Very nice pub. Shame it's so expensive and service was not very good. 4 drinks over £20.

The place itself is lovely. Just the toilets stink . You can smell the before you see them

Great dog friendly pub serving good home cooked food and real ales. It looks like it can get very busy for dining especially the Sunday carvery so make sure you book and mention you will have dogs with you so your table will be in the bar as dogs can’t go in the restaurant area.

Lovely pub made to feel very welcome

Excellent pub, loads of ale to choose from, even a gluten free ale on tap. The menu was limited as we were late for lunchtime but basket meals were still available so we all had scampi and chips 😋 It was rainy so we stayed indoors and enjoyed the music and beautiful views. The garden looked nice, with things to do for the little ones. This is a great, well maintained pub and perfect for the whole family to enjoy. It was also a lot cheaper than my caravan park clubhouse 😉

Went to visit for Sunday Lunch on the off chance they could fit us in. Had a lovely meal.

Came for Sunday lunch after recommendations. It didn’t disappoint. Great value, good food, nice staff. We both had beef and the only tiny downside was that my meat served first was all lovely and tender , but my husbands served second from the same joint had quite a bit of gristle. You never know what you are getting with meat until you actually eat it.

Lovely old pub, family run. Staff all really friendly. The carvery is excellent value for money. Loads of choices of vegetables and three meats. Proper Yorkshires and gravy! Close to the beach for a walk after lunch.

Popped in for a beer ,nice staff and beer was reasonably priced

Arrived at this lovely little tavern on a cold day, locals were there relaxing and chatting to the staff, lovely little dog sat with the owner, open fire going, big open space at the end of the bar if you don't like the little country pub atmosphere. We didn't try the food as it was just a stop off, our 2 children loved the play area outside even in the storm, we had a couple of drinks and then carried on our way. Looked at the food boards and the food on offer looked good, the children's menu look very good too but we had eaten only an hour before. Luckily as the chef was not on site until 6pm. Would recommend even on a cold, stormy day.

Came for family meal of 6 adults 1 teen 1 baby. With 3 dogs. Pub was very welcoming and accommodating. The food was lovely and reasonable price. Pudding was also nice to. Plenty of room around the table. Good selection of food and specials board

We popped in to the California Tavern for a nice pint of ale as seen a sign that they had a beer festival on the staff were kind and helpful, we had 2 lovely freshly made sandwiches that were excellent, we ended up going shopping and popping back for another pint of ale

I have been coming to scratby for years and always visit this pub at least once or twice during our holiday. We have eaten on a few occasions and have never had any problems with either the service or the quality of food. We visited during the ale festival this year and sampled a variety of ales and ciders. The bar staff are always welcoming and smiling and the locals are friendly. It has a play area in the back garden for the kids and it's safe. I'd say it's worth a visit even if you're not staying in the scratby area.

We dropped in briefly at lunchtime, but one day, I'd like to spend an evening here. It looks a good night out. There is outside space for good weather. Service is friendly. There is a carpark. The pub is dog friendly. Also wheelchair accessible.

Left feeling disappointed. Came for their beer festival, lovely plum porter and vanilla latte stout, but most of the beers were to warm. The food we ordered was underwhelming. I had the gourmet burger, but I'm afraid nothing gourmet about it, meat was dry and Luke warm at best, as was the other meals we ordered.

Myself and my partner had a tasty burger meal, he had it from the special board with big onion rings had to be done 😊 while my mum had a chicken dish. Was cosy Accpeted dogs which was a bonus as I had my Jack russell with us so she came along too, friendly staff not bad prices.

Very nice sea side pub! Very relaxed beer garden with play area for the kids. Would recomend for anyone looking for a break either too or from the beach.

Food is not as expected for the price

Walked in 6 adults and 1 hungry dog. The roast turkey and veg for the dog was fantastic, Reginald ate it all. Food was great for the humans. Will definitely return.

Huge pub with lots of seating. Nice selection of drinks on tap. Large food menu which was good on price with big portions. Good place to walk to if residing in Scratby or just passing if visiting the beach.

We went here at 12 noon on Monday afternoon in August and waited for the pub to open so we could have lunch. However, we were advised they only have a chef available on a Wednesday, so food wasn't available, so we left.

