**UPDATE** The cafe is now in the St Andrew's Parish Centre in Penrith town centre!! New wonderful menu, same fabulous staff, now in a lovely big, welcoming room next to the beautiful church gardens! We had a Lamb Rogan Josh and a Garlic Mushroom Flatbread and both were superb. They also now do milkshakes - we can recommend the banana with toffee sauce nomnom! Fabulous café. the food is amazing and all freshly made. The coffee is delicious and the staff are fantastic. This was our first time coming to the cafe, & its a lovely little cosy place, in the surrounding Brougham Hall. On entry to the right you will find the large specials board, & then a cake counter. There were plenty options to choose from, but we had two hog roasts. Both tasted great, & as described they came with stuffing, apple sauce & crackling. We also took away a cheese scone & seeded flapjack, these were equally as tasty. It’s so good to see that it’s cafe by the community, for the community. The only negative comment I would say, is there was many different options of food, for a small cafe, maybe it would be more simpler condensing the menu down, & executing it well?

We went looking for somewhere new to stop for some lunch just off the A66 near Penrith and read previous reviews on this. It ticked all the boxes for us gluten free and dog friendly. The cafe has picnic tables outside, covered outdoor seating area, indoor seating and the food was delicious. We opted for gluten free cheese and tomato panini, ciabatta prawn sandwich both beautifully presented with a really devious side salad and hot chocolates. Staff were really friendly. We also took away massive cheese scone and the gluten free millionaire shortbread which was yummy! Looking forward to popping back in the next time we’re passing.

Fabulous breadfast of ciabatta roll with bacon (the bacon was cooked to perfection) Fabulous choice of teapigs to choose from, but for me the best part by far was the use of local made pottery to serve the food and drinks (all of which you can buy from Brougham Hall pottery should you wish to treat yourself) Cafe 4Eden are driven by a view to helping local community - I'd highly recommend dropping in for stone soup or a cuppa. It was our first visit under the new ownership (and Kim's footsteps are hard to fill) but it's a 10/10 from us - we'll definitely be back 😀

We visited here for Sunday lunch after reading the reviews. When we arrived, we walked into a lovely, warm bar area with a log burner. Great, I thought this is what I was hoping for from a country pub. However, we were then led down some steps to a side annexe. The room where we were sat was absolutely freezing, my wife felt the radiator, and it was just luke warm. There were 2 other diners in the room, they like us were sat with their coats on. I asked them were they cold & they replied "bloody freezing". Our main course arrived and we ate it & left. From start to finish we were in the pub for 30 minutes, we had planned to have dessert & coffee's but it was just to darn cold to stay. When I paid the bill I told the server how cold it was, and she agreed. I asked to speak to the manager so I could let them know of our very poor experience. We spent £38, ate our meal, sat with our coats on & and felt badly let down by the Horse and Farrier.

4 of us ordered food, 2 jackets, 1 combi platter which all felt like frozen items fried and served with salad, not great but not terrible either. I ordered a cheese and onion pie with gravy as it was on the menu, I just said pie and pointed to it so didn't think to specify, 25 minutes wait later our food turned up and I got cottage pie put in front of me, they offered to change it for me but because everyone else had their food after a wait I felt obligated to accept it and it wasn't nice, the mince had clearly been defrosted as the mince beef clumped up. Felt really shitty eating it as I really fancied a cheese pie. The server hadn't bothered to clarify which pie I wanted not did they repeat the order back to us as the order was taken, poor customer service if you ask me. We won't be back. The venue was nice, the staff were friendly but oversights like this ruin the experience. Cottage pie would have been the last thing I would have ordered, I really really dislike it, but of course I'm too English to send it back. Nor did they offer to knock anything off the bill for the mess up.
