Cafe @ Woodend Mill in Tameside

Had the cheese burger and Philly cheesesteak. Both incredible. Really enjoyed the food. Service was great too. Highly recommend going if you’ve yet to try it.

Some of the best food I've had in quite a while. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and made sure they had our orders correct before leaving the table. You do have to pay as you go on card when ordering but this isn't a problem. The food was simply delicious. I had one of the burritos with pulled pork on and it was amazing. It came with fries that were seasoned lovely. We would definitely visit again and highly recommend it to anyone who loves a better class of burger, burrito or loaded fries. The prices are also very reasonable compared to other places and you get a decent portion.

Half the breakfast was cold 🥶 and took to long in serving, not worth the price.

We have been wanting to try this place for a while so decided to go today. My goodness, it does not disappoint. The food was absolutely amazing and tastes so good. The food was well presented and really fit in with the American theme. The girl who served us was called Matilda and she was so attentive and lovely. She is a real credit to the owner! Will definitely return that is for sure!

Small hidden gem, cosy atmosphere. Staff attentive and quick service. We both had burgers, The Smoker & The Texan Show Stopper.....wow. The flavours of both were great, the portion sizes were spot on. Will be back, would reccomend to others.

Love the place, like almost famous but the food is even better

Food was excellent - great wraps, hoagies and burgers. Also good value - lunch for 5 of us was about £40.

First visit to ‘The Smokehouse’ and won’t be the last. Really tasty ribs and chicken wings. Excellent portion sizes and good quality meat. Burgers are great too with plenty of choices of fillings. Would love to see some local craft ale on the menu but it wouldn’t stop me going back………..the food is fabulous. Owner and staff very friendly and efficient 10 out of 10.

Came with a couple of friends I had the lamb shwama and it was amazing and generous portion. high quality fresh food and good value for money. Good music choice and decor is nice like a cool cafe you would find on the backstreets of Manchester 10/10

The food is amazing, we missed breakfast so ordered hoagies - ham hock, pulled pork and beef - my partner even gave compliments to the chef after a few bites! Lovely atmosphere, easy to park and great service. Even started making their own pies 🥧 (which look amazing). Will be a regular here, 100% recommend it!

The new pies made by the chef are absolutely delicious. Had the cheese and lamb and best pies ever. Pastry is to die for. The size of the pie would serve 2 as a meal, very large. Definitely highly recommend and will be trying more

Fantastic food everytime the meat hoagies to die for

I can't rate the food as we left before we ordered due to very unfriendly and rude male staff. I don't post negative reviews, but if you work in hospitality, there should be some level of courtesy and politeness. I have reviewed previous reviews just to check if the person may have had just a "bad day." But it appears that you don't take it on board and you're not self-aware in any way... Please work on your tone and way you speak to people...cafe is in a lovely location, and it's really nice inside - shame that the attitude ruined the experience from the moment we stepped in.

Hidden Gem Great home made food Brilliant Retro Decor

Nipped in at dinner for a burger. I ended up getting a Philly Cheesesteak with chips and my girlfriend got a cheeseburger and chips. As she's fussy and wanted no relish the chef very kindly gave her an extra burger. You can tell the meat is good quality Yorkshire gear. Even the chips were very above average. I'd definitely recommend. Good fast service, friendly staff and very tasty good quality food. A real hidden gem

Stunning food always. Phil has a real talent for combining flavours, which are then cooked to perfection. Definitely not a greasy spoon place. If you like exceptional tasting food, come here. Both Lunch menu and the evening smokehouse have excellent things on them.

Fantastic American diner, authentic food cooked with a real passion. The Texan burger is probably 1 of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Well worth a visit especially considering the reasonable prices for high quality food

We are regulars at the Cafe during the daytime but tonight went to the smokehouse for the first time. The food and ambience were both exceptional. Phill is an outstanding and creative host. Highly recommended - especially the ribs!

Wow, what an awesome lunch at this fantastic little place overlooking the river. The Philly Cheesesteak is one of the best I’ve had. Can’t believe it’s virtually on our doorstep. We’ll definitely be back to work our way through the menu, especially the American Smokehouse in the evenings.

My favourite place to eat in Mossley! Been here a few times and the food is always amazing! Especially the salt & pepper chicken and chips. Great value for money and the chef is always very friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone.

What a find! The chap serving us was lovely and accommodating. I got the full breakfast, great value and all cooked very well. Usually I don't go for homemade beans but they were awesome! Highly recommend this little hidden away gem.

