Carters Champagne Bar and Grill in Harrogate

Was really looking forward to trying the restaurant as the hotel is majestic as called. Wonderful location, too. They were not that busy but only had two people working. When I arrived at the hostess stand there was no one there and no one in the dining area. I had to wait at least five minutes for someone to seat me. And, with an almost empty restaurant I was seated right next to a table of five. I asked to move and she said the other tables were not set. I asked several questions about the specials and the menu but she only came back with one answer. I ordered anyway as it was getting late (8 pm). The soup was okay but for a seasonal flavored soup I expected more. It was a celery base soup and was quite bland. The main issue was the mussels. I immediately saw that two were not opened so I put them to the side. I then proceeded to find over 8 mussels that had very broken shells. A restaurant should never serve broken mussel shells as you could get sick. They could be dead before cooking. I ate the ones that were okay which was about 60% of the dish. They were a bit dry so I question how fresh they were. No one came back to check on me otherwise I would have said something. They seemed more intent on closing up. I am a business traveler, and it was getting late. I just wanted to have a quick meal and go to my room after a long day. When I was finally able to flag someone down to get the bill I showed them the problem. When asked why I waited to tell them I said I just wanted to finish up quickly, no one was around, and I am also always leery about sending food back as I have heard stories about the chef getting mad and tampering with the food. He apologized and said he would tell the chef. If I wanted to come back tomorrow, he would give me concierge service. Not ever sure what that meant but was not eager to come back. He did not even discount my meal one $1. After sleeping on it I raised it with the hotel manager the next day and got a letter that said we removed your dinner and basically, we are "sorry you felt". Not fully acknowledging that they should not have served so many mussels with broken shells. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Excellent service and staff! Stayed here for a girls weekend and ate in Carter restaurant for Dinner and afternoon tea the next day - served by Lucy and Andy who were fabulous and very welcoming. At an extremely busy breakfast service Sunday am we were helped by Thomas who was also excellent and very helpful. It makes such a different to the experience when you stay somewhere and all the staff appear genuinely interested and happy to ensure you have an enjoyable time. From Lily who greeted us at reception to the restaurant staff, Lucy, Andy and Thomas to the housekeeping porter( sorry missed his name) all were first class! Well done to them and to Hilton for ensuring your staff give customers the best UEX they can. Would highly recommend staying here, staff and facilities top notch! Will definitely be back. 👏 🙌🤩

You might be used to good food, but fine dining with excellent service, lovely wait staff and an adaptive chef who responds to your needs? That’s pretty rare. We had superb food - great flavours with good quality ingredients, delicious sauces and beautiful presentation - and the most attentive and friendly service we’ve had this century.

We came here after being recommended.I don't know if the chef changed but it wasn't even average.Small portion of roast beef Roast potatoes so over cooked they were black and should never been sent out of the kitchen.Parsnips and carrots hard and dry kale was cold the cauliflower cheese had no sauce whatsoever. We had a prawn cocktail starter that would have been sent back in the 1950's Really poor content and presentation. We certainly wouldn't be going back A waste of money.

The quality of the food is simply poor. We ordered a double patty burger for £19, the patty tasted extremely off and like it was in a £1 fast food restaurant, quality was shocking. I would not recommend this place, they need to improve.

Really nice restaurant in terms of decor and service but unfortunately the food was very hit and miss. We shared a seafood platter to start which was nice but expensive for what came with it, would have expected more than two tiny pieces of bread to go with it. My wife ordered the shepherds pie for a main which was good although again a small portion and perhaps a little over salted. I originally ordered the butternut squash risotto. Unfortunately it came soggy and the consistency of wet porridge. The butternut squash was tasteless and no amount of pepper was able to recover the dish. Had to return this and went with a steak instead as it seemed like a safer option and this was tasty. We went for the cheese board which was again a mixed bag. The cheddar was bland and rubbery. The blue cheese had an unpleasant acidic aftertaste. The goats cheese and soft brie-style cheese were conversely very nice! Lots of room for improvement.

The restaurant and service were excellent. The starter calamari and king prawns was delicious however I ordered fish and chips for main, fish was delicious but the amount of chips was disappointing. We were there on a spa weekend which included a £25 meal allowance so I thought that was why the portions were small for us? Not a good dish for someone who is hungry

Came for dinner one night during our stay at the hotel and would definitely recommend. Enjoyed the tasteful interior and the classy ambience of the restaurant. Tables nicely spaced out, and the staff seemed to be seating people apart so felt spacious. Good wine list and reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant. Very extensive impressive bar and the cocktails at other tables looked to a good standard. Food of a very good quality and surprisingly filling - we enjoyed all 3 courses thoroughly. The crispy egg on the asparagus starter was a surprising standout. Great dessert selection too. Staff and service very good, lots of smiles. Food service and clearing of tables very quick. Our waiter especially (Lamek? apologies if incorrect spelling!) was excellent - very pleasant, attentive and efficient.

Shocking service! Waited an hour for our main course to be told it had been given to the wrong table and they were making it again. We were offered 10% off and our 2 cokes taken off the bill. Disappointed doesn’t cover it

We stayed at the hotel and received the Chateaubriand dinner as part of our stay. Our waitress Emma was lovely. So friendly and keen to provide an excellent service. Our sommelier was also very helpful and provided a recommendation on wine [wine of the week] that was very competitively priced. The steak was cooked perfectly and the extra side of the cauliflower cheese with black truffle was delicious. A wonderful treat as part of our Harrogate mini break - I heartily recommend.

