Ombra hosted our wedding reception at their bakery across the road. The setting was great for our 65 guests with indoor and outdoor space, the food was exceptional (four courses, including burrata, beans, pasta and tiramisu), and the atmosphere was wonderful. The team (especially Red) was great at making sure things went smoothly on the day and making adjustments as needed. We couldn't have picked a better venue for what we wanted. Thank you!

We had a lovely meal here, unfortunately the service really leaves a lot to be desired. We had the chef’s menu and it seems we were either being bombarded with courses and not given time to savor each one or we were being completely ignored and waiting very long stretches for the next course. No real explanation on what each course, it felt like the staff really couldn’t be bothered. Asked for some salt and pepper twice from 3 staff members and that did t make its way to our table for a good 20mins. Such a shame really as the food was indeed lovely!

I will start by saying that the food we had was really good. The place is very nice and the possibility of eating outdoor, beautiful. They try to combine flavours in a very interesting way. Keeping their Italian heart but also going beyond the standard, classic dishes. I was happy with everything. One thing that is worth mentioning though, was the bill at the end of our meal. Not judging here, but just be ready to pay £95 pound for two pasta dishes (not very big portions), two Spritz (small glass full of ice) and a shared starter. Ciao :)

While the quality of the food was excellent, I was disappointed with the lack of sides included with the £28 fish dish. At Ombra, you order fish, and only get fish! Wish I had photographed the plate. My mum had to order an additional salad which cost an extra £15.00. This made the dish far more expensive than it should have been. I would have expected the waitress to mention the lack of sides...

Really impressed with this spot, location wise it gives a great view of the canal, especially if you sit outside on the terrace which has a lovely atmosphere. The service was rapid and attentive, staff very friendly and helpful and even offered us a very generous discount on our bill due to a minor mishap with our order, which was rectified quickly. Food was excellent also, we had the Hen of the Woods and Padron Peppers followed by beef ragu. Would also recommend the tiramisu which was probably the biggest I’ve ever had!

I don’t know who needs to see this but AVOID THIS PLACE at all cost unless you want to receive bad service, overpriced food, and extremely hostile hospitality from Ombra staff, particularly from a member named Mitshel. I had experienced symptoms of food poisoning very shortly after dining at this restaurant and sent an email to Ombra after 3 days of fully being sick in bed, only to be responded with progressively extreme hostility in response by a man named Mitshel. The degree of hostility was to the level of him claiming he will call the authorities on me for false accusation (when I had explained I have no issue reporting to the authorities if we could not resolve the issue internally), which to me is simply beyond belief and beyond any degree of professionalism. Clearly the staff and Mitshel take A LOT of pride in their restaurant and I applaud them for it but unless you want to feel attacked AS A CUSTOMER, avoid this restaurant at all cost. I also paid £360 for 4 people and still left hungry (with small portions of starters and pasta at an average cost of £20+), so unless you’re happy to splurge for decent-at-best quality food (with a possibility of contracting food poisoning), my best advice is to look elsewhere. Update: This restaurant engages in HARASSMENT behaviour if you ever complain about them - creating social and emotional harm to any customers who complain. The morning after I posted this review, I received a very suspicious LinkedIn connection from “Ombra” who apparently works as the “director of IBM”. This is after I had responded via email saying I do not wish to have any further liaising between the both of us and kindly asked for them to not reply. Not only did they respond back to my email, I’ve also received this extremely fishy LinkedIn connection. Guys, if any defamation ever occurs about me, please use this review as evidence of the sequence of occurrence.

My wife and I visited Ombra on a very hot day, they've got a lovely outside seating area and we managed to sit in the raised area, which had a great view of the canal and surrounding area. The menu was carefully crafted and you could tell a lot of time and thought had gone in to the dishes. This isn't your standard Italian with the usual choices! The staff were very informative with the ingredients and explaining the menu, you could tell they had a real passion for the food. The drinks menu was carefully chosen to compliment the dishes and the rosé was fantastic, as we're the non-alcoholic options. We will definitely be back next time we're in London!

I’m don’t like to give negative reviews as this is a business so the hope it they take it onboard. First the positives. The staff were professional and apologetic for some of the issues. The place itself looks nice by the river but I’m afraid I did also see the rodents who clearly live under the bridge. I would add that this is unlikely anything to do with the restaurant but the river adjacent. The food. The hens in the wood starter was nice and frankly the best thing we ate. My mother had the fish; I think place but a large white fish. It was completely undercooked the bone was freezing cold. She could not eat it so back it went to the oven. When it came back it was still undercooked but she had enough and had a few small cooked mouthfuls and left it. The side was an apple and celeriac salad which was ok. I ordered the Dexter beef at £31 and 1 side of veg. For potatoes they wanted another £6. The beef was so tough it nearly broke my tooth I could not chew it. I can’t believe this meat was to be served as a steak the meat was tough like stewing steak and impossible to cut. The server apologised and did reduce the bill. Sorry guys but it was bad. My mother who was visiting London said it was the worst meal she’d ever had. She’s in her 70s. Nice ambience but poor cooking. Need to do better please!

