Lovely victorian hotel with beautifully restored features creating a feel of grandeur... could nt fault our spacious well presented room with everything you need for perfect stay ...the only niggle which did nt affect the quality of the room was the view from the window.. it was abysmal view of an small enclosed scruffy four walled square containing the fire escape and rubbish in the gutters and in the pigeon net so i would not accept room 323 again....the main reason for booking was the unlimited easy free parking which is a rareity in harrogate centre...10 minute walk to centre..bit longer coming back up hill...all in all we loved our stay..apparently its a main destination for dancing lovers boasting one of the largest spring loaded dance floors so do nt forget your dancing shoes.

Great stay for our family! We had a lovely stay at this hotel with my husband and two kids. The staff were kind enough to let us check in early, which was much appreciated. The location is perfect for exploring Harrogate — such a beautiful town! We only paid for the room, so I can’t comment on the food. We did notice we were probably the youngest guests there by about 30 years! The hotel is absolutely huge and seems popular with coach tours — they host dance nights and themed evenings, which is fun if that’s your thing. It’s definitely old-fashioned, but I actually liked that — it had charm and character, and more importantly, it was clean. I’d happily stay again. If you’re coming with kids, definitely go to Mother Shipton’s Cave — it was amazing! Just make sure you book.

A great place to stay a few days with so many places nearby to visit plus to explore Harrogate. The hotel has had its day perhaps but the warm welcome makes up and the rooms are clean with friendly helpful staff

I stayed recently for a convention - it’s less than a ten minute walk from the convention centre. There’s ample parking facilities. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Sometimes a little too keen at breakfast to clear your plate, almost before you’ve finished but very kind. Bed was comfortable but there were no plug sockets right next to the bed. Curtains were good at blocking out the light and the room was generally very quiet. Complimentary tea and coffee service - nice biscuits provided daily. The room kettle can take a while to boil (I wondered if it wasn’t working at one point). I had a meal at the bar and it was excellent - reasonably priced and huge portions. Good value for money and tasted good. Breakfast is good - standard English breakfast options. Toast is brought to your table abs decaf coffee can be provided on request.

I stayed here for a couple of nights while attending a conference. It's just a ten minute walk to entrance 1 of the convention centre which is handy. I booked a twin superior room and got a double which was a treat. The room was very big and great to come back to. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. Breakfast was good too. I felt a bit out of place as the hotel clearly focuses on the retired generations but watching the staff being so friendly to them I could see they were good at it. The room was a little tatty in places but it was spotlessly clean. As a lone female traveller I was a little uncomfortable that there wasn't a chain on the door in the room or any additional lock. Anyone with access to keys could come in. It would be good if the staff doing check in didn't say my room number out loud either, just for safety. Just show me it on the key fob. Thanks.

Stayed here with a friend in October, first night the room was like a sauna, had 3 fans going at once, felt so claustrophobic plus the window was open. Next day had to request a room change which the receptionist on the phone was very rude and not helpful at all, if this happens be prepared to carry your bags around all day as there’s no where to keep them. The following night we were going to our room and the security was asking me very strange questions and acting in an unprofessional manner. My friend then woke up to the phone constantly ringing at 04:00 he also mentioned he had phoned our room the previous night and he had no reason to be phoning, after the phone was continuously ringing he then was outside our room banging on the door saying “girls let me in your room” he then proceeded to pull on the handle and try a key card. I went to the door and told him he had no reason to be in our room but the door was sitting on the hinge as he had unlocked and opened the door himself. He eventually left us alone after sitting outside for over an hour, the next day we went to reception to report this and the ‘manager’ was not cooperative and was very manipulative and degrading which her colleague then told us we put ourselves in a vulnerable position as we aren’t from Newcastle. Highly do not recommend wasting your money as we’ve stayed in other hotels in the same area before which were a 10/10 experience.

The most unfriendly dog friendly hotel you will ever visit. On arrival we were greeted by a “did you tell us you were bringing a dog”, to which I replied I had and I was asked to read a page of rules for bringing a dog and was told lots of guests who bring dogs don’t agree with them, I can see why as the dog was not allowed anywhere in the hotel or grounds except walking through the lobby to the lift, our room and a secluded table away from everything. The room did have a lovely 90’s feel about it as it was the last time it was decorated and a great view of a wall. I understand that not everyone like’s dogs but it should not say it’s dog friendly when it obviously is not.

Had a 1 night stay on a B&B basis but booked a table for an evening meal too. The hotel is old and huge but welcoming too. Arrived 20 mins before check in time but they did have a room ready for us. The room was light and airy with plenty of space. Good size bathroom and nice shower. We had 2 x single beds but that was price choice through Booking.com. Beds were comfortable and warm. Evening meal which is a choice of 1,2 or 3 courses from the days menu. The starter and main were ok not exceptional considering the price. However my choice of dessert was very disappointing. Cheese board consisted of 2 pieces of cheese, 2 crackers with packet butter, 7 grapes, half stick of celery 🤮 a few dried apricots and a handful of crushed walnuts. The breakfast however was good with plenty of choices of cereal, juices, fruit etc. cooked item available from the carvery area. Tea/coffee and toast served to the table. Service was prompt and professional.

Two big negatives; I felt unsafe in my room and breakfast was rationed. My room (and many others) had a Yale lock. When I went to secure it at night, there was no little black thing to double lock it. I called down to reception and was told they don't have them but it was ok, as no-one could come in "without a passkey"! I'm sorry but there were lots of women travelling alone for the book festival and I do not consider it safe to have no extra lock, chain or disabler. Anyone could come in off the street (often there was no one at reception) and grab a key and there were lots of staff members too. At breakfast, I was not allowed more than 2 rashers of bacon, even though I was not having most other items. I was told 2 is the limit; 2 people in front of me had only had one but that made no difference. In addition, when I asked for coffee, I was given a tiny little pot with enough coffee for one small cup. I could ask and get more, but that meant getting a server's attention, then waiting. Also, no skimmed milk or Marmite at breakfast and no body lotion or conditioner in the bathroom. The fire alarm went off at 23.45 on the Thursday, then again at exactly the same time the next night! Obviously a fault but no one bothered to check it and fix it after the first time. Positives: The bed was very comfortable and the shower good. Also location, as it was just up from the event most people were attending and also had a bus stop right outside.

Cheap and cheerful, but excellent location. The public rooms were grand and comfortable and the bar reasonable. We didn't eat at the Cairn. The room needed renovation, but the bed was comfortable enough for a good night's sleep. The furniture was in disrepair and the shower took ages to get to the right temperature with fiddly controls. The cleanliness was good and everything did work. I would definitely stay again if I was visiting Harrogate for a night, especially if going to the fantastic theatre or the exhibition centre. Everything is just a short walk away and this hotel is much cheaper than others around there.

This is a very large and old Victorian hotel that has seen better days. Having said that, the hotel rooms are large especially compared to modern places like the travel lodge. Bathroom was a little tired but very clean and the shower over the bath was modern and worked well. If you like your hotel to have a bit of character then this place is worth a visit. Plenty of free parking and only a five minute walk to the exhibition centre. Bar food available as well as a restaurant.

Ordered early at 6pm online to have food arrive at 7:15 8pm still no delivery! Called to find out what was going on said it was out for delivery. 8:25 it finally arrived but no sweet and sour sauce with a dish. This was a £65 order. Had to call again, but too busy to get through for another 15 minutes before someone could pick up the phone. Said they would drop it off asap. It arrived within 10 minutes which was fast but a meal we should have been eating as a family at 7:15 ended up at 8:45. Not the best service my advice is order 2 hrs before you plan to eat
