I called in late and I wasn't disappointed!

ordered at 7:00pm through uber eats, order didn’t arrive until after 7:50. worst part is, we ordered gluten free cod & chips, however upon delivery the box wasn’t marked. thought this was strange but we’ve ate at this place before so i ate it. 2 hours later, non stop throwing up. thanks canny cod!

Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone got kebab meat and chips and gravy sauce tonight chips and gravy were alright but kebab meat was dry and cold hope I don't get food poisoning again 😅

Ordered a pizza and a kebab with chips on uber eats and it was hands down the worst takeaway I have ever had. The crust on the pizza was rock solid, the extremely small portion of kebab I received most of it was burnt and the chips were very bland. I genuinely wonder if this food has been recooked.

I’m a coeliac and to say that I finally found gluten free fish and chips. It did not disappoint, I ate it all!

Having ordered from here before, was really disappointing to have ordered to find they’ve been taken over. Over 2 hour wait on food, hung up on twice and no explanation as to why a delay

Went for fish bites and chips. £8.80 which is alittle on the steeper side I think. The chips are so oily I can’t eat them and the fish cod bites are cold. The man serving me was on his phone the full time. Heard good things about canny cod but unfortunately I won’t be coming back, food didn’t taste fresh and customer service was shocking.

Absolutely shocking! Not a single item was correct and everything I received tasted of dirty oil!! Terrible takeaway.

Worst takeaway I have ever had, and I don't normally leave Google reviews but this was ridiculous. Garlic and chili chips were cold soggy chips that tasted of dirty oil with Lidl garlic granules and chili flakes poured over right in front of us. Two chicken burgers were both beef when we got them and I am genuinely concerned about food poisoning. Inedible and a waste of money I can't get back. Avoid.

Been here three days at opening hours at different times and it was closed. Food is one star because I couldn’t taste any service is non-existent because they’re not open and atmosphere is an iron door/barricade in your face. screenshot attached with a timestamp for Sunday.

Delivery was two hours late, I called and they didn't apologise just said it would be ten more minutes. Food arrived cold obviously. The chips were burnt, the fish had been frozen and recooked was chewy and soggy.

Chips were more like crisps all 20 of them cod bites were more like grease bites and breadbun was tiny. Best bit of the meal was the can of coke

Daughter placed order online big mistake order was jumbo sausage and chips with garlic and battered beefburger with lettuce no sauce and a chicken burger No garlic with the sausage and chips the beefburger wasn't even battered properly just dipped in the batter scraps and it had sauce on possible mayo And yes it was ordered correctly First and last time we used canny cod

Portion sizes are OK, staff seemed new but helpful. Great selection and open on a bank holiday

Absolute joke , £8.80 for 5 mushy cod bites rammed into what looks like a chip butty. £27 for 2 adult melas one kids meal and the food is disgusting mush

Ordered Chips & Gravy along side a Large Battered Sausage for £7.20. A little bit expensive for the portion size. Food was nice, chips were average. Service was fast and friendly.

Missing items from order and wrong item sent, rude and shocking treatment from a member of staff who also hung up on my and claimed i was taking it to far when I was trying to explain my 10 year olds reason ( who is neurodiverse and sensory issues) for not accepting the wrong item. After many years of ordering from this shop I will certainly not be anymore.

Having placed an order and not all the food arriving, we called the shop and were told a driver would call out with the missing items, 20 mins later the driver arrived with 2 of 3 items. What was missing was my daughter’s deep pan pizza, which they sent out a thin crust by mistake, when we called again we were told by Connie (conny) that she would not be replacing it as she didn’t have time. Also she saw fit to make light of the fact we explained our daughter would only eat deep pan pizza given she is autistic and is very particular about food. Very poor service and would not recommend this place even after being a long time customer in the past.

I have been ordering from here for about a year because it has a veggie menu. They have been sending me meat chicken nuggets for a whole year. I cried when I found out. I was told the manager would get hold of me to apologise, they didn’t. Every order has taken 2 hours or over, always late. Most of the orders have had stuff missing. No refund or apology offered by staff in the chippy however the delivery guy was kind. This is THE WORST place I have ever eaten and I will be reporting to trading standards for giving me meat. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. People trust you to honour their beliefs and I feel sick thinking about this. I hope you get shut down.

