Captain's Table in Tandridge

Been using this Chippy for the last year, once and very often twice a week. The cod n chips are consistently excellent, as are the mushy peas and curry sauce. They do bread buttered rolls as well. We always have cod n chips every week and sometimes pie n chips same week too, portions of fish are big, very big! I tried the kids cod n chips and that’s massive! Prices are very very competitive and good value. The onion rings are something else and well worth trying. The service is always consistently outstanding which makes a big difference, as it’s no good having a good Chippy if the service is miserable (like Salisburys in Whyteleafe) the staff are fantastic here, friendly, efficient and polite every time. Would highly recommend if you’ve not been before. Cash only in case you’re not aware.

This is a much appreciated, friendly, reliable fish and chips take away. Great quality, good size fish including the usual cod, haddock, rock salmon, plus all kinds of smaller dishes such as fish cakes, cod roe, savaloys, sausages, gherkins, you name it. The chips are so good sometimes I buy a large portion to share. Staff are invariably cheerful and work quickly and efficiently, as they have to when it gets busy which it frequently does. Tip: avoid the queue: phone up and pickup, they will prepare your order in 15 minutes. Prices compare well with the local takeaways, and they also offer reduced prices for pensioners. NB: cash only!

At 13:30, in lunchtime's bright cheer, We hoped for those chips, to us held so dear. Yet they disappointed, not worth the fee, £2.90 for chips, as they ought to be. To The Captains Table, a message we send, Revive those chips, on which we'd depend. For in the heart of old London's song and tale, Good chips should never, ever fail.

Just the best fish and chips! Everything is cooked fresh, the fish and batter are light and not too greasy and the chips are delicious. Slice of lemon is a nice touch!

We have had great fish and chips from here previously but last night's experience was very disappointing. We pre ordered 3 haddock, a savaloy and 2 large chips. When we arrived to collect we were ignored by the girls serving who were too busy chatting about handbags and make up to acknowledge us apart from taking our money. The fish was fine but the chips were under cooked and had become one solid lump of potato. We couldn't even separate the chips. The savaloy was hard and cold. We weren't sure whether it was over cooked or undercooked! We will be trying to find another fish and chip shop sadly.

We pre-ordered nine portions of cod & chips with the request that the chips be well cooked as they are so often quite flabby in fish & chip shops. Fortunately we noticed in time that they can't count as we were only given 8 portions! This was rectified, which meant a bit of a wait as they cook everything to order. We weren't overly impressed with our meals as whilst the batter was crispy, the fish was overcooked and the chips, well - flabby! Maybe it was a bit of a tall order for a Bank Holiday Monday but we felt that having given prior notice, things should have been perfect.

Had 2 portions of cod and chips. Enormous portions , cooked to perfection. Light batter and flaky fish which melted in the mouth. Will definitely use again.

Looking for a fish and chips shop that was open before noon, my friend found the Captain's Table via Google. Ironically, there's no table and it's takeaway only. I got a senior discount, which is a smaller portion, but well worth the £2 discount. The portion size was satisfactory. Cooked freshly, to order, the fish was very tasty. The chips are also excellent. Family run, the lady at the counter was friendly and welcoming. Although not the cheapest chippy in South London, the quality makes it good value for money. This may be the best tasting fish and chips I've ever had. The only negative point is they are cash only and don't take cards.

Last Wednesday at lunch time I need some good food to counter the cold and rain. I wasn't expecting anything special but I couldn't have been more wrong. The fish and chips from Captain's Table were the best that I have had in many a year. The batter around the fish was thin and crispy and cooked to perfection. The fish was clearly fresh not frozen and the chips were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The people who prepare and cook the food obviously know their stuff and are Masters at their craft. Thank you for a wonderful and filling meal. I shall return!

I am SOOO disappointed. After reading the great reviews and rating for this tiny fish and chip shop, I was really looking forward to some good fish and chips. This was my first and last visit. It scrapes average, because my husband said his haddock was average (I have to say generous size) and the chips were proper chip shop chips. BUT my skate (huge piece!) and the haddock were absolutely dripping in fat/oil. It had soaked through the boxes and was pooling in the carrier bag. I have to say that that put me off straight away, but, in any event, I wasn't over impressed with my skate. When WuFlu is over, if you are mobile, try North Sea Fish near St Pancras Station. They have really spoiled me for any other fish and chip shop. Really sad to have to leave a not so great review.

Due to current restrictions, orders are made by phone to be collected at a chosen time. We both had cod and chips. Excellent! The fish was fresh, the batter light and crispy and the chips perfect. Portions are generous.

This is our local chippy how lucky we are to have this on our doorstep. No other chip shop comes close in the area.

Fantastic fish and chip shop, big portions of high quality fish, and excellent chips. We have never had a bad meal. Highly recommended.

Never ever had a bad meal here in 10 years or more . Nicest owner you will ever meet and ditto his wife . Massive fish with loads chips I never leave one . All freshly cooked boxed and lemon . Girls that work in shop always delight and takes Covid precautions seriously.

The best chippy for miles around! Fabulous food and really friendly staff. I've got a friend who is a fish and chips connoisseur and he reckons it's the best fish and chips he's ever had.

We regularly visit on a traditional Friday fish night. Freshly cooked fish in ample proportions served by lovely girls on the front desk are always a pleasure. Highly recommended.

They cook all food fresh so there is always a wait, especially when it's busy. It's most definitely not the cheapest fish and chip shop around, so don't expect it to be. However, it's well worth the wait. The food is lovely and they're very friendly.

The food here is great, it great to know that they do gluten free on 2 days a week , as not many fish shops do this, perhaps steam fish will be next

Been to this chip shop many times,food always lovely and fish cooked fresh everytime. If you are in a super rush phone order through beforehand. Staff and boss are lovely so friendly. A must visit if your in warlingham.

Very generous, piping hot, fragrant and crispy fish. Huge chips- my husband & I only need one between us. Smiling & helpful staff. You cannot pay by card however, cash only. There is a cash point right across the road however so no real issue there.

Owner and staff are always polite and friendly. We have a takeaway most Saturdays after horse riding. The staff have pride in their work and I cannot fault the food or service.

We use The Captains Table regular. Not only is it great value the fish is always fresh and cooked to order. The chips are proper freshly cooked as well. Staff are always friendly as well. Why would we go anywhere else.

Lucky to be so close - takeaway only but you won't go hungry. Lovely cooked cod in great batter - chips are great but far too many!! Served in box with lemon slice. What's not to like? Well worth the visit.

Delicious food, served fresh. The owner work in the kitchen himself most days. Staff always friendly and works very hard at rush times. I enjoy getting a meal there. Kitchen is nice and clean, portions are generous, good value for money - can't as for anything more.

This is a small but very busy Fish and Chip shop that serves in my view the best cod and chips in both the local area and beyond, the cod is always freshly cooked and has good texture with a crisp batter. The chips are also spot on. There is plenty of other choices on the board all at a reasonable price.
