Canaca in Newcastle upon Tyne

Food is generally good, although they do sometimes mix orders resulting in literally a 'mixed bag' of food. Where this place let's it down is service, there seems to be nobody who is in charge and the staff seem poorly trained. They don't even know their own menu and ordering is often a chore - the iPad till set up should be fairly straightforward to use but even this confuses their front of house staff. Top marks for the Katsu Curry, and the wraps are good.

You can see why this is the most popular dish great for a quick bite at lunch. Really friendly welcoming atmosphere and great food 100% recommend.

I went with the whole family. My son loves the restaurant. Chicken katsu curry is my husband’s favorite. 真的非常喜欢，吃了这里的咖喱鸡肉饭，再不会去别家。非常好的推荐。五星好评。

Pedí dos artículos del menú de la caja de arroz griego Gyros y una envoltura de filete y queso. La caja de arroz llegó bien. Sin embargo, la envoltura de bistec y queso que se había mordido había cambiado en una envoltura de pollo de búfalo. Al preguntar, nos dijeron que el bistec se había acabado y que el chef había decidido cambiar el menú. Lo sentimos, no volveré y no recomendaré Canaca como un lugar para comer

The women was very helpful with me wanting to change parts of my order which i wasn't too keen on, she didn't have an issue. The loyalty card and student discount is also a massive bonus.

Had the sweet and sour stir fry noodles with chicken, and wanted to be slightly awkward in my order by asking for some extra of the katsu curry sauce. They were more than happy to do so, and the food was delicious. Really recommend this place, even if you have a slightly awkward order like mine.

Great wholesome food (couldn’t eat it all), chicken was beautiful. Bit of a wait but that’s what you would expect from lunchtime in Newcastle. Good student discount aswell, looking forward to going again next week!

I regularly go to Canaca for my lunch, if I want something substantial. It's very reasonably-priced, the service is friendly and quick, and the food is invariably excellent (and pretty healthy for fast food!). I usually go for their rice boxes (their Katsu Curry and Thai Green Curry are particularly good), and I'll be working my way through the other options over the coming year!

Had the Japanese katsu chicken. Came extremely quick and was really tasty, could have done with a little more sauce as it was slightly dry. However can’t really fault the place. Quite high prices. Overall good spot to eat.

This place is a good lunch spot. You won't regret trying it. I ordered the kimchi chicken wrap with fries. I have explained below what I think the strength and weakness of this meal were. Pros: BIG serving. Wraps the size of your forearm. Generous with meat. Fresh crunchy salad. Pretty tasty all round. Chips nicely spiced. Staff very nice and helpful. Cons: WAY too much mayonnaise - overtakes any other flavour in the wrap. Chips were a little soft and the only let down with them was this texture issue. 10 minute wait for the food is acceptable but not ideal. In sum,I'll be going again but asking for no mayo this time. Hope this place gets off the ground as its a really nice idea.

Visited here a few times now. Quick and Easy with friendly service. Plus the food is very nice. Particular favourites are Thai green currry Noodles and Katsu Curry with Rice. and the chips are really nice too

I had the Thai green curry recently and while the food was ok throughout the duration of my meal all I heard was a dark haired lady shouting and it was really off putting. I don’t think I’ll be sitting in again the vibe was just too stressful.

I enjoyed the prawn stir fry but the ambience was a bit off, and the staff (fair enough they were busy) were slightly unfriendly. Tasty noodles though

This is my new favourite place to eat in Newcastle! I've visited twice within the last few weeks. The restaurant is bright and extremely clean, staff are cheerful and friendly and really care about ensuring every customer has a great experience. The food is delicious, very good quality and full of flavour. There is so much choice and all well priced, I could visit everyday for weeks and not at all become bored. The Syrian shawarma wrap, Greek halloumi and guacamole wrap, Japanese katsu chicken curry and molten chocolate brownies with icecream were among some of the lovely dishes I've sampled here. There are a good choice of soft drinks, hot drinks and alcohol beverages to suit all. There are great variation for my vegetarian and vegan friends, as well good deals including meal deals with drinks and sides! We will be back!

This place is decent enough for a quick lunch and is reasonably priced. Service was friendly and fairly quick.

The drink i had was lovely but the chap that served me didn’t understand what veganism meant - i was offered egg and he went to put honey in my drink. Lovely guy and great service but i feel like this should be understood if you are serving food. I would go back and try again.

So pleased I stumbled across this place...food is delicious! And prices are so reasonable, love it...great decaf coffee also.

From the outside looks rather garish and fast food like but the food is adventurous, seating is pleasant and they have several vegan offerings when you look at the menu - shame they are not clearly marked. Good quality ingredients at good prices. I will visit here again when looking for something vegan in the city centre

plenty of choice on the menu, great tea and coffee, a good selection of other drinks including bottled beers, great staff and surrounding, not expensive, good value for money, good service, toilets kept clean. Offers take out.

Called in to get something different to eat on the train. Told staff I was going to eat on the train, they wrapped my food to help keep it warm.

