This pub does not serve food. Visited on Tuesday evening prior to theatre based on Trip Advisor. Had to hint around for someone to go.

Perhaps the bar staff should ask for age ID before we paid for our drinks. My 20 year old son had proof of age on his phone, which wasn't accepted. I understand that under age drinking is a problem for landlords but for goodness sake don't charge for the drinks before refusal!!

I was down on business and looking to watch a Scottish champions league match which co-incided with Manchester City playing, the bar staff allocated us a tv specifically for our game, reserved a tabe for us beside our tv and were quite simply superstars all night, helpful, friendly, they just couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome and helped make it a great night (apart from the final football score). I can't recommend this place highly enough!!!

We went for something to eat and drink food disgusting lukewarm and bland. Service was not good was made to feel unwelcome especially by the landlord really BAD ATTITUDE. The place in my opinion needs a deep clean as it had a smell to it and also the toilets were filthy. We will not be visiting it again there are too good pubs and eating establishments in the area to put up with sub standard food and service.

Came into Wilmslow with several friends that were playing golf at a nearby course, I very rarely feel the need to leave reviews but the Carters Arms left me feeling I really must! On arrival the welcome into the bar was reasonable for a group of middle aged golfers. The bar was quiet with a few locals in who made us feel welcome. We had a few beers and a game of pool. Before I slate the place I'd just like to give massive praise to the young girl behind the bar (unfortunately I forget her name) who seemed to be manning the whole bar without any help from management, or indeed anyone else at all! She was delightful and did her best to serve twenty guys plus the people already in the bar. What really miffed us was the total lack of supporting staff and at one point a young girl professing herself at the birthday girl (18!) in a DRESSING GOWN actually came behind the bar, helping herself to drinks and even taking money from the till!! I sit here back in my hotel room thinking did this really happen? I'm sure some of my party will leave similar reviews as they were equally as disgusted at our stay at the Carters Arms!

The Carters has never been a great pub for food in recent years and when we saw the ‘Mwah - fresh not frozen’ sign we didn’t hold much hope, but another place we wanted to go to in Wilmslow was fully booked so we gave it ago. The menu is a bit random but they’re offering food they can do well, rather than some places that offer everything but none of it is particularly great. There’s a beef or chicken burger, ribs, a couple of steak and pasta options, pizzas, sides and deserts. I got chatting to the chef, Tom, at the bar and could immediately sense how passionate he is to make this work by putting on good quality, fresh food. He said his background is in street/market food - it sounds like he has completely refurbished the kitchen, installing a special oven and wood fire pizza oven outside. He seemed happy to cater for anything we wanted and as soon as I mentioned a small dietary requirement he not only adapted his recommendations but still remembered it when we spoke again after the meal. For me he suggested a chicken and beef burger that isn’t on the menu (I was hungry!) and it came with homemade chips - he said he learned to make them from his grandad and they’re superb - and salad. Instead of chips you can have a ‘tornado potato’ - another of Tom’s concoctions - and you can get veg instead of the salad. All for £8. It’s even cheaper if you have the burger without sides or one patty instead of two. The rest of the menu is similarly priced, other than the Tomahawk steak, which had sold out, and the enormous sharing pizza, which needs to be ordered 24 hours in advance. We were really struck by how Tom took it upon himself to talk us through what we would be getting, explaining the burger is made from finely chopped rump steak, some mince, salt and pepper, and the chicken (whether burger or on a pizza) is fresh roast chicken, and he uses the same company as Wood Fire Smoke for the pizza dough so it arrives fresh rather than from frozen like most chain restaurants. He also rustled up some sauces on the spot for us to try that he thought would compliment the food. It all tasted sublime, any leftovers Tom will box up to take home, and you can order food for collection (not sure about delivery). Hopefully he’s here to stay because it’s a great little addition to the Wilmslow food scene and I can see it being very popular.

