Fantastic food. Delicious. Service patchy.

First visit last night ,after recommendation . Food was excellent but unfortunately the service was very dissapointing.

Absolute gem of a restaurant! We came across it by chance, but we would recommend it to anyone who loves thai food. Friendly and very helpful.

Amazing experience. The staff were so friendly and attentive. Food was amazing. Our 2 children had chicken noodles and salmon teriyaki and the portions were huge and full of flavour. My wife and I had the assorted seafood with spicy sauce which was really tasty and decent spice level, we also had the lamb shank penang curry which is our favourite item on the menu the lamb shank was huge and so tender it fell off the bone. The sauce is aromatic and spicy.

Wonderful food, gorgeous interior attentive staff definitely would eat there everyday! Large food menu plenty of meat fish and veggie dishes.

Great food albeit a little pricey

Never pay service charge (you can take off that if you ask to) - the staffs dont get the shared service charge. Servers provide the services but cannot get any tips from them. They literally think the workers as their slaves. Awful management and boss ever. I feel so sorry about the people who working there. Disgusting lol.

Really enjoyed our meal at Mantra. The food was very tasty. Staff were lovely. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant too.

Great food. Great service and nice ambiance. We booked for lunch with a toddler. From the very start the staff where the right level of attentive, you didn’t feel like they where ignoring you at any point. Nor, they where dining with you. Food was great. Lunch time 2 course had a good range. The kids portion was insane, very good value. Little bonus, had parking too.

*It was our first time trying Thai food, and we truly had a wonderful experience!* The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. We also received a few complimentary items like Thai coffee, ice cream, and papad, which made the experience even more special. The restaurant was clean and hygienic, which added to our comfort. A special thanks to *Ms. Kavya*, who guided us through the menu so kindly. She welcomed us with a warm smile and provided excellent service throughout our visit. Overall, we really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. We would definitely love to visit again!

Spectacular. Everything about it, the setting, the service, the atmosphere, the food. Six different meals & everything we ate was first class. Booking was essential as it was extremely busy, however the service was friendly & efficient & the atmosphere was perfect. A spectacular experience.

Solicité bastante zona de restaurante y se colocó en la parte trasera del local abajo y fue fabuloso, nuestra camarera era simplemente maravilloso. Todo el personal es educado, inteligente y excelente. La comida, vaya. Recomiendo encarecidamente el plato de compartir. Viajaremos desde Northallerton solo para comer aquí de nuevo. Muy impresionado.

Fine Thai dining at Mantra. Great menu with something for everyone. Very well laid out and decorated restaurant. Staff are attentive and friendly. Reasonably priced for the environment and location. Well worth a trip we both loved our food.

Había oído grandes cosas sobre este restaurante y estaba contento de verlo participar en la semana del restaurante en enero, así que reservamos una mesa. Pedimos tostadas de langostinos y los rollitos de primavera para empezar y la carne principal con arroz jazmín. Primero nos sirvieron galletas de gambas, que venían con un baño encantador. Todo estaba fresco y cocinado bien, pero, después de todo el bombo, esperaba un poco más. My review would be a one star but my Thai wife rated her food an 8 out of 10, so it's an overall 3 star. But this is my review so here goes. The atmosphere is relaxed and quite quiet, which was nice. But a Thai restaurant that doesn't serve any Thai drinks loses a star and is disappointingly unusual. Our table kept on changing servers(we had a total of 5) because they didn't know the menu and couldn't answer our questions. A service charge of 10% added to the final bill was an unpleasant surprise. Maybe it was stated on the menu somewhere, but I didn't see it. For a table of four our bill came to £245. which is far too high. This is the most I've paid for a meal, ever. £3 for an egg, £4 for a very small scoop of ice cream and £4 for hot water and a Tea bag means I'll not be returning and I ask that you check out other options in the area if you're craving Thai. Edit* I incorrectly stated the service charge as 20%.It is not and I apologize to the restaurant. I have corrected my review.

After many recommendations from friends and family, we gave Mantra Thai a try. The table booking process was easy and the days leading to the booking, I received several confirmation emails which was great. The service was acceptable. There were many staffs around and they were tentative enough. Nothing extraordinary however. We ordered 2 starters and 2 mains. The 2 starters were Crispy Fried Squid and Duck Spring Roll. The 2 mains were Thai Red Curry Beef and Crispy Pork Belly in Thai Chilli Sauce. The Crispy Fried Squid was great. The batter was seasoned nicely with a hint of lime. The Squid was not chewy and tasted fresh. The spicy dip was the star of the dish. It was spicy, saucy and sweet. Really good sauce. The Duck Spring Roll was brilliant. It was thick and packed with duck and vegetables. Paired with the Hoi Sin sauce, it was also a great starter. On to the mains: Thai Red Curry Beef was frankly, unacceptable. All the ingredients tasted as if they were blanched without a hint of seasoning where the curry was simply poured on top. The beef was as tasteless as paper where the plain rice had more flavour than it. The amount of beef was also shockingly small, I counted about 10 pieces of thin less than inch wide beef. Crispy Pork Belly in Thai Chilli Sauce was fine. But that's all there is to it. It was neither spicy enough nor Crispy enough. The dish felt like an after thought, especially when there were about 6 pieces of pork belly in it. Overall, for a restaurant of this price point, it is not worth a second visit.

