Carwardine`s in Wiltshire

On our trip to Salisbury we were in need of a drink so stopped here. The staff were friendly and it was a lively and busy place. We decided to extend our stay and had lunch of toasted sandwiches which were well presented and came quickly considering how busy the place was and the extensive menu of breakfast and lunch items available. I recommend this as a place to stop during an exploration of the city.

Had a light lunch at the Carwardine`s; cheese sandwich + chips. The staff was friendly and service fast. The cheese sandwich + chips was basic but tasty. The decor was nice and comfy. Good location.

Tuesday 30th July 2024. 11.45am. My friend and I both had cooked breakfast, it was absolutely delicious, freshly cooked and plenty of it. We didn’t wait long and the food was piping hot. Price was good too. The waitress was lovely and friendly. I highly recommend and most definitely will be returning the next time I’m in Salisbury. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is first and will be our only time to this cafe, the pictures of food outside the cafe drew us in but the food they served us looked nothing like the pictures.. I ordered gammon and cheese toasted sandwich there was no butter on the toast and the cheese had no flavour what so ever also a tiny bit of wafer thin ham shoved in it,chips weren’t cooked either Tea was horrible Don’t waste your money like we did.

Warning bells rang when I cut into a chip and the grease spurted out. We had ordered the ham and cheddar cheese toastie, served with chips and salad. There was no cheddar cheese, just long strings of something resembling mozzarella but very bland. Dry crusty wholemeal toast and a few shreds of limp lettuce...so much for salad. This pathetic dish cost £8.50. As for the coffee, I requested an 'extra shot' as I normally do anywhere only to receive a quantity of lukewarm,'coffee coloured' milky drink which didn't even taste of real coffee..disgusting. A place to avoid.

Popped in here just after xmas 23 as all other venues were full. My partner and I both had toasties that came with chips and a "salad." We both agreed it was awful...probably the worst food we have ever had in an eatery. the toasties were virtually inedible...the chips were not nicely cooked and the "SALAD" was one small iceberg lettuce leaf chopped into little pieces. TBH it was an insult to our intelligence...Needless to say we will never go back...Very amateurish. Do yourself a favour...Eat elsewhere

What a great little place. We managed to get a table for six on our first lunchtime in Salisbury as the place was very busy. We may have outstayed our welcome somewhat as we were the last to leave as they closed at 4pm. Anyway we all had sandwiches and drinks which were all superb. The only draught beer they have is Heineken which was fine. They have several other beers in 500ml bottles. The six lunches we had were all excellent and being in a warm cosy atmosphere was just what we all needed. Staff were excellent and the quality of food and service was perfect.

We went for breakfast on Friday and although there was a good atmosphere and the staff were pleasant, Carwardine's was not very clean. Our teapot looked like it hadn't been washed for ages, inside and out and the toilets stank of acrid urine. The toilet pan was also very stained. We have been there several times in the past, but not sure I would be in a hurry to return. Also not very pleased to see staff vaping outside and then coming back to serve customers.

Had a great meal. Staff made great efforts to cater for a 5 year old coeliac and 2 nut allergies. Would definitely recommend and will come back next time we are here.

Decided to pop in for a light breakfast as have seen this place regularly busy in the past. After looking at the menu and the prices, we thought we would be treating ourselves to some nice quality food. How wrong we were! Whilst ordering our breakfast at the counter, we witnessed them using a carton of Tesco orange juice to fill up a small glass, Which they charge almost twice the price of the whole carton for! Then, whilst waiting for our food, we witnessed the owner wheeling in a trolley full of Tesco bread, which was a serious surprise when they are charging £5.35 for a sandwich. When our food arrived, I can only assume the sausages had been purchased from the same place as the rest of the ingredients, as they were small and had no flavour to them at all. The scrambled egg was barely scrambled, with large chunks of yolk present and served on a couple of pieces of cold toast. The only reason I can think that this place is so full is due to its location and the amount of tourists that must drop in. Save yourself and just pop to the local supermarket instead.

