This has completely lost its way. It used to be a vibrant place to eat, lots of people, high quality local produce that felt like it was ‘from the farm’. Now, it’s just a greasy spoon that is WAY overpriced (£2.60 for a can of sprite is almost insulting) and the quality has completely gone out of the window. The ‘fresh’ meat is as though it’s from the bargain section of a supermarket. The decor is tired and there are horrible mouldy vinyl tablecloths which whilst might be easier to wipe down look shabby and feed into the feel of a run down place. The service was very slow (there are around 5 tables being used and it took around 30- mins to get some soup and a couple of sandwiches). Overall, this is nothing compared to what it used to be and given the location, this is really not worth making the effort to go to, there’s SO many options in the Paignton, brixham area to visit instead.

Purchased lamb chops at lunchtime on a Sunday which I stored in my fridge, I opened my fridge 4 hours later to the most offensive stench which turned out to be the lamb - the smell was retching the lamb was clearly ‘off’ so no Sunday dinner for us. Returned to the farm shop the next day to be told the smell was due to being vacuum packed (it wasn’t vacuum packed) the butcher proceed to smell every chop individually by putting it literally on his nose and snorting (believe me this was neither a pretty sight or necessary) my car stunk of rotten meat in the short 5 minute drive to the farm shop). I was told they ‘would do their own tests to clarify IF the meat was off’ again the colour of the meat and the stench was evidently sufficient. I was offered no ‘good will gesture’ at both the inconvenience, poor quality meat and having no Sunday dinner - I was offered a replacement which I declined and requested a refund which I was given to the penny. We will not be returning which is a shame as we live locally but this is not the first time we have had a poor/bad experience from the butchers department. Poor quality meat and customer service guys!!

This cafe is now called Home Farm Kitchen. Visited whilst car being valeted. Simple order of cake, scone, ice cream and 2 coffees.... Sent coffees back......supposed to be Flat White, but coffee was barely tepid. Replaced but equally tepid. Definitely not a flat white, it was just cold milky coffee...... Banana cake was OK and so was the cheese scone Ice cream was not eaten by little one due to the hard balls sprinkled over the top, we tried them and you could break your teeth on them. Not ideal at all

Popped in to the butcher's for some beautifully aged steak one day when passing and noticed there was a car wash/valet and cafe on the premises too! So I've since been back to cleanse the back seat of my wet dog whilst having an all day breakfast (superb apart from only slightly runny egg yolks), popping into the farm shop for more butchers delights and finishing off with a coffee before picking up a clean car! Multitasking at its most pleasant and rewarding 🤗 All the staff I met were warm and helpful. Thoroughly recommended.

We visited the farm shop & cafe. Lovely breakfast & pleasant staff. It appeared to be busy with older regulars & all wearing masks which was a stark difference to anywhere else we visited whilst away. This made us feel a little uncomfortable as we hadn’t taken masks (our problem) I understand if the customer base is older & more vulnerable, I wish I’d have known their preference for this before visiting. So if you go.. take a mask 😷 The farm shop is lovely too.

We visited yesterday and were most impressed with the quality of service and cleanliness of the restaurant. We believe the restaurant changed management a few months ago and the old reviews are out of date We had 2 meals.Roast turkey and roast beef. Both were served with roast 🥔 and stuffing or Yorkshire pud and accompanied with a dish of fresh seasonal vegetables. I think cauliflower broccoli carrots sweet potato parsnips and beetroot. There was plenty and we were invited to choose extras...we had horseradish and cranberry sauce. Our meal cost £12.99 each and included a soup or a pudding. We chose the pudding and were not disappointed. A delicious apple cake and custard and a yummy chocolate cake. We will certainly return

Thought we would come here for a lovely farm shop breakfast, thought it would taste lovely. Wasn’t we wrong. £9.50 for a breakfast thought it was fresh food coming, arrived fatty bacon not cooked fat u would use on the end a fishing rod as bait. Eggs bland and mushrooms bland tomato hardly cooked, the ketchup was like vinegar. Disgusting, ended up giving most of our food to our dog he didn’t even eat the bacon if u call it that. For the price you pay u should have tasty food but my mouth was bland after and it’s more like a £3 breakfast would would get from a cheap grotty restaurant. We’re locals and try out a lot of places but this food was shocking, and left quickly. I would avoid any breakfast here the food is way under satisfactory for a farm shop with no taste whatsoever. Would never return and never recommend this place to anyone else. Over priced for undercooked bland cheap food. One unhappy dissatisfied customer.

