We called in on Thursday lunch time for something to eat. We didn't have too long to wait for our food to arrive and we both enjoyed our meals. The only negative comment is that my Dad had ordered Lasagne which stated on the menu it was served with a side salad and garlic bread, but there was no garlic bread on his plate. I wanted to ask about it, but he didn't want me to make a fuss....so I didn't say anything. Apart from that little mishap, a very enjoyable visit.

Both drinks orders were incorrect, the waitresses were rude and tried to argue when we complained, and the food was also ordered wrong so we ordered more so we didn’t have to go and deal with the bar tenders to try and take the food back. This is really upsetting as I am a regular of this pub.

We often go for breakfast in brighouse usually on a saturday morning and usually to the wetherspoons across the road , This week we tried the Calder and it was a pleasant suprice m, a much better quality breakfast than across the road and not long to wait, i would have given five stars but for the male member of staff who kept wandering around the tables and rudely kept just taking things off our table without asking eg ,menus and condiments etc.

This was the first time I'd actually ordered food here, and wasn't impressed at all. After a wait of approximately 40 minutes, our subs arrived. The beef inside was not to my liking at all, very thick but so chewy, it wasn't nice at all. It was a very busy day, so I didn't complain.... maybe I should have, as its definitely put me off from eating their again

Been calling in this pub for the last 3 years or so on and off when meeting up with couple of friends or with my sister. House wine is 9.49 a bottle and there are plenty of different meal deals including burgers chicken dishes, pies jacket potatoes and paninis. Offer on desserts as well eg two for a fiver including ice cream fudge cake, sticky toffee pudding and profiteroles. Today it was really quiet, but we were in from 2.30pm until 5.45pm. Lots of seating, and ladies loos of which there are plenty are up a few steep stairs. Still need to experience a Saturday night in there when they have the disco on. Staff always helpful.

Having lived in Brighouse for 9 years I had always avoided the Calder, more to the reputation of the previous establishment there. Went about 6 months ago, after a neighbour recommended it, and have been a fair few times since. Food is not particularly outstanding or adventurous - but it's very good value and good quality. Plenty of offers and drinks are more than reasonably priced - and it's a pub that sales hand pumped ales where the staff know their stuff. Can get busy, and lots of tables but they fill up quick. Well worth a visit and the Menu is on line and it's very much upto date with both offers and choices. Will continue to go there for meals now A+

Very briefly, the food here is reasonable and fairly priced, and the service pretty good, but let down by the fact that this place used to be a cinema and has terrible acoustics for a restaurant.Coupled with this was the company policy of playing loud music throughout, making it virtually impossible to have a conversation without shouting. Perhaps it would help to follow Weatherspoons policy of not playing music, and finding some way to improve the acoustics. Then it would be a viable competitor for Weatherspoons restaurant round the corner, The Richard Ostler, to which it is comparable for food and cost.

I am a regular at this pub for food . It's generally very good hence my returns. But went last week and decided to have steak and my husband had mixed grill. Others in our party had sausage and mash and Mac and cheese. It all arrived and as always looked lovely. Most of it was except for the steak. My husband just left it as it was full of gristle. Mine was mixed but very gristly this was shame . The rest of the food was lovely . I suppose I could have complained but pub was busy as were staff and we paid a flying visit. As always staff were lovely and service fast. Just steer away from steak.

When British pubs are good, they are hard to beat. Had actually intended to have a look in Wetherspoons, but this one caught my eye. A fine array of real ales on display (including the best IPA known to mankind "Jaipur"). Manager Steve was really on the ball, and managed to take our food order whilst we were still deciding. Daughter number one chose a bacon burger, whilst I inevitably went for the beef & ale pie. Smiling waitress was very prompt with our order, and for pub-grub the food was absolutely spot on. Table cleared quickly, and generally the service was absolutely 10/10. I'm not easily pleased, but when someone has the formula bang on, it's only fair to give them a bloody good review. Well done chaps.......

I visited the Calder just after it's refurb before Christmas and was reasonably impressed. The food isn't all that bad, compared to many others I've been in anyway. I've been back a few times. Last visit I had Fish and Chips which were more or less as I expected for pub grub, frozen chips and peas but they were hot and edible. The beer is my main reason to visit. They have a collector card system where you get a stamp for every pint of real ale bought and once you've collected 7 stamps you get your next pint free :-) They've had some good beers on and on my most recent visit I was in heaven as they had both Timothy Taylor's Boltmaker and Landlord on ! The Elland Brewery 'Calder Pale' is a regular, I didn't really notice what else was on, the Boltmaker was really on form so I stuck with that. It was a Saturday evening so there was a DJ on too. He played music right back to rock 'n roll of the 50's plus a lot of party music from the 70s and 80s. More my sort of music than the thump thump thump of most pub discos.