Warm greeting as always,Saturday morning in Salisbury is Market Day so Carwardines was busy but,a couple of vacant tables,the staff were lovely and were very thorough in their cleaning of vacated tables. I ordered the Bricklayers Breakfast for me and a round of toast and marmalde for my wife as she wasn't very hungrt,tea and a coffee. Tea and Coffee arrived quickly and the food a few minutes later,hot and well cooked,the young Waitress very pleasant and when my wife asked for a little more butter it arrived in a dish within seconds. We have used Carwardines quite regularly on a Saturday morning for many years and have never had a bad experience,the people who seem to have had a negative experience were either unlucky or invererate moaners!

We had a lovely welcome and found a table by the door. The menu wasn't, but it had a bit of everything for everyone. We both decided on the Shepherds Pie(lamb). It was amazing, lovely lamb filling and cheesey mash. The staff were really friendly. Shame we are only visitors

What lovely people here! So warm and welcoming. Had a lovely lunch with Generous portions. I left my brand new umbrella at the restaurant for 2 weeks. Rung them up and they still had my umbrella. Couldn’t believe it! What an honest lovely team. Forever grateful and will be back as your oat lattes are beautiful! Xxx

Had the all day breakfast at lunch time with my mum and all I can say it was one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. very filling and great price and service. and set me up for the rest of the day and

Not as good as previous visits. Breakfast overcooked, chicken and bacon sandwich okay but salad garnish one piece of lettuce and not many chips. Also £3.90 for a pot of tea excessive.

I just wanted to say thank you for the way you looked after my elderly mum yesterday while she was waiting to meet my daughter for lunch. Mum says that she felt really welcome and really enjoyed the food and general service.

A delightful little cafe/ restaurant in a perfect spot. Staff were really friendly and pleasant. We only had drinks but the food we saw looked delicious. It is so nice to be able to support smaller independent places especially when they are surrounded by endless chain restaurants with no soul! Really good to see how busy it was, will certainly return when we visit Salisbury again.

Two great cooked breakfasts - the cooking, quality and quantity of food is really good, especially for the price. Pot of tea arrived very quickly and food was obviously freshly cooked - and had the right extras that we’d ordered. The staff could not have been more helpful - pot of tea refreshed with more hot water for free, and water for our dog arrived without asking. Will definitely be back.

Absolutely shocking experience. The worst possible customer experience I’ve ever experienced. I hate leaving a bad review but today was just ridiculous from start to finish. My father and I ordered a veggie all day brunch and meat all day brunch with an extra sausage and a cheese tomato and onion toastie..that’s three people but we were given a knife and fork and a knife?? Toastie arrived as a sandwich my brothers all day brunch arrived without the extra sausage that I had ordered and my fathers meal didn’t arrive at all!! The waitress was not only rude but treated us as if we were liars and made the mistake. Food was disgusting when it eventually arrived . I would avoid unless you are starving to death

The staff were very friendly and the service excellent. We enjoyed the fish and chips and couldn’t fault it. The brownie was good too.

Stopped off here whilst travelling through Salisbury. The cafe itself was ok, although looked better from the outside. Had the full English breakfast which was fine with the exception of the sausage…the quality of the sausage often sums up the breakfast and unfortunately the sausage...

We visited this cafe for Friday lunch. It was quite busy but we got a table straight away. The full English breakfasts were quite good, but nothing special. The service was very slow and we waited 30-40 mins for our food.

Myself and my family eat at Carwardines from time to time. I do feel the reduced menu lacks variety. No sandwiches, baguettes, baked potatoes on offer. Could be better. Children’s menu offers chicken nuggets and chips, nothing else whatsoever, poor really.

We popped in for two take away plum crumble cakes and coffees. Really quick service and helpful girl behind the counter. Food tasty and coffee really good. Food looked a good price as well. Will visit to have a breakfast next time.

Having watched the parade and listened to the eulogies we moved on from the city centre to drink coffee and hot chocolate and enjoy home made cakes. The atmosphere was very good. The business has been established for 25 years. I can recommend this cafe.

Lovely lunch meal for four. 2 burgers, a mac and cheese and a kids scampi and chips with drinks All the food was served quickly and with a humour that really made the service. All for £31. Highly recommended.

we chose to have breakfast at Carwardine's as we wanted to support a local business rather than a big chain. the tables were cleaned down promptly, screens in place between the tables to reduce risk, good social distancing but the attention and service were not impacted by it. tasty breakfast, good coffee, pleasant staff and prompt service, who could want for more - oh, and it didn't cost an arm and a leg.

