Fabulous breakfast menu with wide range of options. Quality food served and great value for money. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The environment is spotlessly clean and welcoming. Personal recommendation: Mushroom Eggs Benedict - superb!

Had a takeaway on Thursday night and it was lovely, plenty of choice, reasonably priced and only took 25/30 mins to arrive, we had two portions of the sticky beef with flatbread and Cheeseburger and chunky chips, the chips were the best we’ve had in a long time, the food was piping hot which is a big plus too

Delicious food, great quality food and friendly, fast service. Also one of the only coffee shops who serve gingerbread lattes all year round! Highly recommended!

(We actually visited twice - once in the evening for a private function, then again next morning for breakfast.) It's a great place. The furniture was rearranged for the two different visits, with a lively, sociable arrangement in the evening, then in a smaller table setup for breakfast. We had main meals in the evening which were delicious, and then equally good breakfasts. Portions were very generous. The selection of drinks is impressive. It works well as a café and restaurant, which isn't easy to pull off. Service was friendly and efficient. We would certainly recommend a visit.

I've visited the cafe during the day several times now with family. The food is OK. It's quite a smart cafe but the food and coffee quality is quite basic. The service also is a bit ropey. You can order something quite simple but it always seems to take longer than it should to come. There has always been plenty of staff but they don't seem to do a lot. The main thing I found strange is that once you are finished your food they don't come and remove the dishes. So you're left trying to finish your coffee with a messy table. It's a nice looking place but it doesn't seem the staff have much experience in how a restaurant works.

I've been a few times 'cos it's always been okay, but this time was so disappointing. The breakfast was okay, but nothing special, the staff didn't seem to want to be there, and they refused to honour loyalty cards. These are cards that should entitle us to a drink 'on the house' after buying quite a few and earning them (and showing loyalty, I suppose), but they have seemingly, and suddenly, decided to not recipricate customer loyalty ! If loyalty cards are offered/used and they don't honour them we are being conned, aren't we !

Went to an Abba night last week and had a brilliant night, staff are the very best, so friendly and accommodating, it is local to me and well worth a visit either day or night

Have tried the day menu and night menu a couple of times. Food is always spot on and it has an extensive drinks menu. Prices are really reasonable, generous portion sizes and consistently excellent service. Always have offers on like 6 bottles of lager for 12 pound! Highly recommended 👌

Disappointed. Have been here a few times both with friends and on my own. Not the best atmosphere and customer service is pretty poor from the older staff. No table service, which could be forgiven but the staff are unfriendly and rude. Would not go again. There is another place to eat round the corner which is so much better.

I have visited the cafe today with my daughter. Very disappointing! The coffee was served 15 minutes before our food. My food was cold. I are some. When we git outside my daughter told me her food was cold as well.

I came with my family on a busy Saturday night. Luckily we had booked a table the day before. The staff serving were excellent. They were busy but didn’t rush us and were lovely. We ordered tapas to share. We were told there might be a wait but it it wasn’t long at all. When the food came the staff kindly pushed another table next to ours so we had more room. The food was beautiful. My kids tucked into everything and now tell me that calamari is their favourite food, even better than chicken nuggets! The staff came over to check everything was ok and even the chef came out of the kitchen to see if the food was ok which was nice. My husband and I were too full to have desert but we got some Oreo brownies to take home for the boys and they tell us they were amazing. Definitely recommend giving Cafe Mio a try. We can’t wait to come back.

Loved Cafe Mio... If you're visiting try the flatbread. Ive had breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails here and have never been disappointed. The staff ho out of their way to make you feel welcome. Especially Lisa who is always very friendly.

I visited with friends to try out the new food menu and cocktails. The food was beautiful and so many cocktails to try loved them! The staff are lovely especially Lisa very helpful and nice to talk to. I’ll definitely be going back to try more from the menu! 😊 all round great!

I don't visit this place as much as I would like too but when I do, the staff are so welcoming and friendly. The whole vibe in this place is relaxed and especially after busy periods, the customers and staff all get on well with each other, it's like a little community. People at different tables slowly moving to sit with each other. It's a lovely atmosphere. Lisa, is a hoot always full of smiles, so caring and funny - her relationship with the customers is so genuine and her heart is so big. The staff are obviously very close the way they work together is professional but fun. Sonia, is also delightful. Both girls go above and beyond in their job roles. Who needs a night out when you can have the chats, laughs, amazing food and drinks at Caffe Mio. Try the tikka toasted wrap you won't be disappointed. I'm yet to visit in the evening for the new menu and cocktails but I know they'll be as delicious as the day food. I did pop in for a fruity cider a few weeks ago at about 6pm and the atmosphere was just as lovely as it is during the day. Well done Caffe Mio.