I ordered fish and chips and pizza gluten-free. It was so tasty, not too much greasy. I really enjoyed it. Delivered, not too bad. Arrived on time, and food was still warm.Next time, we will have to order again.

Popped in for my lunch during work break,had sausage and chips with curry sauce,best chip shop chips I’ve ever tasted by a country mile,definitely be back when I’m working in the area

DO NOT RECOMMEND!! I ordered on Uber eats.. Ordered a “regular” cod, decided to request no chips so I could buy cheesy chips instead and have them both.. The cod by itself was £7.90 and the chips were £4 something. The fish was ridiculously small when it arrived, and had quite literally been cut in half, with us only receiving one half. On the photo you can see where it had been cut. Especially when the item is described as “regular” and the delivery photo is of a much larger fish. It also didn’t taste of much. And honestly it resembled one of those frozen fish fillets you can get from Asda but fried, to the point I’m actually considering it a possibility Plus, I also ordered a kebab wrap, and paid extra for both chilli and garlic on, which they didn’t put on it. The kebab meat was also EXTREMELY thick, about half a centre meter thick. The only decent thing was the fish cake, which wasn’t anything special. Curry sauce was mid and so was the mars bars

A proper friendly traditional fish n chip shop. All cooked fresh and hot. Staff very welcoming and friendly service. Will return soon. Well worth a visit if you're in the area

Ordered 1 gluten free and 2 normal fish and chips. I took mine out of the bag and hadn't noticed that two arrived with GF stickers. I picked one up and started eating it. It turned out that I'd started eating the wrong one. I'm coeliac so this is serious. Phoned to highlight the issue and was asked what do you want done about it. Take more care in your work basically. Not good enough! Pointless stating its gluten free when it's not. Poor service and extremely greasy. Worst!!

Great little shop everything cooked fresh! Me And my little girl really enjoyed it got a gluten free menu too which is perfect for her. Definitely be back!

The food was delicious. The range of gluten free options was extraordinary. I had gluten free cod with chips and everything was crisp and lovely. My husband and our son were also very happy with their "glutenous" fish and smoky.

Not good tried to cancel order but got delivered anyway they went in the bin disgusting for the money they charged, the grease was seeping out of the bottom of the box never again !!

Ordered around 9.30 only to watch the delivery time switch to later. As the clock turned 11pm I was sure it wasn't going to turn up. So I phoned them only omg they could not have been any nicer apparently a driver had had an accident so everything was going slow Mo. Revived my piping hot order at 11.15pm. Will definitely go back as food was lush.

Phoned up and ordered for delivery spoke to the manager he was very friendly and helpful on what to order , food got delivered quickly was still boiling hot and delicious i recommend to order from the canny cod the pizzas and loaded fries was unreal packed with toppings and sauces also good with the gluten free menu should order in good price range aswell

We tried Canny cod for the first time and preordered on Uber 2 hours before delivery for 6.30pm. We get a message on Uber eat at around 6.50pm that the order was cancelled, we called the shop to ask why. They said whoever accepted the order forgot to print it off so they hadn't made the order. We voiced our disappointment as we had been sitting there waiting for ages and our food wasn't actually getting made. We asked how long it would be and they said another hour because they had 2 orders before us, I mean no offense but if you know you messed up then I think you should really be getting the order to the customer ASAP. They said the would offer us some discount but we had enough and decided to take our business elsewhere. Don't accept pre orders when you can't deliver the service and do it right.

Absolute shambles to order from the canny cod. Bwwn sat waiting for our food for 2.5 hours now and still nothing. These guys are a joke! DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE GUYS! Reply to canny cod....upin phoning you several times, nobody answered and we had no message or phone call to state there was an issue. I appreciate you were busy but if that's the case then stop taking just eat orders on the night if you can't deliver within an acceptable time frame. On delivery there was no apology and so hence my poor review of your service. Steps should be put in place to manage expectations and when ordering food at 8pm at night, i don't want to then eat at 22.30!

