An amazing building, super service and delicious food - and what lovely staff! We couldn't get a taxi home so one of the staff gave us a lift home - outstanding and really impressive all 'round. Highly recommend.

This was the highlight of my birthday celebrations. The candle-lit dining room in the old castle was magical, the service was excellent, the food most unusual and perfectly cooked with a wide choice of dishes.

Great dinner in a unique setting and great value for money. Absolutely loved our meal here with friends. Being a Saturday night it was very busy (we'd booked in advance) and all of the staff were efficient and friendly. The food was generous in portion and very tasty with a goid variety of choice on the menu. Being able to go up on to the roof in-between courses for a lovely (although cold!) view was an added bonus. The house wine was good - we had both red and white - and the whole jealous was very reasonable in price. The only downside was that the coffee was instant - but the waitress made us aware of this and we didn't bother having coffee. Would definitely go back

The castle experience was great. Very atmospheric with its small rooms and stone walls. The food was no better than any other Middle Eastern restaurant although it was OK. It was all completely spoilt by the impossibly bad track leading up to it. It was very narrow with lots of potholes and large rocks sticking out. If this is your first visit only go during daylight hours so you can see the problems before you hit them.

Amazing atmosphere with lovely Middle Eastern food and efficient friendly service. This is a castle originally built in 1379, probably the oldest place where I've eaten dinner! The setting is high up, so you get a good view across Cornwall.

After 13 years of living in Redruth I eventually made it to Carn Brea castle for dinner. I went with my two sisters and brothers in law and it was a fantastic experience. We were greeted by Menna who showed us to our table on the upper floor. We were early but that was not a problem with Menna giving us plenty of time to peruse the excellent menu. We all said that the food was exceptional and the unique ambience of the castle made for a memorable night. A mot enjoyable experience and I enthusiastically recommend a visit to 'the castle.' It is very popular so it would be prudent to book ahead as soon as you can., especially for a Friday and Saturday. Many thanks to Menna and the castle team. Blair.

Starter of humus in a large dish but thinly smeared around the pot and the the centre filled with olive oil resulting in little humus to coat the pitta bread. Disappointing when in most Turkish restaurants this starter is provided free of charge. Main described as lamb kebab with onion relish. What arrived was 4 very good quality small lamb cutlets with a couple of warm white onion bits top of a mound of white rice and some dressed small chopped up salad leaves with chopped tomato etc..and a pot of plain yoghurt. Wine was ok but overall not worth the money and very limited menu. Need to up their game for such a nice venue.

An unusual venue to have dinner. A winding track leads you up to the castle and the views are stunning on a good day. The castle is perched on the top of what can only be described as a Tor. This is an experience eating here. We visited in January and it was dark and atmospheric. Mainly lit by candle light inside which adds to the ambience. Our dinner was superb. We had chicken and steak (which was cooked to perfection) and some very tasty starters. Sincere thanks to Andy and the team for a memorable evening in a unique setting. We had to change our date due to unforeseen work at the venue, but as a thank you from Andy, we had a free bottle of wine with our dinner which was much appreciated and a lovely gesture. Can’t wait to return…. A1

My husband wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday with friends and eat at Carn Brea Castle. We were a large party of 9, including 1 vegetarian, and everyone was impressed. The food was excellent, and we thought that there was plenty of choice. Our food was delicious. Very interesting middle eastern spices and flavours, which made the food delicious. There is a limited wine list however, the wine was very good. Wrap up warm as the Castle can get cold.My husband went onto the roof for the views which I understand in the summer are amazing. Book well in advance and take cash. Cards are not accepted. We would definitely visit again. It was a great experience and the food was worth it