I popped in for a quick bite and a cup of tea. The first thing I noticed was some rats running around outside, indeed the lady at the small garden centre right next door was cowering behind a closed door. Apparently if the door is opened the rats run in. I spotted four at 2pm, goodness knows how many at 2am! To be fair I did not see any in the restaurant, but it was sort of off-putting. Minus 2 stars for this. It was apparent from the moment I entered that I was not really welcome, the place was quiet and I suppose the staff were wanting a break after lunchtime service. I was served by a rather sulky member of staff who really did not want to be there which made me feel sort of like I was intruding. The tea and sandwich were OK, just that, OK. Not a place I would visit again I'm afraid. However I always do some 'digging' and try to find out about the place and the complex does consist of a farm shop, the restaurant and small garden centre. After chatting for a while I discovered that an awful lot of the locals have now boycotted the place due mainly to the attitude of the owner. By all accounts (this was reported directly to me by the staff who seem terrified of him) he is an rather tyrannical bully and has upset many people by his behaviour.

I kept noticing a taste of vinegar and couldn't work it out, my partner said hers was fine. After a bit of deduction we worked out it was the Brown sauce do people add vinegar to water it down,,,, anyway it ruined my breakfast which was a great shame. I immediately noticed a smell that cooked meat shouldn't have, and on first bite, yes it was rank. Well, no way were we going to risk it, so yes we got our money back and left, even though we were offered something else from the menu. Hmmm soup, lasagne or breakfast. Not much choice. Have visited here before and have never had a problem . Yesterday we arrived at 3.45 and the chalk board outside said open from 9.30 - 4/4.30 so my elderly mother (who has mobility issues) and I knew we had sufficient time to walk in and place order of a cream tea after having been in the farm produce shop nearby. We walked into the indoor seating area and about to take a seat when we were politely asked to sit in the enclosed outer area as they had cleaned /cleared all indoor tables . So we then made our choice from a menu which I had to go back in to collect myself as they had all been cleared from outer area. I went to the order counter and clearly I would have been seen (as there is a mirror) and they would obviously have been expecting an imminent order . I waited for at least 3 minutes to place our order whilst they were busy chatting/giggling amongst themselves about the weekend . Finally I was served and was given a table/order sign ( which was odd as we were the only people there as the other couple were about to leave! ) Our pots of tea came out first and then a considerable wait for the scones which had been 'nuked' in microwave for too long and resembled and felt like a untoasted teacake on the outside - very soft . Too hot for the cream and jam ! The girl seemed a little false with her manner of trying to be pleasant and came across as very patronising when arriving with them and with the tea beforehand.Next thing we knew ,the door into the indoor cafe was shut (loudly) as if we didn't really matter. Then the two girls came out of same door about 5mins later and left the site to go home at around 4.10.Didn't feel very welcoming at all! Next, the door was locked from the inside and there we were sat there as if we weren't at all valued as customers. We were then sat on our own in the premises and the table would have remained with our cups/plates etc left out overnight .Such a shame that customer service was a big let down (and nuked scones) It would have been a little better if somebody had at least said 'so sorry we are leaving now but don't worry about the table it'll be cleared in the morning ,thank you for your custom 'or better still to have waited until we had left which would have been within their stated closing time of 4.30. They just took our money and that was that with not an ounce of genuine customer care . Such a disappointment :(

I'm really saddened to be writing this and to be honest wish I could let this experience go but it was such a poor experience from a usually pleasant place! I am hoping this was a one off and the place isn't on a downhill spiral. We went in while we were having the car washed just next to Caroline's kitchen (we use the car wash because we like to pop in for tea and cake!). It was 3:50 and the sign clearly says open until 4/4:30. There was another table in so we went on in and ordered. Once we had ordered two hot chocolates and two slices of cake we were told to sit in the tent part of the cafe as the staff were leaving now! I didn't have a problem with sitting there it's where I would have chosen, however the phrasing of the sentence and the tone left me feeling uncomfortable. When we were served by a different lady she was very smiley and my faith in the place restored a little! My carrot cake was delicious and the bannoffie pie at first was gorgeous, until a mouthful of cream left is disgusted - it was off. Im sure the hot chocolates would have been fine once cooled however we didn't hang around to find out! I would like to point out that as a waitress myself I would usually always say something to the staff as I'm sure they would rectify the issue, however the staff had left so we left feeling extremely disappointed.

