I just happened to find by accident. Lovely pot of fresh tea and cake, delicious. A quaint, relaxing atmosphere seemed very popular

Staff very welcoming, food was excellent, decor was really unusual and lovely, dogs allowed here. Gluten free options available. Very popular. It is in the student area of Jesmond. Tables are a collection of different things, like and old school desk, or sewing machine stand. A very enjoyable experience.

Visited here for the first time last week after a recommendation. Lovely place! Lovely staff! Great decor and vibe. Fantastic menu that also caters very well for vegans, we had the breakfast butties (one meat one vegan) they were superb. Also dog friendly 😊

Was visiting a friend for the weekend in Newcastle who lives in Heaton and we decided to come here for brunch after seeing the reviews and good rating. It's a rainy day and we got there just before 11am and already there was a queue. We waited around 15 mins before being seated which wasn't too bad at all. But a tip to always come before 11 otherwise you are looking at waiting time for at least half an hour. The queue never disappeared while we were there for 1.5 hours and it's a cold day too so just factor that into your planning. You order at the counter after being given menus from the staff and we went with the salted caramel banoffee french toast and the beef Benedict. I also ordered an americano and my friend went with an oat latte. Coffee wasn't bad, no sour aftertaste which is my preference and it's a big mug of coffee so good value for money. Food wise gotta say it's quite average. My french toast was rather dry after the first couple bites and they also didn't add enough sauce to make it easier to chew and swallow. Liked the hazelnut crunch and Nutella toppings but would have appreciated a lot more of them. The slow-cooked beef Benedict was also disappointing. It was rather bland and dry although the portion of meat was very generous. The dish just didn't have much flavour on the whole which was rather a shame. We did like the interior design of the place and it's extremely spacious. It's a nice place for friends and family to catch up over some food and drinks but if you are looking for food quality this is probably not the best café out there.

They do an extensive range of really nice breakfast and lunch dishes. This includes the standard issue eggs Benedict. Which looks lovely. There's some stuff with avocado. Yuk! It does get busy. Arrive early to not have to queue. The queue does get long. You've been warned. All on one level including the toilets, so very wheelchair friendly. They also have a disabled toilet. The service is good. But they do look sick of their lives. They do take out and have an awesome selection of cakes.

Visited following a recommendation while in Newcastle and I can wholeheartedly say that the food is outstanding. Pricing initially looks a little on the expensive side but once you're served your meal and dig in it's worth every penny. The full English Hash was the best breakfast I've ever had. A must visit for anyone serious about good food.

There’s a few of the Caffe 1901’s around but this is the one for brunch. Good if you want a nice quality safe and traditional brunch option. The menu choices are standard. Didn’t have any problems with the full english. I added halloumi which was great. The breakfast brioche was tasty. There can be a bit of a queue on the weekend but it’s cosy inside so the queue moves quite quickly.

Have searched for a nice breakfast place in Newcastle for a while now which offers a great atmosphere mixed with amazing breakfast and this place is IT , 10/10 across the board. From music, food to staff all excel in 1901 Jesmond.

Welcoming and friendly atmosphere with great coffee. We absolutely loved the French Toast, delicious and beautifully presented.

Best vegetarian breakfast I’ve ever had! My boyfriend also found the standard Full English equally impressive. Such fantastic ingredients paired with generous portions. I am a visitor to the area and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious breakfast in such a cosy place.

A nice vibrant busy place that serves up good quality food

We visited for Breakfast after 9.30 and had to wait for a table. A wait that was well worth it. Fantastic food from a varied menu, presentation, quality and price were all very good. Very nice and friendly staff.

Whilst visiting Newcastle for a weekend we popped in for breakfast. There was quite a Que outside but we managed to get a table after 15 minutes. When ordering we were told there was a 35 minute wait for food and when our food was not with us at 45 we asked how much longer our food would be. The food came out literally a minute later and the server went above and beyond to rectify the delay. Thank you!

Very busy on a Saturday morning, but got a seat easy enough. Breakfast arrived before the coffee (which I think they forgot about). Good standard breakfast, but the staff are not particularly personable, but certainly not rude….possibly down to how busy they were. Overall, decent breakfast, coffee below average and service a tad lacking. Good, but not great.

I used to love 1901 and I used to go all the time. The staff where friendly and the foods great. However the customer service has gotten worse and the staff have been unfriendly. So we've stopped going.

Excellent tasty food with lots of options. Well made hot latte. Something for everyone with extensive menu and fresh baking. Cosy comfortable atmosphere , friendly helpful staff. What more can you ask for? The best breakfast/brunch place we visited on our trip to the UK. So good we went back the next day again before we left town. Everything was made fresh and tasted great in a world awash with reheated food. The revive fresh juice was superb as was my 1901 breakfast brioche! What every breakfast/ brunch place aspires to be but very few ever achieve. Well done!

