Cafe Thrive in Southampton

I found Cafe Thrive on a cold January day by chance It's like finding an oasis in a desert. Everything is home made and vegan and there's a large variety on the menu.I don't live near Southampton but when I do visit again Cafe Thrive is where I'll head for at lunch time for a lovely meal in a friendly atmosphere .

I have been coming to Cafe Thrive for many years - love their menu and the constant updating with seasonal specials. It's pet friendly and the perfect spot for a coffee and cake, snack, breakfat, lunch or dinner!

We’re so lucky to have such a consistently great vegan place to eat, drink and socialise in Southampton. The menu is accessible enough to appeal to non-vegans too making it a perfect option for catching up with friends. Can’t recommend enough!

Thrive is brilliant. Always great food and lovely staff. Usually give the weekly specials a go and if not there is a delicious regular menu to choose from. The breakfast in particular is worth a visit. The cake counter is irresistible.

Had breakfast here on Monday - loved the breakfast burrito and matcha with coconut milk. A really great dining experience for vegan food. Nice selection and large portions - would recommend and will be back

The best place in Southampton 😍!!! I’ve come twice and wish I lived closer as otherwise I’d be here every week! It’s a fully vegan menu but with so many options, reasonably priced, and lovely staff and decor. They also sell some chocolates and vegan pantry essentials. To the owners- PLEASE keep the chicken tenders and deep fried cookie dough permanently! 😍

We visit Thrive most weeks. There's a range of food, from salads to burgers and chips, plus regularly rotating specials for extra variety. I'm not a fan of fake meat generally, so usually go for the wholefood burger or the falafel wrap, but both are good. Staff are very friendly and sometimes able to adapt things.

If you're vegetarian or vegan, this place is a must, a large menu of Vegan dishes, lots of variety, 'fast food' looking options( Alternative meat burgers) Definitely a small business worthy of support in Southampton. The place has really delicious specials including loaded fries with different delicious toppings with really well thought out healthy and alternative dishes. The menu boasts alot of street food favourites that are usually incredibly difficult to source if you are a strict vegan. The alternative dishes come eerily close to meaty counterparts that sometimes it has you double checking the ingredients! The meaty burger is still an absolute corker.

Shame it isn't advertised as a vegan only place! I assumed that most of the menu is just a regular cafe menu. Ate there today for the first time only because my friend took me there and a staff member told me it's all vegan. Great coffee, tea and food! Lovely little place with very welcoming service. Large choice of vegan cakes too! Highly recommended!

Great find. Good food served promptly. Quite busy, which I took as a good sign!

Food didn't taste nice. The soup was bland, a seeded cold bread (not nice) was given with the soup rather than a ciabatta bread with the cheapest margarine. The cheese in the burger was hard and tasted like rubber. The burger was too fatty and the only thing we could taste was the BBQ sauce. The quality of the food was very poor.

If you like a wide variety of tasty vegan food you should go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Choose from burgers, salads and sandwiches with a huge range of really interesting cakes and pastries.

Excellent food, I had the whole foods burger, it was very tasty, although a knife and fork is highly recommended 😊 The staff were very friendly and the selection of vegan and vegetarian food was fantastic, loads to choose from. Highly recommended, this place is a must for veggies.

Love Cafe Thrive, best breakfast in Southampton imo, seconded by a non-vegan friend who regularly joins me. Great options for lunch and dinner plus a massive selection of cakes. Highly recommend you pay them a visit when you can 🙂

I've eaten here a few times, and every time I've been blown away by how delicious they're able to make vegan food. The standard menu is great, but the constantly refreshed specials are unreal. And on top of all that, the service is brilliant and it has a very welcoming atmosphere. My favourite place to eat in Southampton

A big shout out to Lee and the Cafe Thrive team for excellent service in preparing a delicious vegan birthday cake for our son! Compliments to the pastry chef! We are in the U.S. and our son is an entertainer on a cruise ship that has its main UK port in Southampton. He and his friends have dined at Cafe Thrive every time they were in port since April. Always a delicious meal! I emailed the restaurant and Lee promptly replied answering all of my questions. We ordered the 8 inch double layer chocolate cake. Our son said the cake was so delicious, rich, and moist. Even his castmates who aren't vegan loved it! As pleased customers from abroad, we highly recommend Cafe Thrive. Thanks for making our son's birthday a little more special!

I pray to God that they never get rid of the falafel sandwich; if they do, I'll never come again. Best falafel wrap I've had anywhere. All other wraps pale in comparison - they are an inferior simulacra. This is the true wrap, all others are shadows on the wall of the cave. Aurelius wrote about this wrap in his meditationt.

I was visiting Southampton for the Boat Show and was so excited to find this awesome vegan restaurant in the town centre. Staff were very friendly and my lunch was delicious. Will definitely be back again soon.

