Friendly staff, Service is not the fastest and long queues can happen at busier times, drinks are great, quality is good. Tastecard discount as well 25% off which makes it even better :)

We visited on Mon 7th April. It looked as if the café was short staffed, the upstairs seats were closed off, which was no problem to us. The seats we wanted to use were dirty thinking that I was helping I asked for a brush to give them a clean, a woman did give them a wipe off, I finished it off before I sat down! I ordered two coffees, a hazelnut latte and a cappuccino. I asked if I could have sprinkles on my cappuccino, the same member of staff who had wiped my chair served me. She snapped at me saying I'd ordered two latte's, she took my mug away, made me a cappuccino and didn't speak to me throughout. The staff in all the other Nero's I've ever been in are always so pleasant and chatty, so this was something of a shock! I sat down with my coffee but was only able to drink half of it because it was too sweet; my cappuccino hadn't been made in a clean mug, she had tipped away the hazelnut latte and made my coffee in the same mug, a load of syrup was still in it! Very disappointed ☹️

Popped in for a coffee whilst on holiday. Really old building, lovely character. I am disabled, use a walking stick, but wasn't offered to bring drinks over to table. Toilets are up 2 flights of stairs. Not disabled friendly.

The coffee was poor today, very little flavour at all and the queue in here is always really slow. Close to 20 minutes to get served - the queue in here is always really slow moving. It's a shame as I used to like going here but I'll be avoiding it in future.

Lovely old building staff were ok but too quiet and no atmosphere at all.

This is a very dark cafe, it could do with some lighting and also a good clean to make it more welcoming. The fireplace looks like it hasn't seen a cleaner in years (there are loads of cobwebs that hang down from the chimney and they have been there everything we've been in and the kids have a deep layer of dust). Staff are friendly and coffees are usually fine.

Pleasant coffee lounge, lots of seating, wooden boards, atmospheric. Numerous things to eat. Spacious. Coffee was actually quite good.

Anywhere that charges more money why for a flat white than a latte is a conning you. Flat white is less milk and less cup size than a latte yet 15p more expensive. This is Nero literally exploiting their customer base. When I questioned this in store the manager was ignorant and more concerned with what she was doing in the tablet/phone than trying to understand my issue.

Beautiful building but a badly run branch. Dirty tables, never any Wi-Fi working so can’t use the app. Very dirty and grubby feel. Toilets are filthy. Come on Nero you can do better!

The best building in Taunton, always short staffed and there's always a queue to be served because of the variety of drinks available. Rubbish vegan food options, but that's all Nero's.

Fantastic atmosphere in a very old place of 1578. Dogs are allowed too. Dogs love to chill in Cafe Nero just as much as you do when you can relax in the chair.

The staff were extremely friendly & helpful. We only purchased drinks during this visit & our coffees couldn't be faulted, they were nice & hot with plenty of flavour.

Probably the most beautiful Caffè Nero of them all. Stunning and huge tudor building. Great service and lovely place for a drink.

The toilet facilities are in need of an overall, but in the meantime, a good clean may help to get rid of the smell of urine.

Stopped in for coffee cake with friend i asked for chocolate something cheesecake and the girl that was serving me said is it chocolate muffin no its cheese cake i replied they had no trays for anybody and when we sat down there was a water leak coming through the ceiling i told staff member she was not very polite I told her again as it was getting worse she went upstairs took a moped apparently it was a sink over flowing in the toilet then came down moped the shop floor with the same mop not health hygiene here as I know should be separate mops she just didn't care that she just spread water around not actually dried it with blue roll or anything just put wet floor signs up but still wet and bigger unbelievable also all trays were actually on the tables with loads of cups plates will not b going back here

I appreciate it is a historic building, but Cafe Nero looks and feels very tired and needs some attention and love from the owners

This is a beautiful atmospheric place where I always feel relaxed and happy, but the toilets really let the place down. They are horrible and today so dirty that I felt embarrassed to show my friend from London who came to visit me in Taunton, where they were.

I have been having coffee in this shop almost daily for 5 years. In the last year it has gone downhill and I have noticed that many regulars have gone elsewhere. The queues are long and slow. The staff turnover is frequent and many are lazy and gossip. I also think that it could be cleaner. What a shame, the ambiance has changed.! ☹️

Staff absolutely brilliant. Food excellent as is the coffee. Always busy but that's to be expected. If a thing is worth it then it's worth waiting for. As for the building all I can say is it has to be seen to believe. It's absolutely wonderful

The place is dirty in all aspects the front display and all coffee areas look a mess and the floor behind the till looks filthy. Basic stuff that should be done daily. It’s not being done monthly by the look of it

Very mixed feelings. On one hand I do like Caffe Nero, and I do like this particular building very much, it's historic and has character. But... the service is awful. I visited this weekend and last weekend, and both times they were just so, so slow. I saw a number of people giving up waiting, and the front of the store was a heaving mess of people just waiting for their drinks to be made. I have never known a coffee shop with such slow service, ever. It was really bad. Last weekend when I went in, the barista was more interested in talking to her colleague than doing her job, to the point where as she poured my espresso shot into the cup, she spilt a proportion of it as she wasn't looking at what she was doing. Pretty unforgivable for a barista, really, when coffee is the heart of their job. One other thing - the coffee here is served undrinkably hot. Even with a cardboard sleeve the cup was almost too hot to hold. Coffee shouldn't be that hot. Something is very wrong here. This branch needs some management attention and some staff retraining, as it's letting down the brand. And I rarely post bad reviews, but this one needed it.

