Caffe Nero in Selby

Normalmente estoy bien con el café Nero, pero a pesar de su excelente ubicación en Cobregate esta sucursal no está a la altura de los estándares habituales. Aspecto descuidado en general, muebles bastante sucios y manchados. Tuvimos que cambiar la silla de nuestra mesa ya que estaba muy manchada y sucia. Las mesas no muy limpias no creen que tengan suficiente personal ya que el aprendiz de barista parecía no estar supervisado.

Coffee was good as always, but the barista gave me a snarky “You’re welcome” after not saying thank you for handing over a spoon. The barista did not sanitize hands after eating nuts, and thought I should be grateful to receive the tissue and spoon from an unclean hand.

Very nice place for tea, coffee and food.

just ok. Staff less stretched on a quieter Sunday afternoon. Decent tea!

Popped in here a couple of times to have a sit down and watch the world go by while I was visiting York and could not have been happier with the customer service and atmosphere.

I really love this cafe, first time to visit UK, I'm looking for a comfortable palace to absorb wonderful moments here, so this cafe answer my response. The test is pretty excellent. I really love it.

Every time I visit they seem to be understaffed and unable to keep the tables clean and clear of the items previous customers have left. General cleanliness also seems to be problematic with the toilets generally not too pleasant. The coffee is prepared to the usual Nero standards and is OK, it's just a shame the atmosphere doesn't really make you want to stay and enjoy it.

Coffee ok, but the place was a total mess. Almost no clean/empty tables to sit down. Very disappointed as I had an image of Cafe Nero being a good cafe to spend the time and have a nice coffee.

Visited on Saturday 27th July (mid Morning) Due to the lack of Staff, the cleanliness of the Restaurant was not what it should have been. Tables littered with dirty cups and plates and only cleaned intermittently, not the fault of the limited amount of Staff, they were having to leave the cleaning, due to it being very busy and having to assist with serving. Numerous coffee stains on walls, near where we sat (scroll in on photo), had obviously not been cleaned for some time, similar to the padded bench seats that could do with a very good clean.

Still serving the best tasting coffee ☕️ and snack experience. Made even better by excellent staff, who create a friendly relaxed environment away from the busy streets.

Wasn't as good as the previous visit. Took a while to get served, in the time it took we changed our minds to 'take out'.

Not the best Caffè Nero that I have been to, and certainly the two young girls who served me are poor ambassadors to the brand. Concerning that I asked for oat milk, only to see they were making my drink with cows milk. Lucky I don’t have a severe allergy! I certainly wouldn’t trust these two to make me a drink in future.

Stood in a queue to get served ,only trainee serving,2 trained baristas at the side not interested in customers, walked out after 5mins of not being served.Will not be using this cafe nero again

Staff were disorganised and disinterested. When handing out drinks, they were just chatting to each other and couldn't even tell me what each drink was. Drinks were watery and one was lukewarm. Lots of seats available.

We arrived at 17:56 (this one doesn't close until 19:30) and ordered a drink each and one of the caramel shortbreads on display at which point we were told they weren't for sale because "they are for tomorrow" which really isn't what I expected. If food is on display an hour and a half before closing I expect to be able to buy it, secondly they're leaving cake out all night to be consumed the following day, surely it should be put out on the morning of the day you sell it. On top of that the toilets are unavailable.. just really not good enough for a busy Saturday afternoon.

Best tasting coffee of all big name coffee shops in my opinion

Ordered an iced Americano and a iced velvet latte. The Americano had 2 cubes of ice and the iced velvet Americano was just room temperature. The person was friendly with the service and everything but the drink was not even close to iced. Disappointed. I don't generally leave a bad review, but the word iced drink has an expectation.

Walked in on a Tuesday afternoon, the cafe was empty. Three staff, one was making a drink, one on their phone, one wiping down. All three ignored me standing there, after about a minute of being ghosted I walked out.

