Beautifully cooked fish, wonderful chips, tasty mushy peas. We have been to Carvers a few times now, and every time the food is cooked perfectly. The staff are friendly and helpful. Fridays are usually very busy, but it is worth the wait.

Not too sure whats going on at Carvers but honestly the fish and chips we got this evening were terrible . The chips were dry ,the fish had been stood too long and was also quite dry and covered in a very thick batter, all in all very disappointed .To cap it all i requested scraps which when i got home were missed probably due to the young people serving being preoccupied with chatting to each other rather then concentrating on the customers requests . Sorry but after many years of custom i wont be returning to Carvers any time soon .

Not been here for years. We had been to the Plowright for a Matinee and an early "tea". Too early for a good curry place that was open. So popped into Carvers. Good friendly service and meals arrived quickly. It must help that the adjacent takeaway is constantly frying. Two excellent haddock and chips piping hot on hot plates.Generous portions, inc. a bowl of hot scraps! Really good, gives places in Cleethorpes and Whitby a run for the money.

Visited for lunch, first visit for quite some time. Although the food was freshly cooked and piping hot overall the quality was not quite as good as it used to be....Something that gains the edge in the current economic pressure we are all under. Portion sizes for us were just right, not overfaced by over large portion of chips. Excellent piece of Cod although the batter let it down somewhat. Service was very good and 'plaice' was very clean.... The tea should be served when the meal was served and the plates should be warm before the food was plated, if these were addressed then it would be much better! Overall it was not bad value

Visited for first time Wednesday having heard good things and not disappointed. Dinner time so ordered small haddock special, portion slightly smaller than expected, but adequate and quality made up for this. Batter nice and crispy, with perfectly cooked fish, chips nice and brown, unlike the anaemic soggy ones which are sadly becoming normal. Peas ok but little bland, just lacking that pea taste, nice cup of tea and fresh bread and butter. For £7 amazing value for money. What was really nice was being allowed in as a solo diner, I have been refused at a few places since Covid. Will be returning

Having lived in Scunthorpe all my life I’d never been to Carvers so decided to go here for my birthday lunch. Arrived at approximately 2-30 and had the lunch time special. I had the small haddock with chips and mushy peas. The others had the cod with curry sauce. All freshly fried, came with tea and optional bread and butter. Batter nice and crunchy. Chips were excellent mushy peas slightly whalley, as I was told was the curry but for me the fish and chips was what that mattered. Server came checked if everything was all okay which is always good. It was well worth the visit and would certainly recommend.

Waited ages for takeaway haddock and chips. Plenty of serving staff on but no organisation in assigning orders to restaurant customers, takeaways or deliveries, and no fish ready to serve even though it was clearly a popular time. Not sure why the member of staff doing the frying thought it was OK to stir the raw batter several times with his finger. We were looking forward to Carver's fish and chips after not going for over a year, but won't be going back - plenty of other good chippies in the area.

The Grandsons regard it as a great treat to come here for their tea. We also enjoy it too! It is a very friendly small cafe next to the take away. Orders are taken promptly and there can be a wait for the food to arrive as it is cooked fresh. Portion sizes are generous - a small cod and chips with mushy peas floors me. The chips are crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. The fish batter is just the right thickness and is always crispy and not greasy. The scraps are an added bonus. Sauce is served in a small pot.

Excellent Fish and Service in a very clean and well presented Restaurant. Both a small Cod and a a large Haddock excellently cooked with lovely crispy batter. However it must be said that 2 small points for me lost it the 5th star! The Chipslet the meal down badly, cooked and refried and left standing! At the prices I would have expected fresh ccoked. The second point, not quite as bad was that the foofd was servewd on cold plates, letting the food go cold too quickly! if these 2 points were addressed then it would definitely have a 5 star rating.

Eaten here at least 20 times recently and the standard never drops below excellent.Previously went to Hull for decent fish & chips but, since dining here, now no longer necessary.Obviously, there is a short wait for the fish to be cooked from fresh. Adds to anticipation!Staff: could not be better as polite, friendly and efficient. I wish I could find traditional 'English' food elsewhere, anywhere near as good. I am not known for being easily pleased! I've had two very poor meals out (in Brigg and Cleethorpes) in the past two weeks. Oddly, both these places had glowing reviews on Trip Advisor.Regardless of price, Carvers is the ONLY eatery I know where the standard is consistently EXCELLENT. Fish is incredibly fresh and white with crisp thin batter, and the chips tastes like 'mother used to make' and are always piping hot (& don't harden as they cool).Example of cost of eating in this pleasant, comfortable restaurant: £6.10 for 'special' haddock, chips & peas, bread & butter, tea. DELICIOUS!

