Barking Smack in Great Yarmouth

The best pub on the seafront! Lovely pub, clean and spacious, plenty of seating on the promenade. Friendly staff, very good food, three local real ales, very reasonable prices. Can't recommend highly enough!

I was on holiday in hemsby , friends popped to see us so we took them for dinner, we found the barking smack in Yarmouth, the food was fantastic and huge portions 😁 I would highly recommend it 👍🏻

Under new management. Looks very good, great upgrade. The restaurant is now opened and its amazing! The chicken bbq and peri peri is out of this world! Great food, great chef, happy us. Keep going back for the food and sometimes bring it home 😁

Superb food at the Barking Smack, generous portions and great value prices. We really enjoyed our meals here which were the Gammon steak and half roast chicken; both meals were HUGE and delicious. Next time in Gt Yarmouth, we're definitely returning here for dinner. Barking Smack is certainly worthy of the travellers choice status it currently enjoys. Have already recommended to friends with caravans nearby.

Pub is situated on the front by the amusements. With a spacious beer garden at the front, along with plenty of space indoors. Drinks were a bit hit and miss.. nothing special but ok. Food on menu sounded great but was told most was not available.. order out food, nothing.. waited.. nothing.. nobody came to say it was on hold while the chef wasn't around.. ended up with a refund, after going in to ask what happened. Shame as nice looking pub.

What can I say. Intially, I thought it was going to be ok. Comfy clean and quite busy. I heard people saying it had only just re opened, and the day I visited was the first day they were doing food. So, hopefully, things should improve. The service was poor. We waited ages to order after being told it was table service. In the end, my wife waited at the bar for ages, waiting on some acknowledgement. Finally our order was taken which was a simple baguette style lunch. We waited for nearly an hour for our lunch to be served. During our wait all we could hear was the staff bitching about other customers. Whilst I appreciate that it was clearly stressful for the team that day. Their behaviour was completely unacceptable and not in any way customer focused. The food was of poor quality, the coffee was rank, and the cokes were so watered down that i couldn't tell which was diet and which was regular, the chips were barely cooked. Finally, if the toilet cleanliness is anything to go by, I would hate to see the kitchen. The toilets looked like something out of a horror film.

Under new management, just refurbished to a high standard. Excellent seaside pub, clean and spacious, friendly staff, three real ales, very reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

Can't believe that this has a prime position on the seafront, it's just awful! Dirty, cold, and unwelcoming . Tempted in as dog friendly, but couldn't wait to leave

Nicely run, plenty of attentive and friendly staff, good food and value. A table in the sun in the front garden is a bonus if available. Don’t underestimate… worth a visit.

This is on the seafront. It is near to the bus stop for the 1C bus, which goes along the seaside. I believe the pub is family owned, but I could be wrong. I was glad to see that dogs are welcome. I haven't got a dog and it's nice to make friends with one. There is a front drinking area, looks very good. Not for me - I think that sunlight kills beer stone dead. There are good toilets. Well looked after. There's another room for diners. I never stayed late. There were plenty of staff waiting for the evening rush. I spoke to a few of them and they were very nice people. There were two real ales and I tried both of them and they were very good. I good fed up with the real ale and had some fizzy lager and that was very good as well. I think it was Peroni. I went to that pub THREE nights out of 4 of by holiday. Out of all the pubs, I went to that pub. Good pub.

Excellent haven’t been here before but have been to Great Yarmouth many times.very nice staff good beer and drink selection very nice food.We had scampi and Gammon and then back for tuna baguettes really good both times .Very good pricing aswell would definitely return.

A good cheap place to eat. The food was excellent, prepared fresh and served with a smile. An old style pub. The only downside is the place could do with a bit of tlc, some of the chairs are passed their best, and a good wipe down wouldn't do any harm, the place isn't dirty but just a bit sticky, especially in the recent weather. Would definitely return

Service here was great, but didn't understand why you pay for drinks and food separately rather than together.. First set of food got served in a mouldy bun so had to have replaced but after that it was nice enough .

Myself and my partner were staying next door in The Marine Hotel and over the weekend we popped in the Barking Smack for a couple of drinks the staff were friendly and the place was clean and tidy.It was a nice relaxing atmosphere in there.We didn't order food but it looked nice.