Lovely fresh and tasty food served by lovely smiley and friendly servers. Nice relaxed atmosphere inside with plenty of plug sockets and WiFi available. Also tables outside.. weather permitting. Already cheap prices even cheaper with student discount! Only thing to mention is that food is served on paper trays not porcelain plates which I know some don’t like but doesn’t bother me. Definitely will visit again

The food overall is amazing especially for it's variety coming from a vast range of different cultures. The price is also perfect for the quality of the food. As soon as you walk in the door the staff provide a great quality of service and at 15% student discount you can't really complain. I visit this restaurant quite frequently and find that I can't choose my favourite thing on the menu due to how great the entire variety tastes. They also due a great deal for sides and drinks and serve really good breakfast takeout food. I'd highly recommend canaca to anyone in the Newcastle area who wants good food without having to wait for a long time for it to be ready. 10/10.

Have visited about 3 times now, food is always excellent, staff are always really friendly and prices are very good( also offer student discount). Would definitely recommend.

the customer service at Canaca was amazing, such lovely staff and the food was just as good!!! I really enjoyed my visit and i will definately be going again. My whole experience was just perfect. As soon as I walked into the door I was greeted friendly and staff even waited patiently as I decided what to order even thought I took a while haha!

During a lunch break from work the 3 of us decided to pop into Canaca & the food was fantastic… as you can see from the photo – they definitely don’t skimp on the portion size & all products come with a 15% student discount! Definitely a bargain & we shall be back very soon.

I had the vegetable and chilli tofu noodles, choice of thick or thin noodles, I went with thick. Thankfully wasn’t too hot as I’m not very good with spicy food. Service was quick and the food was fresh and flavoursome.

Canaca offers something a little different to other cafeterias in the area, with a menu including both Asian dishes such as noodles and western fare like burgers and wraps.

I've been coming here every week or two since they opened in December and I've liked everything I've tried. The smoothies especially are nice. The staff is all helpful and friendly, and the cafe has a really nice atmosphere and clean, inviting decor. The student discount is a nice bonus! I look forward to seeing what changes Canaca makes over the next few months.

I welcomed the idea of a new place in the city centre serving '' tasty, natural fast food''

I bought a take out lunch from here today. Went for the lamb tagine which I thought would be really nice and warming on a cold day. It was only Luke warm which was disappointing. The small box it came in was 90% rice and four mouthfuls of tagine (I counted). Taste wise it was fine but pretty bland. At over £6 a portion it’s not expensive but also expected a bit more. Felt It was overpriced and I wouldn’t go back. The wraps etc sounded nice and are cheaprr maybe I should have gone for one of those

I'd been looking forward to visiting this cafe as they have so much vegan choice. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed by the crunchy vegetable and chilli tofu noodles. They were very oily- there was a puddle of oil at the bottom of the container- and I couldn't taste any tofu. The service we received by the person who I assume to be the manager was fantastic however, the customer service we received from the person who took our order wasn't great. The food seems to be served in take away cartons rather than a plates which isn't very environmentally friendly. I liked the clean, modern feel of the cafe but thought the food was a little on the pricey side for what it was.

Food was great. Very filling. Portions were large. Service was good. Had the Japanese curry. It came in a card box which was nice cuz I could take it away with me.

Great way to get a good coffee with noodles. The noodles are nicely packed for to go or eat in and taste freshly made. Feels like home cooking.

Came here about two weeks ago with a bunch of friends from university, and it ended up being the perfect little place for us to meet and eat good food. The cafe was so decorated very nicely and I was really impressed by it. The menu choice was brilliant and their smoothies were the highlight of the meal. Can't wait to come back.

One of the most recommended plc for those who desperately crave for any asian food. I tried spicy king prawn and it's full of asian taste. Excellent service and spacious place so suitable for you who wants to hang around with friends or fam.

This new cafe just open about five minutes away from my university. They have a very cute room design and the staffs were very welcoming and nice. The food were really nice. I came with a bunch of friends and we ordered burgers and noodles. And let me just say, it definitely make my stomach happy! The smoothie (drinks) was lush! The vibe was giving a sense of the Asian culture which was great! Due to this, I think this cafe would be great for people with different backgrounds and get to taste the unique culture of Asian food. Overall, it was definitely delicious and great service from the staffs!

I tried the turkish kofta wrap as recommended by a friend and it was SUPER TASTY! The portion was just the right size, it's not too big (as I'm on a diet) but still big enough that I got enough chunks of meat and left with a full stomach. I can taste the smokiness of the meat and the savory of the sauce at the same time. I also tried my friend's spicy prawn noodles and the taste is just authentic! The berry smoothies was very fresh too. I think it's perfect for someone who has a busy daily schedule but wants to eat healthy, because their service are pretty quick and they're located in the city center so you can grab them on the go to campus/work. There are lots of student discount too on their facebook page. And good for me, I live literally across the street from canaca, so I'll definitely be a loyal customer!

I had katsu kimchi wrap, Japanese katsu curry rice, and green something juice (i forgot but it's at the top of the juices menu). Katsu kimchi wrap was amazing, the juice too. But for the Japanese curry i think for my taste it needs a little bit of spice.

very nice service, clean and spacious area with a very delicious food. i tried the spicy king prawn and pepper noodle, it has 100% Asian taste! the food is fresh and tasty. they served it very fast, good for those who r in a hurry.

Tried the spicy king prawn and pepper and it was lovely!! It tasted way better than I expected. They are also generous with the prawns. It tastes so Asian which I like and they have different types of noodle to choose! The salmon and egg muffin is also really nice! the salmon tastes fresh! will come back

Service was extremely nice, and food was fresh! Amazing place for groups and chilled lunches. Extremely clean and a fresh looking area in a really good spot right in centre of town right near Tesco express so it’s easy for uni students to get to.
