint of guess beer to wash it down made for a very pleasant Sunday in the cornish fog! Will be back.

Spectacular spot. Lovely attentive friendly waitresses. Crab linguine x5 dishes, very bland, couldn't taste crab. Lemon posset not much better. Shame as had better there in the past. Over priced for what was on the plate.

Absolutely top rate for everything! What a team you are at Castaways! From the very first email enquiry, we had so much support in organising our Golden Wedding! Menu choices covered all our large family party requirements. A couple of changes were dealt with promptly.Nothing was too much trouble for the team. We were all welcomed into the beautiful mezzanine area and served the most delicious banquet. Service was so courteous and efficient accommodating speeches and family hug time. We felt that all the Castaways staff were like part of the family! We would recommend Castaways wholeheartedly for parties and special occasions, romantic dinners, lunches, coffee….everything! I visited Castaways for the first time, I booked a table online which was a simple process and probably worth during in the tourist season. It is dog friendly and I asked if possible to have a table with a bit of space to accommodate 2 largish dogs. On our arrival they had allocated us a table that had lots of room for the dogs. To be fair it is not a cramped restaurant and all the tables are well spaced and we needn’t have worried about space for the dogs. The food was really great I had the Roast Pork belly and it was the best I’ve ever had, the crackling just melted in the mouth. Good sized portions well presented on the plate. My friend had the Cod on Saffron rice again it was excellent. We both had Lemon Posset with raspberries and homemade honeycomb with shortbread for desert was excellent, especially the home honeycomb which was delicious The restaurant is well presented comfortable and in an excellent location overlooking the harbour. I can’t recommend it enough and well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Excellent, genuinely warm and customer focused dinner experience. Marc was just on point with everything. The food was high-quality, well cooked and interesting whilst still a stable and reliable menu. This member of staff really made the experience, alongside some robust, enjoyable food. Arancini were stocky and well seasoned, squid was fresh and well prepared, steak was stand-out and the schnitzel was moresome. Well done folks and thank you. This was one of many experiences at Castaways East. We are locals. We so appreciate the personal service of Mark, Aida,Lloyd and many other marvellous staff also the chefs Gavin, Luca and Olly. Lovely lunch at Castaways yesterday - the plumpest, juiciest mussels we've ever had, in a Goan spice & coconut broth. Staff were as friendly as ever.

Oh what a pity. So often when we have been to Castaways we have left happy and replete. Today, maybe because it was the first of the month, things took a turn for the worse. On the bottom of the bill (see attached) the person paying the bill is asked to 'Please give us a review on Trip advisor' - so I am obliging. I guess I have been to Castaways 5 times in 2023, for both dinner and luncheon. I only write reviews if there is something that will help others to improve or to congratulate them. Today I am afraid I feel like a teacher and Castaways are being sent to the naughty step. So what did they do wrong? 1. My Steak Frite was meant to have a garlic butter sauce. I noticed a tiny splodge on a little bit of one of 5 slices of steak but that was all. Certainly non reached the plate as when I had finished the meal there was no trace of any sauce having melted off the brown meat. My concern is that any chef worth his weight would have dressed the salad and made sure that the dribble of sauce was adequate. Somebody isn't paying attention! The Steak bavette was NOT medium rare. It was completely over cooked. And as for the dressed salad....there was none as mentioned earlier. And guess how much I was charged... £22.00 This is how it is described on the menu .. taken from the internet..: Steak-Frite Sliced bavette steak, cooked medium rare, fries and dressed salad, with garlic butter or salsa verde 22 2. My family ordered Burgers. The patties were so over cooked that I heard my wife and sister who were discussing the meal protest that the hamburgers must have been cooked yesterday! They were very very grey with lovely sear marks. Burgers should be cooked on a plancha - on the flat. To get sear marks that significant they had to be over cooked! When my sister commented that they looked and tasted like they had been cooked the previous day we were reassured that this was not the case. Well if that is so the chef at Castaways doesnt know how to cook Burger Patties. We started off with Garlic Pizza - which was excellent! SO Castaways has turned into a variable feast - but today it wasnt even that good.