The food was delivered by staff members who don't seem to care about you, and the owner, Mr Haddock, is a very rude man indeed. I visited two years ago in 2014 and the staff were lovely (I remember in particular a young gentleman), the food was well portioned. What happened?!

We use this place regularly and it's a nice place to come for a lazy Sunday breakfast You can also visit the excellent farm shop (we do!) for more goodies and use the fab butcher but watch yourself you can end up spending a fortune if you are undisciplined foodies! There is also a l small but well stocked garden centre ( I sometimes get the car washed as well from the very friendly guys there - always a good job and more Sunday laziness!)Anyway the main point of the review was the cafe! For the hungry the farmers breakfast is lovely with freshly cooked and local sourced meats including a nice Hogs pudding good breakfast rolls and lighter breakfast a availableLast and not least service is really good friendly and efficient and there is plenty of space for a group

Trying to give local business some support, went out here, spent some money in the garden centre (very knowledgable and helpful staff), had the car cleaned, so popped in here for a coffee. The effect is that of an up market portacabin. Prices on the high side, I found the staff friendly, lovely coffee. Would probably do it again, when passing.

Called in for breakfast whilst over Churston way. Breakfast OK nice tasting small sausage, mushrooms cold, tomato not great. When finished a lot of oil/grease left on the plate reminiscent of the transport caffs. Pot of tea good and plenty of it.Plenty of parking and lots of seats. Service very quick but not particularly friendly. Could have caught them on a bad day.

Living nearby we have visited the restaurant and shop a few times, primarily so the children can have a play while we have a coffee. We were determined to like it and support local business but the staff service has let it down too many times now. My mum, daughter and I walked over for a coffee and play at the weekend while my husband, dad and son played golf next door at Cayman. Mum and I sat in the tented section so I could watch my daughter in the play area. The heaters were switched on for us (great) but no sooner than we had finished our coffee a member of staff came out and turned them off. The staff then turned the lights off in the cafe. Nobody uttered a word to us. No "I'm sorry we are closing soon" nothing just everything switched off like we weren't even there. There are only so many times you can give a chance. We won't be going back and will return to our old farm shop - several miles away - for our Christmas goodies. It could be a great place but service, atmosphere and rudeness let it down. We should have stayed at the golf where you can always get a coffee with a smile.

Oh yes, some where to chill out .. .the atmosphere could not have been colder. When ordering at the counter the lady never smiled or said thank you and was very frosty. Ok it was 3.30 on a wet afternoon and she probably was hoping to finish early. Sorry we didn't rush out, no not sorry to the staff, sorry to us for sitting it out instead of running away fast. When we went to leave the floor was being cleaned in the outer room and the girl was approaching the door into the main room. We stood to one side and held the door whilst she came through with her bucket, did she say thanks, did she smile, did she hell.We said thank you as we Brits do when we leave a place but I think we were either invisible or she is deaf because there was no reaction. Never mind we won't be inconveniencing them again. So when the season finishes and the visitors have left they can have a quiet day every day of the week. Hope they manage to pay themselves.

We were passing and hungry so nipped in for a bite to eat. Staff and premises were a delight as usual. As a family of four we consumed two bowls of chips, clean and well cooked, a cream tea (with bowls of jam and cream that were deceptively large, yum) and a farmhouse breakfast, with thick and non-fatty sausages. I have never had a bad meal here and the children love the play area.

We ordered tea, a fruit scone and jam and lemon meringue. The scone was the heaviest scone ever and it was doughy in the middle....horrible. My husbands lemon meringue filling was like very heavy thick jelly and the pastry was also heavy. (Lots of "heavy" here!!!) despite it being his favourite pud, he could not finish it. Dreadful! Will not return and would give a zero score if I could.

Sourced from mainly local producers the shop offers a wide selection of food. Much of what is on offer at the café' comes from the shop and is very reasonably priced. The garden centre is smaller than many but is pretty comprehensive. And whilst you're picking your plants and/or enjoying your coffee you can have your car cleaned to a very high standard at a modest price.