16 of us for a 70th birthday enjoyed this absolutely wonderful venue. A lovely sunny (but breezy) September evening after a very wet and windy day. We were able to enjoy the early evening sunshine on the roof terrace (actually 3 different areas with 2 out of the breeze). The management were very helpful from day 1 of planning the event although a little patience is required awaiting responses due to the Castle's restricted communications. They always responded (with good answers) by next morning. The service was perfect; discreet, friendly, efficient, helpful and patient. The food.... the empty plates said it all. Two of our party have run Cookery Schools and were delighted, as we all were. Plenty of choice, freshly prepared, great quality and all 16 meals arrived together....hot! What was remarkable was the value for money. This is NOT an expensive restaurant with a precocious menu. Starters from about £5 to £8. Mains from £15 to about £26 (steak served perfectly as a Carn Brea special); good choice of middle-eastern dishes which are not too spicy and not a chip in sight! It was cosy fitting in 16 around 1 table but it worked well. The Castle itself is fascinating with nooks and crannies everywhere and an extra room with retro stuff for sale (low key, not in your face). I had seen reviews saying the drive up is narrow. It is a Cornish Lane and no worse than many. I checked it out in advance, with a view to using a minibus. It wouldn't have been a problem although it might have struggled around the last chicane through the boulders but that is only 200 yards from the Castle. Standard cars, SUVs etc fine for getting all the way to the ample car park. This is the morning after and we have spent ages just going back over what a wonderful evening Carn Brea Castle Restaurant gave us. Thank you so very much. Half our guests had no idea where we were taking them so it was a total surprise to arrive at this unique landmark. Everybody was bowled over by the Castle and it's ambience. After a very windy, rainy day it had come sunny and with a breeze so the roof terrace(s) (actually 3 areas so two were out of the wind) was a perfect mingling point to admire views before we ate. The service and food matched the perfection of the venue. From initial planning to the evening, the management were a great help, answering all my questions. As communications (phone etc) are difficult up there, you do have to be patient as they generally respond during the morning. I had read reviews that commented on the narrow road up but went and checked it out first. If needed you could get a minibus up there (although probably not the last 200 yards) but I did concede to give a lift to one guest as he might have resisted taking his big expensive Mercedes up. In conclusion, the venue unique and atmospheric, the food excellent (two of our guests have run Cookery Schools) and the service smooth, discreet, efficient and exceptional. Apologies for the 6 month late review. We went to Carb Brea castle for a meal whilst on holiday for a week in july. Now it's not the kind of menu I would not of normally been enticed in by (I have fairly simple taste) but I must say, I had the chilli chicken for a main course and it was simply put the nicest curry-like dish I have ever had, anywhere and starter was excellent too. The service was very efficient. the building was absolutely stunning and some great views ( I would recommend allow 15 minutes or so either before or after the meal to have a wander around the grounds. plenty of place to go and grab a great view). I have every intention returning on my visit to Cornwall. One thing I might add though is it is very off the beaten track and some taxi company's only agreed to drop us at the end of which it would be 15 minute walk otherwise. Luckily we found a great firm that battled down the lane and took us to the door, there is a car park though at the castle but will require a bit of technical driving. But this is all minor stuff because you simply wouldn't find this dining experience on the high street so it's well worth the perserverance.

Definitely one of the best customer service experiences we’ve had lately in a venue that we feel privileged to be able to enjoy. One tiny criticism would be that there is only red or white house wine and we would have chosen something slightly better with steak if it were available. Having said this, it does add to the quirkiness of the place so all good.

We had a family meal out here during our week long holiday in Cornwall. At the end of a long winding rough track is Brea Castle. It's certainly a unique and rustic experience to dine in the restaurant inside a very old castle. They let guests wander up very narrow stair to the roof to check out the vista. It was misty when we visited so we didn't see much! Their menu is Middle Eastern, however choice was a little bit limited, compared to other restaurants where we've had Turkish/Lebanese food - possibly limited by the size of kitchen available in such an old building. The food we ordered was nice and we all finished our plates, but I have to say it wasn't anything sensational either i.e. it did not leave us continuing to eat after we felt full, in a way that some other Middle Eastern restaurants we've eaten in have done... The baba ghanoush tasted too much of tahini more than the smoked aubergine, the hummus was OK. Shish Tawuk (chicken) was tasty, juicy and tender. The tiger prawns in the Sayadayeh were perfectly cooked; shame that the dish overall was a little dull. The service was very good overall (our host/server Rasa made us feel welcome), and they accommodated all our requests. Perhaps our experience of Middle Eastern restaurants set the bar high, but this was only good/average overall...

