If there’s one thing I know from my first-class days, it’s how to spot top-tier service and great food—and the tapas evening at Cap & Feathers in Tillingham did not disappoint. Four of us touched down for a night of food and fun, and we were in for a treat! Every table was packed, and yet the service was smooth, with friendly staff and that fire roaring away, adding the perfect cosy touch. Now, onto the food: prawns, chilli chicken, beef, and a paella that made us want to stay grounded for more. Those dishes were the stars of the night, bursting with flavour and seriously good value. It’s not every day you find a menu that matches the quality you’d expect at 35,000 feet! A special shout-out to Dave, the chef, who came out for a chat, making sure everything hit the spot. It’s those personal touches that make all the difference. And with the music and buzzing atmosphere, it felt like a full-on fiesta—no turbulence here! Honestly, it was an evening where everything came together perfectly—great food, great company, and even better service. I’ll definitely be booking another seat at this culinary flight!

I arranged for a large group of friends to visit the pub on a Saturday afternoon for a meal. We found out beforehand that the chef was on holiday that weekend. Helen arranged for us to have a buffet for 40 people. Everyone said how great it was. Everything was fresh. They couldn't of been more helpful. We will definitely be booking for next year too. Thank you all for making us so welcome.

We have just moved to the village. We have already had lunch and the Fox and Hounds so thought we would try the Cap & Feathers for its well known Sunday lunch. We reserved a table and were seated quickly on arrival. We weren’t sure what to do next as no menus on the table. We went to the bar and ordered drinks and were told someone would come over to take the food order. One of us had the Roast Chicken, one the Roast Beef and the other had mixed meats which included chicken, lamb and beef. The plate was full. The serving sizes are great. On top of what was on the plate (meat, potatoes, stuffing, roast parsnips, Yorkshire puddings and pigs in blankets) to accompany this we were given a bowl of vegetables to share which included cabbage, peas and carrots. This also came with a dish of cauliflower cheese and a gravy boat. All the condiments were on the table which included salt, pepper, English mustard, horseradish sauce and mint sauce. (I think that was everything) Would highly recommend for Sunday Lunch. It was delicious.

Have been by this pub many times over the years but today we remembered it for Sunday lunch. We weren't dissapointed. Chicken, lamb or beef were on offer and we both went for the beef. Soon a plate of beef , potatoes, stuffing, parsnips, pigs in blanket and a Yorkshire pudding turned up. Followed by five other veg including cauliflower cheese. Not forgetting a lovely jug of gravy. It was lovely but we couldn't eat all the veg although we tried. The pub had mainly locals but that's to be expected as its not really on the way anywhere but everyone friendly and it was very enjoyable. All staff very nice and yes the chef came out to ensure everything was okay and that we had enough to eat. A nice pub. Nothing pretentious. Not trying to do anything posh. Just good food, good beer and good atmosphere. Will go back with the dog and a walk next time.

Lovely little pub with a friendly vibe. We took my family for the first time and had a Sunday Roast which was very impressive. Tasty and plenty of it. No shortage of meat either. The Chef came out to us to check the meals and asked if we wanted any extras! following this was dessert which was also spot on. We loved it so much we are going again next week with friends for my Birthday.

Mate and I stopped off on our motorbikes today and rode through this lovely village and stopped for a pint in this Pub. Really happy we did as the pub is brilliant. Lovely and old, rustic apparently 700years old in places. If you like a real English traditional pub then the Cap and Feathers in Tillingham is not to be missed! Definitely going back this time with my family

We stumbled along to this wonderful pub and spent a couple of hours in the beer garden with our two dogs, we chatted to some regulars and were made to feel so welcome. Will definitely be visiting again when we are in the area.

Cap & Feathers is a pub I always visit when in the area and have done so for 40+ years. Great to see a new landlord (Sean) who is doing a brilliant job. My wife and I visited Thursday eve and was made very welcome. Beers are very good and reasonably priced, pub always looks and stays the same year in year out, as it should be. Plenty of character and charm unlike many old pubs that have had their guts ripped out. Keep up the good work Sean. See you again when next in the area.

We went to the Cap and Feathers yesterday and received the warmest welcome from Sean, the landlord, Sian the brilliant barmaid and customers. I’m moving into the village soon and everyone was so lovely I know I’ve made the right decision to move there. Thank you to everyone and I’ll see you again soon. James

I visited this pub and received a warm welcome from the new owners. We talked about spare change and how they plan to sell glasses in aid of the Essex Air ambulance. It is good that they are helping the community and I am sure once they settle in their new venture will be a success. All the best.

Can never fault them. Always friendly and always consistent with their food. And I've tried a handful of different things from their menu. If you haven't tried their new menu, you have to try their smoothies. Their mango smoothie tastes like summer and is my new addiction.I often get their stuff to take away and am never disappointed

Discovered this pub by chance a week ago when walking a local circular hike in the area. We called to see if they had a table and unfortunately they were fully booked. At the end of the hike we popped in for a drink. The pub is geared up for food mostly on Sundays, but the team were so accommodating and welcomed us to sit at the bar. The atmosphere was lovely - very traditional country pub vibes - with the staff knowing most customers by name. The team were so kind and accomodating, they even managed to squeeze us in for a Sunday Roast which we were so grateful for after our hike. Food was delicious, service was great and everyone was so friendly! We will be back!

We nipped in yesterday but even though they were just about to close (it was 4pm and we hadn't realised) they still took our order and served us. We had three lovely waffles. Really welcoming service and so grateful that they stayed open for us as the kids really enjoyed it. Lovely little place as well.

Just back from an excellent lunch after a lovely 6 mile walk starting and ending at The Queen Vic. Wonderful hospitality and the food was really good - very generous portions too.
