Visited the Wheldrake village cafe with a friend who was new to the area as I had had some lovely lunches in the past. So disappointed. All that was available were ready made paninis which had been made 2 days earlier so we shared one of those as they are quite large. Definitely on the stale side, dry and unpleasant eating. Was offered a freshly made pesto and cheese panini which was OK. Can only think all the effort goes into the Designer Outlet branch. Doubt I'll be going back.

Definitely a surprise! we booked a table but found no-one else there. A person came out from the back eventually and we chose from the menu. Clearly not much was available. We chose salad but it seemed impossible to have bread with it. The toilet had no paper and no lock, and opened directly off the seating/kitchen area. There was a mop and bucket obstructing the passage to the toilet, and it was a dark area. The person who served us was alone, and did some work on the floor while we were eating. She clearly had a very small area to work in and which appeared to have little regard for hygiene. We were quite startled by the attitude in this place.

Very disappointed. I had come here a year ago looking for a cannolo to remind me of Italy as I am half Italian and have a love for Sicilian desserts. The cannoli I got a year ago were delicious and reminiscent of an authentic one from Palermo and i used to go fairly often. Recently, I was in the area so I decided to go back in to get a treat and the cannolo was not only stale but was not made with crema di ricotta which is the recipe. Instead it was replaced with a cheaper alternative. I think just some sort of sugar concoction. The shell was soft as it had clearly been made days, if not weeks ago and the orange peel had fallen off. The woman who served me was miserable. To add to this, I paid £4.50, which last year I was happy to pay as although it was overpriced, it was the best cannolo I had eaten in the UK. But £4.50 for what I bought today is unacceptable. I will not be returning and it’s a shame a small business would skimp on ingredients and lose loyal customers in the process.

Exceptionally disappointing. Went for lunch but there was nothing but salad, no paninis or Italian flat bread, didn't want to put pizza oven on so just had coffee & won't return as it was very clear member of staff had no interest, she made lots of noise knocking into chairs & stools and could offer nothing to eat. Can understand oven may cost money to run but please just put a notice on chalk board so people know what's not available.

Went for lunch with two friends, asked about the specials, told none today so ordered two chicken, bacon, tomato and rocket Panini’s One Don Corleone salad. Reply no chicken ! So ordered the salad with out chicken and ordered two pizzas, to which the waitress asked if we wanted the pizzas has there would be a delay because they would need to turn the oven on !!! Persevered and ordered the pizzas One of the the pizzas didn’t have all the ingredients because they didn’t have them. Won’t be returning.

Not easy to find the designer Centre Caffe Valeria but will review here. It’s well worth visiting. Delish coffees from an independent supplier. We weren’t going to have a cake until we saw what was on display - the chocolate cake with cherry and coffee was divine, my piece of cheesecake was very nice but even that paled with the chocolate cake. Staff refreshingly friendly and knew their stuff. Good place to come and it’s a given that the Wheldrake experience will be just as good in my thoughts.

We stumbled across this café by chance, but what a delight it is. It was stocked to the gunnels with food for Christmas hampers but that added to the ambience. Genuine Sicilian products were available to buy. We had coffee and cannoli (the flavours were extensive!) Both were lovely and if we lived in the area we would absolutely be returning here regularly.

What an absolute gem - Wheldrake is very lucky to have a cafe in its midst that is so good. The cakes and pastries are magnificent, portions are large, service is great, coffee is wonderful. Just wish Valeria could open an identical cafe in my home village!

What a lovely place. Great coffee, paninis and fabulous torte and cannoli. First time I’ve ever visited and it won’t be the last. Young man serving was polite and friendly, food excellent. Everything is made up from scratch, so it isn’t fast, but as long as you understand that, it’s worth the wait. Not what I expected to find in such a rural location, a real hidden gem.

The Exhibition is a grand old pub dating from 1702 that is situated on a very busy junction opposite Bootham Bar in York. As you enter up the steep couple of steps you are greeted by dark and atmospheric front room which is split by the central bar, it's a mish mash of Victorian and Art Deco with every single bit of wall space occupied with old photos, paintings, brasses and other Breweriana. There are wood panels, glowing yellow lighting and rich dark red ceiling which envelops you into the cosy space. There's so much to take in, especially the Art Deco stained glass panels and large fireplace, you'd almost be distracted from the offerings behind the bar. Which are not the most exciting but there's at least usually a couple of beers from Brew York, Black Sheep and Timothy Taylors, all priced at the usual City centre prices. Where The Exhibition really excels is it's outside space, if you follow your way around to the back of the bar and down a fairy light lit corridor it opens out first into a large conservator which is used for group bookings and then out into what is clearly the biggest and best Beer Garden in York! A beautifully secluded long yard with mature plants and great vintage wall art throughout. The only slight let down is the rather Victorian toilets which could probably do with a bit of an update but otherwise this is a very much overlooked pub that is superb in Summer and would be nice and welcoming inside any time of the year.

Popped in for a bit to eat and last time we came here, we had our dog with us and sat outside. This time we were seated up stairs and it’s clean and staff very attentive and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The Yorkshire breakfast was lovely and a bit too much for me, but the poached eggs were the star, perfect and thank you.