It was busy enough, always good to see, and lovely and warm on a wet Friday. My only criticism is that it took a while for the food to arrive. That said, the bluefin tuna was appreciated (not my thing), and the venison pappardelle was delicious (also, it was a more generous portion). I'd eat it all again! There was no room for dessert - but I know from experience that they are always lovely. Also, the Sunday roasts are great and a fab deal at £22 for two courses.

We ate dinner here one evening last week whilst staying in a cottage locally, having seen the positive reviews. We first saw it when we went for a little walk around the harbour one morning and called in to ask if dogs were allowed in as we were considering booking dinner. We received a very positive response so later gave them a call. We had a really lovely evening - the 2 members of staff who served us were friendly and helpful, the decor was interesting with local paintings etc on the walls, candles on tables which were well spaced (so plenty of space for our golden retriever!) and the food was really tasty. 2 of us had cod on a lobster bisque risotto, my mum enjoyed her pork belly and my husband loved his crab and chilli linguine. We also shared a dish of perfectly cooked green beans. We then had desserts and 2 of our group were impressed with their mini treacle tarts and I enjoyed my Baileys choc brulee special with little shortbread biscuits. Hubby had a brownie, which was rather big and heavy but still nice. Lovely ice cream was served with the tart and brownie. Would recommend this restaurant. It must be heaving in summer in this location so you would need to book, but it was relatively quiet on a mid week Oct evening.

I called in the morning to book a table for that evening and mentioned on the phone that my son had a dairy and soya allergy. When we arrived we got a menu that had everything that was suitable for him to eat highlighted on it, including dishes that they could adapt to be suitable. It was lovely and immediately made our evening out more relaxing and enjoyable. The food, drinks, service and views from our table were fabulous! It was the perfect end to our break in Cornwall. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. We will definitely be back next summer!

Thank you, once again, to all the staff at Castaways!! We love our holidays in Mylor and we love coming to Castaways! The staff were all very polite and helpful, serving us with smiles and friendliness; and were very efficient with the food and the drinks. The food was delicious, the crab linguine was amazing, as was the fish and chips, crispy squid, the caprese salad and the burger!! Ice creams went down a storm with the children and the Rattler and Korev were chilled and superb!! Thank you to Marc and all of the Team - we had several visits and enjoyed every one. Excellent food in a wonderful setting. On one of the few sunny lunchtimes we were seated outside on the patio. We enjoyed a great lunch of market fish which was pollock on a saffron risotto which was amazing , also crab linguine which has chunks of crab and was the best which my husband has had and we regularly visit Rick Steins so that’s a great recommendation . We will return at some stage thank you.

Excellent location on Mylor Harbour with views of the river. Lovely bright interior with welcoming staff & excellent service. We shared squid starters & progressed to steak frites, clam chowder & wild mushroom gnocchi. All dishes were well cooked, tasty & beautifully served. We would definitely recommend for lunch & no doubt dinner lives up to the same high standard.

What a fabulous restaurant. Gorgeous inside, felt like I was in a cute Richard Curtis movie with the fairy lights. We had some delicious wine, the food was simply amazing! 3 of us ate, we shared starters and 3 mains and couldn't decide who had the best one. We were all glum when the last bite was eaten. Very good portion sizes, without overindulging. Initially we had the dogs (thank you so much for being the kind of business that welcomes us in!) but popped them in the car when I sensed a little friction with a terrier 😬. We loved it, told everybody we know in the area! Can't wait to come back. Hugely recommend the crab and chilli linguine.

What a shame! We have been frequent visitors to Castaways over four decades tonight we had to wait over an hour before even a glass of water arrived at our table. It is a shame that the poor staff in the restaurant were stretched beyond what can be reasonably expected to.. so the blame lays squarely on the management, although we received a 10% reduction on our blll it does not make up for a spoiled evening, we would rather have received a phone call to advise us of the delay we would have chosen to cancel disappointed but better than the alternative... So take note management limit your numbers to match your staffing levels!!

What an excellent restaurant with a perfect view over the marina and water. Greeted and looked after by very friendly and courteous staff. The food was very tasty and cooked to perfection. Highly recommended to others.