Booked the free function room for an afternoon tea for 20 people for my mother’s 80th birthday. The staff were attentive and super friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious, an excellent selection of finger sandwiches, scones, quiche and delicious mini cakes....

Visité el martes con un grupo de amigos y tengo que decir que nos sorprendió muchísimo! Fue la primera vez que visitábamos como habíamos oído un montón de buenas críticas, pero nunca tuve el tiempo para entrar, tengo que decir que es una joya escondida. La decoración hace que el café muy cálido y amable, y tenía un café con leche con un trozo de tarta de fresa aparte de italiano la tarta y la oferta de café porque me había comido sólo largo no, pero tengo que decir que fue fabuloso! Un amigo tenía un capuchino y un queso y cebolla roja Sandwichera y ella era muy impresionados. Otro amigo tenía un moka y una crisis mexicana y dijo que para ella panini era delicioso y había recomendado que lo probamos la próxima vez que visitamos. Todo el personal era muy amable y estaba más que feliz de tener una charla que nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos. También hemos visto Publicidad de té de la tarde en la ventana y estamos planeando reservar muy pronto! No podemos esperar a volver.

Y mi hijo se ha visto su anuncio para el Great North Run, así que decidimos venir, pensamos lo que era fantástico! Me encantó comer nuestra comida mientras contempla el Great North Run y luego incluso pudimos ir y sentarse justo en la barandilla para ver mi esposa y padre dirigido anteriormente. Las naranjas daban eran geniales y tanto mi esposa y mi padre me dijo que eran una gran ayuda! El servicio era estupendo, casi sin tiempo de espera y todo el personal era muy amable aunque estaban muy ocupados. Volveremos a probar algo de comida más fabulosa! Esperamos hacer lo mismo de nuevo el próximo año!

Love everything about Caffe Mio, the food is lovely and fresh, it has a great atmosphere and the staff are lovely and go out of their way to make your visit a happy one. I would definitely recommend everyone tries it out.

We landed here after 3pm on Saturday, after discovering The Pantry, a few doors along was closed (don't know if it's gone for good - pity if it has, coffee was the best). At Caffe Mio my daughter had a toasted cheese and red onion sandwich, which she said was very good. I had a fruit scone but it was a bit dry and tasteless. The scones were kept under cover, but possibly not that air tight. However, the service was fine, and pleasant surroundings. I have been here when it was under different management, and I must say this experience was not as good as our previous ones. Of course an attentive Italian waiter and exceptional coffee the first time may have tipped the ratings scales against our second visit.

Stopped for lunch, they have a good selection of both drinks and food. The service was good however my BLT, wasn't that nice. Too much mayo, there quiche however was lovely :-)

Personally preferred it under old management. Coffee wasn't as nice as before and cafe was lacking in something. Nevertheless they have some great deals and looking forward to trying out the afternoon tea sometime.

Has undergone a change in management so changes obviously occurred. I'd say there were a couple of minor issues initially with the change but things have tapered out and the cafe is back to it's good old self.The coffee has such a nice flavour and I like that you can but it to make yourself. They've increased and improved their range of cakes, and staff are always friendly. They are always happy to add all our little extras and personal amendments to their panini range!We regularly book ahead which works for us on short lunchtime breaks.Love the place!

We called in here for a coffee while we were out walking. The coffee was really great and the staff were very friendly. The coffee shop was clean as a pin and decorated to a good standard. We will definitely call again.

Had a Xmas afternoon tea here on 23rd Dec have to say it was the best one I've had lovely fresh sandwhiches with lots of filling, Quiche, Scones with jam and cream, cakes,and Prosecco well worth the money and the staff were great making us feel very welcome, I would highly recommend it

My partner and I live local to the area so we have been regular visitors for some time now, including when it was under different ownership. Unfortunately we feel it no longer lives up to its previously high standards. We appreciate that it takes time to settle in so after we had our first disappointing visit once it had reopened, we still continued to frequent Caffe Mio. However each time, there was less and less available from the menu (the same menu it had previously offered - we wondered why not write a new one if you are not going to offer the items that are on there) and the service became increasingly slow. The staff come across as very friendly, but I'm afraid we found waiting 30 minutes for a coffee, and a further 30 minutes for a panini not up to scratch. The food that we have been able to try is still lovely, but not worth the long wait and limited menu. After several disappointing visits, I'm afraid we will no longer be coming to Caffe Mio.