Good prices and good food. Sick of the usual seaside chios, burgers etc., so spotted this place. Menu was good, cheap food and thought we'd give it a go. Recommend the steak pie or the chilli con carne. Lovely food, good selection of drinks.

We popped in for something to eat. To be honest for the price we were not expecting it to be great. What a surprise. The food was delicious. Cannot fault it. Staff were polite and helpful. Will definitely eat here again.

Ever since the pubs reopened outside in May I have visited the Smack on many occasions, I have been working in the area for 5 months and I have been desperate for somewhere like this to reopen.This is just a really genuine seaside pub, great mix of locals and visitors, good service and friendly staff, I will miss it when I leave the area.

When we walked in a staff member literally barked at us "go sit down" (that was red flag number 1) The waitress that served us wasn't wearing a mask and had literally 0 people skills, my partner asked her what beers she had on tap - she then proceeded to scream to the "chef" what beers they had, this ended in the chef shouting names of beers across the pub to us directly (red flag number 2) The entire place was dirty, there was a pile of broken chairs next to our table (red flag number 3) The food arrived within minutes and looked like something you'd order from a cheap backstreet takeaway on just eat (red flag number 4)It was absolutely inedible!! I ordered the gammon steak, I can honestly say hand on heart that I've never had a microwaved gammon steak put in front of me! We left pretty much as the food arrived, we tasted it, we both agreed it wasn't fit for human consumption and we left minus £30!!! I can see why they take payments before they bring the food!!

The pub was okay- neither especially good, nor especially bad. The staff were friendly enough and the beer well kept. The food wasn't particularly great, but was cheap and cheerful. It was raining when we went, but in better weather I am sure the garden would offer a great view. If I was in the area again I might pop in for a drink, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

I like feel good food, a lot. I'm a big lad and the portions here are certainly perfect for me! Great grub

We came here for breakfast Saturday morning and what a lovely experience. Traditional pub interior with character and not parading as a modern gastro pub. Lovely staff, food was good, drinks were hot, service was quick and all at a very reasonable price. Covid procedures were explained and available (NHS app QR code, hand gels etc) lovely experience had by all. Thanks

Visited for the first time today. Very happy we did, not a lot of pubs / bars around Yarmouth seem to have outdoor seating and so most are shut right now because of the restrictions .The Food was good and fairly priced, the staff are attentive and friendly !The outdoor area is a good size and welcoming plus very dog friendly. We were immediately shown a table by a helpful staff member and while we decided what to drink/eat a bowl of fresh water was brought for our dog.It isn't gourmet food but its good.... it's fresh and the beer selection is lovely. for the price and atmosphere during Covid it would be hard to beat the 'Barking Smack, !

We went here for breakfast yesterday. At first I wasn’t sure as the inside looked more like drinking pub than an eating one. We had our dogs with us so sat outside. And ordered the big bite breakfast. OMG how wrong was I. The breakfast was one of the best we have had. Absolutely gorgeous. Will definitely be going back when next in Great Yarmouth

We decided to try here for a drink as tables were clearly marked for social distancing and we decided to stay for lunch. Pleasantly surprised food was lovely we had a Tuna baguette and homemade vegetable spring rolls both were very filling and tasty. Staff were very friendly and everything clearly marked to enable a safe trip out

We arrived and were unsure on cleanliness in the beer garden As no one was whipping tables between visits and the atmosphere but we were pleasantly surprised. There was 9 of us and the food was delicious. The staff were lovely and hardworking and the Thai food was unbelievably good. The Thai green curry and spring rolls were to die for and the rest of my party agreed. Will be back when we are next in Yarmouth. Thank you!

To be perfectly honest, I went to the Wetherspoons to get breakfast. There was such a long queue to get in I wasn't prepared to wait. So, found this pub, got a bacon sandwich, looked at the menu and saw they did Thai food. I know it's not everyone's favourite but I went back twice. The Thai green chicken curry was delicious and the king prawn pad Thai was out of the this world. They have European dishes too,enjoy.Best wishes everyone,Ken

Arrived at Baking Smack full of anticipation but felt left down by the poor service. During COVID one has to ask why the staff are not wearing face coverings. Ordered food at the bar found out later no Pad Thai. Sat for 50 min to get spring rolls with the rest following 5min later. Spring rolls were great, Thai green curry a watery mess with over cooked chicken and the Beef and vegetables were so so. Overall I find this location average and don’t be in a hurry. Having not booked and got tickets to the theatre, restaurant by restaurant was full as we had not booked so as last resort we went to barking smack. What a massive surprise good quality food a reasonable price four empty plates. Cooked fresh to a high standard great service what a little gem in a sea of fish and chip restaurants.