This vegan cafe is just a 100/10. I ordered the Dragon Protein Bowl. This was excellent. The tempeh was so incredibly delicious. The roasted vegetables were also super tasty. Just like the dressing and the creamy hummus. A large portion that is very filling. Very nice cafe and friendly staff. Large selection of sweet and savory treats. Something for everyone. I can 100% recommend this cafe. So good. Would come again and again.

Tbh I popped in to use a loo but didn't want to not order anything so had a quick look at the menu. Hadn't realised it was vegan (although I'm veggie) but the food was superb. The vegan breakfast bun with scrambled tofu would definitely not be something I'd usually order but it was delicious, the side order of hash browns though.....WOW......best ever!!!

Absolutely love this place! Every option is completely vegan, and ridiculously enjoyable. As a lover of street food, I found it hard to find places that incorporated these flavours into food suitable for veggies - hence why I was so pleased to find cafe thrive. Definitely recommend! - Go check out their specials board, there’s always something that will wow you 😉.

We are here twice during a weekend stay. Everything was so good!

Been countless times with the children but they don't currently accept cash. I hope this changes. 4 stars for old time's sake.

Me and my ex were out in town and wanted to eat some good breakfast. My mom recommended this cafe to me, saying that it looked quite good and that they served healthy and real food. We decided to try it out and eat there, when we arrived we saw that there was a selection of healthy foods for sale (snacks and stuff). There is a nice upstairs seating area with a good view which we decided to go up to. We ordered two wraps, smoothies, and a side of skin on fries. The smoothies came first and they were really good, made with fresh fruit and it was clear they were made with good ingredients. They tasted really nice. The wraps were huge portions and came with a side of salad and presented really well in what looks like recyclable / eco packaging. The wraps were full of meat and sides and were really filling. The skin on fries were not greasy and tasted really fresh, it was very clear that the ingredients were high quality. Overall the food was amazing, albeit not cheap, but I think that the quality makes up for it. Would highly recommend for fresh and tasty food with a nice view.

The food was so good. I had no idea! I’ve been trying to get to Thrive for probably 2 years now, and today was the day. We had SLT, Chicken Burger and the BBQ Chicken, absolutely amazing taste, the quality and f the food was unbelievable, fresh and delicious. Texting all our friends, 100% going back. As a vegan of 5 years, hands down the best vegan food I’ve had. A huge variety of choice and the fresh baked goods are amazing The only thing that stops me from coming more regularly are the prices but by no means is it not on par to the quality or portion sizes.

Service- excellent. Food- excellent. Cleanliness of tables and floor put me off, my arms felt like they were sticking to the table, uncleared tables, food stuff on mucky looking floors. If I’m eating somewhere, a lot can be said for cleanliness. But if this was sorted, the place is A* first class!

Great burgers and brownies. Good selection on the menu and great to have some kids meals available too.

4 of us had food, drinks and cakes. The minute we finished our cakes we were asked to leave. We were planning to stay a little longer and have another round of hot drinks. Without an apology they said they needed the table and basically pushed us out. We are regular customers and like the food but we won’t be going back

Amazing food, simple on-phone ordering and we sat outside in the sun. The burgers are delightful and the loaded hash browns were delicious! The BBQ stack burger has to be one of the best burgers I've ever had, and I'm even a meat eater!

I’ve been coming here for two years (since I moved to Southampton) and I’ve never had a bad experience with any staff or food here , as someone with a dairy allergy it’s my favourite cafe to go to especially for their sweet treats they have such a variety that dairy allergy usually deprive me of in other cafes

Went down last week when they had the 4th of May Star Wars meals. First time visiting the restaurant and travelled 40mins for it. It was definitely worth it. Staff was friendly and the food was plenty. The vegan burger tasted nice and also got plenty of chips. Also got some cakes to take home with us.

If you live in or near Southampton and are vegan (or not!) you should check out this place! They have loads of delicious dishes (burgers are 2-4-1 on Tuesdays) and the most incredible range of vegan cakes and pastries you have ever seen. The staff are really friendly and the restaurant is clean and cosy and you can even bring your dog if you wish!

I've visited Cafe Thrive many times and it's always my go-to cafe when I'm in Southampton. The food is absolutely delicious and their milkshakes are some of the nicest I've ever had. The staff are friendly and it has a really nice atmosphere. Their menu offers something for everyone (so don't think you won't like it if you're not vegan) and it's wonderful to know that nothing on the menu contributes to animal suffering. I would highly recommend if you enjoy good food and being around nice people.

Been hooked on cafe thrive ever since I stumbled across it a couple of years ago, I cannot make a trip to Southampton without going! They go above and beyond with their menu and the quality for money is unreal. Make sure to try as much as you can, especially the cakes… my personal favourite is the biscoff cronut, thank me later!

Recently moved to Southampton, and been on the lookout for vegan restaurants/cafés !!! Really isn't many about ! I've come across this gem !! And oh my goodness gracious me !!! my go to place for lunch!! nice chill vibe with friendly staff soooo many cakes to choose from always spoilt for choice!! a great menu and they offer different specials every week which gets me back! my non veggie/vegan friends are always more than happy to come with me! The biscoff milkshake is amazing really recommend! i recommend it all definitely take a trip there anytime you're in town!