Visited salisbury 5 days ago, stayed at local hotel. This place close to cathedral very friendly staff, outside seating very safe, good service in difficult circumstances. Thanks for all you efforts to keep us safe and watered!

Friendly service and a good breakfast. My only criticism would be the quality of the sausage in the breakfast, I'm pretty sure you could source a better quality product locally which would raise your breakfast from good to excellent!! I would definitely eat here again and the coffee is excellent.

We ate there yesterday for lunch outside. Waited a long time to be served and for our food to arrive. Having pre paid. The older waiter was really friendly but because of the sun couldnt see the machine screen and because he thought it hadn't worked I tried again successfully. The food was ok to be fair when it came. This morning I checked my bank and had been charged twice which was a genuine error. I rang the restaurant and I was told there was nothing that could be done unless I went back. We are not stopping locally so that was impossible. The person I was speaking to told me they couldnt sort it because all receipts were sent away. Despite me having my copy to hand. He ended the call by slamming the phone down and I heard him say 'f**k' as he did so. I'm really not one to write such reviews but I'm having to go through my bank now to sort this when it could have been so much easier.

Me and my family had breakfast this morning, we waited on outdoor seating for 15 minutes ignored by staff before going in and asking for service, the blonde young waitress with piercings in her lip was unhelpful and seemed like she didn’t want to serve us, she got our order wrong and proceeded to blame us. Hot chocolate in picture tastes like watered down milk and looked like dish water. Our food was slow and although not what we ordered tasted fine. Seems such a shame in such a good location to have such poor service other tables waited on by other staff seemed fine. Wouldn’t recommend and certainly won’t be back.

Visited the store today for breakfast, we sat ourselves down, service pretty quick ect, have no faults with the food what so ever but I am annoyed, we paid before food arrived and after the waitress left the table my husband queried with me saying should the bill be this high as it falls under the 50% eat out to help out scheme set by goverment, they didnt have the stickers up so I said they must not be, he was sure they were so we checked the goverment website, and my husband was right they were, so after we ate my husband went inside to query why this wasnt added to the bill, they explained there system wasnt up and running yet, which i suppose in a way is fine but this should have been explained when we were seated or atleast paying, I'm still confused to why it is not up and running as everywhere else in Salisbury is they are advertising it everywhere. Only after my husband queried did the waiters and waitresses then told the people who were paying behind us. Again I really cant complain with the food, the politeness of staff, we didnt eat there for the 50% but to know it was applicable for this place and not to recieve it is annoying.

Made an impromptu visit to this cafe. Staff were quick to seat us but service after that was very slow. Waitress left us waiting quite a while to take our order, even took someone else’s who came in after us, before she came to us. Not particularly busy inside. Asked to pay before the meal- not sure we’ve had that before at a waiter service eatery. Toilets were pretty grubby, couldn’t see baby change facilities either. Food was mediocre and the glasses for the drinks had marks on them (some with lip stains still on them). Waitress did exchange these after we pointed this out but felt this should’ve been checked prior. Disappointed as we had made the decision to visit, based on the overall trip advisor score.

Staff really friendly and polite. Food average and simple but lots of choices and exactly what you'd expect. Wasn't massively impressed with the chips and thought the decor was dark and a bit overpowering.

As usual when we visit Salisbury, we headed to Carwardine's for lunch. It was very busy - not surprisingly! - but our food was served quickly and with a smile. We both chose Welsh Rarebit with a salad and it was delicious, the tea was good too! The hard-working staff are always so friendly, with a smile for everyone, and are a credit to their employers. We wouldn't go anywhere else!

Visited today for lunch. As there are no vegan items on menu I asked for beans on toast, both items being available with other things. Not only was I told no, thats only breakfast but I was advised we have a gluten menu. When I responded thats not vegan I got raised eyebrows and a sarcastic reply about not being able to do anything. As we said we would go elsewhere another equally sarcastic response of good luck. No attempt to offer alternative and clearly not vegan friendly. Maybe he didn't understand what it meant- not sure how gluten free equates!Won't be going back!

