My wife and I went for lunch with our daughter and foster daughter. We were seated after a short time but still too long. We sat to choose from the lunch menu and waited a good 15 to 20 minutes for the waitress to come and take our order. We did have some dietary needs but chose from the menu and asked for some alterations to the dishes because of Allergies and dislikes. The waitress took the order making notes of the required changes. We then waited for over 40 minutes for the dishes to arrive. I noted straight away that my choice was incorrect and pointed this out to the waitress (who seemed to be the manageress) she did offer to change it. I declined as we had already waited too long!!! Another dish was incorrect too. During our time at the venue we noticed that none of the customers were approached by the staff to see if 'everything was OK?' When we went up to pay, the lady didn't ask if the food or service was fine. While at the till we did give feedback about the food and service but the lady did seem to brush it off and wasn't fussed. We are not going to be visiting again any time soon but other people may have had a better experiences at the place.

We ordered afternoon tea for two. Eventually we managed a large pot of tea and two cups. The stainless steel teapot should have warned us that despite looking lovely from the outside, this place might not he so great. Sandwiches were fine and the scones were delicious but oh, the cake! Disgusting. Synthetic butter cream that tasted like plastic. The chocolate cake would have benefitted from some chocolate and the bottom of my victoria sponge is obviously attached to somthing somewhere. We spoke to the waitress who apologised. When we came to pay, a more senior person said 'yeah, we get loads of complaints about the cakes. It's the buttercream, it's not real is it? We're looking for a different supplier'. I was so taken aback that I actually paid the full amount (no the bill wasn't adjusted). Afternoon tea should be a treat, not a gross disappointment with poor service.

It was hard to get the attention of a waitress, and a mistake was made on my order (which I did not draw to their attention as I could live with it), but what I had there was of good quality.

Popped in for lunch with small child - they were able to accommodate her specific request without fuss. Our croque monsieur and BLT were really tasty, filling and well prepared. Service was prompt and the bill was also very reasonable. Will definitely come again - best tea room we have been to in the town.

I want to start by saying I have never left a review before in my life but after having visited this place I felt I needed to share my experience. This place is an attractive little tea room, very clean with pleasant decor and the toilets are nice and clean too... however not a pleasant experience aside from that. On arrival we were greeted and welcomed but then left to find our own table. We were promptly seen by a young girl who was very polite and smart. We wanted to order 2 afternoon teas for 2 as there were 4 of us. After putting in the first of our orders, she then asked if we were all having afternoon tea as we could do 4 individual ones instead. We already decided to order 2 lots of 2 as it slightly cheaper to do it that way (anyway that's by the by). After she had complicated matters further with lots of options, we then had to start over again from the beginning with our order. Next we were waited on by a young man who brought our teas & coffees over on a tray. Balancing the tray on the edge of the table, he then knocked the cafetiere and spill the boiling coffee on my sisters leg scolding her and splashing it on my other sister as well. He did apologise and I understand that accidents happen, but there was no offer of a cold cloth or anything, she was left to go into the toilets and put cold water on it herself. Following on from that, we waited 40 minutes for our food to come. In the meantime people were coming into the tea rooms asking for a table and being told that they were rushed off their feet and that there was a 45 minute wait for food. As we looked around the room, we couldn't understand, as more than half the tables were empty... When our afternoon tea did come it was on a lovely 3 tiered stand with sandwiches, a slice of cake and a scone with jam & cream. We had all been given the choice of brown or white bread and all chosen brown, however the sandwiches came on granary bread and the bread was all different shades as if several different loaves had been used. The sandwich fillings were very nice but the bread was dry and hard round the edges so we didn't eat them all. For the cakes, we had chosen coffee cake and victoria sponge, both of which were dry and stale, so again we left most of it. The scones were very nice but even before we had chance to finish, the waiter came to our table and said that they had run out of cake stands and could he take ours if we were done. We weren't done as he would have been able to see, but we felt obliged to move our food around so that we could free up 3 of the stands. All in all we were extremely disappointed with the level of service and the food served. We had done our research and looked at the reviews on trip advisor, many of which made it sound lovely, however this was not our experience. When it came time to pay we shared with the staff the things we weren't happy with and they said that all the cakes come in fresh for the weekend, but the ones we had were definitely not fresh. We thought maybe they would offer some sort of resolution but we were offered only a sorry and that was it. One of the girls actually walked off into the kitchen which was behind the counter and we were surprised to see a number of staff in there just standing around chatting, especially after their comment about how busy they were. Finally, we paid the bill, splitting it 3 ways and had to help the girl on the till work out what we would each need to pay as she was unable to work it out. This visit to the tea rooms was a gift to my mum for her birthday and I have to say we came away embarrassed for having taken her there. It's sadly not a place I would recommend or be visiting again.

Very clean, staff looked tidy in their uniforms, which you don't seem to get in many places now. Food took quite a while to arrive, but it was very nice when it did. Very reasonably priced given the environment and table service.

Stopped at Camellias for a light lunch. We had smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches which were very good. The bread was fresh and tasty and the filling was not skimped at all. We also had a coronation chicken baguette which again was very tasty. Camellias was clean, comfortable and the staff friendly and efficient.

We had a lovely lunch on a busy Saturday. Staff were attentive and polite. Service was efficient and despite it being busy we didn’t have to wait long to order or receive our drinks, and subsequently food. The food was excellent - our party had a mixture of baked potatoes and paninis. The food and drink were served nicely, with a separate wooden tray for Earl Grey tea and coffee served in a cafetière. So rare that a coffee drinker gets a second cup, unlike tea-drinking companions! One very minor comment, but not enough to dock the rating... it was very warm in there! This would have been super if it had been cold outside but despite being October it was warm outside too. Even my wife thought it was warm, and this I almost unprecedented. It wouldn’t stop us returning though.

What a delightful coffee shop to sit and chat with friends whilst visiting Shrewsbury. The attractiveness enticed us in, and the choice of menu encouraged us to stay and sample delicious scones and tea cakes plus a refreshing cuppa. The waitress was extremely pleasant and made us feel welcome from the outset. Comfortable seating, pleasant background music and excellent washroom facilities. What more can one say except Camellias is now on our 'must return ' list.

We have been visiting this tea room in Shrewsbury for a number of years and have always found the food vey good with a wide range of cakes, light lunches and beverages available. These are enjoyed in nice surroundings just off the main shopping area so peace and quiet is possible in the heart of the town's busy shops amongst it's historic buildings.

A lovely place for our untraditional Sunday lunch. Jacket potatoes were delicious. Decent portion plenty of filling and a nice crispy side salad. Only downside was the panini one of our party ordered was rather light on filling and came with a very small bowl of very small crisps. A bit disappointing for £6.95.

I must echo the views of others. A really lovely restaurant spoiled by sparrows landing on the the table where cakes are being cut and on uncleared tables. Very unhygienic - there must be a way to stop them coming into the tearooms. Never encountered it anywhere else. Health and safety would have a field day!