We used to eat here a lot when Eric the sadly now deceased owner was running it. He ran a tight ship and the place was always busy due to its outstanding fish and chips. We ate here again recently after a fairly lengthy interval from our last visit. The menu has been expanded otherwise there seemed at first to have been little change. Then we noticed the tables were a bit sticky, the service was a bit slow, the waitresses not quite as friendly as we remembered previously. The food was still excellent, slightly pricey perhaps for fish and chips but large portions superbly cooked. It seemed to take forever however before our order arrived. Yes it was freshly cooked but we waited almost 30 minutes for fish and chips in a not very crowded restaurant. Truth be told Eric's pride in his food is being upheld but the service could do with some freshening up.

Visited here after going to the fish and chip shop for years as a kid. The restaurant was good. 9.90 for a large haddock and chips with mushy peas was ok for a sit down place. The restaurant wasn't massive but there was enough room when I was there, I imagine it gets busy though. The service was friendly if not the fastest but then its a sit down meal not a takeaway. The menu has lots on it but I can't imagine they sell much apart from fish and chips, it has a few different size options as well. It was as good as I remember.

I've long known Carvers as one of the best chippies in the area, and while they always seem to be busy there are a couple of things which really irk me about this place, I'll get to those in a moment. Let me start by saying that the food here is of a very decent standard, the chips are what you would expect, the fish is fresh and always cooked to a good standard and the other menu items seem to be decent also, especially the homemade steak pie which was stuffed with steak and very tasty. My problems with Carvers, firstly the price does not reflect the quality here, you can easily get the same quality elsewhere in Scunthorpe for less. Secondly, while I was given a large portion of chips, the gravy I ordered was not even half full, for the 80p I paid for it, a larger tub would have been more appropriate but only having a dribble in a tiny tub, c'mon carvers... you can do better. Next, the lady who served me did not seem to have a great grasp of English, I had to repeat myself 5 times before her colleague explained to her what I was ordering (English is my first language and I'm not exactly hard to understand) and even after that she rang it up wrong. I asked about the specials menu which I couldn't see on the back wall but got no response, it was only after I had ordered and paid full price that I noticed a specials board near the door of all places, the area you see when you leave.Overall I was less than impressed with my first point of contact with Carvers and the menus should definitely be better laid out to accommodate new customers. That said, despite the lack of gravy, I did enjoy my pie and chips and will definitely be giving Carvers another shot.

Following a couple of recommendations, my wife and I booked a table for Lunch at Carvers Fish & Chip Restaurant in Ashby High St Scunthorpe. It was a cold rainy day when we arrived at 12.45pm to eat, but we were nonetheless greeted with a warm friendly welcome from the lady who had taken our bookingThe premises were deserted except for another couple who were in the process of leaving when we arrived, although our numbers were shortly increased by a chap in his work clothes. The restaurant was fairly clean and tidy but the décor was rather sombre and poorly lit, we felt a splash of colour, somewhere, would have been a welcome addition. Our order was taken efficiently and, after a reasonable wait, the meals were served. As we had ordered different sized portions our Fish and Chips came, as you may perhaps expect, on different sized plates but, my Wife’s meal totally filled her smaller plate and as a result looked quite un-appetising We both agreed the freshly cooked Chips were delicious and my Wife was happy with her Peas however, we both had issues with our Fish. The batter was seriously undercooked in each case and mine ‘oozed’ fat when I cut it. My indigestion, triggered by ‘cooking fat overload’ lasted for several hours. Our cups of Tea were okay, but the Bread and Butter was rather greasy since the enthusiastically spread slices had been placed on the plate overlapping each other. We were asked, by a different member of staff, from the one who had served us, if everything was OK but we felt the enquiry was very mechanical and remembered not long before we had finished eating. All in all, the experience wasn’t something that we would rush to repeat and it would be difficult to justify a recommendation to friends and family, but it wasn’t the end of the world and maybe owed some of its shortcomings to it being a miserable day and there being a decided lack of other diners.Incidentally, four more people came in to eat just before we left

People who are Scunthorpe natives often rave about this restaurant, but I have never really understood why and my most recent visit did little to change my views. We ate in. There is now a Greek menu on offer, but when we asked about it, they only had Moussaka and Lasagne (not Greek!) left, which was a bit disappointing, given that it was only about 1.30pm. We ordered fish and chips, which were relatively tasty . The fish and batter were quite well cooked. The children's meals were only £1 with an adult meal and included a drink and ice-cream, which was very reasonable. However, there was no option for children to have fish, only fish bites or fishcake, which my children were a bit upset about. The waitress was friendly and helpful and was good with our kids. What really lets this place down is its total lack of ambience. It felt very dark, despite it being the middle of the day and just feels in dire need of a facelift. I know it's 'only a fish and chip' restaurant, but I do feel it could be so much better with more light and more modern decoration.

