What a lovely pub!! We had a table of 9 with dogs and they couldn’t have been more accommodating! Beautiful Sunday roast, a good selection of starters and traditional hot puddings. We had a selection of beef, pork, chicken and lamb and all meat was cooked beautifully and plenty of veg with a really tasty proper gravy!! Thank you so much for a lovely afternoon! The land lords were really lovely people xx

Great Location, very well equipped cottages, friendly hosts and fantastic home cooked food. More a destination restaurant than the standard british pub fare.! Well worth a visit just to eat but perfectly located for exploring The Wye valley, Monmouth, Chepstow and over to USK etc The racecourse is about 20 mins away if you fancy a days horse racing, Highly recommended.

We visited yesterday lunch time for a family 80th birthday meal. We were met with a warm welcome & with two family members having mobility issues we were seated in a perfect location. The food was incredible definitely restaurant standard rather than local pub. We all ordered different meals from the menu and it all came out together and were all very generous portions. The pub has recently been renovated and looks great. I’ve saved the photos off their Facebook page to post on here for people to see. I highly recommend a visit. The new opening hours are:- Wednesday 6. pm to 11pm Thursday. 6 pm to 11 pm Friday. 4 pm to 11 pm Saturday 12 to 3 pm 4.30 to 11 pm Sunday 12 to 4 pm 7 pm to 11 pm Food is served Food served:- Wed 6pm to 9 pm Thurs 6pm to 9 pm Fri 6 pm to 9 pm Sat 12 pm to 2 pm Sat 6 pm to 9 pm Sun 12 pm to 3 pm The Sunday lunch is incredible too. This is definitely our favourite pub in the area. They also have holiday cottages so if your just passing by or looking for somewhere to stay I highly recommend a visit.

We found this pub purely by chance on our trip to Chepstow. The owner was very welcoming, the interior is very traditional and cosy. The menu is surprisingly varied, not just ordinary pub grub, and all the food is freshly cooked. This means that you have to wait a while, but the food is well worth the wait. We would become regulars if we didn't live 100 miles away.

We came here last week due to it being within walking distance from our campsite. We had a warm welcome from staff and although it was a busy Friday night they took the time to have a chat. We were both impressed with our food (lasagna and steak pie), which were fresh and good portion sizes, as well as being reasonably priced! We can't wait to visit again when we're in the area.

We were staying across the road at the Shepherd's hut. Decided to call at the local pub for a drink. Greeted by the lovely friendly landlord Paul and the by friendly locals. Had a few pints of quality cask ale. The food looked amazing so we returned the next day for more ales and to sample the food. We both had curries which were very reasonably priced. Had chickpea bhuna and the lamb madras with rice and chips. Such delicious food will certainly return again soon. Paul and his wife are such fabulous hosts thank you both <3 Totally recomend this pub and it deserves to be successful. Good luck in the future.

After walking up some of the biggest hills I have ever walked up we finally made it to the bar. The owner was friendly and although quiet at first the pub soon filled up with locals ready to watch the Wales Irish rugby game. The owner made us feel very welcome and after talking we discovered we were from the same town!! After staying for a few drinks me and my family got ready for the long walk back to our accommodation. To our amazement the landlady kindly offered to take us back, such a kind and unexpected gesture and much appreciated given the distance we had to go. Such unexpected hospitality was fantastic and if in the area we would definitely visit again. A wide range of beers and what looked like a fantastic menu, definitely worth a visit if in the area or close by!!!!

We popped in for an evening meal when the St Pieirre in Chepstow, where we were staying, didn’t have room to fit us in their restaurant. What good luck for us. Lovely food from an interesting menu in nice friendly surroundings. Just watch out if using Google maps- the postcode abandons you down a muddy track rather than at the front door!

Stayed in the cottage which was perfect for two couples. It was clean, had everything you needed and best of all right next door to the pub. The host was so friendly and accommodating couldn't have asked for a nicer guy. Would definately recommend eating in the pub, the beef pie was one of the best I've eaten! Will definately look at staying her again. Ideal location to many places of interest.