My favourite Coffee shop..... I always receive a great welcome, The staff and food is meraviglioso, I can recommend to all visitors to South Shields. Its nestled into a lovely Shopping area away from the town centre. Well worth a wonder, passing through two pretty villages Westoe Village, and Harton Village a part of the town not mentioned very much to visitors. Local folk all shop around here a really busy shopping centre. The Nook is what we locals call the area. I hope you call in. buona giornata

This is a lovely clean and friendly cafe with pleasant helpful staff. Good value and high quality food. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff or management with a smile and easy chat. There is quite a comprehensive menu for a small private cafe. As well as the English style snacks there is a lovely Italian theme in the food which is a refreshing change. If you are in the area feeling peckish I recommend this establishment very much.

Love going to Caffé Mio. Kathryn and the team work so hard to ensure your Caffé Mio experience is great. A lovely change compared to all the other types of coffee shops in the area.

What can I say, absolutely lovely little cafe. Although the cafe was closed for a number of months over the Christmas period I was still welcomed by a warm smile and staff who were very polite. Although they seem to sell the same items it does not take away how nice they all are. The cakes especially are delicious. Full marks to them there is always a lovely atmosphere when I have visited. Kathryn who I suspect is the owner is very friendly and always has a smile for everyone. I can't understand the negative comments on here some people want to get a life rather than just having a moan. This is what the nook actually needs rather than any greasy spoon cafes, a little bit of upmarket class Well done Cafe Mio

Just passing and decided to pop in and am so pleased we did. Looking at all of the lovely inviting cakes, it was hard too choose! Coffee and chocolate was great, as was staff and service. Left very satisfied. Can't wait to go back and try other delights.

It was with a good deal of anticipation that we eagerly awaited Café Mio's reopening. We were delighted when it did; the same coffee, similar décor. We have waited to give a review, we appreciate settling in can take time.It's just not quite right! Staff who do not make an effort to chat or be friendly. They are polite but to create a good atmosphere you need more. No wine available. A less extensive choice of cakes etc. Initially a radio was playing although this may now have reverted back to some classical cool retro Italian, I hope so.The owners should aim to be better than in the past - to do so: ensure you have friendly happy staff; engage with clients (they will come back if you do); ensure some Italian sunshine comes through. Look at the produce you offer, make it good and different, you don't need a large menu but it needs to be better than it is. Some of my favourites seem to be missing (including a fabulous hot chocolate drink).The coffee is good and the makings are there - however, I never realised just how important having a warm friendly atmosphere was. This is missing at the moment, but I will review this again at the end of the summer and see if things get any better. If not I'll be moving on to pastures new. At the moment it is all an anti climax.

We used to visit Caffe Mio regularly before its prolonged closure after Christmas and were delighted to see that it was reopening. We waited for the day with excitement and anticipation. What a disappointment! Same décor, same food and drinks but the ambience was totally different. Something is definitely missing. We tried a few times as we were aware that they were new staff and probably needed to settle in - unfortunately it hasn't improved. Caffe Mio used to feel like a little piece of Italy in South Shields, now it is just another café.

First time been back since 're opened and I have to say it is still up to the excellent standard. Food and drinks was really nice. Staff were lovely and friendly. They went out of their way to cater for food allergy. Will defiantly be back soon.

I was waiting for this cafe to reopen and went here for lunch when I realised it was open. The person at the counter who took my order had no smile on her face, though she was polite. A simple order of a soup, a mocha, a black coffee and a panini. Everything arrived in 5 minutes. Soup was almost cold. Mocha had whipped cream on it, even though I said no when asked if I want whipped cream. The server took the mocha back and made another without cream on top. The smile-less lady said she would reheat my soup. Food was average, coffee was average. Nothing to rave about.

Please open soon! Outside there is all the hustle and bustle of life but in there is a nice friendly atmosphere and very good coffee!

Hope it opens to standard it was and the lovely staff. It has been very much missed. I would go on my own, work lunch and after work. So friendly and food was not like anywhere else.