Nice atmosphere. Delicious porridge. Will return. Note: try the Scones.

As you would expect from a Caffé Nero, the atmosphere was fine and is pleasant to be in but I don't think I would go back to this particular outlet when 5 seconds down the street is a much nicer outlet of the same cafe. The drinks took a hilarious amount of time to be made to the point that when we got them they had gone cold, and honestly the taste was not up to the same standard as other times I've been to a Caffé Nero. I used the bathroom whilst at the cafe and it was horrible! According to the cleaning sheet it had not been checked all day and there was literal trash on the floor and the room was covered in toilet paper. The room smelled and I felt like I should wash my hands after leaving the room, there was a queue for the single bathroom (one per gender, and up some steep stairs) and I had to apologise to the man after me and explain it was like that already as I was embarrassed to leave a room that was in such a state. If you want a quick coffee in York, then always go to an independent shop as these are usually better! If you have to go to a chain then just please go to any of the other like 5 Caffé Nero's that are within a 5 minute walk in the city centre.

The staff really make this place a friendly atmosphere with great coffee.

Service was terrible. 4 Baristas behind the bar. Two were just chatting other two were just been very slow. There was about 8 people in the queue. I was waiting 20 minutes to be served. I'm a Master Barista myself. Was actually trained by Cafe Nero over 20 year's ago. In that 20 minutes. I could have served 20 people +. And have. The worst Cafe Nero I have ever been in. The two lad's just chatting. I wouldn't hesitate in sacking them. The coffee tasted like treacle. Terrible. If a could give No stars I would.

Very friendly patient staff. Enjoyed my visit. Just very busy and lots of messy tables but staff were busy seeing to customers

Not dog friendly… Bought drinks & we have a small puppy who has anxiety so he sat on my partners lap. Rudely told to put him on floor as it’s apparently health & safety nonsense. I’ve worked in hospitality for 20 years. I would suggest head office to look into the angry rude manager

Took almost 30 mins to que and sit for a coffee. Only 2 staff members for a Sunday lunch every table was dirty full of cups. The whole building was very tired crubby the walk to the toilet you can see years of build up of dirt then in the actual toilets just so dirty 🤢my 1st time in a cafe Nero definitely will not be heading back anytime soon 😖

Absolutely the worst caffé nero i ever been. Disgusting toilets, dirty tables, two lazy bartenders... The whole bar and around the coffee machine area was unbelievable... So dirty!!!! The place wasn't even busy when we were there. Never ever!

Your disabled toilet is disgusting. To expect anyone to use that is disgraceful. The filthiest toilet I have ever seen. The sink is unusable due to hygiene reasons. The whole room is shocking.

Caffè Nero York Coppergate is a pleasant branch of the chain. On a wet Friday morning it was pretty quiet so service was swift and efficient, so I can only assume that previous reviews re slow service clearly reflect busier times. As expected, my coffee and toasted sandwich were excellent.

I was there 8th January and did not like my experience at all. The staff seem to have been very flustered, not knowing where things were and took way too long to make my coffee and serve others. It wasn't busy at all when we were there. The 2 staff actually working seemed new and students, so maybe why it was as it was, I take it the manager was there, but took no interest in anything and left the staff to it and left the coffee shop. The place looked on the grubby side and the toilets were not clean at all. I think Nero is the best high street coffee shop, but mine and my partners brews were not the best, trainee barista staff possibly, so maybe why it was not the best. We did go in 2 other Neros on our stay and they were a whole lot better in every way.

I agree with other comments that service is disappointing and slow. When I visited today the queues were back to the door and the two members of staff seemed unaware of the people waiting and kept chatting to each other at the coffee machine - thus slowing all of the service down. This poor service has been evident for a couple of years now and I'm suprised it hasn't been addresses

Huge wait for service. Apparently short staffed. Poor lady was run off her feet.