Staying in the village, so decided to give the local a try - certainly not disappointed. Landlord is very helpful and friendly, putting himself out to find us a table. We tried the steak pie and the avocado & prawn salad - both were wonderful! Friday night us fish night and a pint for £10 - again was good value. Booked to try the Sunday lunch - looking forward to it!If you are in the area we would certainly recommend trying it, but book if you can as it is very popular with the locals.

As the road to Chepstow was closed on our way to Hay on Wye, we ended up on a narrow country road and came across this quirky pub for lunch. The landlord, Paul, made us very welcome and his wife, Jacqui, presented us with one of the best pub lunches we have had.I had a great homemade beef lasagne with garlic bread and a beautifully laid out salad with baby tomatoes and raspberries, and my wife had an enormous main course of prawn and avocado salad with wonderful fresh ingredients including fresh berries.

My partner and myself ate here twice over the weekend that we stayed. The landlord is the most hospitable and funny person I've ever had the pleasure of meeting in a pub. He made us feel like we were regulars even though we'd never been there before. The food was absolutely delicious - I highly recommend the rabbit and parsnip pie. If we're ever in the area again, we will definitely pay another visit.

My partner and I stayed at the Carpenters Arms from Friday the 1st to Sunday 3rd of June 2018. We arrived around 19:30 on the Friday after a long day at work and a 2 hour drive in hot conditions. Going against my normal MO I instead opted to go with my fiancée's way of think and leave our bags in the car and head straight for the bar and a cold pint of very welcome Stowford Press Cider. From the moment we arrived Paul the landlord greeted us at the car and helped us park. Heading in the bar the locals were extremely friendly which resulted in a further 2 hour delay to the car being unpacked. The friendly locals also worked hard to secure our taxis for the next day.

Every month a group of 'Mature' guys (over 50!) pick a local Monmouthshire Pub to have a meal and some beers. We selected The Carpenters Arms in Llanishen for our October night out. Good choice of Beers, really friendly Landlord, excellent table service, and really good home cooked food - in essence you can't go wrong! We were the last to leave the pub with full stomachs and perhaps a few beers inside us! It's on the main Monmouth to Chepstow road and therefore easy to find. We will be returning!

Popped in for a Saturday evening meal with three friends while visiting the area for a long weekend. Seems to be a popular place for both eating and drinking, we arrived quite early but it soon filled up. The food was good, tasty and home made, decent portions. The chips were lovely. We dropped into the Carpenters Arms by chance one lunchtime. The pub is situated on the main road in Llanishen, (the B4293 between Trelleck and Devauden). The bar is a comfortable and cosy affair where food can be eaten, with a more formal restaurant available too. We tried their freshly cooked fish & chips, which were fantastic - piping hot and good potions.

Outstsnding food and generous portions! Definitely recommend trying to reserve indoor seating though! Despite being end of August it was cold and blustery out on the picnic benches. Maybe consider bringing you own blankets if you are visiting (or suggest outdoor propane patio heaters may be a good provision for vendor in the future?).

Came here a couple of days ago. Lovely pub/restaurant. Staff were really friendly, which in turn made for a great atmosphere. We all ordered the Shin beef and guiness pie with mash potato ... which we all highly recommend, very good portion size too ... followed by a brownie with ice-cream and stick toffee pudding. Amazing food, thank you. We will definitely return when visiting again.

We dined at The Whitebrook restaurant for a birthday meal. For a Michelin star restaurant, the dishes, in our opinion, lacked creativity. The vegetarian menu and standard 9 course menu were lovely, but nothing that blew our mind. We've been to many other 1 Michelin star restaurants that have exceeded our expectations. The service here was particularly poor on the evening - it took the team 20 minutes to bring each course out, so for 9 courses, we were here almost 4 hours for just a table of 2. It also felt as though they were under staffed, as waiters were bolting off to the kitchen to grab the dish for the next table constantly. I was served a fish dish and had to correct them that I'm a vegetarian. We also had no body topping up our water or checking if we are ok for drinks. These sound like minor points but for a place like this, I'd expect top standard service, which we certainly didn't receive here. Also absolutely no atmosphere to the restaurant - there were 6 tables occupied, all in close proximity and no background music in the restaurant. Meaning conversations were overheard by all tables in an extremely intimate and quiet room. It just felt strange overall and we were keen for the experience to end so we could FINALLY get home!