My husband and I were regular visitors to Café Mio (virtually every day after our walk). Why oh why have they not reopened after the Christmas break? Please come back - we miss the lovely coffee, the great offer of cakes, the fantastic staff and the lovely owners. We have traveled extensively throughout Italy and adore the country. Caffe Mio is as good as any very good caffe in Italy. We are expresso snobs and are very particular about flavor and the expresso must be hot. Caffe Moi have it right. Their sandwiches are wonderful and the cakes are straight out if Italy. The serving staff and chef are first rate. Do not miss going to this little gem, you will keep going back for more.

I took my daughter and her friend after school for a treat..as it was pouring down with rain..I have got to say it was really lovely. .very homely with very friendly staff. The chocolate cake is a must...keep up the good work.

We are regulars at Caffe Mio and took our friend who was celebrating her birthday today as this place is great. Whatever you eat or drink you will never be disappointed. The service is great and all the staff are a credit to the owner, who has created a great ambience. Can't praise this place enough.

Rafael and Kerry together with their attentive staff provide excellent service in this popular cafe.There is a wide choice of cakes, pizza, snacks and beverages to choose from, and the premises are licenced so if a glass of wine or a bottle of Peroni takes your fancy?The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and there are many regular customers some of whom are in every day.The cafe is open seven days and provides tables outside for those who smoke.Parking is not a problem as the local area is not metered nor restricted. There is a disabled parking space just along from the premises.Caffe Mio is definitely the place to visit when in South Shields.

Having read the reviews I decided to try it for myself. Where do I start. They are the victims of their own success. It is a fairly small premises and would appear to be very popular. Nearly every table was taken at the time of my visit. To satisfy the demand they have fairly small tables close to each other. If you just want a coffee and cake / scone this is fine. But I wanted a lunch of sorts and while the choice is sandwiches, pannis and other light meals is good it is not terribly adventurous. Looking at the menu I presume they have no cooking facilities on site. and my partner and I order pannis. They took a little time to come ( they were busy ). Upon arrival they were nicely presented but served on small plates probably because of the size of the tables - you couldn't get two larger plates and two teas on them. I therefore ate most of my salad garnish - which was fine - off the table! Prices are very reasonable, service was pleasant although there is no interaction between staff and customers which is certainly because you place your order at the counter. If a waitress comes to you, you can at least feel relaxed and talk to them. Food was good - even off the table.As a café I would go again but it did not excite me in relation to other reviws would have you believe.

Just popped in for a very nice cup of coffee to catch up with a friend this morning. Staff very polite, and went out of their way to help. Coffee was very pleasing will be back!

If you are meeting friends for a chat or just want a sneezy treat then this is the place to go. Wonderful selection of drinks, cakes are out of this world and you can even treat yourself to something a little more special. Staff are very friendly.

I've passed this place a few times and always thought it looked lovely and welcoming. Such a shame it didn't live up to its first impressions. The coffee was poor quality with lots of froth on the top and very little coffee underneath.I decided to treat myself to a slice of cake, but I wish I hadn't bothered it was so dry and tasteless I left almost all of what I bought and will not be returning. Such a shame a beautiful coffee shop in a good location cannot live up to expectations

Great little coffee shop amongst a couple of rows of busy shops at the Nook in South Shields.Great selection of coffees, paninis, savouries etc as one would expect in a Nero, Costa or Starbucks but this place oozes a warmer charm and friendlier staff as opposed to walking into a conveyor belt operation that you get at one of the big coffee chains.Comfortable chairs, newspapers and a toilet are here as well as the lovely smell of an Italian coffee being made.For me the addition of a flat screen TV on the wall, even with the sound turned down would truly enhance this great little shop and a few power points would tempt more people into the shop to do business.Nevertheless a great little addition to the area.

Good food and drink at reasonable prices. Good location if you are shopping at the Nook or visiting Cleadon Park health centre. Parking may be an issue as although plenty of spaces, lunch times and weekends can be very busy.

Been a few times and it just gets better. The staff are lovely, always welcoming, food is fab. The menu is just what you need for a light lunch or tea time snack. Bruschetta with Parma ham and a prossecco( for wife ), happy days.Can't push this more, you really need to try it yourself.

went into caffe milo in april then may both times have been realy nice ,coffee was lovely, the shop is very clean .tidy ,bizzy but not where you couldn't get a seat ,the cakes lovely plenty to pick from well done just what the nook needed.
