Excellent tea and delicious homemade cakes. Not so keen on the scones, as they were dry and tasteless. Lovely, cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. I will definitely be back.

Having ordered Camellia’s teas online to enjoy at home I was looking to visiting their tea shop opposite the British Museum which reopened in September. What a disappointment! My friend and I were ready for a snack after a 3 hour visit to the museum but were immediately unimpressed with the non existent welcome by the 2 surly and miserable staff. After being seated we were told we would need to order at the counter. I had received an email from Camillia’s Tea Shop back in early September offering a free cup of tea which when I tried to claim was told the offer had ended, when I checked my email and found no expiration date, another staff member told me that I should have checked their website. Surely if a company sends out an offer it makes sense to put when it expires on the email or tell the customer to check on the website My friend and I had a smashed avocado on a scone which cost £12 plus a cup of tea for another £4. The tea was lovely but the scone was small, hard and tasted stale All in all an overpriced substandard meal served by miserable staff. I will not be returning.

What a delightful tea room, just across the road from the British Museum Very high quality leaf tea. I ordered a classic afternoon tea. It came with finger sandwiches, two scones with jam and cream. Then 4 cakes plus strawberries The chocolate cake was the best of the lot. Very nice jazz music was playing which creates a chilled feeling as the calories flood in!!

The teas and the service deserve the 5-stars. The selection is great and the prices are not over the top although not cheap at all. The snacks that we had were okay but nothing extraordinary and since everyone sits only at the tightly packed tables on the ground floor (the basement section is technically empty), upon entering you immediately have an "overcrowdedness" feeling. People were waiting for tables outside the place yet there were plenty of tables downstairs. I dont really know why people can't ask the staff but still...

This place is an American's or Chinese person's idea of English twee. If you want to overpay for a cup of tea or a sandwich, and be served by rude staff (not all of them, in fairness), by all means go. Otherwise walk a few blocks to a wide selection of restaurants and cafes next to Russell Sq. tube station or better yet, take one stop down the line to St. Pancreas, the magnificently restored international train station with its abundance and variety of food and beverages in the beautiful stations inteself or next door in the Coal Drops Yard complex where the culinary offerings are more sophisticated and ambitious.

There was some kind of bias (racial, anti-American or anti-kid or something else) going on. The two caucasian women ahead of us were offered a table right away but they left without ordering. Before our multi racial family of four could even get a word out, the woman at the counter said "sorry we don't have any tables left". I asked about a tea to go and she replied "we don't have any pots at the moment". So how would she have served the two women before? How can a tea shop not have any teapots available at 2 in the afternoon? She mumbled something about "right to deny service". Not sure what she was saying but we got the hint. The owner should be aware that the staff is actively and belligerently turning customers away on some bias that's representing the entire establishment.

My family (4 in total) tried to stop in after visiting the British Museum. As we entered we were greeted with “I have no room for four”. This was followed by “I also don’t have enough tea pots”. I couldn’t imagine a more unfriendly greeting. I don’t know if it was the fact that we were a family (also a mixed race family) or she just wasn’t friendly but we did not stay since she didn’t give us an option of staying. It would have been nice if her to say “it may be 10 or 15 minutes before I can seat you”.

Very friendly staff but dear life is this place ever expensive. I mean, two cups of peppermint tea (lovely and all but exactly how difficult is that to mess up...) and two modest cookies and I had very little change from £20!! Happy to be treated to tea there but honestly would think twice before forking out so much.

First, note that their on-line menu of tea and their actual offerings didn't match, which was mildly disappointing as we spent a lot of time on-line looking at the various teas and then weren't able to get three of our four choices. However, they have glass jars of the various teas that are available lining the walls so you can smell and see them. Although we noted a severe poppyseed allergy when we made the reservation over a month ago, that information never seemed to make it to the staff and that member of our group was thus unable to partake in the full tea, as one of the pre-made sandwiches had extensive poppyseeds and the others were cross contaminated. This was very disappointing because if they had noted this at the time of the reservation and let us know that the food was pre-prepared and plated already and couldn't be substituted, we could have made a more informed decision about whether the variety of tea was worth the (substantial) expense of one of our group not being able to eat there. Beyond that, the sandwiches and scones were fairly average. The desserts were above average, especially the pistachio and lemon petit-four. Overall, the tea is worth it and if you are a true tea aficionado, the average food is a small price to pay. But if you have any special dietary restrictions, don't count on being able to be accommodated.

This is a place that I would highly recommend if you want to be treated with contempt by the manageress. Brings a new meaning to the word unpleasant. For a nice pot of tea and pleasant service go anywhere else!!

Criticise Starbucks all you like but serving a decent cup of coffee is the one thing that they do well - loads better than Costa amongst others. The only better one is Roasting Plant Coffee in the Strand but then that place is several rungs up the ladder

Nice pub/restaurent where the atmosphare is the best thing. Quite good food but the nice personal and the atmosphare is the best thing

Extremely overpriced for juices with basically mostly contain ice water! Charging £7 for this is pure cheek though they were busy so people are clearly willing to pay for it. Very loud, dirty tables as they don't have enough staff to clean and serve, and disappointing they do not have a toilet as they do serve food. Will not go again.

My mum and I popped in late July. Had a lovely milky coffee (trad caff order!) and we shared a few fresh pastries. Staff were polite and helpful and gave us a bag to take home what pastries we couldn't finish.
