Loved it. This is a formula to be rolled out as quickly as possible (but more importantly IF) they want to. Which I doubt! Ambiance perfect, menu composition simple and brilliant, and above all delicious. Staff delightful, more than happy to engage in conversation about all and everything. Charming. I live in London, if only Canteen existed around the corner even at 2 or 3 times the price, I’d be there very very often. Thank you Canteen, I’ll certainly be back.

Stayed in St Agnes for a week, visited Canteen numerous times for lunch and had their Friday night dinner takeaway. Amazing food, great value and staff so helpful. They’ve really adapted to their COVID restrictions and everyone is made to feel welcome and still safely spaced out. They’re (rightly so) very popular so there can be a wait on tables, if you have this in mind and show patience it’s completely worth waiting for. Looking forward to the arrival of their cookbook and look forward to visiting next year.

The best coffee in Cornwall! Had a peaceful delicious coffee break whilst exploring the wild coast. Unique place, cool clothes shop next door, handmade surf boards, plants in baskets and coffee for sale

Very limited menu but that actually helps choosing. You also know its fresh and cooked that day and not frozen and warmed up. One meat-one veggie. Both invariably delicious. Not huge platefuls but enough and only £5. Lots of cakes for those with a need for sugar./

I had no idea what to expect when I arrived with colleagues for our pre Christmas team get together. This venue was absolutely great. The lovely sharing of delicious food and much chatting, made it a very special time. Every mouthful was delicious. I can't remember the official names of the dishes but the names didn't matter - the taste and textures spoke for themselves! Thank you for making us so welcome. My family are now jealous so I will be returning with them in tow! P. S. I have since read up on you and read your blogs etc. Your ethos, vision and actions are superb!

Have eaten here a few times and love their approach. 2 meal options are prepared daily to cater for 100 people. When it's gone it's gone. No individual tables, just a long one. Talk to fellow diners. It's a friendly place. Both meals cost £5, so don't expect huge portions. Just good food. Parking can be a problem because of other businesses around, and if you want to rate a place on the ability to park then this place is not for you.

We arrived at Canteen and had the warmest welcome possible. What a delight not having to make my mind up about what dish to choose - one meat and one veggie option. Tap water in jugs to drink. The food was delicious and really fresh - new food every day and shown on Instagram so follow them now! And at the end a cuppa for £1 and a cinnamon bun. Great atmosphere. Will def be coming back - reckon this place is a winning formula...an eatery with a heart.

Lovely food. This was recommended by a local friend and we weren't disappointed at all. We stopped for coffee and cake mid morning. Gorgeous home baked cakes (I had lemon and blueberry muffin hot out of the oven, and my friend had a cinnamon bun). Lunch was being prepared and looked amazing. Dog friendly, people friendly. Highly recommended... will be coming back!

One of the best value-for-money meals ever. Little choice but fabulous food - you can't book, you take your chances that you can get there before they run out of food ... at which point they stop serving. Always a meat option and a veggie option offered at ridiculously cheap rates & the Cinnamon buns are legendary. Service minimal - like at home. If you need something, you get up and get it! We all thought it was wonderful & will be back soon. Thank you!

Oh boy..... what a lovely lunch! My wife had a sweet potato veggie option while I had the chilli .... but what a chilli.... portion size perfect loved the presentation in a tin plate but artistically sprinkled with fresh salady bits... I loved it! Do get thee early... lunch starts at noon.... but you can do the coffee and cake thing before that. Parking is a bit dodgy but there is parking on the road with a three minute walk. £15 bought two lunches and two coffees.... so great value. A canteen is what it's called and basically what it is so don't expect great comfort but do expect great food. We shall be back.... with friends!!

Great to eat and even better that Canteen and Ben et al have a robust ethos - putting it ahead of the crowd. We always love the fare here and appreciate the hard work by all the people who work there.

Having read and heard good things I was looking forward visiting. The first thing to be aware of is that the parking is a nightmare. the day we went it was pouring down and blowing a gale. Not only was every space and every possible spare bit of ground choc-a-bloc with cars, it's not easy doing 24 point turns in the rain. There is no system in place, I drove round the perimeter expecting to come out the other side and cars from other units were blocking the way. so I had to reverse back along a narrow winding path in poor visibility. Eventually I ended up going back up to the main road and had to walk back down in the rain. This was a filthy Winter's day, so heaven only knows what it's like when the sun is shining! I was naturally more than ready to sit down and eat by this point. The £5 meal I had was

Can't praise this place enough. It's slightly off the beaten track, slightly off the wall, extremely well thought out and the prices will keep you coming back for more. With one meat and one veggie dish on offer, both equally scrumptious, served at a huge,...

We went for lunch at Canteen last Friday on a half-term visit to St. Agnes. If you're anywhere nearby, go! It's a great idea, brilliantly executed: two choices of delicious, top-restaurant-quality lunch, for £5 a plate, served on a communal table right inside the kitchen....

We popped in after a winter walk for a spot of lunch and we ordered the meat dish. It was chilli beef with pickle and carrot in a brioche roll. Yum yum scrum. We need more places like this in Cornwall.

Really trendy cafe in a great setting just behind the engine house at Wheal Kitty so not far off the beaten track from the village. Good coffee and cake.

As a another reviewer has said, I also am reticent about drawing attention to Canteen for fear of it becoming too popular! Canteen seems to be St Agnes’s little secret, the type of place we look for when we’re on holiday, the ‘locals’ favourite. Definitely...

Asked one of the locals where they recommend for lunch and was told about Canteen. Only a choice of two dishes one of which is veggie with a selection of lovely cakes. The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly. Wow!

I am a bit hesitant about writing this review. The Canteen is brilliant and the more people that know that, the busier it will get... We found it entirely by accident on a grey, wet Cornwall day, feeling very peckish. The Canteen is (unsurprisingly) canteen...

Dropped in for lunch on a Saturday, what a fantastic find!! Funky and quirky vegan cafe. Loved the layout and decor. Best chai latte ever. Absolutely gorgeous tofu tacos, and the squash salad was sooo tasty. It’s dog friendly too!! Young lady was on her own front of house, and the cafe was full, she was run off her feet, but she was brilliant - well done!! Now top of our list for lunching in Mousehole!

I have been here four times now, its become a thing whenever we come to Newquay, tattoo before I go home. The staff are incredibly friendly and always chatting away when you're there. They make you feel like part of the family. It's clean, tidy, always smells so good woth the cakes and coffee, I always feel like I'm home when I go in.

Very good B&B in a very central location. But it is very expensive so 'value for money' comes into question. Very good cooked breakfast served in the mornings but for the money it should provide freshly squeezed orange juice.

We found our way to Freathy Farmhouse Cafe by following a sign from Whitsand Bay. What a lovely find! Very rustic and charming cafe. We sat outside in the sun and enjoyed very generous sandwiches served with delicious salad. Some of us even managed cake! We will definitely return although I understand it is best to check opening times. Ps Loved the decor in the loo!