You don’t come here for the food, you come here for the quirky nature of the venue, the ambiance and a well cooked dinner, served by efficient and polite people.Service is unbelievably quick, our starters arrived three minutes after we ordered, and our perfectly cooked steaks as the starter plates were cleared. We visited six years ago and the menu is the same (even the soup of the day is vegetable). All food is cooked well, very tourist traditional and served with lots of salad, rice, potatoes and vegetables. The views and building are stunning, yes the drive is a little hairy, but you are going to a castle on an accent hill fort site, so what do you expect!Take cash, eat good food, go to the roof to see the 360 degree panorama and tip the bloody amazing staff (up and down those stairs all night with food and drinks is hard work).

The food was good, we had both of the aubergine starters and the shish and lamb cutlets for mains. As mentioned already there is no wine choice. The service was rushed and business like. I would not recommend the restaurant for families with small children who constantly shout for 2 hours as this might spoil the experience for the rest of the diners . Having said that the acoustics in the castle are tremendous .

My cousin, coming to stay with us, asked if we would book a meal "somewhere different that we had never been before". I had been aware of the restaurant at Carn Brea Castle for many years but had never actually got around to trying it. I duly booked and on the agreed day the four of us headed out, the drive up from Carnkie village is an experience in itself. The restaurant is spread across the various floors of the castle giving a pleasantly intimate setting with great character. The roof is open to the public and it is well worth climbing the narrow staircase for the panoramic view of central Cornwall. The cuisine is middle eastern / European. For starters I had the meneesh which is a baked flatbread with thyme, sesame seeds and olive oil. This is something that should really be shared, definitely not a single person starter. Next time we go we will order a range of starters and share "mezze style". The restaurant lists a "small mezze" as a main, I think next time we will take that as a shared starter (one of our party had this as a main and pronounced it excellent).I had the pepper fillet, cooked rare ("blue"), yes it was a proper fillet and cooked to perfection and came with a sufficiency of pepper sauce (I hate it when restaurants are stingy with sauces) the sauce I suspect contained other eastern spices, very tasty. Veggies were cooked well too. My wife had the sirloin steak which was good, while my cousin had the lamb kebab which wasn't served as a kebab and more like lamb medallions which he really enjoyed. All four of us couldn't fault the food (other than the meneesh should be billed as a starter for sharing); we all felt the service was excellent too, helpful and attentive. The venue would certainly benefit from a wine selection, only choices were house "red", "rose" or "white". We had the red and it was pleasant enough. We all had deserts which were pleasant and the waitress responded instantly with a little extra cream when requested. We will certainly return and give more friends and relatives the experience. The menu can accommodate veggies and vegans well but might not be suitable for diners with very "plain" tastes. Having worked throughout eastern Europe and the Middle East, and enjoying the cuisine, I loved it.It should be noted that the very structure of the (very small) castle does not facilitate "social distancing separation" of diners and tables.

The food is Jordanian, but absolutely delicious. They had a childrens menu which had a good choice. After dinner we were able to go to the top of the castle to experience the stunning views. If you're looking for something a little different and very memorable this ticks the box.Staff were very friendly and helpful, if we lived locally I think we'd frequent this restaurant as there was more on the menu I'd have liked to have tried.

If you like good food, this is NOT the place to go. My husband and I excitably booked for a meal as part of our honeymoon in Cornwall,.. Unfortunately it did not live up to our expectation. The food was awful! We had the potato and spinach curry which was one of the few vegetarian options on the menu. It was full of salt, and tasted like a bad microwave meal. We are sure it had been made days in advanced and reheated up. We both had terrible stomachs this morning because of it. Yes the castle is beautiful, but the food makes this place fall short. The driveway up to the castle is terrible, be prepared for a few bumps and scrapes on your car from the potholes on your way up.I hate writing bad reviews, but for the price of the food in this restaurant and the quality of what arrives on your plate, it isn't worth it.