First time visit with friends from our social Group for our monthly Pool Night. As our regular pub had closed down recently, our organiser had managed to get us into here at short notice. Our evening always starts with something to eat, which we'd booked at the other pub. However the management here had agreed to allow us to use the pub on a Saturday night, even though there were 24 of us, and provide the same food we'd booked elsewhere. Unfortunately although the Lasagne my wife and I had tasted OK, the portions were quite small served with half a piece of the smallest imaginable garlic bread. WE were also given a portion of very rich chocolate cake which we only part ate. At £7.50 pp not great value. Also the dining area was quite cramped, though I suppose that we were just grateful of being accommodated at short notice. Despite the pub being small and a bit dated in a quiet backwater of Wilmslow, they still charged Central Wilmslow prices at the bar!! Being a non drinker, I ordered a very weak Shandy, 90% of which was lemonade, yet was still charged £3.90 and my wifes' medium sized house red was £5 50. At least the management accepted my complaint of small portions and supplied a dish of fries free. Nevertheless we enjoyed our Pool evening, on albeit a small sized table and found the staff quite accommodating towards us. Won't be in a hurry to go back though.

I visited here last week with my mum for the afternoon tea that was advertised and it exceeded both our expectations. The staff are lovely, friendly and efficient. The quality and quantity of food was fantastic and I could not recommend enough. The presentation of the afternoon tea was outstanding and the picnic bench detail was a beautiful touch. We were continuously looked after and asked if we required more refreshments in which they were very reasonably priced. We ended up staying longer than we had anticipated due to us enjoying ourselves and it not breaking the bank. Upon leaving a staff member kindly told us that if we wished to visit again for afternoon tea to phone them and he would apply a discount for us. However, we always planned to visit again, discount or not. Although we did not have a roast dinner, it looked amazing and we will be returning here for this soon! Thank you to all the staff here :-)

One of the highlights of 2016 was stumbling across this pub. Until then my wife and I tended to stick to the Wilmslow centre area, this one is a little tucked away from the usual thoroughfare of Wilmslow high street. However it's worth the excursion away, we've spent many Friday evenings settled in this warm and welcoming pub. There's no fault I could mention with this place; the staff & owners do deserve special mention, they are some of the most genuinely welcoming, warm and friendly people I've had the pleasure to meet. The pub has a local feel to it, but from our very first visit we were made to feel like regulars. The food is excellent, serving an array of delicious Pieminster Pies with all the trimmings. The ale, cider and wine selection is also superb, with guest ales rotating to keep things interesting, while firm favourites (such as the Longhorn IPA) are steadfast and reliable in their availability.Wednesday night quiz is another highlight, with a random draw prize at the end of the night to make sure it's always worth a punt even if your team isn't the strongest! They also have a range of live music to suit all tastes. All in all, I'd recommend this pub to anyone, whether you're a one-off visitor to Wilmslow, or looking for a regular haunt.

I have been familiar with the Carters for about 40 years and have seen it through many transformations. I must say that I hope it remains as is. The pub was warm and welcoming. The staff are friendly and helpful. The menu is exactly what a pub menu should be - good pies, chips(including sweet potato), sausage rolls, sandwiches. The choice of 3 real ales was excellent, The Black Sheep was our favourite - if you had Old Peculiar I would move in!The pub is decorated for Christmas and has a lovely cosy and festive feel - very tasteful and traditional. We had the pie, mash and peas. It was really good, everything very hot too. Pies were packed full. It comes with separate hot gravy. There is a good selection of pies, my only suggestion is that there could be a vegan pie - there is a vegetarian pie but it has goat's cheeses which I hate and of course vegans can't have. Also a vegan sandwich option would be perfect :)They also have mulled wine and mince pies (home made, packed full and delicious). Teas and coffee and cakes (all home made). First visit on a non descript Monday night in November. A few folk in, but quite quiet. The place is well decorated, I liked the spoof thirties style travel poster pictures e.g. ' Wilmslow - anyone for creative accounting' rather than anyone for tennis.I wanted a decent pint and a simple meal. I got a decent pint and a simple meal and it's good value. So next time I want those things I'll come back....