This was a non-visit. I waited in line for more than ten minutes to be served, with perhaps another ten minutes likely. Then I saw them serve a customer with Hot Chocolate and I realised this was just a hot powdery milk shake. Caffe Nero used to make a Chocolate Milano which was sourced from a dark chocolate liquid kept in the fridge. Then I realised this product is no longer served so I quit the queue and went home.

Quick service however couldn't stop as not enough staff on so was get served and leave the staff off were do lovely but rushed off their feet bless them

Staff were very slow and too busy chatting to one another..service terrible. Question were long..tables not cleaned had to move pots myself to sit down.

Agree with previous reviews - very dirty. Have noticed this with many Cafe Nero's recently. Also, queues have got longer.

First visit to The Wetherby branch Very disappointed staff uninterested didn't listen to order then when told of the mistake said " well you have to pay more for that " which obviously was ok as that was our order in the first place Not intending to return

Like all Nero's they don't mind having a long que... If you want a quick takeaway go elsewhere. But it is a nice place and the staff are good so I keep going back.

Absolutely disgusting, utterly filthy and unhygienic. Leaves a lot to be desired considering the reputation cafe Nero has. Surprised this place is still open to say the number of complaints regarding cleanliness is shockingly high. Never seen a cafe like it and will never return. I have logged a complaint directly with cafe Nero and will be sending photos to environmental health in due course. The thought this place serves food makes me sick! There surely cannot be a manager at this store - either that or they must be blind !! Avoid avoid avoid .

Food was vile. i saw elphaba. Wont be returning. Child saw gum under table (probably elphys) and ate it.

What can I say, coffee great as always but filthy tables, had to clear our own, lots of cups etc not collected, should never have to clear the tables yourself. We (4 of us) would not have eaten here. The toilet was disgusting, you'd think that post covid it would be all important, top of the agenda, to keep things clean. And cafe Nero do not sell a decaff coffee...... Who knew!

Coffee was nice but the toilet is the worst and most dirty and smelly I have encountered in a long time and a real surprise in a big chain such as Nero. The soap dispenser was empty and the refill soap bag simply sitting in a basket on the back of the toilet.

We went in for coffee and croissant and the ladies toilet upstairs was out of use so I used the disabled one downstairs, I was shocked by the state of it it was filthy paper all over the floor dirty wash basin ,it looked like it hadn't been cleaned for weeks

As is typical with lots of Nero coffee shops nowadays, the place itself was a little grubby and toilets were disgusting. Staff seemed quite disorganised and were slow serving despite there being three staff behind the counter and one more clearing tables (although there were lots of tables hadn't been cleared). The staff also seemed quite unhappy. On a positive note, the coffee was delicious!

Awful experience. Plain and simple I got stolen there. And they didn't even cared. I was having breakfast, went to the toilet for a minute and when I came back my tray was gone, an old lady was sitting in my place and my umbrella was gone. Apparently no one knew anything. They didn't even cared about my situation. First they told me that someone might have moved my tray and things.. Then a waiter confessed that she took it away. But nothing from my substracted item. That's all it took 1 min. So I will avoid going there. If it was not the staff it was the old lady.. Anyway.. Not a pleasant place to be. Better go anywhere else

This cafe Nero was just as good as all the other's I have been to. The reason I gave it four stars is that it was a very warm day in York and the air conditioning was either broken of switched off.

Not enough staff so had quite a wait. The cakes made up for the wait, delicious.

This is my "go to" coffee place in York. Coffee is lovely, the venue itself is cosy and relaxing and the staff are always excellent. Another added bonus is this particular branch is dog friendly. I had my dog with me months ago (who is blind) and tied him outside, I was in the queue constantly keeping an eye on him when the staff said dogs were allowed in. I rang up this morning to check they're dog friendly still as I'm planning to go there and they are, which is amazing. They are currently understaffed I believe so sometimes the queue is slow to move, however most places are like that and the staff do an excellent job of keeping up with customers.

The hot chocolate was very nice and the cake was delicious.