The venue is something really special, the restaurant and views are incredible. I'd definetly recommend the whole experience as something you must do. Dont think I'd return though. For me the food did not live up to the experience or the price. I'm not knocking the food too much, the quality was good, I just felt they have such an opportunity to do something special. We ordered the lamb and King prawns. The lamb was just a few cutlets on plain rice, it was well cooked, a bit plain and the majority of the plate was taken up by the condiment bowl of yogurt. Same story for the prawns. After spending £80 for two we did leave a bit hungry. They could also do with a better wine list. The only red option was the house wine and it was no more than a £5 bottle from the supermarket marked up 3x. The last frustrating thing was they don't accept card. Its nice they do tell you when booking. I never keep cash on my person so looked at what I wanted before and withdrew the money. But after the small portions I wanted to order a bit more and couldn't so just got a taxi to the co-op and grabbed a pizza.

Visited Carn Brae Castle restaurant on a recommendation and have to say the restaurant and setting is amazing. Overall we had a lovely evening and absolutely loved the building and views. Unfortunately we could not say the same for the food. We did not complain as the experience made up for it which we feel is probably the case more often then not upon reading the other reviews along similar lines. The food was cooked well and edible but not reminiscent of Lebanese. The starters were nice despite the standard packet pitta breads however the mains were bland and uninspiring. Chilli chicken can only be described as jarred chicken curry from the supermarket with added hot spice layed on a coriander supermarket naan with plain boiled rice. Lamb cutlets unseasoned although cooked well with plain boiled rice and chopped lettuce, cucumber and tomato with no dressing. Nothing Lebanese about it. Having eaten frequently in Beirut I was left disappointed. Drinks weren't much better, small selection of not great wines and with all the lovely cornish ciders about we got served a pint of strongbow :-/. Overall lovely place just a shame the food was sub standard and massively overpriced for what we got.

We are locals anmd having walked up Carn Brea a number of times we had always wondered about this restaurant and could not wait any longer to go and see. You have to prebook and must pay with cash or cheque, no cards. What an experience, not too sure what to expect we started our adventure. To get to the restaurant you have to drive up a long unmade track, quite narrow and very bumpy so take care but don't let this put you off. You arrive at the restaurant, ring the bell and we were greeted by a very friendly lady who makes you most welcome. It turned out that this lady would be our waitress, in fact she was the only one there on table duty. She works so hard but makes it so obvious that she loves her work, always smiling. The castle has many small areas for dining, going up stone staircases to different levels, all lit by candlelight, there are candles everywhere, creating such a lovely and relaxing atmosphere. The service is excellent, we ordered and before we knew it the food was on our table, we had three courses and the food was cooked to perfection. Not a huge choice on the menu but should be enough to satisfy most people with the range from European to middle eastern. You are also allowed to go up narrow stone steps to the top level where the views from between the turrets are amazing on a good day.I can usually find something not too good and drop a star in rating but this visit was perfect in every way, thoroughly deserving five stars. We will certainly return again and when we have visitors can think of no better place to take them, if you would like something a little bit different this is the place for you.

This is an amazing location which could be used to so much more advantage. Some finishing touches & more choice are needed. They need to have a wine line, there is no choice at the moment & that also goes for other drinks; beers & spirits. The food itself wasn't bad & my husband went up onto the roof which has an amazing view. Arabic coffee is not pleasant at all, didn't taste of coffee. Real napkins would also help the ambience

We were recommended to visit this place by a friend and we were not disappointed! The drive up to castle is a long a very narrow road with lots of potholes, so drive slowly and it almost seems like you’re driving into the middle of nowhere. But once you reach the car park, there’s plenty of space to park. The castle is on top of a hill, so the views are amazing even when it’s dark. The reception is a warm, cosy entrance with a roaring fire which was perfect as it was freezing outside! We were greeted by a very friendly lady, who shown us to our table. It’s very dimly lit as the main source of light is candles, so would be a struggle for the visually impaired. But it added to the medieval atmosphere. The menu was predominantly European and Middle Eastern but a range of dishes for everyone to enjoy. The price is more on the expensive side but the food was tasty and good quality so it was worth the price. Our lovely server made us aware that the rooftop was open so we could explore the roof and take some more photos. By the way, the only accept cash or cheque - no cards of any kind.Overall, a lovely place with tasty food and friendly service!