***Reduced this down to one star after receiving a passive aggressive and intimidating email from the restaurant. We had a 6.45pm sitting and there were only a few other tables in the restaurant. Our two pastas took over 45 mins to come after our entrees & salads and then only received one dish, with the other following 15 mins later. We ate our mains separately. £22/24 pounds for pasta that was very underwhelming for the price. They were very apologetic but couldn’t explain clearly why it took so long. It was nice that they gave us two wines while we were waiting and took two cocktails and the pasta off our bill, but overall the service felt very disorganized and we had a disappointing experience.

My partner and I were recommended this restaurant during our drip to London. The restaurant itself was cool and classy, staff were attentive and friendly enough. The food was fresh and delicious. We chose the tasting menu for £65 a person. The starters consisted of a mix of breads, focaccia, a bread stick and a fried bread all which were good but nothing to write home about. The sweet potato and cured meat was divine. Next came a dish of charred greens, croutons and blood orange, which was over charred and bitter tasting, not to our taste. After this, we had a smoked crab pasta. The fresh pasta was about as al dente as you could want. Our favourite came next, mutton with kale and anchovy sauce. Cooked to perfection, the sauce was incredible. Bellisimo. Only issue was not enough. Dolce next, panna cotta with nuts and cumquat, followed by tiramisu with sweet wine. the panna cotta was light and delectable. Tiramisu is not our favourite, but was light and fluffy. Overall a great experience.

1. The restaurant is nice and cute 2. Food is well prepared, quite decent. Nothing to complain about. 3. Wine selection was only ~9 options between red, white, orange and rose 4. What really ruined the meal is the bill includes a service charge of 10-12% and when they presented the machine the server leaves it on the table saying "I'll leave this with you" and then there's an automated page to tip on top of that (you need to opt out). So unless you opt out twice you could easily pay 30-40% tip for no reason.

The food was nice enough but my main issue which I have NEVER experienced at a restaurant before was that throughout the 4 hours we were there, there were large rats running back and forth across the restaurants decking right outside the main door. I was trying to enjoy my food and out of the corner of my eye would see them dash around. They clearly lived under the decking! It really put me off my food and we could see all the other tables turning around in shock as well. They either need to invest in ceiling to floor curtains or a good exterminator...

Let me tell you about this place. I have been to Ombra several times in the past year, and it has rapidly become a personal favourite. The first time I came here was last year for my girlfriend’s birthday, and knowing her standards for fine dining, I was tentative about my choice before arriving. Safe to say, just as my appetite for Ombra has grown in strength, after bringing my girlfriend here, the relationship has grown in strength also! The new chef who arrived in the summer, Alberto, has brought a new dynamism to the menu. I have spoken to him and every flower, spice, and dish is handpicked locally, chosen, and intensely studied to allow for the best dining experience. The food is unique to him, whilst simultaneously taking inspiration from traditional Italian cuisine. Same to say for the new general manager, Red. He has carefully curated a team who pride detail from atmosphere to wine choice to service, making him not only an excellent sommelier and manager, but a presence that leaves a lasting impression for the days that follow your meal at Ombra. As an Italian living in London, Ombra is now, and will be for the future, an Italian home in Hackney.

Really poor experience here, which is a pity because it looks great on paper. Probably my most disappointing dinner in London of the last few years. The food is solid (not amazing) but portions are small and extremely overpriced. Three of us spent about £60 each, sharing some snacks and the cheapest bottle of wine followed by a starter and main each, and we left so hungry that we got kebabs on the way home. The wine prices that evening started in the mid-high £40s (their online wine list has cheaper wines but they weren’t listed on the menu that night). The staff pressured us hard to order more, which we couldn’t afford considering it was a casual dinner with friends, and even insisted that we get the tiramisu after we said we definitely didn’t want dessert - very awkward for all of us. Service was extremely slow and they forgot one of our dishes, which became even more awkward and confrontational when we had to convince them that it really didn’t arrive. We were sat on a sharing table right next to a couple on their date night, which in itself is not terrible (probably worse for them than us) but it was another mild unpleasantness to deal with. At its price point and portion sizing I think it’s trying to position itself as a fine dining option in Hackney, but neither the food nor the service nor space deserves this. We spoke to some friends afterwards and they told us they’d also had bad experiences at Ombra and they would have told us not to go if we’d asked them. The passive-aggressive responses to reviews by the owners leave a sour taste in the mouth. Maybe they should incorporate the feedback rather than sarcastically dismissing it. The second star is just because the dishes mostly tasted good. EDIT: revising to one star because of their obnoxious reply. Not a hint of self-reflection. I’ve been to both the fine-dining places they “suggest” and honestly both are better value than Ombra - more expensive yes, but you actually get what you pay for and leave content. I’ve lived and dined in this area for a decade and I know what you can get for £60, and it’s a whole lot better than this. Years later, when my friends and I walk past this place we still joke about how uncomfortable we were here.