My son wanted traditional fish and chips and I took him there because I used to buy from them 22 years ago. We found out that these are new guys on the block. Nevertheless, happy people with a good heart.

I’m a coach driver who just dropped off a load of noisy students after a 4hr drive, noticed the A-board for the chippy on the main road and decided to nip in before my drive back down south…so glad I did! The best fish n chips I’ve had from a chippy in a long time! Bit pricey perhaps but worth it in my view. If you like crispy batter on your fish then you’re in the right place. It was cooked for my order too 👌🏻 the waig to be served was a tad long but it was obvious they had many, many telephone/internet orders to fulfil, which to me only proved I was visiting a popular place. i will definitely come back again if I find myself up these ways, that fish n chips was divine. Proper cheery friendly staff too :)

Ordered some gf food tonight, absolutely gorgeous as normal. I really don't understand the negative reviews I always love the food. I was waiting an hour for delivery which is quite a while,but on a Friday night I expect it to be busy so completely understand,I ordered through the website and wasn't given a delivery time so not like it was late. Considering an hour delivery the food was still hot when arrived. Only thing I would say would make this place better for me would be gf chicken nuggets pleaseeeee

Just had a delivery and the chips were soggy and the greasiest I have ever seen from a chippy. Managed 3 chips before throwing them in the bin. Pretty poor when it's a "Chip Shop". Not normally like this but won't be returning.

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE. The people running it are as rude as anything. Unprofessional, food never got to us and he hung up on us multiple times. The delivery driver couldn't find us, we gave clear instructions of what corner the building was on and I quote, she said "that was very unhelpful". We then phoned the restaurant and they kept shouting at us and cutting in when we were trying to explain the situation and how easy it was to use google maps to find us. This exact address has been given to multiple drivers over years because it is student accommodation and indeed we have successfully used it on numerous occasions over the last few months, so we fail to see how this driver was unable to find us. We asked for a refund after they cancelled the order on us, they said they don't handle refunds (lies) and deliveroo do, but deliveroo said the restaurant was in charge of the refund. So the restaurant kept hanging up on us and not picking up our calls. Understandably, we became frustrated with the terrible customer service we received, so maybe our voices got louder than they normally would (but again we had been waiting over 2 hours for our food, we were very hungry and upset at this point). To be honest, I do not need to give an excuse for anything, as we were immediately hit with hostility from both the driver and the person on the phone. No respectable place would cut you up or hang up on you when you are trying to explain a situation. We paid a lot of money for food that never got to us and to be treated awfully. Since reading reviews, I don't think we missed out on much. They have since tried to lie to deliveroo about delivering the food when we did not receive it. They refused to cancel it, so they could keep our money. They wanted us to cancel on the app so we would have to pay for it. They have since completed the order on the app (after telling us they are cancelling it because they couldn’t find us) as if to say it was delivered to us. That’s a complete lie. They are disgusting people. DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM. UPDATE: Since speaking to Deliveroo and have wonderful customer service with them, we phoned the fish and chip place back to explain the situation to them calmly (I stated that Deliveroo are not in charge of the refund, the place we ordered from is, I stated that they knew this and they just didn’t want to give us our money back and that it was just getting a little silly); I was immediately met with hostility by the manager on the phone who shouted at me, interrupting me when I was explaining the situation, called me a liar pretty much and stated that what Deliveroo told us the fish place had said about our order was untrue (after reading other reviews about the hospitality of this place, I’m shocked they’re still in business) and then hung up after I tried to ask him kindly to not shout at me and listen to me. I am Autistic and this has left me feeling very shaken and upset. I did not deserve to be treated this way by a company I paid with my hard earned money and trusted to give me a service.

As a university student too busy on his studies to even cook himself a meal one night, I went to Canny Cod on a cold evening and treated myself to a large cod and chips. Great portions and taste, staff were friendly as well.

