Almost at the end of the road, a single track road, it was a pleasant surprise to find a teeny tiny place for artisan coffee. The explanation is the location right opposit the Talisker Destillery. So if you plan to visit Talisker, pay this charming place a visit (or if you want a sip of what might be the best coffee in Skye, why not visit the destillery while you’re at it). They serve cake bars as well, and even though there is no place to sit down (it’s a tiny place), the view outside is great.

I'm a total coffee addict and this was definitely the best flat white I had during a week on Skye - actually it was so good I had two. The cakes are great as well. Caora Dhubh Coffee has only opened this year in Carbost - opposite the distillery. I take my hat off to the owners for having picked this spot and then to use such delicious-tasting coffee. Really, really impressed. The cakes aren't bad either! On a rainy day, it is a coffee cabin, so you are standing inside and there isn't a lot of space. However, on a sunny day or even on a cloudy day, you would be able to stand by or sit on the sea wall outside and enjoy the scenery. Plus, the owners use recyclable coffee cups and are really friendly. If Talisker or you are in or going through Carbost, make sure you stop at least once at Caora Dhubh.

Situated opposite the Talisker Whisky distillery this coffee shop is a great place to get some drinks and eats while you wait for your tour of the distillery. They boasted that the Victoria sponge baked by Cathy (I think) was the best anywhere so we tried it and it was spectacular. As a lover of great cakes this took the blue ribbon. The coffee was also excellent. Not much for seating but there's a great view and a nice walk along the road too. Bottom line is that if you have never had Victoria sponge cake this is the ultimate place to get it. Warning though, it will spoil you for anywhere else's cake. But who cares, just eat it here.

Agree with the other reviews. This is an unlikely place to find at the end of the world. We felt welcomed and in the main enjoyed our stay. The only downside was the cost for the 2 of us. £200 for a snack, breakfast, plate of curry and a bunkhouse bed with no shower and a outside toilet seemed breathtaking expensive. To put this into perspective, we go to a nice hotel each year for a winter break, that's more than we pay per day at the hotel with vastly more civilized amenities. I do understand there are logistics involved at Cape wrath. However for an 'ordinary' local Scottish person I'd be looking to stay at sandwood bay and make a lunch trip to the cafe as I simply can't justify the cost/value. However, it is altogether improbably situated and a must experience if you are doing a long walk. Just be prepae your expectations.

We stayed at Taigh Ailean for our trip to Skye. We also had the opportunity to eat dinner there (Breakfast was included with our stay.) The dinner was so delicious! The view is lovely as you can see the loch from the windows of the bar. All the staff is fantastic and so friendly! I had a great dinner and I would describe it, but the menu changes to suit what is in season and available from the sea. Whatever you get, I guarantee it will be the best! Make sure you call ahead and get a reservation as it fills up quickly. I know that they also have live music, which would be great, but we didn't have any while we were there.