Called in sunday and not the best ordered thai green curry but got what it looked like was thai green soup wont be going back but it was good when first opened but thats what happens when you take your eye off the ball,

Really enjoyed our visit here. A lovely warm atmosphere with really friendly staff. Everyone was super helpful. The menu offered some great choices, will definitely be back to try more dishes! The food was really tasty, so much flavour and very good portion sizes. Can't wait to be back

Was excited to try the food after looking at pics and reviews. Walked in to place a take away order and was turned away and told “we can’t do takeaway orders because we’re too busy.” The restaurant was maybe half full at the time. If I am able to be served at a later date, I can amend this review. However, I don’t think I will go back after this experience.

He estado en este restaurante dos veces y he tenido una comida encantadora en ambas ocasiones. El personal es absolutamente encantador y la comida es deliciosa. Había un ambiente fantástico cuando llegamos anoche y estaba muy ocupado que nos encanta ver. A pesar del hecho de que estaba ocupado, el personal era muy amable y el servicio era excelente. Creo que podría haber hecho con un rollo de primavera extra con mi arrancador, ya que era bastante caro. También creo que podría haber hecho con un poco de pollo extra en mi plato de chile y albahaca. El tigre llorón (que mi marido tenía) era precioso y me encantó la salsa para mojar que venía con él. También le encantaba su entrante de cangrejo de concha blanda frito, que dijo que estaba delicioso. Era mi cumpleaños y me sorprendió con una rebanada de pastel que fue un toque encantador. Recomiendo encarecidamente aquí si quieres un poco de comida tailandesa encantadora!

We had a lovely meal here - it was very busy but the staff were still attentive and friendly. Food service was quick but also allowed us time to have drinks and a gap between our starter and main. We came for my wife’s birthday and were surprised with a slice of cake for dessert which we thought was a lovely touch. The food was delicious too - this is the second time we’ve been here and we will absolutely be coming more. You genuinely can’t go wrong with Mantra’s recommendations, I had the deep fried soft shell crab, then the Weeping Tiger and both were beautiful. My wife went more basic with spring rolls and chicken chilli & basil and thoroughly enjoyed both, only very picky point is that 3 spring rolls is a bit stingy! It’s not cheap but you do get what you pay for, looking forward to our next visit!

La comida era muy buena, pero cuando les preguntamos si tenían un cargador de teléfono, dijeron que no, no puedo creer que el personal de un restaurante no tenga un solo cargador de teléfono. Pero aparte de esta buena experiencia en general. El servicio era amable, pero parecían asustados y no muy confiados, lo cual es una lástima porque parecían muy agradables.

The food was great, best green curry I ever had, the fried rice was impressively perfect. It would be nice to get better suggestions on the homemade sections. And the background music is a bit too loud.

Lovely meal for NYE. I thought it was a little expensive for the portions and the taste wasn’t the most authentic when you compare to Thai House Cafe or Bangrak Thai. However, it was an overall pleasant experience.

Arrived without booking ahead of an event at the Arena. Shown to a table within two minutes. Modern relaxed atmosphere. Service very good. Food excellent. Very tasty, nicely presented. Would definitely return allowing more time to enjoy

Experiencia decepcionante. Habíamos reservado para las 5 de la tarde para darnos un montón de tiempo para llegar a un evento cerca. Después de que se tomó nuestra orden, después de una aceptable de 30 mis, en los siguientes 20 minutos se nos acercó dos veces y se nos preguntó si estábamos listos orden. Después de media hora se nos acercó para decirnos que habían perdido el pedido y que podían volver a tomarlo. Ya no teníamos tiempo para una comida completa ahora, así que solo pedí un plato principal. Cuando llegó nuestra comida estaba bien, pero teníamos que apresurarnos, pedí la cuenta, pero terminé teniendo que perseguir esto. Al liquidar la factura, y ahora tarde, me ofrecieron una disculpa por el servicio y un 10% de descuento. Acepté esto y me fui. Más tarde, al ver el recibo, vi que la reducción del 10 % era, de hecho, el cargo por servicio discrecional. Gorgeous food and restaurant. Always amazing service when we have visited and the food is such good quality. The early evening menu is great value too. If you enjoy Thai food you have to try mantra Thai. The mantra magic drink is a must try!