This is second time we have ordered Carvers take away for tea after both been at work all day and not fancying cooking. My partner, myself and son ordered fish and chips etc the first time a couple of weeks ago, it took over 60 mins to come, we only live in bottesford, ten mins away at most. How is it, I can order an Indian or Chinese and they can make it to order an1 have it at my door in under an hour, but a chip shop, which already has the chips etc cooked in massive quantities, can't deliver in good time? This time was the worst, it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to come. I could of drove to pub, ordered, ate and returned home in that time. Dont think I'll be ordering again, too unreliable, not what you want when you've had a long day and need a quick fix for tea. The food, I will say, is nice, but not nice enough to keep me from going elsewhere when the wait times is this bad. Sorry.

At a loose end and not wanting to sit down to a Sunday roast, the wife and I got the taste for fish and chips. Give it a thought to try out Carvers Chippy, a bit reserved due to a bad experience some time go.WOW what a change, the smell as you enter the restaurant of the chip shops as a child came flowing back. A relaxing atmosphere although busy, families and couples chatting away.We were pleasantly greeted shown a table and offered a menu, for me a forgone conclusion as my mouth was watering. A large fish and chips for me, a regular for the wife and although a little wait we weren't disappointed, fish cooked to perfection chips mushy peas bread and butter.we will be returning to this restaurant and advise others to treat yourselves to a "Chippy Tea"

Go here every week. Food always good and consistent. Can't fault the place in any way. Same quality of food despite different owners and staff

Still a great chippy, well worth a visit for a takeaway or a sit down meal, not the cheapest food but certainly one of the areas best

My wife and I visited this restaurant again to day and had another excellent meal the food is freshly cooked when ordered and is worth waiting for. The staff are friendly and helpful. The best thing is they do a pensioner's meal at a reasonable price. The places is also very clean and tidy. We will be going again soon.

What can you say....it's a Fish & Chip Shop with a sit down restaurant attached.Been frequenting this chippie for around 35 years ....always an excellently run chippie with good foodUnfortunately a few years ago....after being family run for years Eric Carver died.....leaving the running to Rose....but eventually she decided she had enough & sold it on to one of the competitors who is gradually expanding the empire & things went downhill for some time...Recently however things have improved & while not quite as good as the Carvers of old it is one of the best chippes in Scunthorpe

It has been a few years since we last visited Carvers and the meal was excellent then. I am pleased to report that the excellent standard has been maintained. The haddock meal was very tasty and my wife tried the fish pie and she thought it one of the best ever. The restaurant was pleasantly furnished and the staff very friendly. We will definitely go again.

I visited the restaurant for the nth time but had not sampled the lunch menu. Presented with a small cod, chips and peas with tea and bread and butter for a few pounds, the meal was dellicious. Will go again.

carvers use to be a great fish shop since being taken over the service and food quality has dropped a lot yet they still think they can charge you the high prices, won't be visiting any more I'm afraid.

Carvers has been in Scunthorpe for years,my parents and grand parents used to get their fish and chips here .I am now a grand parent myself. It has always had a good reputation, although it has recently been taken over and has slightly changed it is still worth a visit. The fish cakes are home made and worth a try too.

When this fish & chip shop was owned by the Carver family it was very good but not anymore i'm afraid. It used to be the place to go for fish & chips but now it is just a bog standard chippy & very over priced. The last fish & chips i got would have Eric carver turning in his grave. The chips were very bitty (the small hard chips that no one can eat) & the fish was overcooked & very dry. If i had not been so tired i would've taken them back but i threw them out on the lawn for the bird instead.

Have been here a few times but last time was a let down, the place was busy but we were seated quickly, after that it went downhill. We ordered two specials which included drinks, peas and bread and butter. The waitress was abrupt and spent a lot of time chatting to the regulars this made us feel uncomfortable. Our meal arrived without the bread and butter I asked for it twice but to no avail, we didn't seem to matter. Needless to say I didn't leave a tip.

Great chippy, quick service, everything fresh and hot. However - it used to be a lot better. Fish seems smaller and flatter now and the batter less crispy. Chips not as good either. What happened??!!

From being told there’s a wait time of 30-45mins for food we awaited at table with our drinks. On arrival of meals mmm have to say was shocked chips practically cold meals poor in presentation as for mine being the crispy double chicken burger was not impressed n plus no onion rings had arrived with order either at this point we tried to get service which seem to take forever eventually we were attended to and waiter re ordered chips for us and did say sorry for this happening. I cert feel this shouldn’t have happened I dine with friends many times at the red lion Bispham Beefeater the standards there 5 star rating absolutely fantastic service well looked after and food is amazing so I certainly feel Scunthorpe Anchor Beefeater needs to look at this and address this so diners in the future don’t have a similar experience as myself and friend did.