A very enticing menu but don't be fooled by the photos, at £18 a primi half the size of a tapas, £4 or £5 for 3 slices of stale bread called focaccia, this is a very expensive restaurant you will leave hungry. Fresh, and tasty ingredients, but no seasoning of sorts, plain boiled octopus and tomato, not even a drop of olive oil, corners cut everywhere possible to the detriment of the finished dishes. Service average, not bringing all starters together, they take different times to prepare, hmmm, get a chef who knows his schedule. Not again!

Food was tasty but portions are small and overpriced. One staff member was rude - told me off when I tried to fix our wonky table by shoving a napkin under the wobbly leg. Won’t be going back.

The worst experience I’ve had in London. Didn’t even stay to eat my dinner! Service? Under 0, unfortunately they were rude to me and to the people around us too. They didn’t even checked our booking but out of the sudden they knew where our table was and we could not change location? We kindly twice …. Sadly I am writing this review

Food is not great. Focaccia is served cold so it's chewy and really bad. Pasta dishes are plain, so much potential with the ingredients but we felt it's undercooked, unseasoned and taste nothing. Really wanted to love this place as it's not too overhyped yet but foods are just poor. Better go try your luck (with the booking) at Jolene

Went to the restaurant for anniversary celebration which was ignored even though was asked through the booking site (what’s the point asking then?) Food was okay, but very plain, absolutely no seasoning, a set of salt and pepper at the table might have solved the issue if there was any. My Italian partner was disappointed especially with the prices, we had way better food in way better places for less. Only 2 stars, sorry.

The food is mediocre: starter’s ok, pasta’s subpar, the octopus on the other hand was tasteless and so overcooked it tried to choke us. Expensive. Slow service. The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is Tam who was very nice and helpful. She kindly offered us the tiramisu. Unfortunately, it was tasteless as well. We’re writing this review from the kebab shop opposite trying to save our evening; nervously awaiting for the sassy comeback from the owner, will it be faster than their service?

Ridiculous prices. £7 for a half beer (in a wine glass). The most expensive I've come across in London

My new favourite restaurant. Unpretentious and simple but with cool music and great urban location. Limited menu in a good way. The food is unique and unforgettable, the pasta cooked to perfection.

My wife and I had lunch at Ombra recently. It was a warm Spring day so we ate outside, by the canal. We were very pleasantly surprised by the refinement of the food, and the kind and efficient service. The food is highly imaginative and original, using only fresh ingredients. We had the gnocco fritto & wild boar mortadella, cauliflower & cordyceps antipasto (beautiful!), and roasted monkfish with celeriac and trompette de la mort mushrooms. All beautifully served and mouthwateringly delicious. The wines are also very special. Don't miss this outstanding place!

Stumbled across Ombre after walking the dogs and looking for somewhere to eat late last night. What impressed me most about Ombre was the italian concierge - it was his first night - he exuded calm and confidence and made us feel incredibly welcome, hence the 5 stars.

I had the most fantastic birthday party at Ombra. There were 32 of us so we had the whole place and it was wonderful. The team were amazing, so friendly and accommodating. The food and drinks were delicious. I have been to Ombra many times before for lunch or dinner and have always loved it, but now I have even happier memories. Couldn't recommend more highly for an intimate dinner with friends or a big party!

Went here for the £10 lunch deal, pasta and soft drink/coffee. The pasta was decent, next I would probably go for a pasta with a cream base than a tomato base. For the drink, if non alcoholic, I would recommend the Cedrata Baladin. If you go here you have to try the Tiramisu for dessert, it was probably the best one I have ever tasted and was perfectly balanced. The staff were very friendly and service was quick.

Lovely place and staff but the food was really not good :( Everything was tasteless and some of our dishes seemed to be missing elements… really disappointed because it’s certainly not cheap. Wouldn’t go again unless the menu was updated.

Excellent ingredients very well cooked and seasoned with unctuous flavours in a laid back, atmospheric setting. Leo was a revelation, we will be back.

Wonderful food and great waitress. Only down side is that the outdoor seating does not cater for tall people. Chairs and too high and tables and too low.

Terrible experience. Only 2 tables were occupied in the restaurant, and it took over 45 mins to get out one starter. The main courses (4) were all tasteless, and dire. We complained at the time when the waiter asked us "hows the food", we told him it was awful, but by then we had waited so long to receive food (over an hour for the main course), we were that hungry, we ate it. The chips were about the best thing we endured, we didn't moan about the chips being 6.50 pounds, but when we got them, it was less than a full potato! LOL We did laugh about this in the end.

Probably one of the best pizzas you will have in Hackney, made the Neapolitan way (although interestingly there is no Italian staff). The pizza list is accompanied by a wide selection of crafts beer, predominantly British. Or you can try one of their original cocktails, like the Balsamic Negroni. The restaurant also has a great location alongside the river and it’s got a nice yard, ideal in the warm summer evenings. The staff was friendly and helpful