Second time I've been here and think its great . Lovely out side seating ( even with covid restrictions) lovely staff and think the manager/owner deserves a medal for still working at such an age . Reasonable prices for a pint .

Very nice food and chilled atmosphere. Had Burger and Chips (they were fries, not chunky, whic was preferred) which was just perfect.

We had a family lunch here earlier on in the week, we noticed that they were advertised as taking part in the government eat out scheme. Upon ordering and after paying we were told they had stopped doing it, which was quite a disappointment. Nonetheless the food was enjoyable

Stopped by for a few drinks and dinner. Reasonably priced and food was lovely. Two of us ordered from the Thai menu and three from standard menu and all 5 meals were very good. Large portions and good value.

The food, 5/5 atmosphere 5/5, service 5/5 Its an amazing place to eat and the food is the best in great yarmouth. Highly recommended the Thai green curry(with onion rings is a must!) and lasagne.

Tonight I was unsure what I really wanted - already had fish and chips 3 times this week, seafood twice, steak and Greek food. I saw generally good reviews here and good range of pub food looking at the reviews posted but the Thai recommendations intrigued me. I really recommend the Tom Yum soup (could really taste the lemon grass and chilli spice), Vegetarian Thai spring rolls (had three portions!), Thai green curry (hot and creamy) and the Pad Thai (really flavoursome). They were are really tasty - better than any Thai restaurant I had in London and reminds me of my holiday in Thailand. Ben along with her sister and mum originating from Thailand ran the kitchen. They are so friendly too. Their prices are very reasonable too. If you fancy a change from the normal fish and chips and local cuisine, I definitely recommending coming here and trying the Thai dishes. We will be back if we are ever in the area!! Thx Wendy

My family and I visited Great Yarmouth for just a short 5 day stay and yet we ate here twice. The main reason being the Thai Green Curry is amazing, it was without doubt, the best Thai curry I have had outside of Thailand. If I was there for longer I would go and try the other Thai dishes.Bar staff were helpful and friendly and I found the place clean and social distancing etc in place. They do accept card payments and I found the prices very, very reasonable. I cannot comment on the other food but with a Thai chef, I wouldn’t consider anything other than the Thai corner part of the menu.

The homemade Chilli & Lasagne are incredible. The staff are friendly and really efficient despite the Covid restrictions. Well worth a visit.

Swung by with our two dogs. Very quiet, due to time of year and weather. Gentleman behind the bar was very accomadating. The food was just right.Lady who brought it out was very lovely.It is just a very basic pub so no Aires and Grace's required. Think it is closed from November until next year. Will definitely go back again when they reopen if I ever come this way again. MUST REMEMBER IT IS CASH ONLY!

I was here for a pint whilst in Great Yarmouth the staff were friendly enough and the bar area was vey clean and presentable although I didn't eat any thing the food which passed me looked delicious although I didn't like the idea of deep fried ice cream but if I was here for longer I would have probably tried it just for the sake of it

Went here a couple of nights, 50's 60's night was really good. Whether for a quiet drink or to enjoy the entertainment, the choice is yours.

First time visit for us and definitely the last. Food not up to standard. Burger fried to beyond infinity. Chips not very hot. Children’s food only partly warm. Customer service almost non existent. Member of staff busy with mobile phone behind the counter had to ask her several times for our drinks. Staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing when taking my order. No credit card accepted only cash as they have no facilities for credit card machine. Toilets were smelly and needed a good clean. Definitely not worth the money. Place is a shambles. Won’t be going back there again in a hurry.

It was around 3:30 so I popped in for a beer and a glass of water. The water was good, the beer, Grain 316 was rank ! Warm and cloudy and undrinkable. The bar staff were slow, either too old or not english speaking . Would I go back ? No , only for a refund !!!