Always a wait, for unfathomable reasons. Drafty, dusty and tired. Good coffee when you eventually get it.

Given there’s plenty of choice in Taunton, and one of the main reasons to chose cafe nerro is the amazing medieval building, to have the gallery - the best bit - permanently closed ‘for cleaning’ is a terrible waste…

Always only one barista on at peak times in the morning. Seems to be a staffing issue, waited 25 minutes for one coffee. Takes so long

Service was pretty slow, they got my order wrong, and I didn't get my usual discount.

Fantastic Tudor building in which you can drink your favourite brew whilst looking up at the ceiling!

Very very slow service and only take away cups available. But the worst thing was watching the older woman of the two litrally kick a metal jug into the kitchen, twice. It was quite awkward tbh.

Taunton branch is terrible always slow to serve today with people queuing out the door one staff member decided to stop serving and disappear for a while another reluctantly came out of the wash up then one other who was serving decided not to continue and started cleaning up the serving area which wasn’t that untidy and move other items around . None of them seemed to be very happy failed to interact with the customers just a terrible experience all round if it wasn’t for my meerkat discount I’d have gone elsewhere.

What’s gone wrong here? It’s dirty, tatty and opening hours are erratic. The rows of used milk jugs lined the counter clearly unwashed. Tried to enjoy a coffee here but very difficult with the manager shouting every five minutes. “Restricted seating only - get a seat before you order” “Closing early you’ve got 15 minutes” “Darling this and that.. “ Her voice echoes through the building. It’s not a nice peaceful experience whatsoever and the coffee was lukewarm!

The ladies and gents toilets are disgusting especially when you consider food is being served here, it sends out the wrong message! The place is run down and needs a new refit!!

I’ve worked in the hospitality industry and cafes for a while and if any of my managers saw this they would not be impressed. Firstly, queue going out the door because staff are taking ages to fulfill orders. When I did come to order, the lady (who handled my food and drinks) kept coughing and apologising because “she’s ill”. When I did get my food and drinks, my sandwiches (one bacon and one tomato and mozzarella) were on the same plate. As a vegetarian, I was obviously dissatisfied with this, but couldn’t be bothered to wait longer and have the other sandwich and coffees go cold. My mother went over to ask for a second plate and explained that she had put a meat sandwich and a veggie sandwich on the same plate, the lady who served me told her “it wasn’t an issue” and then heavily sighed when my mother still wanted the second plate. Coffee tastes bitter due to baristas not cleaning group head properly in between pulling shots. A staff member clearing tables tried to take my plate with half a sandwich still on it. Overall, really poor experience.

The lattes were lovely when we visited on New Year's Eve, but the cleanliness of the place leaves a lot to be desired. There were old cobwebs hanging across the corners of the window. There were also lots of tables that needed cleaning, so we were unable to find a good one. We asked the man (trainee barista) who was collecting cups, to clean a table for us and he removed the cups and tray, cleaned the tray, but left our table dirty....this same person was later seen sneezing into his hand and then proceeding to prepare food. Another barista said 'bless you' to him, but didn't even think to recommend he washed his hands....Disgusting....

My favourite coffee shop with friendly staff. Never had a bad experience.

Paid £18.59 for lunch this included a tomatoe soup No ciabata in a cardboard cuo, tuna panini half cold, coffee and orange juice. In neros site ut clearly states all soup us served with a ciabata and butter, nothing. When we asked the lady stated we never givevtolls, CON ARTISTS AND RIPPED US OFF. Have complained to head office stay away from this place

Staff very helpful @friendly the only problem is it's not that clean the bay windows have wild life in the form of spiders and its thick with cobwebs and dust .by the look of it it's not been cleaned since Mrs Haversham visited in the 1800s cleanliness not big here.dont sit in the bay windows.

I come here with my partner probably every other week, if not weekly, and I must say it never dissapoints. The building is the oldest building in Taunton, very fascinating, with Tudor architecture and a lot of character. The food and the drinks are always on point and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend their pork and pancetta sausage roll or the vegetarian sausage roll 👌🏻

Helpful staff and friendly service..clean restaurant area in stunning building…lots of historic references to the Judge known as the hanging Judge Jeffries …plenty of comfortable seating with charging points for lap tops / phones (assuming you have your own cable of course)…toilets on upper floor … very pleasant background music - good quality coffee and enjoyable pastries

Much better, fresher drinks than Costa. More diverse variation and much friendlier, very under rated. Got a phenomenal pisctaccio frappe, so good in fact I grabbed a second drink. Usually I walk out after 1, but not during this visit. Magnificent.