Town centre location with road side parking nearby. Good food at reasonable prices. Cheap drinks and friendly staff. We are occasional visitors to the Calder as it is a great place to eat and drink. Gets very busy later on but we eat around 6pm and find it relaxing and not too noisy. Recent redecoration which has improved it even more.

There were 10 of us, including a baby, full breakfast £3.49! At that I didn't expect much, thought they might use small plates and one of each of everything, stingy portions etc, but, how wrong was I! It was lovely, a real full Breakfast. Okay, it wasn't the biggest, trimmed breakfast I've ever had, but, I couldn't fault it at all. Well cooked, plenty for me, clean dining area, spacious and not crammed together like most places. Friendly staff. It only lost out on a five star rating because, after my wife had double checked the order with them, they still managed to forget my wife's breakfast. That was soon remedied, but minus one star. Would definately recommend a visit for breakfast on a budget.

A frequent visitor to the Calder brighouse, whether it's for a drink or food. Menu has a wide range of classic pub food, with lots of deals (burger and a drink, 2 meals for £8.50, etc). Portions not too small. Food arrives quickly unless it's busy, in which they tell you before you order (which we appreciate) Drinks are average for a pub, not Wetherspoons cheap but not extortionate. The refurb has massively improved the settings! One of the best places to go in brighouse if it's for a cheap quick lunch. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

Went for a family meal to the recently refurbished Calder (£250,000 total cost of refurb!) and boasted a 'new and improved menu, with plenty of new dishes' in the Brighouse Echo... Myself and my family was expecting something at least different from the normal, bog standard dishes previously served and was gravely disappointed to find the 'new and improved' dishes, when they arrived, didn't even match the previous sloppy standards served up before the refurb. Although each of my family members chose different meals - each meal had many common and predominant theme; tasteless, small portion sizes and was thrown together with absolutely no care and attention. This was a real pity because both the surroundings and waiting staff was actually quite nice. We arrived hopeful and hungry and left feeling hopeless and hungry. I advise the manager to invest in sourcing good quality local produce and the kitchen (this is more valuable to customer satisfaction than chandeliers and patterned wallpaper) - this may in turn support the Chef to take some pride in putting dishes together instead of throwing things onto a plate.

The Calder has been done out and it looks a lot different. At first glance it looks a lot bigger inside but that maybe because it's a lot lighter than last time I saw it, which was a disco night. They still have those on Friday and Saturday with some Sunday's as well.I called in mainly to check out the beer, 5 hand pumps on the bar now, was only 4 before. One let down - Green King IPA is a regular, don't like it myself. Black Sheep seems to be a regular too. Local Elland Brewery have provided a pump clip to rename Elland Pale as 'Calder Pale', nice touch. The two guests on this visit, Elland Brewery 'Ellium' and Great Yorkshire Brewery 'Yorkshire Pale'. My choice of the day was the Ellium. They are doing a promotion on cask ales, you get a collector card and have it stamped each time you buy a pint. Buy 7 pints and the 8th is free. Prices on real ale is standardised with anything up to 3.9% at £2.60, The Yorkshire Pale was 4.0% and that was £2.70. While I was there I tried the menu. My acid test is the steak pie, wherever I go. In this case it was pretty standard. The pie was a corner piece with a lot of shortcrust pastry, top, bottom and the sides. The meat was steak in ale and pretty fair, not the best I've ever head, but certainly not the worst. No big lumps of fat or gristle like some places, and no added veg like carrots or mushrooms either. Served with the usual pub grub frozen chips and peas and a little jug of gravy. I don't like my plate flooded so this was a plus point. From ordering to service was just 8 minutes on a midweek afternoon. They won't win any prizes for exceptional grub, but it's reasonable and not badly priced. They had an offer on two meals from a given menu, about the cost of a meal and a half.Staff were friendly and even smile, I dislike being in a place where the staff look bored and don't want to be there, these people were attentive and knew their stuff. Well done The Calder, keep that up and I'll be back.

Arrived at 12:45. Told no soup left so the soup is obviously not made daily. I’m sure nobody is eating soup for breakfast so working on the assumption that lunch starts around 12, they’re either not making enough or they’re using leftovers. Ridiculously slow service. Waited 45 minutes for 2 overpriced sandwiches. Slice of cake £3.75, wafer thin. Staff surly and unwelcoming. Not a good place to eat at all.

After going here for over 25 years never again. Poor customer service, prioritise the online orders and ignore face to face customers. 4 staff in the shop and was ignored by all bar 1. The service has been steadily going down hill and tonight was the last straw. Such a shame as I like to support small local businesses who need the support.