Ordered through just eat, order was confirmed at 13:04 wasn't delivered till 15:10. I understand businesses can get busy but a 2 hour waith for a kebab wrap, small chips and two regular cod and chips is a joke. They also forgot to send the tartar sauce, it was all freezing cold. Sad to say but I won't be back here.

Needed a feed before my long 5 hour journey home, after completing the Great North Run... Ordered the haggis with chips (x 3 for 3 of us). Requested it be boxed as we only had the car to sit in and eat (it was raining) - refused to Box and stated that boxes were only for meals with sauces ?!@??? I offered to pay for a box but still got a refusal. Customer service NOT at its best. Food wasn't too bad, may have got a 5 star if it wasn't clumped together in a bag. *** Additional Edit following reply from manager *** There seems to be a pattern with responses, going down the line of "Staff were doing as instructed" - but this doesn't mean they were always in the right. Then the reply somehow turns towards putting the blame on the customer or making out that the customer is making things up.... I can assure you in this case that I did indeed offer to pay for a box but was told that they had no prices available on the till. If it was me dealing with a customer in this case, I'd have simply put it through the till as a carrier bag or anything similar in price in order to satisfy my customers request.

The food is always beautiful and as coeliac it’s amazing to have gluten free food- however delivery times are shocking 9/10 times- like 1-2hour wait. We often have to call to chase and often variety of reasons why it’s late. We do order again though as only place that delivers gluten free fish and chips. Would be 5 star if solved delivery issue

I really love this local business. So friendly. Always a welcome conversation when you arrive. The owner is one of life's good guys. There for the community not just business. Couldn't rate this place enough. The food is fantastic too, especially on a Sunday when the menu doubles to include roasts. Go visit, I bet you will feel the same after your finish eating !! Glenn

What a dirty dump of a shop stil gave it a go as sometimes you can get decent food in the old traditional places how wrong was I cod and chips in the bin and a kebab well lost for words like rubber worst I've ever had even Iceland micro is better and the pizza think it was a frozen one. Shocking

Excellent gluten free selection, let down by poor service. Requested a box rather than a bag for the fish and chips as it was for the kids in the car to eat on way home. Refused and told sorry owners don’t allow it as the boxes are only if sauce is added to the meal!!!!eh?’ridiculous, all the food just turned into mush in the bag.

Got a lot of chips which were decent. Gravy was nice. Got a pepperoni pizza which was undercooked and a garlic bread which was just a garlicky pizza base and was incredibly bland.

Now you're world famous due to the TV special, We are Newcastle United. Howay the lads. Definately trying your Fish'n' chips when we come back home from Canada.

Always a lovely atmosphere walking into the shop. Foods always 10/10. Gluten free fish is always delicious too, with a nice light batter. Not sitting in grease like some chippies. All prepared as you wait all using seperate fryers and utensils. Very thorough. Quite a range of GF products too Even normal batter has a nice taste to it too. Again not greasy, our favourite chippy!

Ordered Sunday lunch for the first time (mince and dumplings) and it did not disappoint. Fresh veg, homemade yorkies and a great portion. The mince in gravy was fantastic.

Just paid nearly £20 for by far the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. The full takeaway was an actual embarrassment- the chips needed reheated as they were freezing cold and undercooked, think they mistaked a large cod for a cod bite and the curry sauce was the watery powder one. Waste of money and definitely won’t be ordering anything else from there.

Good straightforward service. Batter a bit cracked up on my fish but the chips were lovely and greasy. App ordering service very nifty, if a bit unnecessary.

Down in Newcastle for a meeting, late into the hotel room so my friend ordered some food, I had chips/gravy and a portion of mushy peas. Three hours later the pain I suffered and continued to suffer all the way home to Scotland on 3 trains and for the next 3 days was horrendous, I was so ill, I was close to going to a&e. AVOID!!

I ordered fish & chips. Fish was fresh, however the chips were tasted like few day old. The portion was quite big. I went there just because of good ratings and I will not come back there anymore. Also, they are charging 80 p for a little bit of mayo. Two stars for not bad fish and portion.