We had a big birthday at the weekend and the staff were so accommodating for such a large party! So helpful just went above and beyond! The food was lovely, most of us had carvery and everyone was so stuffed they couldn't move. I had the jacket potato and that went down a treat! Thank you so much for wonderful food and fantastic service! If you're headed that way definitely try a meal here 😊

Lovely pub, lovely staff. However… very poor food! Extremely cheap low quality ingredients. Not even real “ham” (see photo). The cheap supermarket reformed pork that’s made by jet washing the leftover pork off a pigs carcuss, collected in the drains, then they add water and all kind of flavouring and additives to glue it together and taste something like ham. They’re made to look like slices but I can assure you that’s not sliced freshly from the hock of a ham! Poor burger, shop bought cheap coleslaw, dry chicken… etc etc it’s so disappointing when you eat out, you pay top pub prices (£14 for a salad) and it’s much worse than you eat at home 😞

Didnt eat here but fantastic choice of drinks and many different ales sat in the back with the dog and can hear the waves crash really relaxing

Amazing pub, staff was fabulous. Kids loved park, next to beach, Dog friendly and nicely tucked away. Short walk from california caravan sites Definitely recommended and would definitely return if we return to california cliffs👌 👍 👏 x

Amazing! Thank you! We popped in for a quick drink on the off chance. And don’t know if it’s because I’m a London girl originally , that I instantly loved the pub and the atmosphere, reminded me of true London! Very dog friendly! Took our little one in and pooch, who was also offered a carvery. The staff were so friendly and helpful

Great pub for entertainment and food.

Very slow service. When we ordered our food, we were told it would be 20 minutes. That would be fine. However, our food did not arrive for more than 50 minutes. The bbq Texas chicken and bacon had a thin layer of cheese on, which just covered the meat smothered in a strong bbq sauce. The ploughman's was uninteresting with smaller cheese portions. Shortly after we were served, the live band started, which made it impossible to talk. Disappointing evening.

Lovely pub, we always visit when in Yarmouth/Scratby. Sadly weren't doing food on the day we went left time but have eaten here and it's great.

Very friendly service , Carvery superb hot and very filling and beer great. This place is a must visit if you are in area we are back in area in September cannot wait to have another great carvery and lovely Norfolk Gold Beer.

Lovely people lack of communication between bar staff and kitchen staff and when the the lady took my order ,I asked her if peppercorn sauce was hot or spicy she replied I will put it in a separate dish on the side for you it came on top of loins steaks I agreed to try it,the loin chops were disgusting,and not edible,so I left them,when thelady t took my food away i have explained the meat was very poor quality ,she took my plate away took the sauce off and brought the same meal back so I had to explain again. That the meat on the side if the plate was not edible,so I did not want to continue with the meal,to be honest the price we paid and the quality of the meat was not edible,

Had the Sunday carvery & to say it was excellent would be an understatement, lovely food & great staff.. 5 stars from me..

This pub is friendly, the staff are lovely and very accommodating. The food is absolutely amazing. Any expectations I had, they exceeded. If I could give ten stars I would. Amazing place. Please if in area give them a try, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely pub, excellent selection of ales.

An extensive menu, but when I ordered, paid and sat down, I was then informed I couldn't have what I'd ordered. A bit late!! So I ended up having something I didn't really want, just so I didn't have to mess around with adding extra money. Also, if you're the one chatting to the bar staff it's really nice, but if your the one behind them waiting to give your order it can be frustrating especially when there were other staff there, looking /seeing me, but did nothing about it. The food was good, so I will come back. There is a large car park for visitors to this pub.

Excellent pub. Was so pleasantly surprised to discover this pub round the corner from our accommodation 6 days into our holiday. Probably the best vegan/veggie selection I have ever seen in a pub. This includes desserts as well as mains. Really friendly and obliging staff and a fantastic setting, right by a beautiful relaxing beach. Wish we had discovered it earlier on in our holiday

Staff helpful and friendly, The carvery was very tasty and even though it was busy we didn't have to wait long. Roasties and parsnips were cooked just right and the gravy was thick and flavoured.

Good atmosphere. Easy to park and next to the beach. Serve food and drink. Reasonable prices. Toilets are clean and accessible. Outside area/ seating good for children. They allow dogs in the bar. We didn't book a table but got seated straight away. June 2023 we visited tonight for food. We had Seabass and Texas Chicken both meals were beautifully cooked and well presented. Portion size I would say was medium. Service was quick and efficient. I had strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake and my husband had apple crumble and custard, both were lovely and tasty. Reasonably priced food. We would eat here again.

Went in on the spur of the moment for food on a sunday. Very helpful we had not booked but they got us straight into the carvery.
