I arrived at the cafe at 4.00pm, the girl at thr till called Carrie was rude. She said she doesn't have time to serve me, I said to her that the board has a sign that it closes at 5pm she said 'i'm on my own, I can't serve you' to which I replied we're happy to wait but she refused and spoke in a rude tone. I have visited this cafe for over 20 years and this is the first time I have been treated like this. I hope the management realise that this sort of behaviour will have an impact on their business and push their loyal customers away.

The cafe is in a gorgeous historic building, constructed when Bradford was experiencing unparalleled wealth during the Victorian era. It also houses a sizable bookshop (for those who don't know, they were the businesses people visited to purchase reading material before online purchasing became dominant), so the combo is delightful.

Although the cafe itself is beautiful with such a cosy view on both side - either the books or the cobble street. The place is not too busy or quiet and I thought it was a great place to study. The coffee is ok but recently I am always told to leave after an hour if I don’t order again or if it’s too busy. Although there would be a table available. I think it’s also how it’s said. Anyways that was my experience.

Love this place, sooo relaxing. The loose leaf teas are so good...and so reasonable...The cafe is only small but has a big personality, driven by the lovely, friendly and professional staff. The location is superb. Well worth a visit after a stroll round Waterstones Bookshop below. I could have stayed a couple more hours than I did reading and enjoying my Earl Grey Tea... I will be back soon.....

Great ambiance, tea was with loose tea and in a fairly large teapot! However cake was a bit stale and music playing in the background made it hard to read.

Cafe W is situated upstairs in the Waterstones, Bradford Branch. It offers all the joy of a book store visit with the easy and great drinks offered at Costa, Nero or Starbucks. Prices are parative, with sandwiches and the like similar priced also.We opted for a Hot Chocolate Each, mine with a shot of Orange (Which, whilst tasty actually ruined the hot chocolate as the base version was so nice!)Staff were friendly and helpful, the space is lovely and has a great view over the library and adjoining street.Add to this that you can take a book to read to your leisure and youre set for a cold wet day.

Cosy, light, relaxed cafe on the mezzanine balcony of a splendid building above Waterstone's bookshop. Great selection of loose leaf teas and generous portions of a reasonable range of cakes, with friendly and attentive service. Eclectic mix of seating, some more comfortable than others.

Lovely little cafe upstairs.. Was happy to see the minor figures could brew cans available and also the fact they have almond, soya and oat milk (and the barista versions that work better for steaming) lovely treats on the counter, sturdy crockery, decent prices and not a bad coffee at all.. Strong but no bitter after taste. I don't often review other cafés as I have my own coffee shop and don't want to show bias but this is another city and a lovely little place.. Can see me using this cafe every time we visit Bradford.

Interesting window views of busy shoppers and pedestrians. Perfect place to recharge the batteries. Staff friendly and obliging.

I've been coming into the cafe for a few years now and I've noticed it has always been up and down regarding service. I recently visited on Friday the 3rd of November and what a turnaround! The fridge was fully stocked with a great choice of sandwiches. I had a soup and a sandwich for lunch and both were presented in a lovely way. I was also introduced to a table service I have never experienced in there before. Fantastic choice of cakes, the place had a real buzz and you could tell the staff enjoyed working there. There was a fantastic attention to detail. I will be back in to try the Christmas specials they told me about... Can't wait to try the gin and tonic tray bake!

I very much like the idea of coffeeshops within bookshops. And on paper, Café W located within the Waterstones’ bookshop in the centre of Bradford should be even more atmospheric than most since the building used to be the city’s old Wool Exchange. And perhaps if I had popped in for a coffee around mid-morning or at lunchtime, the coffeeshop would have been buzzing and there would been much more pace about the service. But visiting as I did on a Saturday afternoon about 45 minutes before closing time proved to be a somewhat disappointing experience. There was only one barista behind the counter, a rather plodding girl, noticeably light on conviviality or personality; and although there were only two sets of customers in front of me, it took an incredible 12 minutes before I was served. There was then no apology for having been kept waiting for such a long time. What was curious was that there was another member of staff hanging around the place but clearly he thought that totting up the number of chocolate bars in the rack beside the till was a greater priority than clearing dirty cups and saucers from empty tables or indeed assisting his colleague in serving customers. Maybe Café W would argue that there’s an inevitable drop in standards as you head towards closing time, to which my response would be to suggest that perhaps this should then be accompanied by a commensurate drop in prices? However, since I suspect this is unlikely to happen, perhaps Cafe W's staff just need reminding that customers should expect a warm welcome and speedy service whatever time they visit; otherwise there’s a danger they leave with the sense that they’ve been treated a little bit like the last dregs of the day.

Since the Broadway has opened Bradford boasts a number of coffee houses. However, I would argue that Cafe W is by far the best. Located within the historic Wool Exchange you can enjoy a range of coffees, beverages and yummy cakes. The service is excellent and the manager always has friendly and welcoming smile.
