Really well stocked bar, amazing cocktails, love the historical pictures on the walls. I was shocked to see how beautifully finished the rooms are, can’t imagine there would be anywhere else in this league in Shropshire!

Fantastic stay from Start to finish. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and served out of hours after a long journey from the North East. The room was very clean and furnishings and fittings were to a high standard. The bed was very comfortable and the full English breakfast is highly recommended. Overall great value for money and an experience which added to a great wedding !

What a gem of a place. Tucked away but a beautiful venue, fabulous cocktails and superb staff. We were beautifully looked after from the moment we arrived, nothing too much trouble. The cocktails were all incredible (we tried quite a few but hadnt even made a small dent in the extensive list) and we were made to feel very important by the attentive and efficient staff. Without hesitation i would recommend this bar.

Stayed on Saturday 10/11 with family; we had 3 rooms and found eat to be beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The hotel has only 7 bedrooms, a cosy dining room and a very smart bar; I would say it's a boutique style hotel. We almost cancelled due to other comments regarding noise; there were 5 people in our party and we all slept very well in the comfortable beds. The linen, crockery etc were of a high standard and everything was spotless. Staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was freshly made to order starting with a lovely fresh fruit salad ; there was plenty of choice and portions were generous. I would definitely stay here again.

My sister and I decided to spend the day at Wellington and have our lunch there. Carriages is a local hotel, cocktail bar, restaurant and was one of the places advertised on the Gourmet Society website so we decided to give it a try. As soon as we arrived we knew we had made the right choice. We were greeted warmly by Val who told us that the restaurant was only serving evening meals as the chef didn't arrive until 4pm but if we wanted she could make us some lunch. We said we would like a ploughmans and she said that wasn't a problem. Wow what a ploughmans - one of the best we have ever had. The ploughmans consisted of three different cheeses, ham, sausage rolls, salad and fresh crusty bread. Two types of pickles and some beetroot were served in lovely separate dishes and she even bought us a portion of chips each. She even provided us with a cheese knife. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and just managed to finish it as it was so filling. When we asked for the bill we were really surprised how reasonable the prices were even with the 25 per cent discount. Carriages provide evening meals, afternoon teas, Sunday lunches and have a Christmas fayre menu and we will certainly be back to try one of these. James has even promised to make us both a pina colada. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates good conversation, warm hospitality, fantastic food and service and excellent value for money.

I explained that we had booked earlier that day and the booking had been accepted without question. The polite chap behind the bar said that shouldn't have happened as they had no chef. The staff were so friendly - and James makes unreal cocktails! Even though we had to wait for midday for him to arrive, it was well worth it! We both had a full English (bacon, eggs, sausage, black pudding, hash brown, mushrooms, tomato and toast) with hot drinks and juice. All this for under tenner each! The portions were huge and everything was cooked to perfection. Really lovely chilled out and leisurely morning and nothing was ever too much trouble. MORE AT TripAdvisor

Ok, we found Carriages by accident after walking around the town centre hunting out somewhere nice to eat on a Saturday evening. We found ourselves opposite the entrance to Wellington Station opposite a real spit and sawdust pub (used to be a hotel I think) a real karzy, then noticed a sign for Carriages cocktail bar on the top of the hotel roof. After finding some concrete steps at the side of the toilet, sorry, pub, we walked up and thought we were in an alley, but there was the door to Carriages. We walked in and were immediately impressed with the layout, all LED's and finery, so we decided this could be the place to take the ladies for the evening to dine out. We ordered a few drinks, spoke to the barman (after looking at the menu, scrummy we all thought) and booked a table for 6. Now, this is not the largest of cocktail bars, a few tables and chairs and then it is full, standing room only in the bar/drinking area. We had a mooch around the dining area, table for 11 and a table for 6, happy days, very clean and funky, not too shabby for the likes of us, mission complete !!So, we decided to wind up the ladies by walking them to the door of the ground floor toilet, again, sorry, the hotel pub, and the looks on their faces were one of horror, until we directed them to the side steps and to climb up, avoiding what looked like puddles of rain, but us blokes knew they were from gentlemen relieving themselves as they were probably banned from the crap-hole, whoops, there I go again, the hotel. So, we arrived, ordered drinks blah blah blah, got called for our table, we had booked the table for 8pm, we got called at 8:30pm, as son as we sat down the lovely waitress told us as the chef was busy with the other 11 servings (?????) we would probably get our food around 9:30ish. Ok we thought, not a problem, so lets order. We all ordered the Sea Bass etc etc, 5 mins later waitress came back to tell us all no Sea Bass available !!!! So after a few grumbles, we all chose the chicken. Ok, so 10 mins later we asked the waitress who was rushed off her feet serving 1 table (!!!) can we have some bread please as we are hank marvin !! 10 mins later the waitress came back, a look of dread on her face to inform us "sorry, the chef s busy and cannot do any bread!!!!" Jeez, really !!!! Well you go and cut some bread Princess, whack it into a basket and throw it at us !!Ok, the food when we got it was outstanding, compliments to the chef, he didn't rush to get all his orders out (no he didn't) but the food was really top notch. I am not a lover of boring chicken, but this was really really tasty and presentation with the other accompaniments was superb.Would I go again, YES, would I recommend Carriages to eat and drink, YES, BUT, make sure they have the food you want before committing to order, even before you are seated, make sure or it will be too late.Note to owner. I went outside for a ciggie between courses and spoke to a few locals who use your establishment regularly, this conversation took place after they had to come back out as the bar was packed out with about 15 people !!! The guy said that he loved the place but hated the steps to the building, it makes his partner shudder to walk past the karzy of a pub downstairs with drunk kids spilling out of the pub and shouting and screaming. So Mr Proprietor, save your pennies, get a loan, do what you need to do and get yourself a much better location !!! You nearly have everything right but nothing will be better than for your clients, who have money in their pocket to give to you, than to walk up a urine infested set of steps alongside a manky pub that needs to be closed down. Work on your location and your clientele will treble and get another chef to help out, as we could have easily have walked out and my wonderful friend who settled the bill spent over £480 with you................not a fantastic amount but you do need to have a good look at your business model :-)