We visited on a Sunday lunch time, it was very quiet which did give me some concern. I had nothing to worry about the staff were very friendly and attentive, the menu was simple, which made the choice easy. The pies were great clean , plates all round for all ages 9 to 77. A good well kept beer too

Amazing murder mystery evening put together by the carters arms. This pub has hugely improved with the new owners. The pub now fits in with the local area, the new owners have done it proud. Great grub, friendly staff, fair priced drinks. Keep up the good work !

The carters over the years have changed hands so many times, with different range of beers and foods, I have to say the new owners have got something right as the drinks and foods are excellent! Helpful and friendly staff, waiting time for average, food was 10/10 would recommend!

The Carters Arms has the feel of an old-fashioned pub but with modern decor. Real family atmosphere. The only food is pies which are really good. It's a great pub to walk to with your dog which is welcome as long as well behaved.

The Carter's Arms is a little way out of the town centre in a part of Wilmslow with which I was not familiar. It is an old pub but has been refurbished to a high standard whilst retaining its pub feel. The menu is fairly limited but what there is is done very well indeed. We had the pie, mash and peas with gravy and they were delicious. The beer was also in fine fettle. There's also a car park which is good. Highly recommended.

So,mine Carters Arms was taken over and renovated a couple of months ago. We live a couple of hundred yards away and have watched it morph into a really attractive local pub. It's hard to summarise the brilliance of the transformation, quite subtle but now a far more attractive proposition. The link up with Pie Minster is great - simple menu but it just works. Good beer, better cos they had Jennings, one of my favourites from Cumbria. It is really good to have a decent local pub as our closest... And we were in the winning team for the Wednesday pub quiz a few weeks ago too :-)

First found this lovely pub when we stayed in Wilmslow in April, called in at lunch time quiet but only just redecorated and not long been open again. No food on when we were there but came back in July and called in on the Saturday afternoon, what a difference the pub was full people inside more in the lovely beer garden as the weather was so warm, had a couple of pints I had the cider which was very nice my partner tried the ales one of his hobbies very good. Decided to come back at the night time to try the pies so glad we did they were gorgeous even had some lovely cake and ice cream after, very nice landlady and friendly locals, just wish we lived nearer be in there every weekend can't wait for another weekend in Wilmslow to try some more pie yum yum .

Fabulous place. Nothing is too much trouble for Anna, Mikey and their staff team. The choice of drinks is great whether it's ales, wine, spirits or newly added cocktails. The menu is recently extended to offer salads and lighter dishes too. They even offer the option to buy dinner for your dog with the proceeds donated to doggy charity. The front terrace is beautiful with flowers galore. Well done guys - this place is a roaring success.

Visited this lovely pub to be greeted with a very pleasant and helpful girl behind the bar. We opted for the moo pieminster with mash peas and gravy. It was piping hot and the nicest pies we have ever tasted. The man who brought out our meals was very helpful too. We will definitely recommend this place and will definitely return. Very impressed!

We visited this through Groupon and had a pie and mash meal for four including a pint of cask ale. It was very nice, the meal was lovely and supplied via a Pieminister franchise within the pub. The quality of the pies was fantastic with plenty of choice, lovely veggie options and gravy on the side which I prefer. The beer was excellent with three real ales on the bar which is my particular vice. None of the beers were exactly as I prefer but the two we tried were excellent anyway and good to get out of the comfort zone. This pub has been converted from a street corner boozer to somewhere nice to spend an evening without loss of character. Everything is neat and clean and a credit to the staff.Plenty of games are available to customers while they wait, and very friendly land lord and lady with lots of plans for the future

With it's constantly changing ale selection, which is always perfectly kept, and it's delicious Pieminster menu, the Carters Arms has come on leaps and bounds since the new landlords took over not 3 months ago. Highlight has to be the terrace, which has been given a floral make over and it looks stunning, and is a perfect sun trap after work. If you're going, highly recommend the Tipsy Chicken pie as a Mothership, but it's not for the faint hearted!

