Cardamom in Calderdale

Brilliant starters and main courses. One of the best curries ever. Everything was beautifully cooked and spiced.

We ate here last night and were very disappointed. Good portion sizes but the food was so bland. Really would expect the food to be as described on the menu. Never had an Indian meal at such a poor standard. Won’t be returning.

Came with a group for a birthday celebration. I had chana masala which was bland, no depth of flavour. It was also lukewarm. We were kept waiting at every stage and the service was poor, chaotic at times. My second meal here, the first being several years ago. I am as unimpressed as I was then which is a shame. I've subsequently spoken to several others in the party who, like me, have said that they won't be going back.

Eaten here many times. Tonight I tried a different main course and it was lovely. Some of the staff seem to have moved on and in my opinion, that is a good thing as I don't want sarcasm from the people serving me in a restaurant. The people who are there now are lovely. Doesn't affect me but, this place really isn't suitable for anybody who needs a wheelchair as there are a small number of quite big steps to access the restaurant. Once inside there is plenty of room and the downstairs toilet is plenty big enough for a wheelchair user. During the week just turn up. Friday and Saturday probably a good idea to book.

Beautiful, warm and welcoming restaurant. Lovely food, good prices and attentive staff. Would recommend and would visit again when we’re next back in Hebden. We really enjoyed it.

It was a Sunday evening and fairly quiet. The restaurant was spotless, and the service was quick (but not too quick) and efficient. Whilst it had most of the standards, it also offered some more unusual options. We had Quorn (that's right, Quorn!) South Indian Garlic Achari and Maachli Dilkush, a fish-based dish. Both were well worth trying. One piece of advice is that the rice portions are on the large size.

We had a fantastic meal here tonight (3rd June). The staff were friendly and attentive, the service was quick, and the food was tasted brilliant. We had poppadoms, pakoras, a mixed tikka platter starter and a range of curries and rice and naan. They were all great - it was the best Indian we had all had in years! We left feeling completely full without having that usual bloated, sickly feeling we often get after having an Indian meal out. Not to mention the meal was extremely well priced. We’re not from the area but would definitely return the next time we come down to Hebdon Bridge, from Durham.

I haven't eaten in a long time. This was my partner's favourite Hebden restaurant and I had to wait a long time before I could face going after he had gone. It was a Tuesday night and so I thought I would not need to book. Wrong, I only just got a table this place is so popular. So, Sat down one of the staff brought me a drink and a menu. I had popadoms, pickle tray, starter and main course. I can't fault any of it. The popadoms were fresh and light, the other food was just so tasty. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. Although it doesn't affect me, the only down side is that even the ground floor seating area has a couple of big steps to access it. This is a regular problem in the town due to when it was built. Other than that I can't recommend Cardamon highly enough.

What a gem. First visit here and well worth it. The service was excellent and the food beautiful. Great spice balance in the currys. We will definitely come again.

Friendly service, but bland food. Not what I expect from an Indian. Not the first time I've had subpar food from here. Won't be coming back.

A group of 3 couples caravaning down nearby Cragg Vale. We walked up the towpath if the Rochdale canal for an afternoon in Hebden Bridge followed by a Meal at Cardamom which I'd booked a few days in advance. Great food in a nice tidy setting and great service too. Food was very flavoursome but not too spicy hot, a couple of us went for a dish with three chilli rating but was actually quite mild. Not a problem and was very much enjoyed

Ordered a takeaway meal for the family fully expecting a mundane, tasteless offering. Oh! Were we wrong. Golden. Such a wonderful surprise. The Bombay Bicycle in Battersea had held the trophy in my mind for years but Cardamon is every bit as nice apart from Bombay's Chicken Tikka Masala.

Ordered takeaway based on reviews and location of restaurant. Efficient ordering by phone which was rechecked on collection. Prawn puri, chicken shashlik, pilau rice and plain naan for under £15 is excellent value and very tasty.

Just arrived in Hebden Bridge on a Tuesday night after a very long stressful drive from Devon. We were recommended Cardamon from a local and we had a such a fantastic takeaway meal. Incredibly tastly and great portions. One of the best Indian takeouts we have had, if not the best.

