What a restaurant. The kind of charming, crumbling, beautiful building that feels like you're in a southern Italian village, not a Hackney backstreet. Kind staff who know their stuff. The food is excellent. The wild hackney bread and oil was so good we got it twice. Killer pasta. A breeze block of a tiramisu. Cannot recommend enough. Great place to cosy up with a date.

What a quaint little gem off of the Columbia Road flower market. Drifted over because of the lovely garlic aroma, stayed for the handmade freshly made pasta (you can see all the equipment in the back). Exposed brick converted barn feel and open kitchen, it's giving hygge homey vibes. Small portions of very al dente pasta served up on handmade plates just add to the atmosphere. Plus, there is a sleeping cat!

I’ve wanted to go to Campania ever since I moved to London three years ago, so I finally booked it for my birthday. Despite ticking the special occasion box, there was no acknowledgement the entire time. The waitress that showed us to our table wasn’t welcoming at all and we were seated right at the back in a separate room all by ourselves which made for a really disappointing experience, especially for a birthday. I wasn’t wowed by anything we ordered - the ragu and meatballs in particular we ordered. The bill came to £180 for three people despite not ordering much wine at all, and now I feel so guilty having asked friends to spend so much on my birthday meal with not much to show for it. Really gutted if I’m honest.

Definitely some good dishes, but there are many places that are better and less expensive than Campania imo. Service wasn’t great, and so much for the fantastic atmosphere; not so much where we were, so close to the entrance door it was virtually outside (a cold Thursday last week didn’t help) / it slightly felt like we had to greet everyone that walked in.

About 3.5 stars based on my experience. First of all the menu and food is authentic and very tasty, loved that part! Also the prices match the location, fair enough. Sadly our server was very unfriendly and standoffish, the whole floor staff gave this vibe away. Also the place looked very untidy, I am not saying it wasn’t clean, but it looked in need of a good bit of scrubbing, a general refresh or a more attentive staff. This one experience was enough. Huge shame, because they food is great! Well done to the kitchen staff!!!

Sundays are walk ins only so you may have a wait. We got there as they opened so luckily got a table straight away. Food was great, tasty, authentic Italian but servers were miserable, no smiles, no welcome. We get it, it’s Sunday it’s hot (No Aircon) and you don’t want to be at work but making paying guests feel welcomed is part of hospitality (which in London is so bad nowadays) Everything seemed a drag from recommending dishes to explaining the menu. We were there at beginning of service so god knows what the service is like later in the day. Would not go back here based on the cold unwelcoming service. Then want a tip! 😲

We booked Campania to celebrate a friend's new job, and although the food was lovely, the service really let down the experience. It took a while to have our order taken, and although the waitress was helpful explaining the menu to us, the experience went downhill from here. Our food (3 people) all came at different times (15 mins difference altogether), and 2 of us had cold / lukewarm food served. No one asked us how the meal was during it. When the bill came, we were asked around 6-7 times by the waitress how much we would be tipping her, and she proceeded to ask this to all three of us each time the card machine came. She seemed visibly annoyed when we asked to just pay the bill. This made us incredibly uncomfortable, and at the end of the payment she said 'right, no tip then'. Although the food was nice, we wouldn't come back here purely due to this experience.

We recently visited Campania and were quite taken by the lovely location and charming decor. The atmosphere was nice, creating a pleasant setting for our meal. However, the experience was marred by the service we received. This was my second time visiting the restaurant and I cannot say the experience was better the first time, but we thought we would give them a second chance as the food was delicious the first time we visited about a year ago. The staff seemed rather inattentive, rarely smiling, and somewhat hurried. Within the first 10 minutes of being seated, we were asked for our order three times. When it came to serving the wine, instead of pouring it, they simply left the opened bottle and glasses on the table, which felt a bit impersonal. As for the food, it was a mixed experience. We had three antipasti, two pastas, and one main dish between the two of us. Unfortunately, everything except the pasta was under seasoned and rather mediocre. The pasta, however, was delightful and definitely the highlight of the meal. At the end of our meal, we asked for the bill, and were promptly informed that they needed the table back in 10 minutes. While we had finished our wines and were ready to leave, it did make us feel a bit rushed. It's a shame because the location and atmosphere had so much potential. With some improvements in service and seasoning, this restaurant could truly shine.

I went there for set lunch. Let’s start with the good thing - excellent atmosphere! Beautiful plates, tables, and indoor decor. Food tasted ok but the portion was really small for a £20 set lunch. Also if you’re not drinking beer or wine, you can only pick sparkling water. No soft drink, not even a coffee option? Service - poor. 1. Arrived on time and waited for 15/20 min to order as they hadn’t printed the menu. 2. Staff never came to ask how our dishes were. 3. However, the staff remembered that tips were not included in the bill and hinted that at the end! Did they not know their service was poor? Hugely disappointed.