Great restaurant in a magnificent hotel. We chose to eat at Carters as staying in the hotel. From arrival at the restaurant to us leaving we were made to feel special, our waiter Lambeck (apologies if I have spelled that wrong) is a real credit to the food and beverage team, offering outstanding service that added to the enjoyment of our evening. The food, menu choices and quality was fabulous. Compliments to the kitchen team for producing one of the best meals we have had in a long while. Overall we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Carters and will definitely return. Thank you all.

Stayed overnight and had the Chateaubriand dinner for two. Can honestly say it was faultless, the restaurant comfort, decor, service (attentive but not intrusive and definitely not rushed ) and quality of food all excellent. Had the ham hock starter which was equally delicious and the steak was just like cutting through butter, was so well cooked . Good choice of sauces and sides to choose from too. Would 100% definitely recommend.

Lovely restaurant, great food. Mussels for starter was lovely with a garlicky sauce. The trout for the main meal was lovely on a bed of linguine.

Absolutely terrible meal and exceptionally poor service. We were greeted by staff avoiding eye contact and left standing far too long prior to being seated. Once we managed to order we were told the chef didn’t like swapping out side dishes and we should just be happy with the way our steaks were presented. All I asked for was some truffle & Parmesan fries but this request was denied. I ordered a medium rib eye and was presented with a well done sirloin. Not even the correct cut of meat??? Let alone cooked the way I ordered. Kids food was terrible as we ordered bangers and mash with garden peas. No peas offered and the mash has cabbage/carrots/ and various other elements that showed no resemblance to a potato!! We got up and left immediately without asking for the bill. We were then accosted by a waitress with laddered tights to pay the bill. We obviously then showed our annoyance and said we would only pay for the wine as the other dishes were atrocious. A horrific experience. Avoid this restaurant at all costs.

Stayed here for a two day spa trip for our anniversary. The chateaubriand meal was included in the deal.It was the best steak we'd ever tasted,we had to wait a while as we like it well done,but worth waiting for.

Dinner itself was very nice, the side of seasonal greens was just cabbage, The brandy pate was quite tasty if somewhat small served with a slice of dry toast, When I asked for butter i was brought 1 square! Nothing serious wouldn’t stop me going again.

me and my boyfriend came for a meal here for our birthday, mariia was looking after us and was brilliant :) she was very friendly and helped us with recommendations and explained the menu well!

Thank you to all the amazing staff at Carters for indulging us in a superb Cream Tea. Excellent service, fresh delicious food & great value for money.

venue itself is lovely and done really well, seated quickly. food took over an hour to arrive and when it did come was missing items that were listed on the menu and was only lukewarm. desserts took over half an hour to arrive and at no time during this was a wait time for any part of the meal mentioned by staff.

Lovely afternoon tea, more than enough for both of us, welcoming attentive staff especially Tina in the restaurant. The reception staff were also excellent. We shall definitely be returning. Highly recommended

I can not thank the two young ladies who served us for our Afternoon Tea yesterday. Their service, professionalism, friendliness made the experience memorable. Great ambience, atmosphere, impressive decor & delicious Afternoon Tea. Overwhelmed with the stunning hotel & returning for a Luxury Break at the hotel later this year.

Very nice decor and feel of restaurant - a lot of potential. Good cocktails on menu. Sadly it is bad value for money - for the price of items on the menu, food was nowhere near the quality it should be. Also service was very slow, possibly understaffed as restaurant wasn’t busy but within an hour we had only received our starter (which was missing elements from its description on the menu). Other diners nearby also had similar issues. However, staff recognised the issues which was reflected in the bill - cost of some food elements taken off to make up for quality and slow service. Particular thanks to the manager Will whoever was very reasonable and understanding about our experience. If staying here, there are many other options to explore in Harrogate centre Itself instead.

We had a meal here as part of our spa package and must say it was faultless. Ishmayl was superb, polite and attentive and sorted our dietary needs. The waitress Lucy was pleasant and polite. Food was lovely with no issues coming out on time. Cant wait for the next one.

This was a terrific meal and some first class service. We ate here on our first night in Harrogate, and it a great introduction to the town. My wife has a chicken dish and I had a roast aubergine with stewed veg. Both were excellent....

I had mussels for starters, partner had King prawn pil pil. Perfect amount of mussels, i think some restaurants can go overboard with the amount and you end up with a bucket full. This was spot on, perfect amount for a starter, nice tasty sauce,...

We really enjoyed our food, plenty with lots of flavour. The staff were attentive. It was a little quiet but I guess that's suited to some. Thank you for a lovely meal!

We had to preorder for a party which is understandable, however they changed the menu 2 days before and most of us had to change our order. The prices had gone up too though which wasn't great. Truffle linguine/fries didn't really taste of truffle but...

Can't fault the restaurant location which is in the Majestic Hilton Hotel - the decor and setting in this beautiful hotel are very elegant but also very comfortable. The bar for pre-dinner drinks is also outstanding in terms of looks and feel. Only visited once...

Went for dinner to celebrate my son’s birthday, Food was lovely I had Mussels followed by a trio of lamb all very tasty , with great service from Happiness and Lucy , thanks to Mohamed for the birthday table and making us all feel special...

Enjoyed a lovely evening with tasty food at Carters. Great ambiance in the restaurant, courtesy of Sam, who gave us perfect service. The restaurant had a really nice feel. The food came out quickly even though it was busy. Would definitely recommend

6 guests ate at 730 - food was very nice and served at a good pace. Starters arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. Steaks were cooked well and food was good quality for the price charged. I would certainly eat there again if i didn't...

Difficult to know where to pitch this review depending on your mood. It is clear that in Carter's Champagne bar and restaurant there's a large number of new recruits we had an 20:15 table service was slow to the point where we waited 80 minutes...

Waited 1hr 40 mins for starters. Polite staff offered free round of drinks as apology. Food both burnt and lukewarm which is an achievement. Chips inedible