Lived in Churston for a number of years and eat here at least three times a week. The breakfasts are famous locally. In fact this is where the locals go.The produce comes mainly from their own farm or from the immediate area.My wife and I have never had a bad meal here and don't believe the negative reviews which I guess we're left by the competition as they mention the other place too often to be credible. We are not in anyway connected to the owners and honestly believe you will not find a better or fresher cooked breakfast anywhere inthe UK.All the produce in the breakfast comes from the fields around you. This is not the case anywhere else that I know of.The food in the farm shop is totally fresh but as it does not contain additives does not last as long as treated items from Sainsburys etc.Try the lamb with stuffing or pork belly with stuffing they are unbeatable.Ignore the poor reviews and if you don't care about views of the bay and want the best cooked breakfasts bar none go here.Actually don't go here as its getting busy and we won't get a table.

I visited Caroline's Kitchen during May half term. I had heard of this establishment for many years now but hadn't had the time to go. It certainly wasn't well worth the wait. The food itself was relatively tasty. It was as shame to have it completely ruined by the strangely tense atmosphere created by the staff. When I ordered my drinks, the lady on the till didn't get it right the first time so had to start again. Now, I had absolutely no issue with this but she huffed and she puffed away like she it was some sort of major problem. From the very beginning, I knew she was not in a good mood and it was merely signs of what was yet to come. I believe Caroline was the one who delivered my drink, if you can even call it that. She walked to my table, called my order and slammed them down on the table, sloshing the beverage around and some onto the table. Hardly customer service. Of course, I thanked her but she did not answer and walked away. I understand that some people do not want to interact, they just want to have their drink, but others do like a nice conversation. It showed me that the staff did not have much training in caring for their customers. The whole situation seemed awkward, but it really shouldn't of. The chef was also shouting and moaning in the kitchen the whole time I was there also, again showing little respect to the customers. Churston Farm Shop need to address this issue as soon as possible, because the place is a disappointment sadly. I would recommend the Bay Coffee Company in Brixham instead. Very friendly AND tasty.

Not a great experience. I had a sausage sandwich, the bap of which was covered in flour, when I say covered I could have scraped it off and and mixed it up to make a pancake! My wife had scrambled eggs, it was not cooked through properly and certainly did not look like scrambled eggs. The service was miserable, the owner clearly needs a lesson In customer service. I have never had a good experience there and just go for the kids outdoor play area, this was indeed the last time we will be visiting.

Sad really. It's a shame really. Caroline's Kitchen is a place of scrumptious tasting food and a bubbly, yet controlled atmosphere. I have now visited on a couple of occasions, two of which, in the summer of 2014 and in the recent Halloween half term. Here, I was served by a lovely and well mannered young man, who seemed to be the only male waitress. He was pleasant in conversation with me and tended to all of my needs, something Caroline should be proud of. However, I was then absolutely disgusted to see the way Richard Haddock, who I believe to be the owner of the company as a whole, treating his members of staff with utter disrespect. Not only did he command them around like they were second class citizens to him but also was rude and calling them names. By the looks of it, he thought this was all fun and games. However the waitresses faces when he offended them was awful to see. Nobody should be spoken to like that by their boss and unfortunately this experience put a downer on my visit. Hopefully Mr Haddock gets some manners before I return again or he could not only lose me as a customer, but many others could follow suit as well.

Where can you go to buy great meat, superb vegetables a lovely selection of cakes and pastries and sooo much more... Churston Farm Shop and Caroline's Kitchen is the place. Ther is a garden centre too but we didn't visit. That's for a future visit. Anyway, if that's not enoegh you can pop next door and indulge in some go karting or mini golf. Me, I'll settle for the joys of the farm shop with its excellent produce and then head to the cafe. Try it. You won't disappointed. I have a feeling we will be stopping off here when we are in the area.

My family have visited the farm shop frequently as it is a nice convenience to stop there and park outside. I went for brunch with my husband recently and had a nice experience. I like the decor inside and the comfortable surroundings. It is popular with the local more affluent people and on reflection I understand now why. It is rather too pricey though for my liking as the food is good and fresh but so are many other local cafes in the area. I felt that the value for money was not really fair. I will shop occasionally in the shop but will only go back to the farm shop on a rare or special event which is sad really because they have a great place if they become more competitive.