Food is appalling. Bland, tasteless food. A real shame as the building is beautifully converted. Why go to all that trouble and then get the worst chefs in the universe to serve up this rubbish?

6 of us went last night to celebrate a family birthday. The restaurant is very nicely laid out, plenty of space between tables and at the table. Nice warm welcome and shown to our table. Good mixture of traditional dishes and some more unusual choices...

Always fancied eating here and after a snowy trip over the tops from Haworth I’m so glad we made the effort to get there.We arrived without having a booking following a few pre drinks in Hebden Bridge first. We were quickly shown to a table and asked if we’d like to order drinks and popadoms whilst looking at the menu. We all ordered Cobra lager which they have on tap and popadoms with a dip tray. For starters my husband had the prawn puri and my daughter and myself ordered the mixed starter for 2. For mains I we all had a different curry off the menu, all generous portions and cooked to perfection. We also had rice, chipatties and a cheese and garlic Nan, again all perfectly cooked and presented.The staff were attentive and polite and we would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to any Indian food lover.

Food here was excellent, service from Ali superb. South Indian Garlic Achari is sublime. Great evening, highly recommended.

Called in after a trip to the Picture House. Staff were very helpful and the decor is very nice. Food arrived quickly and was excellent. The waiters Ali and Steven were very friendly and attentive. Great all round service and fantastic food, will definitely be returning.

As usual fantastic food and service - can’t fault them. I eat here regularly and order food to take away and it remains one of my favourite places to eat in Hebden. As for the 2 star review below - who goes to a restaurant and expects staff to keep track of 10 different food orders?! Ridiculous and rather mean to leave a poor review based on having to decide how to split a bill. I’ve never had a poor experience yet here - the staff are always happy to see you with a smile on their face and service is attentive/unobtrusive.

This is the best curry house in Hebden Bridge, the food is amazing and the staff are excellent. Service has always been amazing, would recommend to anyone

Had a trip on Gin Express from Haworth and needed a curry to finish the evening. Very pleasant service from Ali who helped with choice, Great starters - would recommend chicken chat puri - then on to main course. Mate had vegan and we had meat curries. Well tasty. Cant recommend highly enough.

The restaurant was really amazing to visit, it was delicious food and the staff members really took care of us and they were really polite. I would definitely highly recommend this restaurant.

Visited as a party of 10 for nephew's birthday. Food was pretty average for the cost, prior to ordering we asked if we could have a few separate bills as we were paying separately. Went up to the bar to pay before we left, asked if we could pay for what we'd had and was handed the full bill and a calculator and told to work out the cost of what we'd had as "they were busy". I have NEVER been to any restaurant where I've been asked to work out the cost of what I'd ordered on a calculator, then to be told by who I'm assuming was the manager that they didn't care what we paid as long as it eventually added up to the amount on the total bill at the end. As for "being busy"..... it didn't stop one member of staff watching snooker on his phone during service! Very much doubt we'll be returning.

Had some great food as usual,extremely tasty and also generous portions.I can not thanks one of the staff members enough, if he hadn't taken us to the station himself we would have missed the last train to Bradford. We ordered a taxi in plenty of time to get to the station, but he didn't turn up and the young man took us in his own car so we didn't miss the last train. I will never forget this, we will definitely return next time we are in Hebdon.

On the whole I would rate this good, tasty food and very nice, surroundings. Service lacks finesse but staff do aim to please, just not as attentive as should be in some areas. Seen better. Prices more than average & drinks especially are expensive.

We visited Cardomom when it first opened and unfortuantely didn't have the best experience. We returned last week with some trepidation. However, we needn't have worried. All cylinders seriously 'on fire' here now with wonderful attentive service, delicious food (generously portioned) and some great choices, all served up in wonderful surroundings . What's not to like. A big shout out for the onion bharji's - which I'm particularly partial to - lovely and crispy served with super fresh salad. So delighted HB has finally got a fantastic Indian restaurant at long last. Here's to it staying in business for a very long time to come. We'll be back and back and back...

