Excellent service and food. Well maintained toilets.

Great stop for a long drive....great service... very courteous staff

Clean, presentable, quiet. Was attracted by its ownership, same company that owns Tebay services in Cumbria, a services we will not pass as excellent food offer and lovely ideology. Cairn Lodge has a long way to go to match it. Food was a meagre offering of half a dozen pies when we called in and all hideously expensive (All over a fiver each!) Ideology of "Local" food offer seems to have been lost in the translation from Cumbria to Scotland. I'm sure there are good, award winning small food businesses in the area, not all wearing stripey jumpers and masks!

Very good service station, quality food and not full of junk food outlets and gambling machines like most.

Clean place, with good choice of food. So much better than just- services place . I would stop again.

Once only visit £13 breakfast (without a tea) over cooked hard sausage bacon black pudding and the bubble and squeak was appalling Egg was perfect If they made it cheaper maybe I’d stop again

Overpriced and on top of that purchased free range chicken thighs there yesterday and opened them today and from the smell it is obvious it has gone bad so it is not safe to eat it. Disappointed

They should be serving with a balaclava on . Charge way over the top for everything a get its a service station but near double the price on everything .

Very disappointed in our lunch. Any other Westmorland services we have been in, the food has been exceptional. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of Cairn Lodge. There was very little choice, and what there was, looked like it had been sitting for a while. We should have left at this point but unfortunately, we didn't. We certainly would not recommend.

Smashing services. You get what you pay for but some of it is aimed at the tourists

I stopped here for a toilet, and then thought about getting a large hot drink, got the drink and went back to car to carry on with my journey, it was not hot at all, by the time I left it was done

Stood for 10 minutes waiting to be served hot food, staff at the kitchen hatch could see me and chose to ignore me , it took the staff member that was making coffee to ask a member of kitchen staff to serve me , I asked to speak to the manager , she apologised for what had happened and thanked me for bringing it to her attention. She then returned to a table she had been sat at with another staff member it was obvious she was conducting a staff appraisal / meeting and continued her conversation about attention to detail and how the staff member was performing or not for all the restaurant customers to hear , you could just make this up !!!! What a real disappointment , totally unprofessional not what I expected from Cairn Lodge services !

Tad on the pricey side but quantity and quality is worth it. It's a cute little stop especially after a long trip, breaks it up nicely It also has a farm shop with a fox variety, warm cafe with views, a gift section; A small one stop.

Much nicer food and atmosphere than any other service area than Tebay.

The fish and chips in the restaurant was phenomenal, lovely fresh fish, good portion sizes. The farmshop had a great selection of food stuff as well, all reasonably priced considering it's still a service station. Think I might even make it a regular stop on my trips to and from Scotland in the future.

These services are always spotlessly clean. The food/drink is a little more expensive than your average services, but this is not a run of the mill place. The produce is local, fresh and high quality. The disabled facilities are excellent and always extremely clean.

Great for a stop off on the way back home from Scotland. Great that it's the same group as Tebay and Gloucester Services, you know you're not going to be disappointed!!

I think it's a very expensive place, but that's just my opinion. The quality of the food or the quantity of the portions doesn't justify the prices, even if we're talking about farm foods A positive thing is that it's a pet-friendly place.

Best services I've ever seen. Cafe is reasonably priced and v nice food. However shop over priced and needs to sell more curlys wurleys and monster munch.

Clean, friendly and a nice selection of local produce and hot food, don't miss this one if passing lots of tasty treats to be had and seating with USB and plug sockets to use free of charge

Wow, this is one of the best motorway services I've ever been to. It's called a farm shop and it didnt disappoint, there were all sorts of beautiful hand made chocolates and treats, fresh bread and morning goods, clothes for all ages, toys, pets foods, and hundreds of other lovely foods and sweets. It is definitely worth a stop and look round, great find, many thanks, ,...,..,,,.., ,., ,.,

Low quality overpriced food. Try’s to look fancy but it’s absolutely not. Bread, sandwiches and cakes felt stale and were tasteless. Coffees were badly portioned and gone after a few mouths full. Typically bad services. You are better just avoiding altogether.