A magical experience in this amazing castle. The drive is an adventure in itself, the road becomes narrow and unmade when approaching the castle. Once we had parked, we ring the bell at the entrance to the castle, once in the castle there was an open fire in the reception area and we were shown to our table. The atmosphere was great and we were able to spend time on the roof. Candle light is the main source of lighting in the castle which adds to the atmosphere. The castle is a quirky building with steep stair cases which become quite narrow if climbing to the roof. Expect it to be on the dark side inside and cool as it is a very old building. The service was efficient and the food lovely. Wine choice is limited but not a problem and the red which we had was a great choice. If you are looking for a different experience in a very old property with stunning views then this may well fit the bill. Cash or cheque payments only.

I visited here with a friend who, like me, had always wanted to see what it was like. If you are a Goth, or even a more closet one like myself, book a table. The food is lovely, the staff are happy, friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is Transylvania in Redruth. We ate three courses each and, not only was the food filling, it was not overly rich, well balanced and a very decent price. Just under £34.00 for mine which included a drink. The castle's age and stone can be felt. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to go somewhere different for an adventure and I will certainly be back. A word of caution if you are the driver, which I was; it is quite a bumpy and alarming road to those who are unused to it. Watch out for speed bumps too at the beginning which loom up unseen. Luckily, I had driven the route before hand and knew what to expect. Do go up on the parapet and do visit the strange room with weird and wonderful things in it. As I say, if any of your friends or family are Goths, get them up here!

We were looking for somewhere special to celebrate our anniversary and this came up with good reviews. Decided to book a table as it sounded quite out of the ordinary. Well it certainly was an experience that I won’t forget. The drive up, in the dark is quite an adventure on its own. Certainly in need of a drink once you arrive. You have to ring the bell when you arrive and someone comes and unlock the door to let you in. There are several little areas with tables in and everywhere is just lit by candlelight. We had to climb up stone stairways to our table. Very cosy although it’s just stone walls and candles. We were told we could climb up to the roof to have a look out over surrounding area. Advice, turn phone torch on as it’s very dark up here. Well worth it though. And the food! Can only say delicious. Had hummus with hot pita bread and stuffed vine leaves for starters, all very tasty. We had lamb kebab and chicken kebab for main and couldn’t fault it. As a visitor to Cornwall it’s unlikely I will visit again anytime soon, but would highly recommend a visit if you want something different to experience.

We live locally and have visited the Carn Brea Castle from time to time over the years right from the beginning when Munir Sawalha ran the restaurant. The food has always been excellent and the castle an absolute delight, a real Cornish treasure. Last year we took our friends from Utah to the castle and they loved everything about it and the wonderful Jordanian food. This time around we came with my brother and his wife. We were very sad to hear of the passing of Menir (a real gentleman), however his son Andy and his partner Anne should be proud of the fantastic job they do in carrying on the torch. What a fabulous find! Local friends told us about this unique Jordanian restaurant in the castle and we decided to give it a go! I can see what it doesn’t need to advertise as the food, service, setting and experience are superb and word will get around quickly! We enjoyed a mix of starters (beans, salad, hummus and vine leaves) and they were all fresh, tasty and came out in great time. The five of us had a range of mains from lamb kebab to chicken to steaks and every dish was a winner! Fresh veg, great flavours, and generous portions. Finished with smiles! The views from the castle are wonderful, and you can also go to the top of the castle for a panoramic view. The sun was setting and it was just fabulous. The candle light made the whole evening beautifully atmospheric and it was the perfect lock down catch up for us. What a quirky, fun and memorable place for a meal.