Campania is truly one of the best restaurants in the East London and is defined by its wholesome ambiance and outstanding menu. Tucked away in a side street off Columbia Road, the restaurant is located in an old workshop of which the original features, including a wood-fired heater, are preserved. Campania sticks to a classical Italian menu with charcuterie and antipasti for starters, a selection of primi and secondi dishes, and desserts classics such as Tiramisu and Panna Cotta. Seafood occupies a considerable portion of the menu, which was a positive surprise among the menus dominated by ‘nduja and seared meats so often found in small-plates restaurants. What defines the restaurant in this case is perhaps not the inventiveness of its menu, but its execution. I have seldom tasted a ragù in which the flavours were so expertly balanced and the pasta was so perfectly cooked. The sea bream all’acqua had an unbelievable depth of flavour that made it hard to believe that this was indeed a white fish. The tuna steak, too, was excellent. In keeping with the quality of the mains, the Tiramisu was everything one could have hoped for from such a classic dish. Portion sizes are more than generous, such that I was left with the nowadays rare feeling of being slightly too full upon leaving the restaurant. The wine menu, not to be overlooked, is a delight, and shows that the wines selected for presentation were chosen with care and an attention to detail for particular tasting notes that match the flavour profile of the food. Sticking to individual glasses here proved of better value than ordering a whole bottle, and had the added benefit of being able to try more of the wines. If there is room for improvement, it is in the service, which was friendly but perhaps slightly too casual, requiring explicitly calling for attention rather than being checked on every now and then as one would expect from a restaurant at this price point. The timing of the courses was handled better than at most other London restaurants, but the courses were still brought in slightly too quick succession. This is undoubtedly a symptom of a larger issue among London restaurants. At most, however, these are minor issues that do not distract from the overwhelmingly positive experience that dining at Campania’s was.

The visit to this restaurant was a disappointment. The ambiance and atmosphere are very nice, but the service and food were below the average. The waiter that was attending our table seemed tired and lost. All three pasta dishes that we have ordered were overcooked. Ravioli in particular as the dough was so overcooked, it was mushy and the same texture as the stuffing. With such price ranges this was a true disappointment.

I was excited to try this place, but the experience didn't meet my expectations. The restaurant's ambience is lovely and cozy, perfect for a quiet date. I appreciated the bespoke wooden interiors and artisan tableware. As it's a small establishment, expect longer-than-usual wait times on Sundays, especially during Flower Market opening hours, as it's located right next to it. We waited 1.5 hours, despite being initially told it would be an hour. I understand factors like these are beyond their control, but it still wasn't pleasant. The server we had seemed rather unfriendly, possibly overwhelmed with customers. They ran out of ragu after we placed our order, and there was no wifi in the restaurant. It was disappointment after disappointment. We quickly finished our food and left. It's not my favorite experience, and I wouldn't particularly recommend it. I don't think it's worth the wait.

Well, we were upset by the unprofessional and rude service we got. We ordered starters and mains, along with a bottle of wine, and before we knew it, the mains were plonked down like a flash after the starters – I mean, how on earth were we supposed to eat our starters that quick? Not a soul bothered to check in on us to top up our water. Then out of the blue, a waitress put the bill on our table. And while we were still sipping on our wine, she popped back over with a card machine, offering to settle up. I told her straight we hadn’t asked for the bill nor were we planning on leaving just yet. She goes on about them closing up at 5 – fair enough, but she should’ve mentioned that from the start and then politely asked if we were alright with settling the bill. The whole service felt a bit high-and-mighty, and we didn’t exactly feel like we were welcomed. Now, the interior was great, cosy, rustic. The food was alright, though overpriced. Starters were a bit on the dull side, and don’t even get me started on the tiny portion of olives.

I have been meaning to come here for a long time but again fooled by the pretty pictures. The restaurant is located in a little street near Columbia flower market. Inside, its rustic and warm with a few tables at the front, few in the middle and a few at the back. The food was good. Ravioli sauce was a little watery but it was tasty. The antipasti starter and Gnudi were delicious. Portions are small and prices are big. Staff: They were mean. They sat us down and after that treated us like we should not be there. One of the waitresses threw the menu at us and went flying. I had brought a friend who I was seeing after a long time and I was embarrassed to go through this. I have not been seen this kind of service in a restaurant for a long time. They placed (threw) things in silence on the table and they were cold and rude. Then she approached with the bill, with a judgmental face and placed the card machine infront of us in silence and after this could not wait to leave this place. The whole experience was ruined because they had some kind of attitude, no smile or warm approach and didn't bother to make any effort to make their customers feel welcome. It was extremely disappointing but perhaps this can be improved and it will be a lovely place. Thank you