Decided to take our son here for a 16th birthday meal as he loves American food. We saw the cafe advertised on Facebook and it looked amazing. We called up to book a table, as all the pictures on Facebook show the cafe packed out. The gentleman who answered checked the diary and said he would be able to get us in. Fab news. When we arrived there was good parking and Mill looked good. When we walked inside the cafe there was nobody in dining. It was empty which surprised us. Anyway we sat down and was greeted by lovely girl who gave us menu's. The young girl came back to our table and took drinks order. Unfortunately there was no Rose wine on the menu and even though they had cocktails advertised above the bar, they wasn't doing them either. So ended up with a coffee instead. My son & partner ordered Milkshakes. The 2 young girls who was serving seemed very inexperienced and the chef / owner had to come out of the kitchen to help them make the milkshakes. We then ordered our meals. We asked the girl could we have the mac & cheese from the starters and have it all together with our main meals as we wanted to share it. She very kindly said she would ask the chef. Off she went to return to our table saying the chef said No. So we decided not to have it. Shame really as that lost them a £7.50 sale. When our meals arrived they looked good and was piping hot. I had The Killer which was ok but had way too much sauce on. As I was biting my burger it was just sloppy with sauce & cheese and falling apart in my hands. Very messy. I also had philby steak fries. Wow these where 10/10. Loved them. My partner had The Texas Show Stopper and upgraded to Pulled pork fries. He said it was nice but again commented on too much sauce. He gave it a 6/10. Our son had The New Yorker and said it was lovely. He gave it a 8/10. He also upgraded his fries to pulled beef and was very impressed with them. The cafe was really nice and the American interior was fab. The staff was very friendly.

Good variety on lunch menu. food … was fabulous!!! Definitely will be returning … already booked for Saturday evening. Highly recommend 👍

Holy Moly! Huge portions of absolutely amazing food! I had a veggie burger and my boyfriend had the New Orleans burger. Everything was so fresh and crisp. Will definitely be coming here again! Thanks guys! X

Nice cosy place food looked amazing ( didn't have any myself) . Milk shakes were nice and tasty.

We was in the area so decided to pop in for food. A quirky little spot for a cafe. We admired the decor inside. We caught a last minute rush and the owner / chef was alone. Our food was OK.... My partner wanted to try the steak sandwich however there was little choice left. (We think we timed our visit poorly as the café shuts about 2 for a break and reopens later.) I think my advice is to get there upon opening.

We get lunch from here quite often and everything always tastes amazing. It’s rare to find somewhere where the quality and flavours remain consistently good, sometimes places go downhill when they’ve been open for a while, but not here. In fact it possibly gets better each time new menu items are launched!

Popped in for a quick bite to eat, the guy serving was extremely busy but coping well. He seemed to be on his own, so he was doing a fantastic job. The food was amazing, I would definitely recommend.

Popped in halfway through a walk along the canal, the coffee was the best we've had , had a falafel and houmous wrap , made fresh and very tasty, hubby had vegetarian toasty ,very tasty, definitely will be returning. Toilet did freak me out a bit, but that's just me.

Food and ambience a perfect blend. The staff are beyond excellent warm and welcoming and it was all super effecient. Great to watch a good team pulling together.

Just been for lunch and this is how it went. Asked if we wanted drinks, have to pay in advance, 10% service charge. Then Ordered starters n mains. Pay in advance 10% service charge. Its on the menu but in incredibly small print at the bottom. I think this is very bad practice and this will prevent me making a return vist on an ethics stance. The food was just average, I've been to better American diners.

Love this little hidden gem. My favourite has got to be the Beef Hoagie and, i cant resist the sweet chilli salt & pepper chips to go with. 😋 you won't be disappointed !

What a gorgeous cafe, I have been a few times and had the breakfast wrap but the salt and pepper chicken and chips has been on my mind every time I walk passed. Today I dropped in whilst walking the dogs and they did not disappoint!! Highly recommend and the staff are so lovely and friendly

First experience of the Smokehouse menu, OH and I were not disappointed. The food was very tasty, OH said his burger was the best he has had in some time and my chilli fries were delicious. Portion sizes good without being too large and left just enough room for dessert. Served by friendly and attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble for them and will be returning, heartily recommend if you haven't been.