Very nice little restaurant. Came for breakfast but not in time, got this nice wrap, warm falafel with salad, aubergine, great value will be returning for this 😋 Crispy Seitan!! A new favourite with peanut sauce! Enough to feed X2!!!

Lovely selection of vegan food, drinks, cakes and ice cream. Can get busy but seats upstairs too. Large portion size, we visited twice this weekend and shared a dish on our second visit.

We found this place on happy cow and went because it was vegan. We went around 3pm and although it wasn't busy at the time, it looked like it had been busy as the place didn't have any clean tables to sit on. We sat upstairs, food was amazing but again the place could of used a bit of a cloth and spray and general tidy up! Would highly recommend for food and I'm hoping we just got it on a day when they might of been short staffed because the first impressions was the only thing that let this place down.

To find a vegan cafe like this is like finding an oasis in the desert…just decent, well cooked vegan food with friendly and helpful staff. I was a bit overwhelmed with all the choice…obviously normally in most other places you get one or sometimes two vegan choices if you’re lucky. So I felt very spoilt for choice, but went for the black bean chilli with flatbread which was absolutely amazing, just packed full of lovely beans and veggies and flavour 😋. Then we had a French Fancy and a Viennese whirl which were equally amazing. So long since I’ve had either of these. Sat outside opposite the park which was lovely but could have sat inside with our dog as they are dog friendly. I was a bit like a kid in a sweet shop, I’ll definitely return. Wish I lived a bit closer 😕

An amazing vegan cafe, with a great vibe, and fantastic staff. The service is quick and the food is amazing. When I'm in Southampton, I simply have to come here for an oat milk latte and one of their amazing cakes or buns.

Had an amazing brunch here, the food was delicious and portions really generous. You can see how much thought had been put into every part of the dish! If we lived in Southampton I’m sure we would be eating here all the time.

100% vegan with a new theme and menu items every week! We went for dinner before a Mayflower show and it was St Paddy’s Week so the theme was Always Sunny in Philadelphia, my favourite show! Great value for money with massive portions and delicious food, loads of drinks and milkshake options. Now a go-to anytime we’re in the area

Best tofu scrambled, a really tasty breakfast. Hubby had sausage sandwich and was really happy with that. The two girls serving were polite and smiley. They also make very good coffee! We will definitely be back! Thank you ❤️

We visit Thrive most weeks, usually as a couple though we have been with family and friends/colleagues too (some of whom have become regulars themselves). I’m not actually vegan, but my partner is and she really likes having a wide range of choice. Ironically, I find my options more limited, because I’m not keen on various meat substitutes, such as seitan. I normally end up with either a wholefood burger or a falafel wrap, but those are good enough that I don’t much mind having them regularly anyway. In fairness, there are other options too, such as salads or the regularly rotating hot bowl, as well as weekly specials – I’m just not very adventurous and tend to stick to things I know I like. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve been and only once or twice I’ve ordered something that I haven’t liked too much, but always I’d say just down to poor choice on my part. I don’t recall ever having a problem with the quality of the food itself. The portions are fairly generous too. My partner rarely manages to finish a main plus side, despite liking the food, but still thinks she gets her money’s worth (especially if I help finish her chips). The menu recently had a slight refresh which, unfortunately, involved the removal of baguettes (including the ‘tuna’ melt, which was another option I’d sometimes go for). However, there are new additions too, such as focaccia and pesto fries (the latter one that I’d suggested through social media, after enjoying them as a special earlier). Sometimes we have requested changes to menu items which, as far as I can recall, have always been accommodated. For instance, today’s specials included waffle fries topped with some kind of fake-bacon bits, but the staff were happy to swap mine for crispy onion instead (top-left in the picture). The menu also indicates options that are, or can be made, free of soya or gluten, though they can’t guarantee to avoid cross-contamination given the small kitchen.

We have been visiting Thrive regularly ever since it opened and it’s always our go-to ‘attraction’ when in Southampton. Food is great, the atmosphere is relaxing and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Also, they have vegan ‘Mr Whippy’, which I am still ridiculously excited about!

CAUTION!! Do NOT cast your eyes on the cakes. The temptation will overcome you. This is a fantastic place with.great staff and atmosphere.

Cafe Thrive is located in the heart of Southampton just opposite the park. Seats outside and on a sunny day lovely place to stop and take in the bustle of the city. Inside there are seats downstairs and upstairs and the staff will greet you warmly, it is often busy here (which is great for them) so you may have to wait for a table to come free which is expected when a place is popular like this one. Food is spot on, not stingy on portions, always hot, tasteful and well presented. The loaded fries 🍟 are not to be missed at all! I really great, independent eatery and one I’ll continue to go back to again & again. Well done indeed! 🙌🏻