Lovely couple, delish coffee (add bacon roll for a quid, yum) Deli food, pies etc. toilets and showers clean and tidy. Nicest services I have ever been to. Thank you.

Awesome services, have very clean facilities and restauratant with a farm shop. The garage also sells amazing pies and snacks for the journey. Lovely friendly staff in both places too. 😎😎

Turned up to charge the car, chargers were not turned on and with no explanation as to why. Staff unhelpful and toilets dirty.

Rather expensive services but with a dog friendly foyer where you can have your meal with the dog by your side. Water bowl provided by the door. Kitchen and nice farm shop not accessible for dogs. Lots of clean toilets and shower facility also available. Hot food and bakes but didn’t see any sandwiches or paninis for eating in. Free parking for up to 3 hrs.

Upmarket service station in general BUT only CCS chargers for electric vehicles. No ChaDeMo connections. Google gives this information but the Cairn Lodge Services own website does not give this information.

Very nice ambience. Hot and authentic masala chai. Lots of good options as well. Has a small play area for the little ones

It was great stop by after a long haul drive

My absolute favourite services. Really good food. Toilets are always clean. Staff are always friendly. Water on tap. Play area for kids. What's not to like and why can't all motorway services be like this? This placed changed ownership a good few years ago now and from being one to avoid, it's become our absolute go to!

Very clean, pleasant environment. Good farm store shop but quite expensive. Part of the Westmoreland services who also run Tebay etc . Plenty of parking. Clean toilets.

Has been our only stop when travelling to and from Aberdeen for years now. Toilets spotless and the cafe is brilliant especially the sausage rolls that always go down a treat

Good service station. Food and choice is normally quite good. Service is always good here. Road conditions are full of potholes.

Really classy (and quiet) services from the same stable as the excellent M6 Tebay services further south. So an excellent farm shop. The whole place looks and feels fresh and clean and there’s plenty of space. This is much preferred to the nearby Abington services. EV charging is down the back, not at the Shell garage (which doesn’t have any!)

Food and service and parking all excellent. I got stick there after sitting over an hour on Motorway as serious accident. Police would not allow us to proceed on motorway at that point so I was totally lost trying to get home. On these services the young lad at the till offered to help me and after I told him where I wanted to end up, which was a long way South, he told ne exactly what to do from the minute I left the services. He made an oldish lady very happy as I do not know hiw to use Sat Nav. So this will be one of my favourite places to stop from now on.

Along with its sister, Tebay, this is the stand-out BEST motorway services in the country. Fantastic selection of local produce. I hear the Gloucester one is great too, but haven't been there yet

Great refurb of the main shop (our latest visit was Nov 2025). For fans of the individual steak pies / steak and haggis pies, produced by the local supplier 'Ross pies', they are still stocked but they are sold in the petrol services shop - not within the main precinct...

Marianne from the farm shop was excellent with me I was feeling unwell and she noticed came across and made sure I was ok, gave me a nice refreshing drink of water and came back a couple of times to ensure I was still feeling ok. Thankyou Marianne above and beyond.

Sister services to Tebay but smaller. Nice clean toilets. Car park a bit too dark at night.

A good place to stop that has all the facilities needed. Food is prepared and is very good.

What a lovely farm shop in what is essentially a service station. Lots of nice treats, souvenirs and food. A great selection of beers and wine which are not run of the mill. The staff are really friendly too.

Called in on the way to Glasgow. Quick pit stop. Farmshop was a lovely find, lots of fresh and delightful produce on hand, meats, cheeses, cakes and more. As you would expect, have deep pockets. Sandwiches and drinks were quite hefty priced. Toilets were lovely and clean, with shower facilities. As an independent motorway services/Farmshop, it was lovely to visit, and maybe with more time, I might have treated myself to a coffee and cake. The car park was full, which is a good sign that Cairn Lodge services is a popular stop off. EV charging available.

Lovely modern cafe with great local produce in the farm shop which has recently been extended and refurbished. Good takeaway coffee too!

Setting not as nice as Gloucester and shop smaller but still lovely produce.

Expensive. Dry food kept warm under heat lights. Cold toast, rock hard butter. Could you ask for more?. Yes. Try cooking to order!!