I lyse moderne lokaler i utkanten av sentrum fikk vi god indisk mat servert av korrekte og høflige kelnere. Vi fikk papadum med forskjellige sauser mens vi ventet på hovedretten som var en svært velsmakende butterchiken. Og så det lille ekstra til slutt, en appelsinbåt til å rense munnen og en våtservietter for å tørke hendene.

Came in on 14th August 2019, ground floor was full house so went to 1st floor, was busy but the waiter Ripon seated us, he was working all by himself, very impressed with his working attitude and helpfulness. Food was ok, waiter was excellent 👌

I had by birthday celebration here with family and friends. It was the perfect place for a perfect evening. Everyone of the party enjoyed their meals and could not speak highly enough of the delicious food that we ordered. Some of my party were vegetarian and vegan and they too had a lot of choice on the extensive menu and were well catered for.

My vegetarian husband and I had a take-away from Cardamon last night and I have to say that the food was absolutely delicious. We highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

Went to Cardamom on Saturday evening for my mum's birthday meal, and it could not have been any better. The service was amazing, each member of staff was very welcoming and friendly. Not to mention the food which was out of this world! Plenty of food options which catered for our Vegan and Vegetarian friends, and even the choice to have a small or large portion size. For starters we had onion bhajis and poppadoms and both were amazing, the dips to go with them were delicious! For the main course I had Prawn Biryani with vegetable fried rice and I can honestly say it's the best curry I've had in a long time and I can't wait to go back. Everybody enjoyed their meal thoroughly, our only regret being that we couldn't fit more of their lovely food in our stomach! I would highly recommend this place to everybody and I promise you won't be disappointed!

Great service from the get go, food was immaculate. I had the chicken madras, which had a lovely kick to it with the right amount of spice. Would definitely recommend! I had onions bhajis for starter and have to say they were the tastiest ones I’ve ever had, already craving them again. Best Indian meal I’ve had in a while. The atmosphere within the restaurant was welcoming, staff were very friendly and accommodating to all our needs. Not quite sure as to why there are some negative reviews, Went in as a table of 9 and all of us were saying how much we loved cardamom! lovely staff and delicious food, will definitely be back soon.

Our 4th visit and Cardamom never disappoints. Warm welcome, great service and fabulous food. The peshwari nan was as good as I’ve eaten, the chicken jalfrezi hot and spicy. Vegetarian options also good. Cobra on draft - excellent. Will be back next weekend.

The food was OK, nothing special or memorable. What we remember most is that the waiter engaged us in conversation as soon as we arrived (no problem with that, of course) and then stood by us for most of the meal commenting on the way we ate our meal ("old school" apparently!!) and telling us about the various dishes and how they were cooked. We were sitting between the door and the bar so I can see that he had to be in that area, but leaving customers in peace is a bit of a basic. That, plus lack lustre food, has made us reluctant to return. It's a shame, we'd had high hopes.

I visited the restaurant with 2 friends recently and booked a table for 7pm, our orders were taken and the popadoms arrived, before we had finished eating them, the main course arrived and it was clear we were expected to leave the popadoms and start the main courses, as we were finishing the mains - which I must say were really good, the rather miserable waiter asked if we would like anything else, by this time (8.45) it was obvious they wanted us out and I asked for the bill, again however a waiter hovered next to us - obviously wanting the money and again giving the impression that they wanted us to leave? However on leaving a gentleman came in and was seated at a table and given a menu? I can only assume that the restaurant takes bookings for two ‘sittings’, with the second sitting starting at 9pm? It would have been polite for someone to have explained this when taking the booking? I feel it’s perhaps necessary to clarify that as three mature women we were certainly not giving the restaurant any other reason for wanting us to leave.

A welcome addition to the Hebden Bridge restaurant scene. The food was clearly freshly prepared, and the quality was superb. Our only criticism was the speed of service - there were long pauses between courses, despite the restaurant being only about half full. Recommended.