Unfortunately the service was awful for several reasons: - We received all our food before even our wine arrived - At 9:45p, we were told we only have 5 more minutes because the table has been booked. We had just started eating dessert and felt very rushed; the server brought us the bill without asking if we wanted anything else (we wanted to have a digestif but then couldn’t), and they started cleaning up as we were still eating. Our original reservation never said a time limit, and even if it did, telling customers they have to leave in 5 min when they just got dessert is absurd. - The server never walked us through the menu to explain the dishes; we had to use Google translate to figure it out. I don’t mind doing this, except that she then explained every single thing in detail to the table next to us. - She also gave incorrect information. When I asked what a torta Caprese was, she said it was a dense nut cake…but it was a chocolate cake. - We were sat right next to the restaurant’s cat, and my husband is very allergic to cats. They should be clear if there are going to be cats in such a small space, it’s a bad experience to be sneezing through the meal. Pastas and wine were good but the rest of the food was average. I would have recommended this place for the vibe but the service was just so bad that I can’t do that.

The steak was cooked medium rare and was so soft and tender to eat. The food came out piping hot! Some of my photos are a little blurry because of the steam from the food. The tiramisu was to die for, the torte was average imo. Staff were polite and nice but nothing above and beyond. It was our anniversary and I wanted to go to this restaurant for a long time, as the atmosphere seemed very romantic (and we had informed them about our anniversary). We go there and they sat us next to the toilets, there was a hen or birthday party in the private room(next to the toilets) so it was annoyingly loud, the staff would not pay any attention to us, we had to ask twice for the menu, the menu doesn’t explain much about the ingredients and lastly I ordered truffle risotto and I got a plain mushroom risotto. Me and my husband could not taste or smell the truffle at all, which is unacceptable, since you are paying £30 for the truffle. Its a pity, since the interior of the restaurant seems so rustic and authentic.

I think perhaps, we were very unlucky because if you look at the prior ratings and the popularity one would expect a lot more. The service was not good at all on this specific night - the kitchen lost our order, then when the appetisers eventually arrived one of them were also wrong. They tried to make up with removing 2 glasses of wine from our bill but the experience was ruined already. Some of the dishes lacked seasoning (basic salt & pepper, I eventually stood up and looked and found the shakers myself because the waitron never came around). As for the food, it was okay, nothing mind blowing. I think they started relying on their existing success instead of keeping on top of their game.

We had booked for a late lunch on Aug 24th for my son's birthday. I'd had a couple of amazing meals at Campania, so was realky looking forward to it! However when we arrived I could sense there was indifference amongst the staff... and we were told " I'm afraid there's no pasta available." When I asked why I was told " there's no chef... " Going to an Italian restaurant without pasta felt rather pointless, so we walked out. Considering I'd been sent a message a few days before to confirm my booking & to make sure we were still coming, why wasn't a message sent to say there was a reduced lunch menu?? It's quite a tricky journey from Buckinghamshire to Ezra Street, one which I'd thought would always be worth it.. it's been so lovely before, but now I doubt I'd return: we managed to find a table at Gloria, down the road, and had a great meal. Still left so disappointed.

Delicious food but our portions were very small and therefore overpriced. My chair was quite unstable and our table so close to the wall than I couldn't fit my small shopping bag at my feet. Our waiters were lovely and the decor charming.

Our time here was amazing. We knew it may be hard to get in as it’s quite cozy but very popular, but to our surprise we got in! We loved our food, the bread was tasty, and came quickly, and all of the team were extremely helpful and guided us through the menu. We (especially the kids) loved the cat sat in the basket, Rosie, and then our mains arrived. The Pappardelle was amazing, and the lamb was perfectly tender, it melted in the mouth. This was followed by the cake, which was extremely delicious and not too dense; a quality I struggle to find nowadays. I will definitely be coming back here for an evening meal, as we came in the afternoon this time. Thank you a lot for a great early dinner!

Fantastic dinner last night. First time we have visited and we got the best table in the house (in the middle courtyard). Server was brilliant at taking us through the menu and was vindicated on the dishes we ordered from his recommendations. The food was absolutely delicious, portions generous (the desserts especially), and was very quick to come. Was easily one of the best experiences we have had this year.

Yes it's a pretty place, but I can't in good faith recommend it. £21 gets you five (yes, five) pieces of ravioli with butter and garlic. Seems to be riding very much on its ambience and forgetting to actually provide good meals.

