Carriages Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

PLEASE READ BEFORE COMING HERE Where to start… Awful, just dreadful. We lost our space in the carvery queue as they don’t tell you until you’re about to get your meat that you have to pay first and then rejoin the queue. When we finally got our meat, it was ONE small stingy piece of dry beef, when we asked for a vegetarian option, we were told that we should try getting our own food if we want to be picky. We made a remark of amazement about how long this place has been open and the woman behind the counter began to argue in a raised voice about how she had been here longer than what we said the garden centre has been open for. A member of our group was incredibly panic-enduced and overwhelmed at how harsh and busy the whole environment was which is absolutely awful for us. There was also a man who nearly fell over on the step as the wheelchair ramp was so steep. After getting through the sticky situation that was the queue; we sat down. The only thing thicker than the set Coca Cola on the table was the salty gravy. Three choices of horrid veg and some sort of potato thing. Shame as I have been coming here since I was in the womb. We raised this issue and was told that a manager would come and see us at our table to sort it out. Nothing, no other interactions from any staff. The one star I technically have to give goes to the poor cleaners who received all the beef (not like there was any) from angry customers.

We arrived in a small group of 3 adults and 3 children at approx 1ish and was met with 1 menu at the door (fair enough if it's been busy) but then told when ordering that there's barely anything left to order. This seems odd as surely 1pm isn't too late for lunch? The food arrived and the chips were great however the scotch egg was dry and not appetising. The panini I had was adequate but nothing to write home about. Shame really as I spent over £20 in total. The service was only saved by a lovely younger lady at the drinks counter who seemed more cheerful than her order station counterparts! Would steer clear unless all I want is chips!

Went to Carriages yesterday for breakfast on the bank holiday and had the breakfast bap with bacon and sausage. The sausages were cooked to perfection! The food was amazing and is well catered to people with dietary needs (one of our party has a gluten intolerance, and they ensured that the intolerance was well catered for). Very bubbly staff. Would recommend to go just for the breakfast.

No cauliflower cheese ! Had always loved their carvery. My mother doesn't like red cabbage her choice I suppose, so only had brocoli & carrots. £15.95 didn't represent good value I thought

This is the third time we have visited Carriages at Trelawney garden centre, we had a full English, ( Cornish ) breakfast. To say it was simply sensational, great value and served by the most attentive, hard working staff I have ever encountered. So we have had a hat trick visit to Carriages, Breakfast, Carvery for Lunch, (dinner, if you're northern, like me.) and a cream tea for afternoon tea. Simply the best experience ever. Great team too, they deserve a special thanks. Do not miss 😃👍

We had friends visiting, so we thought we would come back here as we have been numerous times and the food has always been good. Unfortunately, not on this occasion. The menu has a good choice as 2 guests had dietary restrictions. The food was overall poor quality, and it was just very disappointing.

Dated menu. Food is far below average compared to other garden centres in the area, price did not reflect the poor quality. We regularly visit this garden centre. But not often the cafe. Thought we’d give it a try. First and last visit. Jacket potato’s are clearly microwaved. Soggy skins and moderately cold. Topped with cold beans. Sausage roll was not fresh. Heavily processed. Incorrect Quiche served to a vegetarian. Replacement was okay though. Cakes and scones were nice. However again didn’t taste fresh. Will not use again.

Good food, good services. The restaurant is within the garden centre.

Nice selection of food to choose from, need to coordinate the drinks and the food, drinks come out quickly and I usually finished it before the food comes out. It would be nice to have them together.

Fantastic place for understanding food intolerances and allergies. The chicken is normally cooked in thyme and garlic but I'm intolerant to garlic so the chef cooked me a separate piece. I'm intolerant to various vegetables so he told me all the vegetables on offer for the carvery. It made such a nice change for me to feel like I wasn't a nuisance. He completely understood and it made me feel very valued. Thank you so much.

Popped in for lunch as the previous place we tried had 1 and a half hour wait. We were politely informed there was about a 50 minute wait for food here but we decided to order anyway. In the meantime we got our drinks and some of us had a look around the garden centre. The food arrived and was definitely worth the wait. The staff were so friendly and they apologised for the time it took to get the food to us as they were short staffed. As it was the first time visiting, we did get a little lost trying to find the restaurant itself!

Absolutely shocked by the roast dinner we had here today , way over priced , £45 for 2 extremely small roasts , a bowl of chips and a child's pizza and chips , the pizza was warm , doughy and soggy base , granddaughter said yuk and left it my roast was shocking , 1 carrot , 1 sprig of overcooked broccoli, and the cauliflower cheese was just mush pure liquid with the odd tiny dot of cauliflower 1 small jug of gravy between 2 adults ???? 2 potato's, NOT roasties just soggy potato with 1 side darker .. NEVER AGAIN.. DO NOT EAT HERE .. STAFF WERE WONDERFUL THE STAR IS FOR THEM

The garden centre itself is great. Lots of variety and good quality products. Very friendly service in the Carriages Restaurant with a stunning lemon meringue pie with some clotted cream.

Cold, incredibly overpriced, tasteless food. Some of which was completely inedible. Abrupt hostessing and waitressing staff, with the exception of the younger 2. I would not recommend this place to anyone and will not return. Carriages, you need to sort your place out.

Lovely lunch, great staff, felt very Covid-19 safe.

Went in for lunch of a sandwich and chips. When we walked in we walked past about 5 unclean tables with dirty dishes. When we left there were the same five plus more. Defrosted bread for the sandwiches and no taste to the filling. Chips were over cooked looking like they had been dunked about 7 times in a fryer. The manager asked for our payment while we were still eating. Drinks, latte was milk with a dash of coffee (yes I know that's how its made) Cappuccino was so unbelievably bitter. Won't be returning

Took 4 attempts for the correct breakfast and then when it came beans were cold sausages were only just warm. The mushrooms were burnt and the potatoes were hard. It only gets a 1 star on the fact of how nice the staff were.