Great food, friendly staff. Clean environment. Will be returning very soon. My partner had the lamb tandoori which was served with a side salad and a mint dip. I opted for the prawn puree. Both starters were absolutely delicious . We then had Madras and a Korma with Mushroom rice and Garlic naan bread. It was served freshly cooked and was perfect.

Fancied a curry when visiting Hebden Bridge yesterday. Had searched the internet and found Cardamon which is in the town centre. Very clean comfortable restaurant with welcoming staff. Had poppadoms,chutneys and vegetable samosas to start which were all very good. For mains we had two chicken curries, a bhuna and an akbari whch were both excellent . Very tasty with lovely tender chicken. Pilau rice was very light and tasty and the garlic naan was perfectly done. All for a very reasonable price. Would definitely recommend.

We visited here following a long walk and decided to eat here before heading home , we were not disappointed. The restaurant itself is quite a modern and trendy place, the service we received from brothers Kamal and Kalam was great they were friendly and professional. The food was excellent, loved that you could order small portions and the wine was very reasonably priced. Overall, very enjoyable and we will definitely be returning.

Asked if any of the naan bread was vegan, said its all vegan. On further questioning it turned out that none of them were. Asked if veg biryani was vegan, said yes but again after further enquiries said the rice was cooked in a 'little bit' of butter. Didn't offer any advice on dishes, but to be honest wouldn't have trusted him anyway. Food OK but wouldn't go again.

First visit to Cardamon and really liked the food, cosy and smart restaurant with attentive but not pushy service. Mushroom bhaji was gorgeous as was the sag paneer - we all had great food. NO complaints so go here!

Went because our taxi driver recommended it. Good choice. Quite a small place not much bigger than a front room but the food and service are good. Tasty without assaulting the taste buds. We’d recommend it too.

We went to this restaurant on a booking for 8 p.m. Table cleared and waiting for us. Pre dinner drinks arrived quickly. Ordering from menu straightforward. Poppadums arrived to keep us expectant. Thee of us with three separate dishes and rice and aloo paratha. Staff not UK ethnics but good old Yorkshire all the same Amazed to learn this is the first Indian restaurant in HB: needs to be supported and encouraged

We recently celebrated our son's birthday at Cardamon Hebden Bridge. We were a large booking of 10 and the staff were very helpful and accommodating such a large group. It was our first time at Cardamon and it certainly will not be the last, as the food was delicious. I would strongly recommend the mixed starters, and there was something for every taste for our mixed party, ranging from Korma to Vindaloo. The service was also of a high standard, Well worth a visit.

The place looks great! Very swish! I was looking forward to a great experience but found the food disappointing and bland. I am known for preferring a smaller portion, but even I, thought the chicken pieces in the Chicken Rogan Josh I ordered were very small and the sauce was lacking in the flavours associated with Rogan Josh.

Had to think long and hard bofore rating this place. Reason being before our order was tanken I was watching our water writing SMS messages for about 5 minutes totally ignoring cliantel. See my picture contribution. But once he was back to real world, he was faultless. Came back from daytrip to Skipton and bus stops just outside this newly opened restaurant. Our hosts suggested we have an early meal here as they have been before and curry is really good. They were right. I like lime pickle which was on menu but rest wanted the pickle selection which did not include the lime. Our very helpfull water said this can be arranged and it was. The main courses was one of the best I had. The service faultless and decore moderne without the gaurish oriental replicas splattered all over. Fantastik meal and service. 5stars from all of us

Recently had a family meal at Cardamom one of the best curries I have eaten we all had a different curry and everyone enjoyed what they ordered can highly recommed it.

4 adults & 2 kids, They were very accommodating, Excellent choice of food and the portions were spot on. I shared my mixed starter with my 7 year old grandson and he loved it. Very tasty and not overly hot.

Busy restaurant however food served in a timely manner. Fish starter delicious. Rogan Josh and sagwalla for mains were well presented and good sized portions . Nothing really to dislike although but if you are seated next to the bar there is a lot of waiter action taking place !