Absolutely love this place. Tucked away to the rear of historic mills in Mossley and overlooking the River Tame. The cafe offers a small but atmospheric venue for a bite to eat during the day and in the evenings at weekends where the cafe transforms into a Smokehouse serving delicious burgers, wings, ribs and other culinary delights with an American theme. The food is of great quality and the passion shown by Phill and his staff comes though. Alcoholic drinks are available as well as a variety of other beverages. We first visited the Cafe before Christmas 2022 and have returned many times since. We have always enjoyed our visits and can highly recommend it. You can check out the menu on Facebook and there is normally a link to the Smokehouse menu attached. Phill has also recently offered a takeaway service which we have used and the quality of the food remains superb. A definite favourite of ours.

Food has gone down hill Not as good anymore. If you complain, be prepared to be confronted. Owner does NOT take ownership of faults. Tried to say it was my mistake 😳 really???? Your food was COLD, own it. Last meal was not great, actually it was quite rubbish. Food was cold, service is shocking, kids as waitresses, no experience what so ever. You cannot deviate from the set menu, it the menu or nothing 😯 So for example, if you want loaded chips instead of chips, oh no, you can’t have it. You have to order loaded chips as an extra! RIP OFF. Will not be returning and will be spreading the news how shocking this place is. Cannot be doing with people that can’t accept constructive criticism. Not surprised it was dead when we visited, you probably upset others! Good bye!!!!!

I had the full English breakfast it was lovely well cooked and the beans are lovely 😍. The WiFi is really good ie Quearcode. They have a bar 🍸 they sale beers 🍻 and wines 🍷 and cocktails and none alcohol cocktails 🍸. It the summer there is table and chairs to sit outside in the sunshine 🌞

What a great place! Ambience and layout superb and music selection exceptional. We had The Philly steak hoagie and thd Shawarma gyros, both with chips. Both were fabulous. The Tea was nicely brewed - my only complaint was that I had to order another cup every five minutes as there wasn't a pot available. A proper gem worth seeking out. We will be going back!

Newly discovered local business on the back of mill facing river. Lovely place with very friendly owner who is passionate to deliver good food and good atmosphere. Go and give local business support:) I would recommend to get food here, had ribs with fries and beer - all very good quality.

Have amazing burgers here on Friday evening, my son commented his was best burger he has ever had, all just a little different, really delicious, service was good. All staff were lovely. And such reasonable price, we will definitely be back for more. Lovely wine too.

Came here tonight for a rare night out with the wife and absolutely loved it the food was amazing best burgers I've had in as long as I can remember so juicy it was unreal the fries was really good aswell The restaurant while small wasn't cramped and it had a nice atmosphere with friendly staff the waitresses was very polite the chef and I'm assuming owner even came out to upgrade out table because it was quiet which was nice of him I would definitely be more than happy to return again

If I could give more stars I would. Went tonight for the first time with my partner for our 20yr anniversary the empire state burger was so juicy and cooked to perfection fries and milkshake was amazing and the buttermilk chicken wings was spot on. I’m a very fussy eater and usually only eat bland foods but the flavours were stunning. Big compliments to the chef

Amazing food and staff. The owner is a fabulous chef that puts so much passion and care into what he does. A hidden gem of a place that's well worth a visit ... Or more! It changes from a daytime café into an American style BBQ smokehouse in the evening, which serves alcohol. The food is divine, the fries are cooked to perfection and aren't greasy and perfectly crispy and seasoned. Highly recommended the smoked pulled pork burger and loaded fries.

Really pleased with our dinner tonight. Not been here before and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the burger. As good as city centre Manchester ‘Almost Famous’. Lovely atmosphere, friendly service and great tasting value for money food. We’ll definitely go back.

Very nice place inside, food was just average, pre packed frozen then microwaved, fried to order. Portions were ok. Staff came across quite arrogant, appreciate he was alone but that's never an excuse. Wouldn't return personally but if you're in the area it's reasonable for a quick bite after a country walk.

Food is sensational. Explosion of flavour. Definitely need to go back and try a burger next time. Nice ladies serving, clean kitchen. Only gripe was it's a card only place, no cash and some prices on the menu were different to what I was paid, maybe a service charge but no indication of this, solid 4 out of 5 will be going again

I don’t usually eat out, it’s probably been my biggest fear for years dealing with emetophobia, but my dads good mate Phil made me feel so at ease, and his food is absolutely bloody brilliant!! And the service was lovely, full of charming, well mannered people!! I’ll be coming again 😁

Microwave pie served in a cereal bowl ,unfriendly service