I went to Carriages with my brother who lives local and other members of our family in October. Despite having booked a table for a meal when we arrived the place was full and our table wasn't ready. There was no where to sit and we were just stood around like lemons. My daughter asked for a free drink for us all to help us while we waited - they said 'yes of course' then did nothing. After about 5 minutes we left feeling very disappointed and with no idea whether the food was any good as we didn't get any!Fast forward to last Friday. Just 3 of us this time, my brother had booked again without telling me and was slightly sheepish in saying, 'let's give it another go'. I'm so glad we did. It was much quieter than our previous visit and we were taken straight to our table. Service was friendly and efficient and we had a bit of banter and a laugh with all the staff. The piece de resistance though was the food - absolutely fabulous!!We all had a tapas dish to start then we all had a main course and a pudding. Firstly I don't often eat 3 course meals and this was on top of a fish and chip lunch so it must have been good!! Actually it was some of the best food I've tasted. All cooked from fresh, simple but great ingredients cooked to perfection. We would definitely go back - perhaps would suggest if you go get a table early on, less chance of people hogging the tables if you are second sitters. Also just be careful coming out as there is a incline down to the step that isn't immediately obvious and if you've had one cocktail too many then you could find yourself on the pavement quicker than you planned!Would definitely recommend you go though.

First off, don't expect Carriages to be in a pretty or up-market location; it's not. However, you will forget the location as soon as you walk through the door. This is a small, boutique hotel and when entering the cocktail bar we were blown away by the modern, luxurious décor. To the side is a much larger dining room but this was a miserable wet Tuesday evening so as a table for 4 we only had to share the room with a table for 2 so were able to remain in the cocktail bar area. We were met immediately by James, front of house manager, who showed us to our table and took our coats and took a cocktail order from us all while we scanned the menu as well as the cocktail menu. Order was taken and starters arrived quickly and were delicious. My main was breast of duck that was cooked perfectly (pink and moist) sitting on a bed of wonderful veg. My wife had the veggie option and again delicious (I tried a mouthful). Our friends had the steak and both were cooked to perfection. After that we were quite full but could not resist a sweet. We shared 2 bottles of wine that again was very good quality but reasonably priced.James did all the waiting on. He is one of those unusual people who was exceptionally polite but at the same time friendly. He hovered quietly behind the cocktail bar but like magic was always there when we needed him or to serve our food. A perfect front of house manager. My wife and I live locally in Wellington as do our friends, so we are so pleased to have on our doorstep not only a good restaurant but by far the best restaurant in the whole of Telford. We also had a chance to see the hotel rooms and can state that the exceptionally high standard is maintained throughout. What a find. We will return soon.

If you don't know Wellington (which is I have to confess a rather strange feeling place!) this may prove slightly tricky to find the first time - basically go to the Railway Station and then to the left of the Station Pub there is a flight of stairs and at the top, Carriages is there on the right. It is a reasonably compact cocktail bar with a good selection of drinks and friendly staff. I had to ask if the restaurant was open as I was the only diner. I had very nice scallops for a starter (I don't normally do scallops but I was glad I did) and then a perfectly good steak. The menu is fairly limited but it was all good and the rioja was very drinkable. Unfortunately as there was no one else there the atmosphere was rather non existent. However, there aren't many places in Wellington that aren't Indian food so this is a good choice.