We had an amazing time trying their Adventure through Thailand tasting menu. The staff were so kind and gave us so much detail about the history and culture behind the food. There was also so much attention to detail, even our names on the menus! So professional and on the whole amazing tasting food. The most authentic Thai in Newcastle hands down!!

I had the King Prawn Choo Chee curry and squid tentacles with Thai sticky rice on Sunday evening - one of the loveliest meals I have ever had in my life. The service is excellent - the servers are very attentive; always checking to make sure I had the best time of my life that I didn’t even feel like I had the meal all by myself. Definitely worth it and will come again for sure!

Incluso cuando estaba bien con el personal de pie. El asiento que teníamos estaba en la parte superior de las escaleras y al ser una noche ajetreada me sentí molestado por la gente arriba y abajo. Really romantic lovely places with delicious & authentic dishes. My favourite are the desserts.

Food was nice but portions weren't huge, especially the rice. Considering it cost £5 there could have been more. The food is expensive and didn't appreciate a 10% service charge being added to bill. I don't recall this on the menu and we certainly weren't informed of it.

Food always fantastic and very well presented. Service excellent and attentive - very friendly. Nice ambience. This is my favourite Thai restaurant in Newcastle and well worth a visit 👍🏻I most recently came with a larger group of friends and service was still excellent. Recommend pad Thai, chicken satay skewers and dumplings. Lunch time menu is good value for money.

Had a lovely Sunday night dinner at Mantra Thai. The food was fresh and tasty. I'd recommend the satay chicken and thai green curry plus sticky rice. The staff were attentive and the atmosphere was full. Good gluten free options. Ideal locations for a pre/post dinner walk down the Tyne

This is one of the best Thai restaurants you will ever visit the service, and staff are efficient and friendly. The food is excellent. The pork skewers are moist and succulent, and the duck with honey with tamarind is one of my favourites. My only criticism is that they are not nearer London. Having said that, I would probably put on twice my weight! I can not recommend this restaurant enough and is a must to anyone who visits Newcastle.

This was more upscale than we recognised when we decided to go, and that translated into small portions at hefty prices. Nearly £20 for a small plate of curry? £4.50 for a bowl of rice? (You can buy a box of rice for that!) I mean, it was good in flavour, but nothing outstanding. It was also disappointing to find they only have a children's menu until 5 pm, which meant that our children had to order adult portions, which of course they didn't finish. There were lots of young staff and they were all friendly. The glasses of water were tiny and we had to keep asking for refills, since they wouldn't just bring us a big jug. We did like the flavour, but felt we were mostly paying for the fancy decor.

Lovely restaurant, good service, but the portion sizes were terrible, think we paid 18 quid for ONE soft shell crab , the prawn pad Thai had 5 prawns , no peanuts or ground chilli , beef chilli Basel was tiny and beef was chewy,. Cost £100 for two people, not value for money 😔

My first visit with a friend for lunch. The food was excellent as was the service. I'm not a regular visitor to the city but it's pretty well on the edge, has it's own car park and is next to a multi storey car park for any spillover. The prices were reasonable but that was during "restaurant week" when quite a few restaurants offer special deals so not certain enough of value to safely give five stars. A lovely spotless venue for gatherings.

Our favourite restaurant in Newcastle Staff attentive and super polite from the welcome all the way through the meal until leaving Amazing Cocktails Consistently Fresh , clean tasting authentic food with every visit Tom Yum soup remains our favourites . Galangal , Lemon grass and just the right heat tube as much as you can take

we went for a restaurant week special offer. however, on looking at the prices we were only saving £2.50 and the portions were obviously smaller than regular price so really no saving. all the food was lukewarm and obviously not cooked fresh. we like our food hot. no one came and asked us if the food was okay or we would have said this. dont believe in automatic service charge of £12 as we did not get good food or service. wont be back again

Food is always fabulous. Mantra staff are the best in Newcastle , can't praise them enough. We go here often and love the food, the lunch menu is excellent value.

Been there twice during our stay in Newcastle. Service is spot on, everybody is so friendly, we even ordered take aways for next day ensuring that we’ll come back. Very delicious food, pad thai really nice and balanced in flavour, same as soft shell crab curry. Second time we had seafood player and coconut chicken mushroom soup. Very nice, with a kick of chillies. Sea bass was wonderful as well. It’s been a while since we had such a nice oriental experience. Definitely recommend if you’re into thai cuisine or you want to try something new. Regards to waiters and managers who remembered us from first day.

I can’t fault this place. My third visit and the food is always impeccable. There’s so much choice but I keep coming back to the Lamb Shank Penang curry. Very authentic and generous portion, the lamb is so tender. My partner got the Thai Red Curry with beef. We share Salt and Chilli spare rips with the Duck Spring Rolls to start, aswell as the crackers which are simple but great. Washed down with draught Tiger🤌🏼. Great service, great food and a nice atmosphere.