This is another Tebay services family. No chains e.g burger king, Costa etc. All locally sourced produce, beautiful eats and drinks to buy in the shop, many of which could be gift ideas.

Staff are great but really expensive

A little diversion from the motorway takes you into one of the best services I know. This is so much better for not being one of the big brands. Based around a delightful farm shop type retail area it also has a large self service restaurant. Excellent quality and a relaxing break from travelling

Nice little services. You will need to remortgage your house to sample one of their sausage rolls, but they are still worth it

Interesting services with a mock castle feature/building behind. Good selection of different food. Part of the tebay group. Only let down you cannot get a sandwich made from something a bit more ordinary if you do not like all the fancy ones. Small selection of pre made sandwiches where only plain ish one was wafer thin ham the supermarket kind. My sandwich was however very nice if not slightly more expensive than i would have liked.

It’s a very posh services where everything is probably overpriced but you’re paying for the experience of being able to post it on your social media that you’ve been

Not as good in all respects (food, service, shop) as the others in the group but still better than most service stations.

Lovely clean services, nice walk for dogs, friendly staff

A lovely looking cafe and very comfortable. Staff very friendly. Farm shop very good for cheeses, bread etc although would like to see fish that is not farmed. The food in the cafe however was underwhelming. We got breakfast and for the price I’d expect bread from the shop with 2 slices of toast and tea in a pot. The sausages and mushrooms were tasty. Perhaps a better presentation would help too. A roll and 2 sausages for £6.75 and a cup of tea for £3.75 is steep so I would the quality made up in other ways. e.g the bead, a tea pot.

Dog service station heaven! I've ever seen so many dogs in a service station. Great farm shop and good food, although would say portion sizes were considerably smaller here than the same meal I've had at both of the sister services (Gloucester and Tebay)

Fine place to stop when heading south on A74/M6 route. Not too big, good selection of meals and snacks. Light, airy, with good staff.

Stopped for comfort break and a bite to eat. This site follows in footsteps of Gloucester services.

If the sight of a farm-shop service doesn’t make you want to kill yourselves the ridiculous price of a bag of crisps will. £5.50 by the way. All i wanted was a hot chocolate and i got lukewarm milk, the people i was with who also got different types of coffee all said theirs were bland and boring. £15 for three cups of crap. Will not be returning

£14.40 for dry lasagne and dry cool chips. Veg would have been extra. Pretty much inedible.

This place is our go-to stop for breakfast when driving between Newcastle and Glasgow. Top quality food and coffee , great environment and friendly staff. Highly recommended

Great services, especially compared to the hellscapes of standard service stations. Light and airy cafe, great food and appreciated the cute little play area. The shop is great with delicious cakes. It's only £1 for a kids hot meal purchased with an adults hot meal. Bargain!

Great stop off for those long trips to and from England to Scotland. It’s definitely better going here than a standard Service Station. The food was really nice, I had their big fry up breakfast, very noice!!

Best battered fish I've ever had! Cooked to order, it was extremely nice 🙂 I'd been recommended these services (the farm ones) and wanted to try them. The staff were welcoming and friendly and I felt rested by the time we left

Very nice hotel, rooms are comfortable, only thing that let it down that the service and food in restaurant were not very good. My wife's meal wasn't very warm and my fish wasn't very warm, and also there was a dog in there which would not stop barking, I know it's not the staff's fault but they could of kindly asked the person with the dog to leave as they had already finished what they were eating and drinking, you could see a lot of customers in the restaurant were upset by this episode aswell. Having said that I would still recommend staying here.

Some great local produce in the farm shop, rather pricey but probably worth it.

Nice services with good, clean amenities and friendly staff. The home cooked food was very nice but if I had one complaint it would be the portion sizes. For £12 I got dessert included but was still hungry. For that price I'd be expecting a better sized portion as I can pay less than that for fast food and feel more satisfied. However, everything else was decent so a minor issue in context.

By far one of the prettiest, loveliest, friendliest service areas across the whole United Kingdom. VERY well done. Such a shame more of these don’t exist. Local farmers produce. Food is amazingly tasty, also has a small mini market to promote local farms and suppliers. Absolutely wonderful! Shame that London doesn’t offer something as stunning as this!!!!!!