Not quite sure why there are some negative reviews about Cardamom as I thought it was excellent. The decor is lovely, the service was friendly but most importantly the food was very good. I'm so happy there is finally a good curry place in Hebden as it's been crying out for one. I'll definitely be returning.

Table for 4, pre-booked for 8. Shown to table straight away and service from staff very attentive. Food excellent and time between courses just right. The whole experience was very good and only spoilt by a party of 6 who were extremely loud throughout the whole evening and were still very audible when we were leaving. Hopefully next time we go they will not be there.

We had our 2nd visit last night and had a great experience

It's been open a few months now and I have eaten in and regularly have a takeaway. Fabulous quality food and great friendly service, can't fault it! ... Butter chicken is excellent!!!

4 of us had dinner here. We had booked which was lucky as it was very busy.

The curries all tasted the same, fairly bland and the meat was not great. The staff were polite but not well trained and not clear on what was available on the menu, did not really understand the differnce between chicken tikka and normal chicken in a curry.

Visited this restaurant on Saturday night and were seated upstairs which was buzzing and full. Staff were really friendly and told us they were busy so our starters would take 20 mins or so which was helpful. They have a nice bar so no problem to get a drink and wait. We had Seekh kebabs and a Prawn Puri as starters which were deliciously spiced and full of flavour. Our Mains then took wee while but the waiter informed us and so again, much appreciated. We ordered a Chicken Tikka Chilli Masala and the special lamb Shashlik in a delicious thick tomato rich sauce. The vegetable fried rice, Keema rice, Chilli and garlic naan and tandoori rotis were superb. Wonderful fragrant curry dishes served piping hot with coriander garnish. The quality of everything was top notch and I would visit again next time I am in Hebden. The location is great right by plenty of good pubs and bars. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We called in at Cardamom after a walk around the beautiful hills and valleys surrounding Hebden Bridge, so were HUNGRY! We ordered a chicken Karahi ( our go to dish) and a Saagwala which I’d never heard of before along with pilau rice and garlic naan. The curries were absolutely beautiful, so tasty, particularly the Saagwala which I just couldn’t get enough of, yet unfortunately couldn’t finish as the portions were very generous. The naan was nice, light & garlicky but I have a bit of a problem with food being sweetened & to me this garlic naan was too sweet, bordering on peshwari! The restaurant has been tastefully decorated and the staff were very attentive and chatty. Think Hebden Bridge has been lacking a decent curry establishment & now here it is! We will definitely be back with friends. Oh & in case you’re wondering... of course I too the rest of the Saagwala home!

I went with friends to celebrate my birthday and had a lovely time. The restaurant was fairly busy but our food was served quickly by very friendly staff, and everything was spot on including special requests for things to be left out. I had a lamb jalfrezi which was tender, nicely spiced, and with a thick sauce. There were enthusiastic noises being made around our table about a range of other meat, veggie, chicken and fish dishes. The chicken chaat puri was much enjoyed. I was going to give a 4 rating but I was asked what they'd need to do to get a 5 and I couldn't think of anything, so a 5 it is.

Having been hopeful that the arrival of Cardamom would address the criminal lack of curry in Hebden Bridge, I’ve been left sadly disappointed. The decor of the restaurant is great, very contemporary and stylish, but unfortunately that’s where the great ends. Tables have been crammed into the tiny downstairs space; we we given one inches from the kitchen door, so were treated to a constant stream of waiting staff squeezing through, a banging door, and noise from the kitchen. As for the menu, there’s a decent choice of the usual staples, but don’t expect much by way of excitement. Chicken chilli masala was pleasant enough but pretty bland, lacking the kick of chilli that the dish promises. Naan breads were on the small side, and pre-cut into pieces (never a good sign). Service felt pretty rushed and a little careless at times. Overall an average experience that I probably won’t hurry to repeat, unfortunately.

Hebden has been short of a really good curry house for 20 years. Sadly it still is. Ordinary standard curries served at slightly above average prices. Nice people, good service, but food was poor.

Great to have a new quality Indian restaurant in Hebden at last. Great service and lovely surroundings. Two visits so far and more to come I’m sure!
