Visited 14th February with my wife and 7yr old "train mad" grandson who thought the idea of eating in a converted train carriage was wonderful. Grandson had a child's meal but was more interested in the venue than the food. My wife and I each ordered a 'small breakfast' which was freshly prepared and great value for money at just a fiver each - and that included the usual items plus a choice of tea or coffee and buttered brown or white toast (lovely thick bread and freshly toasted). Very pleased our grandson insisted we eat here.

What a disappointment we order a bacon barm cake and the man that was serving us got the raw bacon out of the fridge put it on the griddle and went a got a roll out and he did not wash his hand after touching the raw bacon. Which is common sense you wash your hands and the other work was on her phone. So there was no customer service. And they are charging bistro price and it very run down not good luck. So I will not be visiting there again.

How on earth can you charge over £18 for 3 cartons of chips, 1 tub of small curry, 2 cans of coke, water and coffee? Made worse by the 40 minute wait for them, it was hot outside my kids and dogs were getting overheated waiting for them, if I'd of known not only that it would of taken 40 minutes especially after paying nearly £19 I would of gone elsewhere. Chips were not the best and we all left a third. Unless you have more money than sense and taste then go to The Toby next door

We used to have lunch here on a regular basis but not for a couple of years. Returned and were disappointed. The coffee we ordered wasn't freshly done- already in a jug and luke warm. They offered to microwave it !!! We also ordered a toastie which at £5.95 was very over priced and the cheese wasn't even melted in the middle. There also wasn't much filling. They are charging bistro prices for a run down place. We will not be going back.

Can't fault the service which is good... and can sit outside (maybe not in Winter though.. it's a sea-bit-chilly). A cheerful-café and the only one round that area which aren't stuck-up like the others are. Worried the prices are a bit high as competion round there offers now in some cases better value (think they need a pricing re-think) There are better value round the 'Square' for more grub in some cases (hence 3 stars). They don't do puddings which is a shame... some of the cakes are tacky run-of-the-mill expensive crap, but think some are homemade too which are much better. You can't charge restaurant prices in a café (not when there is one just up the road... and a carvery nearby). It's a possible recipe for disaster. Pets are allowed too, so I can take my dog in without tying her up outside... so long as there is space in the pet area which is brill'. . Would I go again ?... yes.

We visited this cafe early Monday lunchtime. We ordered Cumberland ring and chips, and veggie toad-in-the hole chips and gravy, with two mugs of tea. And that is exactly what we got, no salad, no peas or anything else. The portions weren’t the biggest either, so we were left wanting to be honest, especially for the money it cost us. Personally wouldn’t visit here again, would try somewhere else first.

It's a really nice idea. A railway carriage cafe right next to the beach & close to the pier. The sign says open all year. The menu is basic & so is the food. My meal wasn't fancy but I was totally happy with it. Seems popular with walkers & OAP's on mobility scooters. The prices were at the top end of what I would expect to see in a cafe but not excessive. It is well worth a visit.

The counter service needs some work as you will probably end up back at it asking for something. The price is very high compared to others of a simular quality. But for it you do get quality. Been there three times and each time the meal was good, simple fare at a fair price. The lamb shank for £7.95 says it all - apart from tinned veg you get a well-cooked lamb with a decent mash. Fish and chips you would expect but this was a surprise. Light and pleasant, even manages to be roomy, given that it is a rail carriage.

Me and my boyfriend stopped here for a quick snack and a coffee whilst we were out walking around St.Annes. We liked the fact that it was unusual to have a cafe in train carriages but that was all that was 'special' about the place. Food wise all we had was a portion of chips and cheesy chips so nothing really to report there. They were chip shaped and tasted like chips. The coffee, however, was a different matter. It tasted like dish water. Quite possibly the worst coffee we had ever tasted. We would probably return for the food but not the coffee.

The waitress was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for her. We ordered fish chips and peas and she had to go and check if they had enough fish, this was a little surprising as it was only 1 o clock and it wasn't busy, however when the meal arrived it was beautiful. Cooked to perfection not greasy in anyway, just crisp and delicious. A large cup of tea for only £1.50 provided 2 mugs actually, and the coffee was good too. The toilets are not brilliant but they're ok and a lot better than some and this is on an old train carriage. Looking at my other reviews you will realise that whilst I like exotic and original food I also like honest simple well cooked grub as well. This little haven supplies the latter. After a good walk along the prom, well wrapped up against the cold it was a delight to go into this cafe housed in old railway carriages. The environment was clean, smart and gently welcoming. The people working there were friendly, courteous and well presented. As it was before midday, and I'd only had tea and a biscuit before it just had to be the Full English, the Pullman version that was double the size was too daunting! The pot of tea came almost immediately, and the breakfast followed as quickly as the ingredients could be freshly cooked. Good bacon, a reasonable sausage, hash brown, some beans in a thick tomato sauce, half a grilled tomato, and a perfectly fried egg served with a round of toast that went down very well indeed. The menu offers something for most people, several veggie options, and a couple of decent sounding salads. I got the impression it was a family business, and these guys deserve to succeed. One very contented chap pottered back to his car and drove home! It doesn't have to be fancy to please me, just done well. Thank you, Carriages Cafe!

Looked online to check opening times before going and all said open at 09:00. Arrived at the cafe just after 9 and door was locked with a closed sign on it. Waited a few minutes as thought they were running a bit late for opening which was OK. My partner then asked through the open window around the side what time they were open and he got the reply '9 O'clock' 'Oh it's seven minutes past now' was my partners reply to the person who had replied, who didn't respond further. We waited a few more minutes until someone unlocked the front door and turned the sign around from closed to open then just let the door slam shut. No communication or apology from this member of staff for not opening on time, which we both thought was very rude and didn't make us feel like we wanted to part with our money to a place whose employees obviously weren't bothered. We decided to take our custom to Toby carvery for one of their buffet breakfasts which is only 5 minutes away. We then came back to the lake for a walk around and had a lovely drink from the RSPB visitor centre and a lovely chat with the staff there.
