The most unfriendly dog friendly hotel you will ever visit. On arrival we were greeted by a “did you tell us you were bringing a dog”, to which I replied I had and I was asked to read a page of rules for bringing a dog and was told lots of guests who bring dogs don’t agree with them, I can see why as the dog was not allowed anywhere in the hotel or grounds except walking through the lobby to the lift, our room and a secluded table away from everything. The room did have a lovely 90’s feel about it as it was the last time it was decorated and a great view of a wall. I understand that not everyone like’s dogs but it should not say it’s dog friendly when it obviously is not.

Had a 1 night stay on a B&B basis but booked a table for an evening meal too. The hotel is old and huge but welcoming too. Arrived 20 mins before check in time but they did have a room ready for us. The room was light and airy with plenty of space. Good size bathroom and nice shower. We had 2 x single beds but that was price choice through Booking.com. Beds were comfortable and warm. Evening meal which is a choice of 1,2 or 3 courses from the days menu. The starter and main were ok not exceptional considering the price. However my choice of dessert was very disappointing. Cheese board consisted of 2 pieces of cheese, 2 crackers with packet butter, 7 grapes, half stick of celery 🤮 a few dried apricots and a handful of crushed walnuts. The breakfast however was good with plenty of choices of cereal, juices, fruit etc. cooked item available from the carvery area. Tea/coffee and toast served to the table. Service was prompt and professional.

Didn't sleep here but visited a guest that was staying. Nice big grandiose hotel steeped with history. Big spacious rooms although showing their age. Would definitely consider staying here if required a room in the Harrogate area

Two big negatives; I felt unsafe in my room and breakfast was rationed. My room (and many others) had a Yale lock. When I went to secure it at night, there was no little black thing to double lock it. I called down to reception and was told they don't have them but it was ok, as no-one could come in "without a passkey"! I'm sorry but there were lots of women travelling alone for the book festival and I do not consider it safe to have no extra lock, chain or disabler. Anyone could come in off the street (often there was no one at reception) and grab a key and there were lots of staff members too. At breakfast, I was not allowed more than 2 rashers of bacon, even though I was not having most other items. I was told 2 is the limit; 2 people in front of me had only had one but that made no difference. In addition, when I asked for coffee, I was given a tiny little pot with enough coffee for one small cup. I could ask and get more, but that meant getting a server's attention, then waiting. Also, no skimmed milk or Marmite at breakfast and no body lotion or conditioner in the bathroom. The fire alarm went off at 23.45 on the Thursday, then again at exactly the same time the next night! Obviously a fault but no one bothered to check it and fix it after the first time. Positives: The bed was very comfortable and the shower good. Also location, as it was just up from the event most people were attending and also had a bus stop right outside.

Awful room (206). Rodent on fire escape close to the entry of our room via sash window. Poor service as no option of room change or refund. Avoid this hotel.

Cheap and cheerful, but excellent location. The public rooms were grand and comfortable and the bar reasonable. We didn't eat at the Cairn. The room needed renovation, but the bed was comfortable enough for a good night's sleep. The furniture was in disrepair and the shower took ages to get to the right temperature with fiddly controls. The cleanliness was good and everything did work. I would definitely stay again if I was visiting Harrogate for a night, especially if going to the fantastic theatre or the exhibition centre. Everything is just a short walk away and this hotel is much cheaper than others around there.

Just had a lovely weekend in this hotel.usually big older hotels tend to be a bit run down but this was not the case here..the hotel is really nice throughout. Lovely spacious social areas and immaculate bedroom. Excellent value for money at £150 for a 2 night stay on a weekend with ample free parking included.will definitely return.

I thought the service at this hotel was fantastic! The chef Gareth was especially chirpy and made an effort to chat to every customer. This has made a difference to my day. We also had a lovely and helpful waitress called Leia who was particularly helpful and accommodating. Lovely large rooms and we also had a bathtub! Faultless stay. Thank you 🙏

Room cold, unable to regulate radiators , hot one minute then go cold 🥶. Electric radiator in bathroom left on all night , freezing cold in the morning. This place needs a massive face lift along with updating.

Lovely little hotel . Use the hotel name not the postcode to find it though as postcode take you to the middle of a road. It was clean and staff friendly and efficient mostly. We had a twin room which was bigger than expected . If you have accessibility issue ask at the front desk as our room has a step into the bathroom. We had dinner and it was not worth the price tag but it was edible after a long day.

This is a very large and old Victorian hotel that has seen better days. Having said that, the hotel rooms are large especially compared to modern places like the travel lodge. Bathroom was a little tired but very clean and the shower over the bath was modern and worked well. If you like your hotel to have a bit of character then this place is worth a visit. Plenty of free parking and only a five minute walk to the exhibition centre. Bar food available as well as a restaurant.

Ideally situated only a 15 min walk from town Ample free parking Lovely old building with many features Clean and tidy Polite friendly staff The big issue was it was cold inside the building - the heating was on a timer - and though the signs above radiators warned of being hot - they were Luke warm - maybe the radiators needed attention. It was Cold in the function room!

Radiator just below it heating outside! Moved next door, much better warmth, tho Windows did not open. Bed ok. Food not brilliant.

Hotel is beautiful, they do advise they are refurbing so you have to excuse this. That being said the staff are attentive and engaging. Great location just a short walk from the historic town centre. Breakfast was a lovely buffet style which was hot and tasty. We were fit to bursting and ready for the next leg of our trip! The rooms were clean and perfect for the overnight stop we had. I would definitely visit again.

We are here now ,out dated rooms and to be honest grotty,,wallpaper peeling off ceiling ,not cleaned properly as dust everywhere, finger marks on mirror, hole back of bathroom door, cobwebs weeks old and doesnt even smell like it has been cleaned not worth the money when similar priced hotels available Needs fully updating.Nice building and close to town centre is its only saving grace, we where offered a change of room and to be honest no better, the firedoors are non compliant ,god help you if there was.Such a shame i cannot upload the pictures i took as you would give the widest birth.Nothing like advertised.. Disappointed and disgusted

Weetons Food Hall…. Went for breakfast .. after waiting almost an hour a cold fatty bacon sandwich and cold eggs benedict arrived! Chased the food and was told it was on its way - it arrived 15 minutes later. When I complained about the service and food as I was a paying the £40 bill I was told “yes, I agree, I’d suggest complaining online”…. So here you go…. Don’t be taken in by the high prices and appealing location … the service and food are truly appalling …

Three staff on. Prioritising drive thru and not indoor. Second in the queue and I left after waiting 15 minutes with no service. The guy infront also waiting. Wasn’t even sure what they were doing apart from avoiding eye contact with the growing queue. No apology for delay, nothing. Zero customer service. Greggs - in and out in 3 minutes. Cheers.