Aunque el café estaba muy ocupado, el personal seguía siendo amable y se apresuraba todo el tiempo. Se ofrecieron a llevar su bandeja si necesita ayuda. La comida que tuvimos (bistec y cebolla baguette, y pastel de verduras) era excelente, caliente y con una buena relación calidad-precio.Volveré cuando visite Salisbury nuevamente

We saw their signage as we were sightseeing. We decided to go for breakfast since their prices were so reasonable. Food was good, service speedy. You order & pay at the counter and they bring your meal to the table. Portions are generous, coffee was very good. Next time I'm going to order a full English breakfast and split it for two!

meeting friends, we were passing this place. We looked in to see what was available when someone sitting outside said it is very good. We decided to go in. The staff were very friendly and the food reasonably priced. After a bit of banter with a lady over a mix up with the soup, (not her fault) we left feeling fulfilled.

My husband and I had lunch here today, we chose the meal of the day which was fish and chips, it was a nice meal the fish was very nice but the chips were frozen chips . For the price we paid it was very reasonable. The toilets were a let down, my husband said the gents looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in a while, the ladies wasn't much better.

Due to traffic situation we were unable to make a booking in one of recommended restaurants and were fully booked. We found this restaurant by wondering around. They were about to close or stop serving lunches but decided to serve us. Friendly staff, nice design, menu a bit limited. Reasonable service. Food was kind off average, mine fried was satisfied with her fish but mine was a bit tasteless (tasted like it was reheated..). It is a bit overpriced for food quality.

Without a doubt the best breakfast of the week, been on holiday in Dorset and heading home- so glad we stopped. Service and staff excellent. Food excellent. No downside at all !

The menu is limited considering the competition. We ordered and the food came in good time as it wasn’t very busy. We asked for some sauces to come with our meal as we where asked. After a few minutes and the fact, the waiter who asked us sat down with his friends for his lunch, we didn’t get our request. I went to the counter to ask but it did take some time that was wasted and half way through our lunch. As we finished another member of staff sat down and started smoking. I know staff need lunch and a break but do it away from paying customers and make sure the customers have priority.

Having arrived mid morning my wife and I came here for brunch, we were told where we had to sit even though the place was empty, smoke wafted in from people sitting litteraly Two feet from us through open window, asked to move and was like we were asking for a miracle.

Centrale, comodo, economico. È un po’ complicata la procedura per ordinare (si chiede al bar e si paga), ma i piatti sono espressi e le porzioni abbondanti. Ottimo Fisher pie e cheese cake con le fudge, che sono la caramella tipica della zona, una sorta di mou, ingentilita e morbida.

Es un café acogedor con gente muy simpática y amable. La comida es la típica inglesa que puedes tomar en un pub. En nuestro caso tomamos fish&chips; ya que era viernes y en UK los viernes ofrecen como menú del día este plato. Bien.

We travelled to Salisbury for the day to see the cathedral and do some site seeing. Stopped here for lunch, had the ham and cheese toasty, steak and chips and ham and chips. Everything was fantastic, great food and service on a lovely setting, really enjoyed and will be back next time in Salisbury....

Best coffee in Salisbury. Seating inside and out. Food - good selection of sancks and meals - can recommend the cakes, and jacket potatoes.

The food at Carwardine's is nice and reasonably priced, with quite a few gluten-free options (toasted sandwiches, chips are fine except for cross-contamination, some bigger meals are GF and there is also cake). The service was quite slow, but this wasn't too much of a problem because we sat outside, which was pleasant.

Not a great lunch time experience. Poor selection of GF menu choices for one of our group. Somewhat under staffed I would have said not best trained either. Whilst some of the food we had was fine, the duck choice was probably the worst food I have ever had. I think the duck may very well have come from the river Avon around the corner. It was very tough! the wine gravy was horrendous, it was a thin lake flooding the plate. It tasted burnt. The meal was also spoilt by someone smoking outside and the stench was blowing in the open windows. On the positive side the wild boor sausages chosen by another party member were great. In such a good location this restaurant needs to very much up it's game.