Hot chocolate with cream is amazing here and add to that a slice of caramel shortbread and it's on another level. Love it.

Food and drinks were excellent. Very slow service, it took over 10 minutes to complete our order of two focaccia's, two cakes and two drinks. Person taking the order went off halfway through ordering to make the drink and then had to go back and forth to make the other. Dirty cups and plates left on the majority of tables. Very dusty and cobwebby - yes it's an old building but when you walk in and immediately see cobwebs at chest height it's not great... Also not great that there's no ramp to the back of the cafe, making it inaccessible unless you want to sit next to everyone queueing

Popular coffee shop located in one of Taunton's oldest and most historic buildings. Good indoor and outdoor seating. Free WiFi. Can get busy at peak times, ie early morning and lunchtimes.

Google Maps and the website as well say it opens at 7am on Saturday's. Arrived at 07:15 and doors were locked. Disappointed as I wanted my early morning coffee before long journey Edit: second visit, slow service

This is a surprising coffee shop . It is huge inside and all beems and timber framed.

I had a cold cappacino which wss the worst i had tasted as the coffee seemed to seperate from the milk which made it look and taste awful.

Typical dark, cosy coffee shop. Love the rustic feeling inside. Can't comment on the food as not eaten there, but the coffee and hot chocolates are just average, if I'm honest! Staff friendly though!

I ordered a Caramel Latte which is on the luxury board but it came un luxury ie no cream or caramel drizzle. I love Nero and my coffee was nice but soured by the service which was disappointing. This a treat for me, and was looking forward to it. It costs nothing to be pleasant even if you have been very busy or having a bad day. I left fedling deflated.

This Cafe Nero is in a lovely old building which makes it a very nice atmosphere for a coffee, chat and relax. Staff were friendly, our order was ready promptly and the coffee tasty. Dog friendly too, would definitely recommend a visit.

It's a bog standard Cafe Nero, but it's in a beautiful Tudor building.

Always happy to go to Cafe Nero first thing in the morning for coffee and a relaxing moment before a busy day.

Nice place for coffee but the tables are never cleared in a timely manner, leaving little choice of where to sit without moving dirty cups and plates to another table! Here on Saturday morning around 9.30 and most tables full of dirty dishes - not a good look.

Go here every week with my grandson and enjoy the coffee . However I am fed up with the state of the toilets! There is either something missing, Broken, out of order or like today… an over flowing sanitary bin. PLEASE. Can someone sort these toilets out !!

I have always enjoyed coming to Cafe Nero in Taunton as the coffee is the best. However, it has really gone downhill. At a busy time, there is only one person serving (as the other person is busy dealing with the Uber Eats orders!). I waited over 30 minutes just to get a coffee. This is just not good enough 😕

It's really odd they make you move out of most of the cafe late afternoon hours before they close. Quite disappointing as we had our laptops etc set up and were made to move to an already full area. Coffee is nice and so is the building. Just annoying that they close the nicest part of the cafe way before the cafe closes

Cafe Nero are good there coffee is much better than the chain that does not pay any tax on its profits. The staff are friendly and patient with customers who suddenly add extra things to the order. Comfortable seats and a nice buzz to the place.

The place itself is good, but that can't be said for all the staff. There was a few people, including myself and family that had just sat down with our food and drinks for lunch, when one of the women working there announces the area we're sat in will be closed off in 6 minutes and we all have to move to a different part of the cafe that was already full. Expecting us to then go and stand in the other area to eat our food. Not very good customer service at all.

This is a beautiful building, There was a long queue, there were a few staff who seemed very relaxed, chatting and one or another would seem to check seating areas were closed. I sent my child to sit at a centre table to have a place to sit. Others were offered only takeaway. Not the best experience, this place used to be so lovely!

The Guy who served me with my latte forgot to put my cup on a saucer , so after he had pored my drink he picked my cup up around where I drink placing his whole hand over my cup . His hands didn't look that clean . The windows and wood work are disgustingly dirty the whole shop needs a good clean. I won't be returning.

Internet speed is dreadful, 1.9Mbps Download Speed, head office need to sort this problem out, can't have a proper Teams meeting. Other than that, staff friendly and decent coffee.....

What a dirty filthy place you can write your name in the dust and the trolley that was by our table looked like it hadn't seen a cloth let alone water for a very long time One of the staff had a t shirt on that wa stained and needed a good wash and this was early in the day I think it's so dirty even the table was concerning if my husband hadn't already got the drinks I would of walked straight out The staff had time to mess about shame they don't use that time to clean they were in the corner behind the counter acting like children although the kids in there were much better behaved Would definitely not recommend this place I would of given them zero star rating but you have to give at least one for the review