Oh dear, what a shame. It seems a slight air of arrogance is spoiling this lovely little establishment. This was our second visit; the first visit we had been so impressed with the food that we wanted to return when we were next in the area. So to our visit yesterday. Due to open at 12pm, they were running late, so a small queue of eager diners had formed and we were waiting for 30 mins outside without a word of explanation or apology from staff who were clearly inside setting the place up. OK, no problem, we were happy to wait but it would have been courteous for the manager to have popped his head out and apologised for the delay especially as we were all standing out in very hot sun. Anyhow we were shown to our table by one of the servers, only to discover that the metal tabletop of our table was very loose and every time we touched it it wobbled like anything. We could see evidence that other diners had tried to shore up the wobble as napkins were evident under the tabletop wedged into the gaps. We called over our server to help, he went off to find a bit of cardboard, but we were told by one of the other servers that there was probably not much could be done as this was the best they could do. In the meantime, my partner had contorted himself underneath the tabletop and had managed to wedge something in so that the wobble was greatly reduced. Thankfully, we could then relax and enjoy selecting our food. Here to a bit of a problem, the menu (which is quite limited) is entirely in Italian. I remembered this from before, and our lovely server dutifully translated every dish for us as he had done before. As I don't eat meat or much fish, I was focused on perhaps the only dish I could order which was raviloi with feta cheese and garlic and thus not looking at the prices. Our starter was beautiful. The mains then arrived and to my disappointment my ravioli came in the smallest of bowls and contained only FIVE pieces of small ravioli parcels in a little sauce. No bread or additions. I was sadly finished in a few moments and was still hungry. My partner was very happy with his fish pasta but agreed that my portion looked very underwhelming. The bill arrived and I got a huge shock to discover that my pasta was £23.00, which works out at nearly £5 per ravioli square. I was sorely disappointed as this was more expensive than my partner's fish dish. I did complain about this to the manager and to be fair he was very nice and gave us a £10 discount, however we will not be returning as I feel there is an arrogance about this place that is perhaps reflected in the lack of English on the menu, the high prices for the very average dish that I had, and lack of care regarding diners' comfort. There are plenty of other places where I would rather spend my money. The food is great, but it's not somewhere we can justify returning to after our experience yesterday.

Cute place on a little alley that definitely reminds you of Italy. The food was great and you could tell that all the ingredients were fresh and carefully chosen. The pasta lacked some salt in my humble opinion. My favorite dish was definitely the fiori di zucca, which is zucchini filled with ricotta. Quite pricey: in total we paid £43 for what you see in the picture + two glasses of wine + a panacotta.

Beautiful restaurant, wonderfully small menu with exceptionally tasty dishes. The cat roaming the restaurant adds to the cuteness of it all.

Excellent vibe at this place. We vibed with the waitor. The wine had a great vibe. The room we were in was a vibe. The small wood fire was a big vibe, even when it went out and we added a log to it. That was a vibe. Food? Forget about it - HUGE vibe. Extremely tasty. Don’t miss out on the ghundi - cheese vibe 10/10.

Very overrated. The food was average and over priced for the portion size.

Great small restaurant with amazing food. The chef Alessandro was great, entertaining guests and curating dishes in front of us. Highly recommended

More of a 3.5 star review. We shared the bread, burrata, gnudi with sage butter, raviolo all norma as starters and they were all decent but weren't anything special. For the mains we shared the mushroom ravioli, pappardelle with beef ragu (underseasoned, needed more salt) and the mussel and clam scialatielli (tomato broth was runny and underseasoned). The pastas were close to £20 (or more) so you expect better. Overall portion sizes were on the smaller side too. We shared the tiramisu which was great. The staff were attentive at first but then it was hard to get their attention and the service became lacklustre. It's a nice, rustic and cosy spot but I won't be rushing back given there's so many other good Italian spots around.

Terrible experience. Only 2 tables were occupied in the restaurant, and it took over 45 mins to get out one starter. The main courses (4) were all tasteless, and dire. We complained at the time when the waiter asked us "hows the food", we told him it was awful, but by then we had waited so long to receive food (over an hour for the main course), we were that hungry, we ate it. The chips were about the best thing we endured, we didn't moan about the chips being 6.50 pounds, but when we got them, it was less than a full potato! LOL We did laugh about this in the end.

Probably one of the best pizzas you will have in Hackney, made the Neapolitan way (although interestingly there is no Italian staff). The pizza list is accompanied by a wide selection of crafts beer, predominantly British. Or you can try one of their original cocktails, like the Balsamic Negroni. The restaurant also has a great location alongside the river and it’s got a nice yard, ideal in the warm summer evenings. The staff was friendly and helpful

Ombra hosted our wedding reception at their bakery across the road. The setting was great for our 65 guests with indoor and outdoor space, the food was exceptional (four courses, including burrata, beans, pasta and tiramisu), and the atmosphere was wonderful. The team (especially Red) was great at making sure things went smoothly on the day and making adjustments as needed. We couldn't have picked a better venue for what we wanted. Thank you!

Excellent ingredients very well cooked and seasoned with unctuous flavours in a laid back, atmospheric setting. Leo was a revelation, we will be back.