It's a really cute, quaint place right in the heart of Jesmond. Lots of students and tourists alike, which brought a lovely atmosphere. Whilst the food and drinks were of great quality and large size, the price of coffee (in particular iced) was some of the most expensive I've seen. Understand this is due to locally sourcing ingredients and the location of the café in Jesmond, but worthwhile keeping in mind if you're planning a visit.

This is a gem of a place, really nice food. I enjoyed it so much i had breakfast here 2 mornings in a row. So super handy for the university close by

Just visited today as we just moved here, I absolutely love the decor and cosy feel, went up to order and the lady on the till wasn’t friendly which was a shame, however the food was absolutely amazing,I struggled to finish it, so well done to the chefs. I’m vegetarian and there’s plenty of options for vegans and veggies. The only thing I would say is that it wasn’t explained to us that there was two menus so the first one we picked up I wasn’t keen on the options, but then we realised there must be breakfast stuff on as we saw some hash browns so my boyfriend went to the menu box and saw there was several, maybe this should be explained when asking for a table or they should be on the tables ready, just a tip! Overall was nice and would go again. :)

Nice cafe in an unusual setting in the heart of jesmond. Very popular and a bit of a students haunt. Whilst it wasn’t overly busy on my visit, I still had to wait a good few minutes to get served. Seemed to be too much interaction between staff and not enough emphasis on getting on with serving. Waited at least 15 minutes for my coffee. Unacceptable!

The food might be lovely but the service is sadly lacking. Took ages for anyone even to approach and ask if wanted a table. Then waited ages for one to be cleaned. Which would normally be fine but the waitress had a real attitude and quite clearly couldn’t be bothered. Overrated and won’t be back.

Friendly service and great breakfast . We had to wait for a table for 5 but that’s surely a good sign and we weren’t disappointed. Just a suggestion, you could upsell by offering waiting guests drinks whilst they wait. Lovely stuff

Service was very disappointing. A waitress came out to us whilst waiting and said "Table for 3?"then said "Not got a table, just asking". We were seated for 20 minutes until a waitress asked us if we were OK. We replied we were waiting for someone to take our order and only told then we had to order at the counter. This also happened on the next table. There was an issue with another table where the party walked straight to the table and the waitress was quite sarcastic across to the serving counter when she didnt receive a reply from her colleagues. At least 3 instances that we saw of customers, including us, given the wrong order. Perhaps some of the staff were inexperienced and issues can be resolved going forward for a better customer service. Sincerely hope this feedback is received in the spirit of acceptance of honesty.

Lovely dog friendly cafe, my parents always suggest to come here when they visit with the dog. Great atmosphere and lovely staff! Even give out free pup treats.

Gluten free bread is available meaning that most of the breakfast menu is suitable for coeliacs so it's great to have so many options. I chose the hash bowl with halloumi which was very large and filling.

I had Creamy Mushrooms - Portobello mushrooms on sourdough toast - with a side order of bacon. It was delicious. I will return and try something else. Spoilt for choice. Friendly service as well. What more do you need?

Great options for everyone no matter if your vegan, vegetarian or a meat eater. And food is better quality than the piece, and aesthetic is on point super cosy.

The place is so nice and cozy, we had oat milk mochas and the fudge which was SO good, but would definitely recommend sharing!! Coffee was great, and the staff is very friendly :)

On a nostalgia trip to Jesmond, we were lucky enough to come across this super place! Although in a venerable old building, the cafe/bistro has a lovely contemporary atmosphere and the menu is large and varied. The sandwiches we ordered were really substantial, with lots of delicious ingredients packed in, and a proper side salad. Service was friendly and prompt. Wish Caffe 1901 had existed forty years ago when we lived round the corner!

Fabulous breakfast. Didn’t have tea as drink, but chose to go here because of the Bird and Blend tea they offer. Will return.

Amazing place. Amazing staff. Amazing food. Staff will always try to accommodate as much as they can but the only problem with this place is it's too nice and too popular. Its difficult to get a table sometimes. But takeaway is always on offer. They need a bigger place but then the authenticity wouldnt be there. Catch 22. Try it tho please. You won't be disappointed.

Brilliant breakfast. Great coffee. Everything was of the highest quality. We visited as a group, so sampled a fairly wide selection of veggie and non-veggie options between us. We were all very impressed. Long queues did develop while we were eating, but we arrived early ahead of the queues, and the food was well worth waiting for anyway

The food is delicious and there is a very good selection of savoury and sweet items. Ideal for breakfast, brunch or lunch. The atmosphere is good with a mix of students and locals. Service is friendly but as it is usually busy not the fastest.

What a fantastic breakfast menu,. It's a shame we only discovered this place on the last day of our stay in Newcastle. Quality ingredients cooked to perfection. I had a takeout of a couple of cheese scones and a slab of cake to eat later too.