We purchased a Groupon deal for the Carter Arms and decided to use it for lunch one day last week. The pub was easy to find and the member of staff who served us was very knowledgeable about the products on offer i.e the pies and the ales. We decided on an ale after she told us about each one and then selected a pie from the menu. One of us is a vegetarian and the other not but certainly had a few to choose from. The pies arrived with all the trimmings and we can only rave about them they were so good.We finished off with sticky toffee pudding and a coffee.A perfect lunch though the portions were enormous it should have been dinner....

This review is after our second visit.Like with must deals you find on groupon, you never can be that sure as to what you're going to get, but we liked this place that much we went back for seconds. The food served is lovely, good and wholesome (not sure what the bad reviews are on about) you have a choice of pies and a choice as to how you want them serving. The menu is simple and the place doesn't profess to be anything it's not.The staff are very friendly, and try to help where possible. The times that we have been, the beer has always been good.We also liked this place enough to recommend it to our family and friends

What a shame that a pub in a good location thinks it's okay to sell cheap, awful pies and that's all. We read the reviews and thought we'd give it a go. I asked if a pie had peppers in and three members of staff were clueless and said he'd go read the packaging. Awful. The food then came out and was honestly terrible. Tasteless, clearly had just been blasted in a microwave. On par, if not worse, with a cheap value microwave meal. Atmosphere in the pub was dull and flat too. Safe to say we won't be returning. So many other great places to try. The Wizard in Nether Alderley, Anthology and Coach & Four in Wilmslow - I recommend these.

Went here yesterday on a Groupon deal, never heard of the pub before so didn't know what to expect. Pleasantly surprised as we walked in to a clean well decorated pub, a lovely outside seating area, nice hosts and a great menu. Both pies were excellent, and to be able to sit outside in the sunshine surrounded by hanging baskets was lovely (there were even fresh flowers on the tables). If these are new owners of the pub, good luck to them, it really is a credit to them and somewhere we will definitely return to.

The new owners of the Carters are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. We went for pie and stayed for the quiz. We liked the fact it started on time and the questions were good. The food was very good we both had the mothership which was pie, peas, mash, gravy and fried onions and cheese. The pie was the Deer Stalker, it had lots of meat in it. We followed with desert, sticky toffee pudding and a lemon tart both served with ice cream. Both were lovely. We have returned tonight to try a different pie and hopefully win the quiz again. We won a £10 voucher to spend in the pub.Good times were had by all.

The new landlords, Anna and Mikey, have done a fab job of reinventing this place and it has a very homely feel in contemporary decor. I went along for their opening weekend and again more recently for their pie menu preview. They have won the pie minister contract for Wilmslow and it's the perfect place to stop by for a pie and a pint! Definitely go for the Mothership - pie, mash, gravy (on the side), peas and topped with crispy shallots and cheddar cheese! There is also the option of home made coleslaw. My only regret was that I was so full that I just couldn't manage sampling the dessert menu, so I'll just have to go back! On the opening weekend I did sample a slice of homemade lemon drizzle cake - divine! And if you're driving, they have a good range of soft drinks including slightly more unusual J20s and fruity fusions. They now do live music on Saturdays and a quiz night on Wednesdays so plenty of reasons to return...and sample the desserts!Anna and Mikey are very friendly and welcoming and chat to all their customers, and I'm sure they can't wait for you to stop by :)

We used to regularly walk to Miola for a coffee and can’t believe how it has changed. Outside is a complete dump with tatty pieces of furniture up for sale at ridiculous prices . The elephant and giraffe which have been there for years are still for sale at a ridiculous price. Toilet was filthy with no toilet paper. Chose to sit outside as had children with us and tables were tatty and dirty. The food was overpriced and mediocre. Bacon sandwich with virtually no bacon. Peanut butter on toast which was slimy and greasy. Children took one look and didn’t touch it and can’t say I blamed them. It is so sad as Miola used to be such a lovely place to go to. Can only assume that with Holmes Chapel closing its on the cards that Sandbach will close as well. So disappointing and what a waste of money !