So I wouldn't pay more for a cocktail just to drink here and I certainly wouldn't go for a nice quiet meal with my partner or bring family or party of friends...it's just does not work for me. Sorry. I booked a nights stay with 3 course meal and breakfast for a birthday treat for mum. On arrival my initial impression was not good as the surrounding area was not the picturesque quaint setting I had pictured. We were warmly welcomed my Alex who took our suitcases to our room no.4. Whilst we waited for our double bed to be separated In to twin beds we were offered a complimentary glass of wine and nibbles a very welcomed gesture. He continued his hospitality by sorting out the train times for a trip into Shrewsbury. When we came down for evening meal we were given another complimentary cocktail for mums birthday. Our table was specially laid with candelabras and a helium birthday balloon we felt very special. Our starter of chili king prawns was beautifully presented on a slate slab and tasted delicious. My lamb main again was lovely but unfortunately my mum's steak was a bit chewy and although another one was brought out it was still the same. The staff couldn't have been more apologetic. Our deserts of individual baileys cheesecake and cremè brulee were a tad too sweet for me but my mother polished them both off. We were give more complimentary drinks and I felt for the staff who tried relentlessly to make every effort to ensure our evening was perfect. Our room was lovely pleasant decor and clean comfortable beds. Toiletries were provided but I think two of each would have been better than having to share. The room was very warm and the windows being opened added to the noise from the trains church clock and passing punters. Air conditioning would solve some of these problems and hopefully this will be something that is being looked into for the future. Well done Alex, James Ben Val and the young lady with long blonde hair whos name I failed to get you all do a Stirling job at carriages and are an asset to the hotel.

Stayed over at "Carriages" in Wellington, Telford, what a gorgeous place it was, the rooms are really lovely, staff very friendly the dinner (3 course) was really nice, loads of shops just nearby and market, pubs etc. Such a pity on the saturday night all the lights went out in the hotel, electric board came out, they dug around still hadn;t found the fault next morning, so we unfortunately missed our cooked breakfast!!!! Wuld return to this place.

On walking around Wellington, we saw Carriages lit up and it looked very sophisticated. But it caters for all, with a Bar downstairs and a very swanky cocktail lounge upstairs. We had a couple of drinks in the lounge. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being overly so. It is a shame more towns don't have the same sort of venues.

I was also a member of the party of 10 with Ms Laneyboots. All seemed to be very promising upon arrival, nibbles were brought to our reserved table and we were eager to continue our evening of celebration. The nibbles were delicious and they were spicy and salty, as you would expect. Although when you wait over an hour for a simple Strawberry Daiquiri they tend to leave a nasty taste in your moth, unfortunately so did the service. I believe even the most patient of customers would find that an hours wait for a cocktail in a cocktail bar is rather unacceptable. I too will not be returning and advising my friends to avoid the bar too.

Fantastic food that we were told was locally sourced. It was freshly cooked and there were very good portion sizes

Stayed here before an thought it was lovely. Came back with my child and ordered breakfast. My 2 year old was hungry so was a little noisy (as any baby is whilst hungry). First of all we got told to keep the noise down, then the owner brought the breakfasts out and was rude. He started swearing at us all in front of our children (the [--] was in every sentence he spoke). He was extremely abusive towards us and then ended it by telling us to get the [--] out of his pub. Disgusting behaviour, especially when it was the owner of the place!! So much so, he made me cry and upsey mu child as he was being abusive and shouting me. Disgusted and will never be going back. I would strongly recommend no one uses this establishment

We have visited Carriages on several occasions at different times and have found the service to be consistent. We have also eaten in their restaurant which serves proper English classics. This is a brave venture in these economic times and the owner has not stinted on the quality of the refurbishment. If I have a little personal gripe , I hate paper napkins with a passion- linen please .

I heard about this place and was sceptical; on arrival I was blown away. In a hidden corner of Wellington, discretely placed is a pillar of class known by only a few. Bored of travelling to shrewsbury and Birmingham for a comfortable night with my wife, a few drinks, a meal, but now it is available on my doorstep. They are new and do need to work on some things, but the service is friendly and personal, so I was happy. The drinks, were lovely, and the food was quality. I was impressed with the finish of the interior and even heard another guest exclaim "am I still in Telford!?". I'm very impressed, and so happy about this, Telford is going up the world. I'm going back! The young man showed me a bedroom, and it seemed a very good standard, I have somewhere to put the in-laws!

We visited the grove for Mother’s Day, 6 adults, 1 child. 3 x roast chicken, 2 x 8oz fillet steak, 1 children’s chicken nuggets +chips. My meal (steak) came out and looked great, although my stone wasn’t hot enough to cook my steak, onions and mushrooms, my steak although looked great, tasted horrible. £23 to only be satisfied with the chips! My wife also couldn’t eat the chicken and neither could my father Inlaw, only eating less that half there meals. I wouldn’t go back if I’d not Eaton for a month and was offered a free meal!

Pub recently taking over by an individual who leftt his Dog to rot to death in the back of his previous pub in The Railway Hotel Nantwitch. And the workers are in on it If you give these people your money you are supporting this and becoming a part of the problem! Absolutely vile. Poor pups

I go with my friends here all the time!! The atmosphere is wonderful, the staff are very friendly, and it’s an all-round pleasant place to be. And of course, I must mention Bruno. He’s the goodest boy, always happy to see him there 🐶. 10/10, would recommend.
